I'm so sorry bro I thought that was a given. Judon is our current McPhee. He'll play OLB and DE here and there. He'll be a great player for another 3 years then probably land us a comp. I really like this kid
4 hours ago, hn68wb4 said:Do you think Darrelle Revis is done? his drop off last year was steep and he admitted to weight issues, but I think somewhere I read that he lost a bunch of weight already for next season. Just throwing that out there.
Don't hold this against me if I'm wrong because Iv never encountered such a weird situation and contract. Sorry it's gonna be a long one....
1- I have never seen a superstar fall off a cliff so fast in my life. Like he didn't decline, he just nose dived! Part of that is his desire to play for the sorry jets, part of it is his injury ( revis was arguably the best bump CB in history and you can't do that with a busted wrist) And finally Father Time took its toll on him in those 2 years so no one really knows how much he has left in the tank. Are we ever going to see revis island again, probably not. Is he worse than 64 starting NFL CBs, I doubt it.
2- his contract is so weird. The Jets are on the hook for the first 6 or 8 million of his contract. So basically if a team signs him for the minimum, the Jets pay the rest. If a team signs him for 10 mil, the jets pay 6 of that. Here's the catch. If revis stays at home or retires that money is gone. Thus, I find it hard to believe that he's just gonna throw away 6 million dollars.
3- Then there is his arrest. If that isn't resolved then no one is touching him with a wooden stick. If he does resolve that then you will see teams showing interest. The risk is literally zero to sign him and the jets are forced to pay the difference.
Last but not least, I want to see how much pride Revis still has. Last year, he wasn't just bad. He was literally getting picked on by young cats. The NFL literally had to intervene to prevent him from getting insulted publicly. If revis feels that he can't recover from that then he should just retire. Don't even think of that 6 mil because all the money in the world can't buy your reputation back. On the other hand, if revis can be 70 or 80 percent of what he was. I can see him helping a team. Let's say he goes to the patriots for the minimum. The jets pay him 5 mil and Gilmore plays agains the best WR every week. That leaves Revis against #2 WRs on a week to week basis. I think he can pull that off and retire on a good note. O certainly hope he doesn't if that's how he does it lol
4 hours ago, The Raven said:I do, but I don't think he's what we should be looking for. I'd like to see us find a long term answer in the first round of the draft.
Well it depends on what you consider "long term". The NFL is a win now league. So basically no one really thinks 6 or 7 years down the road unless your talking QB.
Here's how I look at it. If you draft someone then there's absolutely no guarantee that the player stays on your team after the rookie deal(4 years). Even if you do keep the player, your paying market value and that's like signing the best FA in that position. So I'd say a 3 or 4 year starter is long term. In Connor Barwin case, he's 30 and in Pass Rusher years he still has gas in the tank.
now Barwin or not the Ravens should take a pass rusher with one of the first 2 picks regardless. With that being said, there's no guarantee that pass rusher is a 3 down NFL ready pass rusher day one. (Those guys will probably be gone in the top 10)
so ideally we'd have Barwin and Suggs starting 2017 and a rookie playing in situations where he excels untill he is 100% NFL ready. Next year, Suggs (35) can play in specific situations and Barwin would start with that rookie.
i really think Barwin is a perfect fit! He's the perfect guy as we transition to the next generation of pass rushers without real downtime

I am disappointed and I will miss seeing him on Sundays.
I still cringe every time I see this headline. It's so unfortunate but understandable. I wish nothing but the nest for Webb. And heck if he can't find value in FA then I'd gladly welcome him back
5 hours ago, CaliRavenFan said:Unfortunately he won't be able to play at all this year so I don't see a team taking him until at least the 3rd round. I wouldn't mind him and Jake Butt (TE) both are very talented players slipping to the 3rd because of injuries. They will both be able to take a year off to heal and learn the system before stepping in and being major contributors next year.
I'd actually like that very much. If we take a flyer on a first round talent in the third round then it's so worth it. Heck let him sit a year. Besides, we have another 3rd round pick this year. Hope your right on this one ![]()

We knows Ravens like him, bad news if serious how can you take him in tge 1st round?
Good? Maybe you get him a round or 2 later
If he falls to the second and we do land him then it would be great news but that's a big if and a lot of luck is involved so don't coins on it lol.
until that happens, any player projected to go in the top 20 getting hurt or off field trouble is bad news.it simply decreases the possibility of a top 10 talent falling to the Ravens at 16
11 hours ago, EdTheMythicalOne said:This is going to be a long post and I apologize in advance for it because there is just so much I disagree with and have to adjust for sake of maximum correctness. I honestly don't know how a writer for the Ravens site can get away with making certain cases that appear in this article without presenting the whole truth. So please allow this novice to take the pro to some school and I will let the fans/posters here figure out who makes a better point. Maybe I should be writing for this site?
First of all, the main premise of this article is to not judge players too soon or to use one piece of evaluation to measure the success rate of a pick. Then the author goes on to use SALARY as the main measuring stick to prove that these players are something special. How many horrible QB's are getting paid crazy money these days? Teams have the ability to throw around crazy money in the days of the increasing salary cap. Poor teams will overpay for marginal talent all the time. Why not use some actual factual data to dictate who was or was not a good player.
Secondly, I think any time a team completely whiffs hard on their top two draft picks that draft is considered a bust. These are supposed to be players that are cornerstones of your franchise for years to come and both Elam and Brown contributed almost nothing in terms of on field production. The Ravens spent a lot of money and other resources in trying to correct those draft mistakes.
Third, the author brings up the lack of playing time for Brandon Williams, Kyle Juszcyck, and the release of John Simon. What the author fails to mention is that in Williams' rookie season he had a certain superstar Haloti Ngata and another second round bust pick in Terrence Cody ahead of him on the depth chart. At DE he had Arthur Jones and Chris Canty ahead of him. Where in that line up do you expect him to get snaps. His snaps came subbing in for Ngata after Cody got hurt again.
In Juice's case he had a superb lead blocker in Vonte Leach in front of him. Can you blame the Ravens for starting Leach over Juice? Juice was also a 4th round pick which is extremely high for a fullback. Most of them aren't even drafted anymore. Then there is John Simon who was behind Elvis Dumervil, Terrell Suggs, and Courtney Upshaw (another high pick bust in my opinion). He just was a numbers game cut plain and simple. Nobody was judging him at the time or labeling him as a bust.
Rick Wagner was a good tackle and I don't think he's worth the insane amount of money he's getting paid. It is just a matter of the current market dynamics. Lack of talent on the market and tons of cap space for some teams. Do you think Rick Wagner is the best RT in the game of football? I certaintly don't but he's getting paid like it.
Last year's draft won't be considered a bust because Ronnie Stanley appears to be the real deal. Any time you can grab a franchise LT in the draft you have to be tickled pink. Our second and third round picks are a bit questionable because Correa did almost nothing coming out of a small school and then Kaufusi is an old rookie who got hurt in his first season and couldn't play. Willie Henry and Carl Davis also couldn't contribute last season due to injuries so nobody is really judging them just yet.
The issue in Correa's case is all the hype he was getting from this site in training camp and in the pre season. He was making headlines more for his after play scuffles than his actual production. To have him wipe out as an edge rusher and then struggle in his conversion to MLB is obviously going to draw some ire, but this season will be his redemption phase. Nobody has closed the door on him yet.
As you mentioned, Bwill and Juice were not drafted with any expectation to start. They both had some development to do but after that they did great.
it sure sucks that Elam and Brown just busted like they did but it's not fair to call that class a complete bust because of it. Look at it this way. If Bwill Wagner and Juice were drafted 1,2,3 then would we still be debating this? 3 pro bowlers in 1 class is considered a sucess.
basically what I'm trying to say is.... Our FO should be blamed for missing on the first two but also should be given credit for the later rounds as they killed it! So calling the draft a bust is a reach in my opinion
On March 10, 2017 at 5:10 AM, jdynamite said:Yeah I'm with you. We all love Williams but my gosh that's a lot for a NT. What are they gonna do if Jernigan has a Pro Bowl year next year. Let him walk a presume.
It's simple, they find a way to keep Jernigan too. Williams doesn't play on most third downs.... Yeah his presence forces 3rd and longs and more 3 and outs than anyone!
People please, BWill is one of best NTs in football. He's definitely worth at least 10 mil a year. If your ever gonna overpay by a mil or 2, it's to keep a player like that. Mosley, Stanley, and maybe even jernigan are players you find a way to keep in their prime.

cuz we are rebuldin but we aint doin what has to be done
Looool I had to read that 3 times and I'm still not sure I understand it all.
Il attempt to reply so here goes...
We're in win now mode because Jefferson is the only FA we got the past few years that's actually younger than 29. We're in win now mode because wev dipped into upcoming years cap to spend now. We're in win now mode because we're changing staff members but not the philosophy. It it was rebuild mode we would change our style of blocking or passing or defense. Instead we are trying to tweak vs blowing it all up.
wheather or not I believe this team has what it takes to go all the way is a different discussion. Whats becoming increasingly obvious is that our FO believes that this team can. This they are trying to win with this team. The day they believe this team can't go all the way then they will blow it up. Trade a few guys for picks and swallow a whole lot of dead cap for a year then have about 50mil to work with the next year.
20 hours ago, The Raven said:I thought we were in a rebuilding phase but I'm not sure the FO sees it that way. As I said in the free agency thread, I don't think you make the deals we've made unless you think you can win now and Jefferson is the piece to get us over the hump.
Our FO proved that we are in win now mode last off season and this off season theyr leaving no doubt

Webb is one of the easiest guys to love as a fan! I'm so heartbroken but I absolutely understand the move.
if he comes back then I'd be the first to celebrate. If not then il thank him for 8 awesome years. Effort was never Webbs downfall and he was never a negative distraction. Thank you thank you thank you Webby!!
One of my fav Ravens once upon a time. Thank you for great years at Baltimore and good luck. Keep the FA signings going OZ!
Not a huge fan of mallet but 1 year 2 mil is a sweet deal for the Ravens. Looking around at how much backup Qbs are being paid, I think mallet is taking a paycut to stay in Baltimore and I am tgankful for that.
if Flacco (knock on wood) tears an ACL then the season is just about over regardless of who the backup is. But if he gets banged up for a few games, mallet can hold the fort till Flacco is back.

I have a hard time thinking we're not going after him right now
Signing Jefferson and Keeping BWill just improved our run D from last year already. If we add Brown, we will have THE best run D the whole year next year. We all loved Orr, but Brown would be a upgrade over Orr vs the run
Not to mention Carl Davis should/better get involved this year. Putting BWIll, Pierce, and Davis next to each other on obvious running down will be a thing of beauty
I don't think it's possible our O can be any worse next year, but Ravens football has always been about defense to me
And I'm already excited to watch our D next year. Great job in FA FO
I'm also very excited to see this revamped D next year. I also really like Zack brown but don't think it's the best fit. We need a ILB that is better than Mosley at coverage so Mosley can stay close to the line where he's at his best and his partner can drop more. That's what made Orr a perfect fit.
2 minutes ago, BigUgly said:Agreed, but at some point we have to expect guys like Urban, Kuafusi and Davis to step up. I think Ozzie will find a veteran, Chris Canty-type guy later in FA to plug any remaining voids on the D Line. Edge rusher and CB are the biggest concerns, IMO.
Connor Barwin is still out there! He's a perfect fit!

I don't want to sound like someone who can only be grumpy (my avatar notwithstanding :D) - but losing Guy would IMHO be a much bigger loss than most people would think... He was one of the true unsung heroes of our D last season.
I agree 100 percent. Guy has done nothing but outplay every contract we handed him. It would be a shame if he gets overlooked and lands with the pats on a team friendly deal
9 hours ago, YorkCountyRaven said:A lot of what people are missing is if we do go ahead and pursue Claiborne that allows us to use our 1st round pick on a pass rusher or even inside linebacker. Reuben Foster will be sitting there to take over Orr or a pass rusher that could take over Doom. If we don't pursue Claiborne the obvious first round pick should be corner, as you stated tavon is impressive but is better suited for the nickel and Jimmy is a great number 1 but he always gets hurt. In my opinion this would be a good signing.
I agree, clayborn would be a great signing. Would open up all our options in the draft. I hope this goes through ASAP
5 hours ago, reed20 said:We cannot catch a break with running backs.
You def got that right! Wev invested two 3rd round picks and a 4th on running backs while our past 3 starters are guys we picked up in FA
i looked over the list of starting RBs taken in the 3rd round and beyond over that span and here's some of them.
Ajayi, Freeman(ATL), David Johnson, Jordan Howard, Dwayne Washington, Lankford, duke Johnson, Mckinon
it kills me that we can't get this right and have to revisit this every offseason instead of investing our limited cap space elsewhere
7 hours ago, MadStorkSociety said:So it looks like everyone was wrong!
I for one wasn't lol. Iv been saying all year that Williams is the kind of player that you make sacrifices for.
I have to admit tho. I didn't expect anything over 10 mil per year.
Man other great signing for the Ravens! No one can run against us. Now we need 1 pass rusher and a #2 CB in case Jimmy gets hurt. Tavon sliding to Nickle is just icing on the cake.
2 hours ago, sizzlingdoom said:This not only fills a need but this guy is a play maker in his prime, that is getting better every year. He's also hungry and plays like a Raven on the field. He will be a fan favorite in no time.
He is one of the best Safeties in the game right now, and our defense is only going to make him better.
I thought he was going to cost a bit more
Considering price tag, age, position, the whole FA market ( weak),....taking everything into consideration, this might've been the best FA to sign this year.
I'm incredibly impressed with his film. Our D next year.......we'll still add a corner, or two, and another pass rusher. And the ILB spot will be Way easier to fill than most think imo.
Great job FO
That film is impressive to say the least. I went back and watched 4 cardinals games against good QBs last year. This guy literally plays like an undersized LB close to the line and his cover skills are not bad at all! He can man up with most TEs if needed.
i wouldn't be surprised if he plays ILB on third and long. He can literally line up anywhere pre snap and mark just about anyone other than #1 WRs.
organized chaos....?
3 hours ago, sizzlingdoom said:I don't think he was overpaid at all. Great work FO
Don't get me wrong, I love the move and love the player! I just feel like 9 mil is a bit too much in comparison to weddle who's averaging 6.5 per year and Jefferson was expected to get around 7 mil per year in FA

I hate to sound mean or nasty but this is just horrible!
Not everything can be measured by numbers, statistics, and analytics! We are probably the most loyal Ravens fans in the world. You can't measure loyalty! The world is changing but yet we are still here so as a reward, the decision makers are saying "heck there's not enough of you left so let's kill this"
i personally read every word on the news and Ravens talk boards! Every one! And I didn't even do that studying for finals in University.
Heck, I buy a jersey just about every year so why don't you make one with 00 and name it Flock! Il buy it and so will so many others. Use that money to keep this running. I'd rather wear that on my back than a player that's probably gone in a few years
to all the moderators and admins. Seriously, thank you for putting up with us for years. I love and appreciate you guys. I'm just pissed off at the one decision maker that made this decision without any input from us stakeholders. That's so Un-Raven
