Kind of puzzled why Butler was cut and the FO keeps clinging to Campanaro.

Butler was ok nothing special. Agree with you that we have to cut the cord with Michael "IR" Campanaro.

I think IR rules have been changing. I don't think it means he's out the whole year. If we can bring a fresh Camp in after half the year. he could be a weapon for us down the stretch. If thats not the case at all, my patience is wearing thin with the situation as well.

Ughhh can we just cut Hester already. Washed up and always injured. I'd be happier not fielding punts and taking them where they lay.

Wow, i wish yourself and some of the other pundits on here were in charge of special teams.....LOL. JEEZ. people are going to complain about moves no matter what I guess. Excellent signing Ozz

Baffling to me, is that Brooks was cut, when they could have retained Brooks, and just parted ways with injured Elam. If they were going to put him on IR anyways, then just cut him and give him an injury settlement. They already have opted to not take his 5th year option, so the writing was on the wall already.

What's baffling to me is that we didn't even get any value in return for anyone! Not even a 6th or 7th for Brooks. We just cut 5 or 6 very good players that other teams will now fight over. I'm shocked to say the least.

They wouldn't have been cut if they were "very good players". Period

  4. I would not have minded picking this guy up on the cheap, but this does not seem like a wise allocation of funds. The veteran free agent contracts in recent years are getting sloppy and every one of these costly moves (Pitta, Webb, Ngata, Evans, etc.) are really preventing the team from picking up every down players. How many snaps will Hester be on the field? 8 a game? Why are they wasting money there, when a quality LB or CB would play 30 snaps or more.

First of all, there is no wasting what so ever going on. We're most likely paying the best returner of all time 2 Mil a year. CMON MAN. Even if it's 3, who cares well worth it. The only way he's getting 4 is probably if he has 4 or 5 TDs or something, in which case he's way worth that. Second we are loaded at LB. We kept 7 corners, and it's not llike you can just go grab a good corner somewhere. Plus, listing Webb and Pitta in your reasoning does not work at all. They got injured. Nobody can predict that.
Most importantly, returner is a vital position. And before the signing it was by far the biggest ? on the team. Even with Camp around. Not only do we need somebody sure handed back there, but we need somebody that can swing field positions and make plays. And the front office, myself, and many others believe he is still very capable of doing that. Last time we were kicking butt in the return game, we won the Superbowl. Not to mention taking one back fo a TD in it that was the difference in the Ravens getting a ring that year. The return position is critical. I for one now know that when a kick is in the air, instead of cringing and being unsure about what's gonna happen, I'll be yelling "Hester Time Baby!!!" or something of that nature....haha

What was the corresponding roster move?

Better question is why give him a contract that could be worth up to 4 mil????

Up to 4 mill probably mean 2 Mill. I'm guessing he'll only make 4 if he fulfills some awesome incentives on the field. In case I say it's definitely worth it. Plus who cares about the cash for this year. We have some, why not use by upgrading the roster, as well as Huge ? at an important position.

I think there are 5 guys they wanted to keep. Reynolds, Pierce, Onaswor, Ochi, Nembot. Nembot has already been placed on IR. I expect one or two of the above guys to get IR'd. Ravens probably want to keep him on PS as a returner if Campanero gets injured and Dixon isn't all the way back. I think the Dixon injury gets him on the PS. I don't think other teams will covet him more than Ravens.

I don't think Dixon is going to be on the PS he's going to be on the roster and maybe start soon.

Agreed. get healthy. By far our best rb and rb of the future

  7. 5th rounders have really been golden for us over the last decade....My post draft picks to watch for were Judon, Henry, and Dixon, but it appears the entire draft class is one of the strongest we have had in years....

It does look amazing. Almost looks like KC and Kufasi are the biggest ?s to me. I'm with you on Dixon, Judon, and Henry. They're my favorites too. Lewis, Moore, Young look awesome too. Stanley might've been our smartest pick in years. We'll see soon

  8. one of the tougher predictions in years, so many talented young players, and IMO all could make some teams roster.....

Agreed. I think it's so much the case this year esp. cuz ususally I think a team has about 5 or 6 draft picks from that year that they have to consider keeping. This year we have 5 from the 4th round alone that we not only have to keep, but I think all 5 will contribute big time this year. Obviously to early to grade it overall, but it looks like we may have finally drafted really well again after whiffing for the past few years

We heard the same crap about Elam. Oh, he is so fast. He makes up for his lack of size with his athleticism. Then, when he bombed at free safety, all we read was how he was a "strong safety", not a free safety. Well, he was crap there too. What no more lame excuses? Now they finally get rid of him. Perriman is another Elam. I don't understand the Ravens. They are so desperate for a speed receiver that they draft a guy who had trouble catching the ball. News flash, if you don't catch the ball, it doesn't matter how fast you can run. Now he has been "injured" for two years. Knees too, so where is all that speed gonna go? Lets see on Thursday night. I am expecting another loud thud, followed by more lame excuses the next day. Am I psychic or what?

No, you're a troll, I can't help but laugh. He's another Elam...you're right?? lol And you say now he's been injured for 2 years..?!?!? hmmmm, that's interesting, I guess this is year 3 for Perriman. Guess he skipped the whole sophmore slump season all together, hahaha. And I'm sure you won't be cheering for him this year at when he's catching the ball 3 yards behind Mike Mitchell. You'll probably just be shouting, "He's another Elam!!!" It's pretty sad to read comments like yours. But I guess every organization has "those fans"

Butler is on 53 man roster for sure, especially with the injury to Dixon and Watson. The question comes between C. Moore and Campanaro. I think Campanao falls short because of the medical history.

Chris Moore a question? And if camp falls short who's returning punts?

    They are both locks bud.

I agree with you 100%. Moore was such a steal and he is on the team no matter what. I would also love to see him rerurn some punts. And if Camp is healthy which he seems to be, he is also on the team no matter what. I anticipate both of them being huge playmakers for the ravens this year with a ton of explosive plays as well as some huge chain moving grabs by Camp on third downs. This statement has nothing to do with Perriman's future. But I think Moore is going to turn into the type of player that we thought we were drafting in Perriman at pick #23? i believe. This 4th round looks so incredible to me right now.

And we wouldn't have a single decent punt returner if he's cut. If they only keep 6 WRs, Camp will make it over Butler b/c of Camp's PR skills.

I would love to see Butler or Aiken back there fielding punts. They obviously have the hand eye coordination and with 6 WR's the Ravens can afford to get more use from their WR core and still keep players fresh. Biggest skills necessary to do well as PR are good hands to cleanly catch the football and the ability to read blocks correctly. Speed and moves are helpful, but rarely translate to instant success. Most times you gotta follow your blocks through the first wave of defenders before making a guy miss can spring you for big returns. Heck if Perriman can remain healthy I'd even give him some reps to see what he can do. A PR specialist is no longer the strategy the Ravens are going for by the sounds of it. They are looking for someone that can handle PR in addition to their pther role(s).

what about Moore returning some punts?

Looking at the Roster today-I think all 1st and 2nd depth chart players make the team as shown :
Offense carries 26- 7 WR includes Moore, Butler and Camp as PR/KR
    ( Mathews to waivers-PS) 1 FB J, 3-RB Forsett, Allen, West , 3 TE- Pitta, Gilmore, Willaims.
Defense carries 24- Brooks moves into Elam's spot. 3rd team add Judon and Levine
    1 P, 1 K, 1 LS.

We still need to consider a Cornerback. look for one to be stashed on the PS.
    Man 53 goes fast.....! Comments??

How about the rookie back Dixon? Are you saying he is released or what?

    IR...I think

But, that is today. He will battle for the 3rd spot if he can get back before game 1, but Its going to be tough. That is probably the toughest decision on the squad. Does he beat out Campanaro? Butler? Moore? West? Allen? Actually he probably takes Forsetts job next year!
I would say he takes any one of those spots if there is a crisis. Do the Ravens gamble and let anyone of them out on Waivers?? Or do they try to slide another player through to the PS....

No, just stop. Dixon has been the best back all camp and preseason. We are not going to "stash him on the IR." When he comes back from injury he's sure to be our starter. Forsett is washed up, and can't hit holes for crap.

Dixon is definitely our best back. If West keeps his behind in shape and once Dixon is back, I think the time split between the 3 should be Dixon-60% West-20% Forsett-20% . That should keep everyone frsh too. Buck is not very good at all. I hope he doesn't take up any carries this year unless it's a blow out

  13. I think he's right on the bubble but I think he probably will make it though. But that would mean we're keeping 7 wrs. Cuz there's no way we don't keep Camp,SSS,Aiken,Moore,Wallace, and Perriman. Looks like Aiken, Butler, and Moore will be playing some special teams. That'll probably toughen Moore up a little bit. I really hope Moore gets some punt return oppportunities as well.
Butler has played very well in the preseason. I agree with everyone. I think people are overeacting to preseason on a few topics though, but that's inevitable. But besides his good play so far and upside, I think there's one main reason why he makes the team. We really don't have any other big bodied wrs that can go up and make contested catches. And we really don't even know if he can yet in regular season games yet. But he's a different type of reciever than all of our other wrs. The things I just can't stop thinking this preseason are Flacco has WEAPONS. The Weddle addition is incredible. Though, they're rookies, Lewis and Stanley are looking like a sweet combo on the left side of the line for years to come. And what a 4th round!!! Judon and Dixon might be my favorites of the whole draft class!

  14. i know they are anxious to see him in a live game, but i cannot see the 4th preseason game is worth the risk playing him with a bunch of hacks on the field. he has not been able to stay healthy. i would rather hold him out until buffalo and see what he can do once the regular season starts. if he goes down with a strained hammy running against the 3rd team defense in a meaningless game, heads are going to roll.

I AGREE 100%. esp vs guys that are just trying to make huge hits and anything they can just to make a team

  15. well we the fans are worried because crockett is inconsistant and max williams is more brittle than tony romo, and every one else is suspended bcause theyd rather take peds then earn it the hard way in the gym. RIP ben watson season

well said. im not worried cuz we have a few good t.e.s, but I agree with your points. Watson was going to be our one Mr. Constistency and my reliable at TE. Now we have a lot of upside and ?s there
