Love the moves so far this offseason. Huge draft coming up.
Here's a thought/plan I find very interesting-
I think we're undeniably building a top 3 Defense. Especially considering it seems we're going to use a first or 2nd rounder on a pass rusher.
What about trading #16 and next year's first rounder to go get Fournette? Then pass rusher in the 2nd. Sign Mangold. Then go Oline the rest of the draft and grab a possession wr and a cb.
All of that = an insane and punishing run game, not to mention when Dixon comes back and teams up with Fournette.
That run game + a top 3 Defense
Also Perriman and Wallace's speed off Fournette play action with Joe's arm would be deadly.
That team would straight punish teams, every week.
Coaching and play calling would have to make a serious effort to screw up a team with that personnel.
If we did this, I think it would set us up for the AFC championship game for at least 3 or 4 of the next 5 years.
Side note rant- all of you people calling Weddle old.....get real. He was still rated as one of the top 2 safeties in the league last year. Not top 10, top 2. Age doesn't apply to everyone. Did you guys not just watch Smitty for the past few years? He has a Solid 2 years left. At a minimum of a pro bowl level. Not to mention, not only is he getting bumped to FS, which will preserve his body. But everyone around him in the secondary just improved, which is about to make his job a lot easier.
im seeing one too many articles on how bad our DL has gotten because we lost JERNIGAN AND GUY.. well what about DAVIS.. HENRY.. KAFUSI.. that's like 3 rookies we just got to replace them.. ALL 3 DIDNT PLAY LAST YEAR.. its like adding 3dl to our DRAFT ... AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
And Urban and Pierce. And at least one big guy from the draft, and a pass rusher in the first couple rounds. Our front 7 is definitely going to be better than last year. And our secondary is DEFINITELY going to be better. If we add Barnett or Takk in the draft and stay healthy, I think we easily have the number 1 defense in the NFL next year. Timmy was so overrated. People that thought we would definitely get a 3rd round comp pick from him ( which is really an early 4th anyways) are trippin. Jonathan Hankins is a very very similar player. He thought he was going to land a huge contract this offseason.....yet he's still on the market. That was a beautiful trade by Ozzie. Not to mention this is easily the best draft I've ever seen. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say this. That pick number 74 in this draft, is equal to pick 44 in most drafts. Our dline, and every part of our D for that matter, will be better than last year
I had high hopes for Kafusi last year but this year we almost need him to step up.
Freakish athlete?? That is a little much. Outside of his 3 cone his lower body explosion is pedestrian. I'm not a fan of him at all. He isn't strong at all for 285lbs. He isn't athletic enough to play rush olb in a 3-4. He failed miserably at it in college. Didn't like the pick at that time. And he has not grown on me. I don't believe he has the juice to beat NFL tackles. I would like some edge rushers and penetrators in this draft like Tim Williams/Carl Lawson and DJ Jones/Malik McDowell
His strength is a big concern of mine as well. If he trains hard and changes that, he can contribute, hopefully
The additions won't necessarily have the biggest effect on our record. I think play calling and chemistry will have the biggest effect along with which units we bolster in the draft.
If Flacco gets his lazy self out on the field this summer with his boys, we will see a lot better in game performances.
If Ozzie pulls out his wand and takes a couple of build blocks early, such as Barnett, Tim Williams, M.Williams, Dan Feeney, Forrest Lamp, etc., we will have a talented unit.
I agree, the play calling and coaching is what held us back last year. Flacco wasn't great either to say the least.
And Shareece Wright was on our team.
But one thing I don't think you're accounting for-
Tony Jefferson is going to have a HUGE impact.
Carr essentially replacing Wright is HUGE as well
Foster... Reddick.. Cook.. Davis.. .Barnett...Mike Williams and Peppers are all on board at 16... who do you choose? ... The one player I desperately think would be the perfect raven is TIM WILLIAMS... what a bad butt MF
Hmmm... nice list. I really don't have a specific choice but l prefer either Foster, Davis, Barnett, or Williams. If either of those 4 are still on the board, you got to take him. If none of the guys l mention are gone, then trade back a couple of spots. I hope l don't see them trade back when either are these guys are still on the board when we pick. So l hope that's not the case. 👍
Nice. Agreed
Foster... Reddick.. Cook.. Davis.. .Barnett...Mike Williams and Peppers are all on board at 16... who do you choose? ... The one player I desperately think would be the perfect raven is TIM WILLIAMS... what a bad butt MF
trade back 3-4 spots and take whoever's left of foster, barnett, davis, williams
None of those guys would be available. Barnett is a Top 10 pick if not #4 to the Jags. The Bungels probably take Foster. Buffalo takes Mike Williams. If we don't take Davis at 16, the Titans at 18 or Bucs at 19 will take him.
It's possible any one of those guys are there. I would bet anything Barnett doesn't go top 5. Probably not even top 10.
The Bengals could go any direction, hard to predict that pick and the domino effect from there. But I could see them going Taco. He's their type of defender.
I could see Buffalo going Williams.
If Davis is on the clock at 16, Barnett and Takk and Foster are the only ones that I think would make us hesitate from taking Davis. Why do I have this feeling Ozzie is in love with Cam as well
There is some depth at Edge and WR, but it will be depleted after the second round. I think the Ravens need to take BPA from those two positions in the first two rounds, and then look CB, C, OG, and/or ILB over rounds 3-4.
agreed. With that statement, are you assuming Lewis is gonna play RT, LG, or be a reserve?
We've gotta go Mangold, or draft Elfein or Pocic to play Center. Relying on drafting one of the two would be risky, and require a high pick. If we're planning on playing Lewis at LG, Mangold would be the perfect person to play right next to him.
There is ZERO chance we draft Peppers, luckily. Our top 3 safeties are set in stone for at least 2 years, and no, the Ravens aren't bringing in a 213 pound "ILB".
If Peppers is there and the Ravens don't take him, they need someone else to do the picking. This guy is the real deal and we are really hurting for linebackers that can cover. Only Moseby is of the caliber that we need. Suggs injuries have slowed him really bad. It is a shame, but, at his age, he should think about packing it in. He was nothing after that injury last year.
Peppers is about the last thing we need. A 213 lb pound "LB"?? That can cover?? 1 career interception and 1 pass defensed last year. Vs college players. There aren't any 213 pound linebackers in the NFL for a reason. We just signed our own, proven version of Peppers, to a 34 million dollar contract to play SS. There's no room for Peppers on the Ravens
Why even speculate on this crap? There is no possible way that Sherman comes to the Ravens. Why not just wish for Tom Brady too? It would make about as much sense and be just as unfathomable. Instead of wasting time on this garbage, how about some realistic possibilities to ponder?
It's only a waste of your time if you take the time to read it and comment....lol....bummer it upset you. And yeah, it makes just as much sense for Brady to come over as Sherman??......not
Heck, I'd give up a 2018 first rounder and then some for him. If we added him to our team right now without giving up any picks this year, the 1rst rounder that we would give up next year would be pick 32 imo. Maybe pick 30 at the very worst
And how would you fit his cap figure under the limit?
Trade Brandon Carr + 2018 first rounder for him. + another 4th or 5th if needed.
And I think we're able to clear nearly another 7 mil in space by letting go of Watson and Arrington- not sure if Arrington's physical or whatever is still prolonging that.
I bet 1 or 2 players would be willing to restructure too, but I don't even think that would be needed. We could fit him if we want.
It would've been much more feasible before signing Carr, but it could still be done.
Could trade Jimmy and a 2018 2nd rounder or something too.
If we paired Sherman with Tavon and either Carr or Jimmy, plus our absurd Safety tandem, it'd be over.
It's not like we'd be sacrificing anything in the front 7 either. We're still gonna add probably a 1rst rounder opposite Suggs, and still have the best run D. Adding TJ improves our run D big time.
If we traded for Sherman we would have THE best defense for the next 2 years no questions asked. Probably in just about every category too. I know how small the chances are, but PLEASE Ozzie?
Heck, I'd give up a 2018 first rounder and then some for him. If we added him to our team right now without giving up any picks this year, the 1rst rounder that we would give up next year would be pick 32 imo. Maybe pick 30 at the very worst
Not bad food for thought, get him to re-structure for a 3 year contract, get him to sign for 20 mil ( 6,7,8) fill it with bonuses, defer the cap, and give them #1 in 2018 and maybe a 4th or 5th this year- plus throw in Keenan Renolds.
Keenan could run option for them and even sub at the QB position for Wilson. He most probably will never make the Ravens starting squad.
Why not get something for him.
Call Oz...I think your on to something. We need to make deals to get to the Super Bowl this year! We can deal then leave everyone in place and repeat in 2018. Then off load him in the 3rd year.
It's so doable. We would have the number 1 defense for the next 2 years. Not to mention we'll be adding a 1rst or 2nd rounder in all likeliness to put on the other side of Suggs
Heck, I'd give up a 2018 first rounder and then some for him. If we added him to our team right now without giving up any picks this year, the 1rst rounder that we would give up next year would be pick 32 imo. Maybe pick 30 at the very worst
I highly doubt the Ravens are interested at all.
Here's a quick offer off the top of my head though.
Brandon Carr+ a 2018 2nd and 4th rounder for Sherman- we would have the cap space for that. Especially after Watson and Arrington depart
Sherman, Jimmy and Tavon at corner. With Weddle and TJ at Safety........um yeah, OK
I think Lattimore, Davis, Williams, and Barnett could likely be gone by the time we pick, though an early run on QBs or OL could change that. There is a chance Fournette could slide to them, but that is unlikely. I think the Ravens trade of Jernigan indicates they think there are 1st-round equivalent players available as late as #75 overall. If they can trade back and net another pick in that range, I think they take it. I could see the Texans moving up to grab a QB.
I'm with that 100%. I truly do believe 100% that there will be multiple players going in round 3 that would go in round one in most drafts
I think the ravens will trade back,, however if Davis ,Williams or Barnett is there at pick #16 i can almost guarantee you that we will stay put and draft one of these guys.
Agreed. I would add Foster to that list
i just cant wait for the draft
Me either. This class is LOADED
I'm not completely sold on M Williams , yes the measurable are there, but not sure on his route running or desire , I think defense should be focus in first round,
There are really good WR to be had in 2nd and 3rd round
I agree. If his desire to be great and learn routes and everything is there, he'll be great, but there's no way for us to tell.
I agree with your post.
Barnett or Takk would be Awesome additions. Taco is very interesting as well.
Then I know a lot of people like Zay and Kupp, but if there's one player in this draft I hope we take, it's Ju Ju Smith Schuster. Everything you could ever ask for, he has. On and off the field. He just doesn't run a 4.4 Big deal I say. I think he ran a 4.54 or something. He just looks like a faster and more athletic Boldin to me. Exactly who we should pair with Perriman and Wallace. It's ridiculous to me that it looks like he'll be going in the 2nd, at best.
There will undoubtedly be immediate starters in the 3rd round this year.
I'm hoping Barnett, Davis, or Foster slip to 16. Otherwise this is the draft to trade back. Giving up picks for next year, trading back, whatever it takes, if I were the GM I would try to accumulate as many picks as possible between picks 20-120 this year. Ozzie's already been working on that. If we add 1 or 2 difference makers on Defense in this draft, I'll be more excited to watch the D this year than I have in so many years!
Ideal draft:
1. WR Corey Davis
2. OLB Carl Lawson
3. CB Teez Tabor
3. RT Roderick Johnson
4. C Tyler Orlosky
5. RB D'Onte Foreman
6. QB Brady GustafsonThose top 3 would be amazing. Tabor has to go in the 2nd though. He's a first round CB all day. Top 20 player as well. He was hurt at the combine and pro day, plus it's a classic example of people overeacting about times. His tape is all I care about. Depending on how the draft goes, I ideally would like to go Wr and OLB with our first 2 picks in either order. But taking Tabor with our second pick would be very tempting. Before people were losing their minds with combine numbers, some had him going 5th to the Titans. he is that good.
I think Foreman goes in the second for sure. People won't be able to get over his weight+the 40 time he put up at his pro day.
Corey Davis would be awesome but I think he'll be gone. I actually might prefer Ju Ju over Williams, and he's gonna go about a round later for some reason.
Davis then Lawson would be an awesome start, but something similar that I'm digging a little more would be
Barnett then Ju JuWhile I agree about Tabor's talent, I still think his 40 time and off field issues (especially the substance abuse) will push him down. Maybe some team like the Cowboys take him BUT a couple of those top CBs are going to fall into the top of Round 3 (might be Sutton, Moreau, Jones, Tankersly, Awuzie, etc). Foreman still drops because of his lack of pass catching abilities and some immaturity issues on the field but someone can fall in love with his 40 time. Don't think he's as good as Derrick Henry - who was a 2nd Rounder last year.
Barnett is a Top 10 pick (and may go to the Jags at 4) but no way does he fall to us at 16. Still wouldn't mind Ozzie trading that 3rd and going up and getting him.
CB, WR & RB always get too much love in mock drafts and it's always DL, Pass Rushers & OL than actually get taken in the top picks (See Conklin, Rankins, Kelly, Decker for 2016). Those guys will fall - good for us. Cleveland, Buffalo & Cincy are the only ones in front of us that I can see taking a WR. Cincy desperately needs LB help (Reuben Foster) or O-line help (Cam). Buffalo probably takes Mike Williams. Will Cleveland take a QB, WR like Davis or TE like Howard (maybe CB Humphrey)? ARZ, Philly & Indy (13,14,15) are loaded at WR.
IDK, I don't think Barnett has a chance of going in the top 5 with guys like Adams, Hooker, Lattimore, Fournette, Garret, and Soloman Thomas around. DJ mocked him to us in his latest mock. It's possible he slips to 16. Especially cuz he didn't eliminate any concerns of his athleticism in the pre draft process. I think it would be terrific to add Barnett to our team, but giving up a third rounder in this draft is too much for me. Might be worth it but I wouldn't do. I'd rather move back and get Lawson, then have 2 more picks in the top 90 instead of none. Barnett would be a great add though. Especially since he can learn from Sizzle for a year. This third is going to be loaded with starters and even some pro bowl players. This is the draft to move back, unless a stud falls to 16. Davis, Foster, and Barnett are the ones I'm hoping slip to 16. I would hate to use the 16th pick in the draft on an ILB, Again. But putting him in the middle of the defense is super tempting
Corey Davis, Mike Williams or Derek Barnett or even Rueben Foster. Any of these players and I'm a happy man.
Perfectly put. I think Wr and OLB are more pressing, but putting Foster in the middle of our defense would be ridiculous
we are on the clock at 16 mike william and corey davis are still there who do you pick?
I think Davis for sure. I think he's more ready to contribute right away, and has a higher ceiling. Having said that, I think Williams has better hands
Awesome Trade! Awesome attitude by Timmy too
Williams looks good, but Frankly I might rather have Ju Ju. Not to mention Ju Ju is going about a full round later for some reason.
Going Barnett then Ju Ju still looks ideal to mewhat do you think about Zay?
He looks intriguing. It's just a lot harder for me to be confident about him translating to the NFL, because of the level of competition he played against. That's not to say he won't be awesome, but the evaluating process is harder imo. He looks like a similar player to Ju Ju. I think Ju Ju might be a tiny bit more explosive on the field. From character, to drive, to play on the field, I love every part of Ju Ju's game. On and off the field. I'm not as educated on Zay. It also sounds like Zay is moving up boards and possibly sneaking into the late 1rst. I've gotta check him out a little more. I just really don't understand why Ju Ju is being talked about as the 5th or 6th wr in this class. It's crazy to me. To me he looks like a more athletic and explosive version of Q. Exactly what we need. Zay or Ju Ju would pair super nicely with Breshad
One thing it allows us to do is bump TJ inside to a LB spot on passing downs, so Mosely is the only true LB on the field, if that.
The Three year part is a little weird to me. I want to see the contract details. But like a lot of people on here, I think it's a good signing.
A lot of people on here think he can play cb outside and the slot.....I'm not so sure about either of those. I think his traditional cb play has been slipping for years.
But I do think he can still play FS, and cb when we play zone with more dbs on the field.
I also think he can field punts. He might not be Hester or Jacoby in their prime, but I think he can do a serviceable job. Especially fair catches inside the 20. A mix of Webb, Camp, and a draft pick returning kicks sounds great to me. I'm curious what Moore has to offer as well.
But having Webb's sure hands to return punts sounds terrific. I feel like I've been biting my lip and cringing on every punt return since our 2nd SB year. Especially Jacoby the year after. It's such an important an underrated part of the game. It'd be nice to have stability back there.
I haven't watched any of Adoree Jackson's CB tape, not return tape. I know he's electric in the return game, but I would want to think he can become a very good cb if I was going to spend a 2nd rounder on him. People falling in love with the return ability reminds me of Justin Gilbert.
I would imagine just about everyone would say that Adoree is a better prospect than Gilbert was coming out. I think Gilbert went 8th overall, and almost everyone has Jackson going in the 2nd round this year. That speaks volumes and is an awesome example of how absurd this draft is.
If Takk, Barnett, Davis, Ross, and Williams are all gone at 16, which is possible, I think we should definitely trade back a nice 7-10 spots. It would most likely mean getting the same quality of player, while getting an extra pick to grab somebody like Sidney Jones! Gotta do it.
I have a feeling Ozzie will seriously be looking at Foster and Cam if they're there at 16 as well.
This draft is going to make and/or kickstart multiple franchisesIts also possible that Woodhead could be in the mix as a returner.
agreed. I was thinking that when we signed him and kinda forgot about that

giving up pick 30, 31, or 32 for Fournette is not mortgaging the future
