You and Jean just won the internet for the day.....
Priceless!
We have the BEST FO and owner in the league...... I am one that believes and trusts that Steve is doing exactly what needs to be done, and we have the vast majority of pieces in place to succeed. He didn't become a wealthy, successful businessman by making poor business decisions. Look at the teams that constantly have a large turnover in their FO and coaching, none have been very successful for years. Fans are going to complain no matter what, even if we are winning, so I am more content with minimal changes going forward, and even most players I hope can stay, give or take one or two or three. If next year we are in the same place, then maybe at that time we may see a few changes. This was the year from he!! ALL the way around, so we can only hope it gets better from here.
We only complain because we are passionate and always want it all. Steve and Ozzie are to blame because they spoiled us with their class and smarts. You called it the way it is. This season came from hell and we still believed and watched every minute of every game! We can argue why we'd like the cap money to be spent but no one can argue that Steve always spends till the cap stops him. No one can deny that he attempts to hire the best and usually does.
Oh man this season hurt but seriously. Id rather be hurt for the Ravens than for anyone else. Keep bleeding purple Ravens flock......... We'll be back sooner than later ![]()
I don't think the Ravens are afraid of Joe Flacco or Linta. They could care less. The reason they're not negotiating at this point is they are comfortable if he has to play this year at his cap rate. They perhaps don't want to renegotiate and give out a stupendous contract extension for two reasons. Joe has torn both ligaments in his knee and they would like to make sure he is fully healthy and can play at a high level first. Also, they may believe that Flacco has received a reward compensation for his SB victory already with his first contract. They may now want to extend him with a contract totally commensurate with his production. Right now, they may not believe that they can give out a large extension with top dollar right now. That is exactly what Linta may want from the Ravens. So, they will do what is in the best interest of the entire team and franchise. Our front office is responsible to put together a full team that is competitive and good enough to win us a few SBs. They're not in the business of Joe Linta, whose express purpose is to get more money than any other QBs' for his client Joe Flacco. That may not help the Ravens put a complete roster that can actually help win anything. And Joe isn't a transcendental QB (Like a Brady or P. Manning or even a Rodgers) who can carry this team to SB wins with limited talent around him. In fact, he's proven that he needs a really good supporting cast to be successful.
I really hope your right. Joes agent keeps playing hard to get and now it's the Ravens turn to say hey...... We love your client but won't wreck our future unless we have to. Especially since he's coming of knee surgery. This time I really think joe will step up and end this drama himself if he has to. I'm not expecting that cap hit to look like Brady's but I am expecting Joe to act like the joe we know. "I don't care about the money because I already got it" now it's time to win! But Joe won't get disrespected with a pathetic contract. I have no idea man. I'd hate loosing the best quarterback in franchise history. But I'd hate to pay this quarterback the richest contract in history. Again lol
Now that it's official Kendrick Lewis is likely looking for his fourth team. He was here primarily because we were broke and he was cheap. I think Webb will flourish once his ego heals. OTOH I don't think anyone will ask him to take another pay cut. A restructure maybe, but there's no way he reduces his pay a second time voluntarily.
Why would we get rid of Lewis? He's not starter material but still is great value for money. Hes a good experienced vet that can play backup to an injury prone webb (who I love btw) until Brooks proves he's ready.
This moves closes the door shut on FS and SS but opens 2 doors at the CB position. As things stand, we have J.smith who is still one of the best CBs in the game but no one to line up on the other side and no one at nickle.
Not a perfect scenario but at least we finally seem like we have a plan. Oh and just straight up just cut Arrington! Never has been started material and never will be able to hold up against starting NFL WRs
Congrats Brandon! Nothing but love for your play, attitude, work ethic, and personality.
This is greater than football for you and I hope God blesses you with a beautiful family and a forever lasting bond with your loved ones.
It's not too complicated. We were within 1 score of each game we played prior to Flacco getting Kerrigan'd by our own left tackle. You add one game changer like Suggs back to the equation and you've got completely different possibilities. The entire dynamic of the game changes when you can create pressure with just the front 4. We couldn't do it and no GM in this league has ever gone into a season PLANNING to lose a marquee pass rusher like that. All you can do is try to coach up his replacements quickly.
The real pitfall this offseason would be overreacting. We know where the needs are. Just stay the course. Don't get too reactionary. Stick to the board. It'll be alright.
I totally agree with what you just said. Suggs coming back will provide a huge boost to our D in terms of demanding double teams, getting to the QB, and setting the edge. We're not even talking about his intangibles. My only worry is that everyone is gonna expect suggs to come out flying to start the year. That's not gonna happen because hes coming back from a tough tough injury and won't be close to full speed till the second half of the season. It sucked loosing sugs but that gave z smith valuable playing time and the guy really has developed into a good player. He's surely a great backup at least and could really help in specific packages. Doom won't have to do so much and will get close to double digit sacks.
You are absolutely right. Everyone can use a pass rusher but let's not screw everything up and reach for a pass rush because we already have some solid guys for 2016.
Justin Tucker just seems like a good dude. He is my favorite Raven.
Honestly, I'm glad tuck missed a few fgs because that only increases our chances of retaining his services. He's certainly my fav kicker in the NFL by far but to say hes your fav player just proves how deep of a fan you are. Kudos to you my friend. I hope Tucker retires a raven ![]()
Thank you Ravens for fighting till the end!
It was a painful season but in the end..... We got 100 percent effort and we gave young guys valuable playing time that we rarely have the luxury of doing. Next year will be a blast. And next year starts in s few weeks for Ozzie and them.
Bring back that smile to our faces and remind the world who we are coz we surely haven't forgotten.
Keep bleeding purple Ravens coz its only gonna get better from here
Just get healthy joe and don't worry about contractual issues. That's for your agent and FO to figure out.
Does it suck that we drop a few places as a reward after a great win? Yes.
Do I appreciate that my team will fight till the end and go down kicking? Definitely!
And that's why we love Ravens football!
Again, trading him months ago is likely to land us the same type of pick as letting him walk, so where's the gain?
Players like him don't sign 1 year prove it deals when they have nothing left to prove. Not worth discussing further.
Whoever agrees to pay him the most wins.
It's always nice to hear your perspective RMC ![]()
The defense is #10 in the league this year with obvious pieces missing. I would say the defensive coaching staff has done a great job of staying competitive. There were weeks when a guy was signed on Monday and started on Sunday this season. Its incredible this D is top 10. The Steelers torched the #1 defense in the league in Denver, this Ravens D shut them down one week later. Hall of Famers like Ray and Ed had more to do with the Defense being dominant under Rex and Chuck than the coaches being geniuses. Colts, Bills, and even the Bengals (#11) are all behind the Ravens in D this season, and they clearly have more talent. Pees has been a coordinator under Saban, Belichick, and Harbaugh, and has won 2 Super Bowls. Â I think he understands the game. How could anybody expect more than #10 in the league with this group? No Sizzle, Ngata, McPhee, Krueger, Graham, Williams, Ellerbe, Arthur Jones, etc. The last couple years have been rough losing these guys. Almost all of them signed big contracts because they had success under Pees
1- no one is calling pees a fool but we're just simply saying that the guy sucks at developing secondary talent. Until 6 weeks ago he seemed allergic to disguising blitzes. And threw a few of his players under the bus. Oh and the best part was when he decided to change signals mid season because he felt that opposing teams were stealing them. That just killed me "really, it took you two years to figure that out?"
2- my biggest problem with pees is that he often gets outcoached in the second half. Opposing teams make adjustments at halftime but he needs to see it in film and by the time he makes his adjustments wev already conceded a few TDs.
3- I for one made a claim this past offseason that this D on paper was top-5 if we could somehow keep Ngata. I'm not surprised at all that we sit at 10. As a matter of fact, that's the least I expect from this D. Not many coordinators have to luxury of coaching 10 guys that have made it to a pro bowl or missed out because their not popular enough like d smith or b williams
4- true pees coached a lot of guys that could get to the quarterback. But I can easily argue that was a product of Suggs and Ngata demanding double teams on every play. The year those 2 are gone, no one can get to the quarterback.
5- graham...... He played next to j smith and I webb when he was a healthy stud. E reed and b pollard had his back. He usually covered the opponents third best receiver and often got exposed because pees couldn't make s damn adjustment. You don't believe me. Watch the Broncos game and see how Peyton picked on him all day long.
6- I gotta give it up to pees tho because for the past 5 or 6 weeks his D has been rock solid. But I know that our schedule was vanilla except the steelers game and I'm afraid of keeping pees because I fear him going back to vanilla bend don't break mentality. I want a D that's nasty and scary. Not a D that is happey to finish in the top ten. I want a d that gets pissed off for finishing outside of the top 5
7- last but not least. Leave overall stats aside, what did we do better than most last year? Stop the run and keep you to a fg instead of a TD in the red zone. Who's to blame there? I may have been a bit harsh but poor Pees just can't buy consistancy if his life depended on it. Every time he plugs a whole, a whole he plugged earlier starts leaking again.
But it's not about just fitting him under the cap for 2016...it's about 2017 and 2018 and 2019...
Any team can literally fit any player under their cap for one year, but it's never been about that. It's about affording him over the long term, which is questionable.
That's the biggest problem I see on these boards with fans, particularly when it comes to cap space...most people can't look past just one season. The FO simply doesn't have that luxury.
Always easy to say "well just trade the guy", but what people forget is that trades require at least TWO teams. So why would a team trade for a guy they can simply sign six months later and not have to give up picks for him? What if they trade for him and he doesn't resign there? It's not like anybody is giving us like a first or second round pick for him...he'd probably be traded for a pick that is similar to a comp pick range.
True. The FO don't have the luxury of only thinking of 2016. But it can be done. Not as simple as many of us think it is but it can be done.
In KOs case I'm just pissed of because of how things are turning out. Usually when this happens, the player is gone. If this was last year and we were making a playoff run I'd say yes you keep him and we'll figure it out in the offseason. But this year was gone a looong time ago and our FO had a lot of time to work something out but it seems that nothing has been done.
I really hope KO stays but we have a saying, a bird in hand is better than 10 on a tree. What I'm trying to imply is had we traded KO by the deadline we'd have a solid pick that we can draft someone with or package it with another pick and get a probowler for next year when all the cap details are sorted out. Now all we have is a guy that's gonna join a bidding war and we just hope we can afford him. What if he signs a one year prove it deal because he doesn't like his value and gets hurt week two and is out tor the season? How good is that comp pick then?
We play to win, and having watched a lot of these bowl games, trust me when i tell you, a heck of a player will be available for us when we pick....Seeing lots of solid players, who are sticking out in these Bowl games....
Mathematically, the Ravens can't pick higher than 5th or lower than 13th. Realistically, the Ravens will land somewhere between picks 6-10. We can go LT, WR, CB, FS, RB, or Pass rusher.
Oh I trust you and agree that these young guns coming out this year are studs. By the time we pick, the best player on our board for one of those positions will still be there. Heck maybe even two or three. Just pleeeeeeeeeeeease don't trade down Ozzie unless we are double dipping in the first. I swear if we trade down to gather more picks I'm gonna go on a rampage and you won't hear the end of my venting until we make the playoffs again lol.
When it comes to beating the bengals, I'd love to win one more and spoil the bengals season but I already said last week that all I want is a win against the steelers and that's what I got so I won't ask for more. I won't lose any sleep over a loss but if we win....... Imma brag all summer about the best 6-10 team in history. And when this 6-10 team wins the super bowl next year imma rub it in everyone I knows faces yelling "I told you so!"
1. In my judgment, there isn't an offensive lineman in the league worth $12-$13M a year, and KO certainly isn't worth anything near that. Franchise tag isn't an option.
2. There's no possible scenario where we can afford KO and Jeffery...I'd argue we probably won't even be able to afford ONE of them, let alone both.
I knew I could count on you RMC ![]()
1- I agree tagging him is waaaay out of reach. Somewhere around 6-9 mil a year is more realistic. I just still don't understand what's the holdup? It's not like we started the season 5-1. Trade him and get good value for him before week 9 or resign him.
2- You never know. KO could sign a contract that counts like a million or two against the cap the first year. We see it il every year. It happened with monroe, zuttah, and a few other guys signed deals that averaged much more than the first year cap hit.
You probably already know by now that I believe we will have a lot more cap space than you estimated the other day ![]()
Happy new year btw and keep bleeding purple!
I didn't neg ya (up to 7 now) but my guess would be either
1-the thought of putting the tag on KO (much more than he's worth and would cause players to be cut in the process) -or-
2-investing that much on o-line (you're suggesting keeping everyone and draft an o-line in the first)
Yeah I guess the tag is a reach because of how expensive it would be. I'd be fine paying him yandas money or a bit less. No one needs to be cut, I would hate loosing KO and getting a comp pick in return.
Yes I'm tired of everyone complaining about linemen getting hurt. It happens to every NFL team. You need 8 solid guys to finish a season. I also think monroe is gone after next season so why not groom a 1st round LT next year and start him when someone goes down. If he's ready he starts next year and hopefully have a franchise LT.
Oh and thanks for a response instead of just a neg lol
I got 5 negs with a comment and zero replies.....
Can someone say what exactly they disagree with?
If the front office allows Osemele to go elsewhere, I, as one fan, will curse the day. He can play anywhere on the line. Not since Jim Parker have we been so blessed. There is always money to be had. It is a matter of loosing the purse strings or pass the collection plate.
Thank you!
Prior to the win against the Stillers, I would've said that Ozzie was trying KO at LT to increase his stock in free agency to nab a higher comp pick. With a likely top 3 pick, the Ravens could've targeted Tunsil, the LT from Ole Miss. Now? I have no idea!
I have an idea!
1- Resign KO or franchise him. Draft the best Olineman available with our first. Play the best 5 on Sunday's. Best and deepest Oline in the NFL right there!
2- Take a swipe at A.Jeffry. If he's too expensive then bring in someone in FA. Someone like Ruben Randall or the guy from the Browns. Sss comes back, perriman gets healthy, and aiken pushing them all for playing time. That's a legit group of WRs right there.
3- Fire Pees and hire someone worthy of coaching 8 former pro bowlers. Hand him the rest of the picks and tell him if this is not a Top-10 defense then your fired!
4-Record that conversation and send it to Trestman
Possible to sign both KO and Alshon Jeffery? Lot depends on restructuring Joe's deal, but I'm sure Joe wouldn't mind throwing to SSS, Jeffery, a HEALTHY Perriman, Aiken, Boyle, Williams, and Gilmore along with having Forsette and Buck swinging out of the backfield.
It's funny looking back that this team is just one player and a clean bill of health away from being great.
1- Thank you SSS for coming back! We all owe you one. Even if he drops every pass this upcoming season the Ravens still got their money's worth and some! I'd love to se SSS holding the Lombardy and finishing in the top 7 in receiving yards. Surely that would end the debate of him being a HOFer
Sorry to hear you tore that. From what I know, it sucks! I'm curious tho, since you know first hand how the recovery process is like. How long did it take till you got your burst back? It took Suggs a year and a half till he was close to 100 percent on the field.I have had a torn Achilles, it isn't an easy injury to return from, with any amount of explosiveness! I know SSS will come back with a vengeance and work hard to be our #1 receiver! We need to find an insurance policy in the first or second round to help send Smith out with a ring next year !
So should we reasonably expect Sss to start the year at 80percent? I love the guy but he is 37 and is coming off a horrible injury that takes a loooot of time till a players recovers fully. Is he gonna be close to 100 percent near the playoffs? Or is that also a reach?
his leadership and locker room presence is more than welcomed back but i hope the fo does not want him as our #1 or 2 receiver. at his age he needs to be more of a 3rd down receiver which will allow him to be stronger late in the season and not have too much abuse on his body. perriman is a ? so finding a #1 should be the goal. aiken proved that he can be a solid #3 or 4. the rest of the guys can battle it out for the #5,6 or special teams
Oh I'd love to see that happen. Ruben Randall, Alshawn Jeffry, and Travis Benjamin all become free agents. I'm not asking for much. Please make it happen Ozzie!
Please please win this game! All I need this summer is a steeler sweep!

http://overthecap.com/player/eugene-monroe/927
1- Eugine monroe has 3 years left on his contract.
2- His salary for those years are 8.7mil(2016) 8.95 (2017) and 8.95 (2018)
3- Of those 3 years, 2.2 mil is guaranteed every year as a signing bonus totaling 6.6mil. That is money that the Ravens have to pay him regardless and must swallow the cap hit regardless if he's on the roster or not.
4- If the Ravens decide to cut or trade him before this upcoming June 1, the Ravens must swallow 6.6 million (dead cap) in 2016 saving 2.1mil in cap space (2016) that can be spent elsewhere.
5- if the Ravens decide to cut or trade him after June 1, then 2.2 counts as dead cap in 2016 freeing up 6.5mil in 2016 and the remainder (4.4mil) gets moved to dead cap against 2017.
Other viable options would be to let 2016 play out and revisit this issue same time next year. At that time, monroe would be owed 4.4 mil guaranteed out of his remaining 18mil in salaries. If he continues to miss time then he'd be forced to take a huge paycut or be traded for peanuts while freeing up a ton of cap space to sign whoever. If he plays well then the Ravens could extend and restructure freeing up cap space and keeping monroe at the same time. The Ravens don't have much leverage at this point but in one year they would have all the leverage.
Hope I cleared up a few things
