He still looks pretty good imo. His legs look good. He didn't get a lot of separation when he was on the outside, but that's not his game. He was playing outside cuz Sterling was in the slot. He has also recently been saying he just wants to play. I'm sure he would Love to play for us. Though I'd rather have Q, I have a feeling he might not want to come back. Cruz would be cheap and be a nice chains mover from the slot. He would be a big jump ball red zone guy like we need, but he can still work the slot in the red zone. There aren't going to be a ton of quality options at this point, especially to add to the offense. But Cruz' legs looked good to me, and he looks to about as fiery as they come. Which would be another thing that just departed. Though he's not quite the physical bulldog that SSS and Q are, his heart looks to be just as big. I think it would be a great spark to add to our wr core, on and off the field
Cruz would surely be a welcomed addition in my opinion. Iv always been a big fan of his play. His injury history would scare me more than anything else at this point. I just feel like by the time he works some chemistry with Joe, he'll be injured again

I know he has been in some trouble, and is currently in jail I believe, but he will be out before the season. He definitely has the talent, size, but obviously there are concerns. He hasn't been as productive as he was expected, but if he gets it together and focuses on just football, he could be great again. We could use a WR like that...but he would definitely have to get his life together first and prove hes reliable. He is also only 27 years old...
If we can get him on an incentive based low risk deal then I'm all in for the reasons you mentioned. He's not a bad person or teammate. He's just a knuckle head that can't stop drinking and driving! I hope he has a good support system and becomes yet another Ravens comeback story
5 hours ago, rmcjacket23 said:Depends on what we are "contending" for. If its for a playoff spot, we're already there.
If its for a SB, then yes, probably at least a year or two away.
I look at it this way...
1. I don't see any team in our division, outside of maybe Cleveland, who has significantly upgraded their roster from the previous year. Pittsburgh did basically nothing in FA, and while they made some draft picks I liked, I still think their defense is a significant liability. Cincinnati is going to be a lot worse than people think they are, mostly because they're not very good defensively anymore and their Oline is atrocious. And while Cleveland is doing a lot of things I like, we obviously know they aren't contenders next season.
2. If you make the case that our offense is still bad, we at least on paper upgraded the defense, or particularly, upgraded the secondary. I can't see a version of this team being worse on defense this year than last year.
In theory I suppose we could be even worse on offense, but that's hard to see based on how badly we looked at times.
Great post. I'm loving the offseason so far. We need a few more pieces and this team can compete. We don't even need game breakers. Just a few quality starters.
9 hours ago, rmcjacket23 said:Your history is a little hazy...
1. Steve Smith signed in March, about 2 weeks into FA. Well, well, well before the draft.
2. Owen Daniels signed in early April, about a month before the draft.
3. Jacoby signed in early May, about a week or two after the draft. While important to our SB win, he was primarily just a returner and never developed into a quality receiver.
The notable summer additions in recent years include Daryl Smith and Vonta Leach (and those were quite a while ago, actually). While we typically can get a role player at some point in the summer/fall, we're not signing world-beaters this late in most cases.
The first part of the offseason is the whole FO hitting FA and redoing contracts. Then Decosta had his draft. Now its Ozzies time.....
This is when Ozzie bargain hunts. if im not mistaken, this is when we landed the likes of Jacoby, doom, zuttah. This is when players get traded for dirt cheap because teams are rebuilding and drafted rookies replacing vets.
this is where we get gems for the right price. I like this team with decker and mangold if it only costs us giving up a 6th and releasing Watson.

I think we had a bunch of "ok" MLB's and the coach just gave the nod to guys like Orr, guys who needed to prove they could be starters. I felt this way before and I still feel it now...Correa is the true underdog
I really hope your right as I'm obviously rooting for this kid. It concerns me though that he never was an ILB or excelled in coverage. I hope he wins the job because he's physically a freak of nature.
what injuries was he battling through last season?
7 hours ago, bigcatfrank1 said:2017 Draft = B-
On position and need based only
troubled positions;
No clear #1 Center
No clear third WR
No clear #1 RB games 1-4 (and even further)
No clear third ILB
Obviously Ranking the Draft is really not fair until mid-season.
Last years draft was clearly an A.
That's harsh.
there was no clear C in this class to start with so why reach? That should be addressed in FA or trade ASAP.
no clear third WR. Well you said it, a starting pass rusher is much more important and expensive if we don't draft one. That doesn't mean we just ignore I the position after the draft.
no clear #1 RB.... I agree 100 percent. Dixon showed a lot of promise but potential means nothing if he can't stay on the damn field! Just thinking outside of the box here but would the Titans trade away one of their RBs?
what do you mean by third ILB?
4 hours ago, sizzlingdoom said:Howard could've gone as early as 4, and is the best TE coming out I've ever seen.Future all pro no doubt. He falls to us, SO we take a corner that gave up 19+ yards a catch, on one of the best defenses of all time.
Ju Ju, a younger and more explosive version of Q falls to us in the second, what do we do? Take a raw pass rusher from Houston.
Sweet.............................................................. The rams offense will probably be better next year. Get with the times FO
Agree 100 percent that OJ is probably the best TE prospect iv also seen. Disagree that he wouldn't add much more productivity than we already have. He's not gonna get 1800 yards and 14 TDs. At least not this upcoming year.
Juju in the second would have been a perfect fit if our FO knew they could land Williams in the third then they probably would have taken Juju.
relax, we can't have it all. We have a top 5 D and we're not done on offense. Give me a healthy Gilmore along with Pitta playing primarily in the slot. Give me a solid Vet WR like decker and that basically offsets the pass on Juju. I am 100 percent sure that we will have another solid WR to compliment the two studs that we already have.
Oline is what really concerns me. Our FO have the tendency to just roll the dice with young guys. I love me some Yanda and Stanley. I like Lewis, but I'd be holding my breath if we send a rookie C out there along with another rookie on the line. If Yanda gets banged up then this Oline could literally crumble...
We don't need to get with the times. Flacco is not and should not be a volume timing thrower. Get the run game going and that'll open up single coverage deep. That's where Flacco is dangerous.
17 hours ago, Tenacious Faulker said:Two things not making this draft a slam dunk A is a questionable pick on a CB in rd 1 and no receivers. They can address receiver in free agency and Anquan Boldin is still out there, but at what price? Will he give them a hometown discount? With the signing of Brandon Car at CB it makes the Humphrey pick look capricious - a pure BPA pick. Being picked in rd1 means immediate contributor and JuJu Smith-Schuster could've been a nice 2nd rd pick and perfect for the slot position. I'm not complaining about Tyus Bowser in the least, but they better have a solution for fortifying the WR position.
Humphrey is a top teir corner that the Ravens won't get the chance to draft if we pick in the 20s. He's a blue chip cornerback that finally solves our biggest problem since our SB run. (Secondary depth when Jimmy gets hurt.) we didn't push or panic and thankfully got a top ten talent at 16. I'm not complaining. Even if Carr is the starter week one. Our secondary is officially one of the best and deepest in the NFL.
All 3 top teir WRs were gone by 16 and I'm glad we didn't reach for anyone there. I do agree that Juju would have been a solid pick at 47. That was the only round imh that WR wouldn't have been a reach.
That said, I'm so looking forward to Bowser. Looks like the FO really loved this kid. They passed up on some really talented guys to take him.
Its all in hind sight now but if the FO knew they would land Williams at 78 then they probably would have gone WR with our second.
All in all, I love this draft! But this all means nothing unless we get a starting C and another quality WR. Michael Floyd and Eric Decker make a lot of sense. Mangold would grace us with his presence if he finally made up his mind and decides to finally chase a ring for once...
2 hours ago, Ravensfansince03 said:Like the attitude kid, I feel the same way as you. They've gotten back to the roots, back to what made this team great years ago. DEFENSE.
I'm seriously loving this draft. Don't get why so many are picking it apart. We got 4 players that were expected to go in the first 45 picks. Last year's weakness is officially a strength. CB, Pass Rush... We are set for years to come
15 hours ago, ellicottraven said:Why am I liking this pick without knowing much about him?
Because Ozzie certainly had options. A lot of them and he still took bowser!
last year there were 2 top teir talents and Ozzie was reluctant to take either because of red flags. Thus ( maybe reaching for Correa)
this guy was picked with JuJu and so many first round talent still out there. So Ozzie and Decosta are basically saying "Watch THIS!"
I honestly don't care what happens from now to the end of the draft! We already won! Let's take a few more fliers and then snatch a vet WR and C after the draft!
19 hours ago, b-morebrotha said:No more trust in Ozzie. He and Harbs hanging their hat on this pick and I think they're dunzo. DeCosta up next
I disagree 100 percent with your claim. Decosta is currently in charge of the draft not Ozzie.
side note here, did you see Decostas face during the post draft press conference? He seemed pissed!!!
4 hours ago, Maurice0094 said:It is a lot of talent on board but I don't know if we are gonna get a offensive player worthy of pick at 47. I'm holding out hope for Dawkins who can play OG/RT and Cam Robinson. But I think its more defensive players that are worth that pick like Tim Williams, Carl Lawson in round 2. I think Derek Rivers and Ryan Anderson could be good finds in round 3. I like Ryan Switzer and Cooper Kupp later in the draft they are guys who can just get open underneath and run good routes.
Cam Robinson and JuJu are probably gone within the first few picks. Now is time to move up from the 17th pick because there are probably 5 or 6 more players with first round grades. Whoever it is that Ozzie likes. You gotta go get him this time round. Don't wait for it in the second when it won't cost as much to ensure getting your guy.
kupp would be a solid pickup but I don't think he's a secret anymore. He's probably also getting drafted somewhere late second
I'm certainly not disputing that OJ is an animal. I probably like him more than you do.
watson is probably gone and pitta shouldn't even be asked to block. Pitta is still a top 10 TE in this league so let's get used to it. It wasn't pittas fault that Coordinators drew up horrible plays at horrible times. Nor was it his fault that Flacco threw him the ball.
Gilmore and Williams were second and third rounders. Just giving up on them because they got hurt is counter productive.
Sure Howard might be a bit of an upgrade from who we have but the opportunity cost is us not addressing a greater need. A pass rusher, WR, Lineman, and even a ILB would help this team more. Than an upgrade at TE.
thats all were trying to say...
What will make or break this draft is what we do following the draft. We can't address all needs but surely can solidity most
16 hours ago, bigcatfrank1 said:Could be the only player the Ravens might trade up for, we have been discussing this on other threads. Many don't agree with the trade at 7- 11. But I cannot see him dropping that ow. So could the Ravens make a play, it would be costly and probably too costly, but at 7 I would make a call and try. I'm with you, but its risky and outside the box. Jacket will tell you
I'm with you guys on this one. Fournette would demand 8 man boxes on a regular basis and relieve so much pressure off Flacco. That said, moving all the way up to 7 would cost a ransome. Sure make the call but realistically, we can't afford to move up much higher than 12. If he falls to 12 then it's a real possibility. If fournette goes in the top 8 then don't break your heart over it. It just wasn't meant to be
13 hours ago, steelcityraven said:I disagree.... I think we have quality at TE. Watson is proven. Pitta lead all TE's in receptions last year. He should only be better this year. Gilmore has shown that he can be a starting TE in this league and not just a blocking TE.
Then we have guys like Maxx, Boyle and Waller who have potential and in Waller's case has even shown some of that ability.
I think we are deep at TE both with quality and quantity. Heck we have two TEs who have posted 1000 yard seasons in this league. (yes they have had some injuries but so has Gronk, and Julius Thomas and Gates and so on... I wouldn't write them off) there are a lot of teams who just are not close to us in the quality of talent that we have at TE
I would be shocked and disappointed if we went TE- I think OJ Howard is really a top end talent but drafting him would create more dead money that we probably cannot afford to take on at this point.
(unless we are planning to use Watson and maybe even some other TEs as trade bait)????
Great post. Couldn't have said it any better. Howard is a monster but it just doesn't make sense
4 hours ago, sizzlingdoom said:It's going to be a long year on Offense if we don't grab a possession, 3rd down, tough contested catching wr.
Ju Ju Schuster Smith is a younger and more explosive version of Q. Very underrated as well.
We need to draft Ju Ju in the 2nd, it's that simple. If we add Ju Ju to Wallace and Perriman, and hopefully Camp and Moore as well, our receiving core will be as complete and as dangerous as anybody's.
We have to add an awesome possession wr though. Looks like Zay might fit the mold as well
JuJu is an animal indeed! It may be a blessing that he had a horrible QB that hurt his numbers. I'm not sure if he's available unless we move up in the second and snatch him. Kopp on film looks just as nasty but one must factor the competition. I think it's a solid plan B
2 hours ago, sizzlingdoom said:LOL
I agree with you. He's an animal, and I would be very intrigued if we took him and paired him with Mosely. Our run defense would be nuts. He just has quite a few red flags with injury and character, but I definitely don't know the specifics and details on those so it's kinda hard for me to judge that.
I guess the main thing that makes me hesitate about taking him at 16 is I feel like ILB isn't a position that you need to take high in the draft, or sign to a big contract as a free agent. ( I know, ironic coming from a Ravens fan- Ray Lewis). But we did already take Mosely that high, and I just think the 16th pick might be best spent elsewhere. If he didn't have injury or character concerns I'd be a lot more for it, but still.
I think a lineman, pass rusher, or wr would make sense for need and bpa at 16 this year. A lot of options, we'll see soon.
All in all, I wouldn't be bummed if we took Foster at 16, but I'm hoping we take Barnett, Davis, or trade back. So much value between 20-100 in this draft. Lamp looks awesome and almost most importantly, I hope we grab Ju Ju in the second.
Thanks though, I know my views on things are kinda extreme sometimes. I just put it out there though, I'm not shy and I love my birds
You make a lot of valid points. I absolutely agree that having another superstar ILB is a luxory more than a necessity. I disagree with the notion that you can have a top 10 defense without an ILB. And to his red flags, though theyr all minor issues its starting to get harder and harder to defend. I mean seriously, how stupid do you have to be to fail a drug test when you know when it is. And to add insult, he then managed to get kicked out of the combine.
as a talent tho, he's defiantly one of the best 5 players in this class. Iv been rooting for Foster all offseason but just the risk of him being suspended may take him off the board. If that's the case then I concede.
i wouldn't mind Williams or Barnett but a trade back would crush me. Who cares if you over draft the guy you like. Only trade back of someone really desperate offers you something you can't refuse.
and don't ever be shy do put your views out there as you normally do! Sometimes we agree and other times we don't. It's just the way you said it dropped me off my chair lol. we all bleed purple together ![]()

Your definitely not the only one. We would like to upgrade at WR, CB, and Pass rush. We need two more starters on the Oline! and some quality depth considering Ducass beat out Jensen, Hurst, and Urschel...
i don't think the draft alone addresses those needs

Tim williams, takksrish Mackinzy, Ryan Anderson, and Charles Harris. Please excuse my spelling lol
yeah I think your right. Williams is probably long gone by the time we draft. And take Foster off the list. News came out he failed a drug test at the combine.

If that actually happens then we can donate the remaining picks to the poor Browns. That's addressing 4 areas of need with potential pro bowlers in one draft. Are you crazy?! If this is your dream then please don't wake me up! Daaaayum!!

Well I wouldn't let the offense completely off the hook here. Although our offense finally scored a go away score, let's not act like they had good games. Against the raiders, the defense had to stop the raiders 15 times because the offense kept giving the ball right back to them. Against the Giants, our defense had to force 3 trnoveds and defend 12 drives. Against the redskins, we manager to score a total of 10 points!
If you keep giving teams the chance to take another shot at it and another and another, eventually, they'll make adjustments and it usually haunts you in the fourth quarter.
in all 3 games mentioned, we held our opponents to let points per drive than they normally average. We were lucky to not get blown out because our offense wasn't moving the ball for most of the game.
im not saying pees should be let off the hook either. We all know that the way the NFL is these days, teams rallying in the fourth get favorable calls and have favorable rules but still, you gotta hang on to some of those leads. At least half
