we pay Joe $20 some million, and don't protect him, WHY?
Because he's paid over 20 mil lol. We have to carve out bargains across the line or we'd be spending half the cap on a QB and his linemen. We already have an over achieving LT, RG, and Lewis. 2 more bargains and were set!

I agree, they won't let him go for less than a second and maybe mid round at least but I'd hope it's a sign and trade if we even trade for him. I would lose it if we can't keep him after we invest so much in a guy. But imagine how this team would look if we pull that off. Oh my my my ..........

4th round pick?
The steelers are not handing us anyone. Regardless of what we pay. And as far as Bryant, I wouldn't give anything more than a 7th for him. If I had to bet money, I'd say he fails another drug test because he can't stay away from weeeeeeeeed!!!

Id at the very least wait to see how hes doing medically. Thats not a contract you want to take on AND give up a pick for if hes not going to be 100%.
Though definitely a player to keep an eye on. Wishful thinking, but id love him here.
Yes it would. Zero of it is guaranteed. Wave a conditional 6th or 7th at them and rework his deal making it more team friendly like Wallace was. Decker has little to no leverage here so we can snatch him on the cheap

It's like saying I'll take the train to work, but still keep my Lexus...
If they really want to win with the D, Flacco is a luxury. Ryan Mallett is more than capable of manging a Dilfer-like role.
I'm not saying Flacco should be cut, of course - it's just that it's not this easy to "just make a shift"... As long as we have an expensive QB we simply cannot say the O will be the service department to the D
Well Iv been critical of Joes play at times and do believe that he's overpaid but not by much.
sure Mallett can carve out a Dilfer like role for a year then he'll demand 14-18 million in the open market just like all the Dilfer like QBs out there. Joe is better than just that and should demand around 20ish because he has a big arm and doesn't crumble under pressure. "At least untill his injury"
Il gladly pay an extra 5 mil if it ensures having a consistant QB and not rolling the dice every year on a different guy.
my main problem is when our FO tried to justify paying Joe close to 25 mil a year by bringing in high volume throwing coordinators. Then asked Joe to throw 40 times a game. Just play to his damn strengh and make sacrifices anywhere else if you have to.
and most importantly, don't give the highest paid QB another pay raise when he's coming off a horrible season and a torn ACL. That's my problem.
otherwise Joe is our guy. Let him first off play action and stretch the field with a few long bombs here and there. Don't abuse throwing the ball just because you have a 25 mil dollar QB. Let the game come to him

Then it was Wallace, who's career was taking a nose dive before he got here. People are acting like we gave Joe a legit chance to carry the team, but who did we draft for him? A bunch of TEs that can't stay healthy and Perriman, who has had one healthy season and was still very raw. Plus the line has had trouble opening up holes in the running game and giving Joe time to throw recently. There is not a qb in the league who could successfully carry a team with that. The only time hes had a realistic chance since the SB was 2014, and the offense put up at least 30 in consecutive playoff games. Even then, he didn't have a great receiving corps, just a solid one, but that's all he needs. You absolutely can build a team around Joe, but he needs more than aging veterans who are in decline, as everyone does.
Your just defending Joe and throwing everyone else under the bus!
We had a pro bowl TE, a second and third round TE. SSS was still balling untill he retired, Wallace had a thousand yards and perriman is a first rounder. Backing them up was Aiken who had 900 yards the year before. On the Oline, we had 3 pro bowlers and a first rounder?! A pro bowl full back!!!
stop throwing everyone under the bus! A lot of QBs would have gotten something out of that group! Sure they wouldn't get 5000 yards and be top 5 but they certainly wouldn't be amongst the worst in the league in efficiency.
Of you have to blame someone other than Joe then blame play calling or scheme but don't go around calling everyone around Joe a bust when he's the QB and it ultimately comes down to him.
when the O does good, Joe gets the majority of the credit because he throws them the ball. Regardless of how talented the offense is, the QB gets most of the credit when it's clicking. On the flip side, you have to accept that the QB carries the majority of the blame when it doesn't work.

Should they not draft pass rushers because they have Kafusi, Correa, and Judon? Not draft a corner because they got 31 yr old B. Carr? So go into another season praying J. Smith stays healthy and add some mid round corner to cover guys like Brown, Bryant, Green?
Oz, needs to follow up by doing what he has done successfully. Find a vet Wr (Boldin, Cruz, V Jackson are available), wait for cuts to fill in pieces and depth.
V jax is done! Boldin and Cruz are huge question marks at this point. I'm hoping for something better than just that as much as I liked all three maybe 3 years ago

I would not want to trade a 5th rounder for 1 year of Jordan Matthews. You can get similar production from a street FA like Boldin for ~1 million more in salary without losing a draft pick (assuming you sign them after May 9).
The big difference is that the Ravens are almost forced to give Matthews significant playing time while the Eagles are almost forced to play the young guns they gut. If he plays in Baltimore then he gets a market in FA but if he stays in Philli then he probably leaves for a close minimum prove it deal.
thus we may get a come in return but the Eagles probably don't.
I love me some Q but at this point in his career Matthews is the better player.
i would trade a 5th and get a late company next year to close the revolving door on a position while keeping cap space for other positions. After all we get that pick back the following year. Philli on the other hand risk loosing it all so take what you get.
46 minutes ago, sizzlingdoom said:Wow, until I read this I didn't even know LT was still on the team. No disrespect to them but neither him nor Allen will do anything with hand offs. I would say neither would make the team, but, we didn't draft a back. I see us keeping Buck for ST.
Looks like we're counting on Levine, Chuck, Allen to lead Special Teams. Which sounds great to me. Kamar was a disaster last year. I'm really hoping Camp and Webby are big contributors in that department as well.
As far as the running game goes, we'll see if we add Mangold, and we'll see how many roads the line paves. I think they can become a very very good unit if we add someone like Mangold, but it may take a month or so into the season to get there
Which is such a shame because we invested two 4th round picks on them and a lot of playing time! In the meantime guys like Demarco Murray got traded for a 4th round swap.
LT showed some promise but kept getting hurt! And Buck. Well il be nice and not comment on that lol
mangold would be a perfect fit. I don't know why the hold up?
Its funny how you conveniently said its gonna take a month or so. Of course they gonna look better when Dixon is back. I reserve judgement on Dixon until I see it myself. "Juicers" usually don't come back to 100 percent untill a year later when they go off the random test list. Just saying. I was on Dixons bandwagon all year but now I'm waaaaay of that wagon till he proves otherwise.
Forward to the 2018 draft. The Ravens select a RB in the first round. One can dream right ![]()

The silver lining that I'm trying to reason to myself about Ju Ju, and believe me, I have to fight hard to do so.....lol, is at least we have a CB that matches up perfectly against him- Mr. Jimmy.
I like your ILB idea about Bowser. Part time on any downs would work really. Cuz you're right Timmy, Sizzle, and even Judon will be coming off the edges a lot. Bowser will too, but watching that film, and with the basketball background, it definitely looks like he could turn into an absolute premier cover lb, with pass rushing skills too.
What do you think of this line up going up against a third and 12. This lineup doesn't even include CJ on the field.
Sizzle and Timmy Williams rushing from the edges With Wormley, Kufasi, and Willie Henry rushing from the inside.
TJ playing "lb" in the middle of the field
Weddle playing deep
Tavon, Jimmy, and Carr in (we'll see if Marlon takes Carr's spot. I have faith in Carr though. Esp. now that he's back to being a number 2)
Then just have Bowser walking back and forth down the line before the snap. Let him diagnose the play. Either hang in the middle to hold it down with TJ, watch for a back coming out of the backfield, or just go get the QB with the rest of the boys!
And that lineup is without Marlon, Judon, Webb, and Mosely on the field.....
SO much depth, talent, and versatility for our D.
Let's add a couple more to the O and I'll be counting down the days til September
I think that would be impressive. I don't think we'd line up with 3 big guys on a third and 12 but take any of them out and put Mosley in lol
did I mention that I really really like this D?!!
march 11 is when FAs don't count against comp picks any more. Looking forward to that date.

I thought to myself "well, there's no way this kid is getting drafted," and then sure enough... lol.
That said, maybe he can improve his hands. I doubt it, since that's not something that usually gets better, but I've seen it happen before (Brandon Marshall comes to mind). I hope he proves me wrong.
And I don't see the Ravens offering enough to get Matthews, but I suppose anything is possible. I honestly don't want him unless it's for a late round pick; he's pretty average.
I think a 5th gets the job done. Matthews is not great but he's certainly better than just average and certainly better than anyone WR we get in the fifth.
eagles should take whatever they get because they already have 1st rounders on that squad and just drafted 2 more guys. Unless they plan on losing Matthews for nothing then they should take what they can now.
On May 1, 2017 at 1:50 AM, Underdogsontop! said:Can someone lmk when we sign mangold and Q? I'm thinking siragusa might be a candidate for Center too.
No he is not. No 4th round rookie should be asked to start at C. That's just setting him up for failure. Get a dangon C and roll the dice anywhere else. If a guard struggles then you simplify things for him or bench him. If your C struggles then your screwed! All 5 linemen look bad and Flacco pays the price of you start rookie C and he struggles....

I call Rodgers in the same boat. I call all quarterbacks in the same boat actually, especially Brady: who i call "mr pick and lateral" and just plain overrated.
Rodgers with me and you blocking for him manages to put together a season better than Flaccos best so let's not compare apples to grapes.
Flacco needs an elite line to succeed and so do about 28 other QBs. No shame in that but let's not compare that to Rodgers. When Rodgers has a solid line, he throws for 5k yards 50 TDs and like 7 INTs.

If they had even a somewhat competent GM and had not blown picks like Manziel and Weeden, I think they would be poised to give us trouble soon, and may anyway. The Ravens are going to have to make up some ground.
I agree. I though the Browns had an A+ draft. They just took playmakers with high upsides and gathered even more picks in the future.
side note:- it must suck to be peppers when you fall so far then the brown move up and take you lol. It's like you sacrifice your money to go to a better team then the worst team ends up getting you on the cheap
17 minutes ago, sizzlingdoom said:I'm not too worried about that. It's the NFL, anyone can get hurt. Plus he only got hurt in 14', and sure it took him a long time to get back, but that's really the only injury of his career. I would bet anything he wants to go out with a bang. He still has some serious fire, desire, and game.
Going into the year with Cruz, Wallace, Perriman....would make me feel 10x better than if we didn't add anyone, which we might not. I would love for Camp to work that slot, but I think we all know Camp makes Jimmy Smith look like the ultimate iron man. We just simply need to add another piece or two if we're planning on beating NE in January. And I know there are some pessimists on here, or realists as they say, but I know we can.
I too love what we have done this offseason, I just wish we would've already added another wr or back. What can you do though. The defense is going to be nasty. Honestly I like Awuzie and Tabor better than Humphrey, and they went about a full round and a half later, but Marlon is now a Raven. And there's no denying he has potential. I just hate that word around here. At least he's walking into a perfect situation. Our first 2 picks are not 100% ready to start imo, which is kinda crazy, but they have potential. But so did AB and Elam. And to be honest, I was excited about Elam and AB when we drafted them. Bowser and Marlon could become bigtime players for us, but they're going to have to work incredibly hard to get there. Our 3rd round picks however, imo, are beautiful. Both ready to contribute right away. Chris can play anywhere on the line imo. Anywhere, while be effective from each spot. And we all know we're just going to put Timmy out there with one mission, GET THE QB.
I don't think there's any doubt we will be much better than last year, but if we want to go deep into January, and be playing in February, we need to add one or two offensive pieces imo. And they don't have to be big ones, at least contract wise. Not that we have a ton of money anyways. This is a pretty simple and basic approach, but I'm think we should cut Arrington and Watson. And sign Mangold and Cruz. I seriously believe that those 2 would upgrade our offense exponentially
Oh no don't get me wrong, Cruz or Q would surely make me feel better about this team but please excuse my greed. I'm hoping for something a bit better than just that.
I think your underestimating the value of Hump. He's a top ten talent and it shouldn't take him all season to become the starter. Carr was a great addition but hump can be a multiple pro bowler that can just take your best WR out of a game. He's even better! You don't get the opportunity to grab one of those guys without paying less than 10 mil a year so we're good.
Juju would have been nice but he's a steeler now and I hate him lol
When it comes to Bowser, I think he's the starter come September! Pass rush was a greater need as we have 2 good receivers but only one aging pass rusher that I still love but finally have to admit that his days are numbered.
Also, I don't think enough is said about Bowsers cover skills... He can really hang with anyone. And It makes me imagine a formation where Suggs and Williams rush from the outside. Judon from the inside and Bowser playing ILB with Mosley on obvious passing downs

We have seen in the past couple of years where our secondary has gotten decimated, specifically the corners. This guy is an awesome player.
I'm not disappointed AT ALL!
WELCOME TO BALTIMORE MARLON.... TIME TO BUCKLE IT UP DUDE!
And for those reasons I am so fired up! How many NFL teams have 2 legit shutdown Corners? And how many of them have 2 probowl safeties protecting their backs?
The past couple of years it's been a bumpy ride whenever Jimmy goes down because the dropoff was so great from him to the next best CB. This year we have a legit shutdown corner lining up across from him and a legit vet that can handle any #2 or #3 WR. Add a nasty slot CB in young and there really isn't much of a drop off. At least not enough to change your gameplan if Jimmy goes down.
now if we are healthy?! Oh lord. We can shut down your top 4 WRs man to man with our secondary.
did I mention that I'm fired up? Lol
Terrence west is not the only one that should feel fired up about this draft. LT and Allen should also thank their stars and come prepared to prove their worth. Woodhead is taking their downs and Dixon comes back week 5 so this ship is sailing with or without them.
