  1. The only other absolute possibility if it isn't Sherman, it has to be Mangold. He doesn't count against the comp pick formula as he was cut. So it could be Mangold becoming a Raven sooner that we know. Man that would be nice!

I have a feeling a lot of us will see the signing when we wake up. Well, at least those of us on the west coast lol
I think it'd be a great signing. I bet he has a year or two left in him. Especially after getting on an awesome team for the first time in his intense career.
It would give us SO much more flexibility in the draft

    Don't think that's a requirement at all.

Perfect comp for me is Arthur Jones. Interior pass rusher in a 3-4, wasn't healthy for a full season at really any point during his time in Baltimore (Jernigan's actually been healthier), and is a 5-6 sack per season kind of guy.

When he signed his deal in 2014, it was a top 10 DT contract in terms of AAV. A top 10 DT contract in next years market is at least $10M a year.

Has every bit the production as a Brockers or a Liuget, with pretty close to as much durability.

If Jernigan plays in 2017 exactly how he has the last 1-2 years, he's getting a big contract from the Eagles.

I said that cuz that was the first line of what I responded to....lol

So the Ravens traded a former second-rounder, the only productive interior pass-rusher, one of the few guys with attitude, in his contract year, in order to save $1M and move up 24 spots in the third round? I don't get it. This doesn't help the team win in 2017, which had better happen or Harbs and maybe even Ozzie will be gone.

For the $1M, you can't sign a player even half as productive. If they were worried about re-signing him next year, let another team overpay and receive a probable 3rd round comp pick.  Eagles got a good deal here.

People keep throwing this 3rd round comp pick idea around to support their argument but it's flawed because there's no guarantee of us getting it.

but we would have gotten at least a 5rd pick your not going to tell me he's not going to get close to guys contract cause he will

I would rather move up from 99 to 74 in This ridiculous draft, than even getting an extra 5th and 6th next draft. Easily. Even accounting for how poor we've done at the top of drafts lately- with these 4 top picks, I'm expecting at least 2 of them to turn into pro bowlers. With the other 2 not being far behind.
I also have a feeling Takk, Barnett, Corey Davis, or Mike Williams will slip right into our lap at 16.
Time to turns things around for years to come in 3 weeks

Super funny how everyone's saying we would've got a 3rd round comp pick for Timmy. He's been overrated his whole Ravens career. He's not even close to sniffing the pro bowl. He basically makes as many bone headed penalties after the whistle each year as he does sacks. Great trade

If a team liked him enough to swap a high third round pick for a late 3rd round comp, then a team wouldve been willing to give him a high enough contract to get a 4th rounder.I actually wouldn't put it past a team paying him enough to get us a 3rd after seeing Ricky and Juice become the highest paid players at their positions last month.

He still has to stay healthy for a whole year and play at a high level. That combination is Far from a sure thing

I seriously doubt either is making this deal thinking "gee I better win in 2017 or I'll be gone". Not that it really matters if they're gone or not, because no new GM or coach is going to come in here and make resigning Jernigan a top priority. He was gone after this season regardless of who's running the show.

You're right that it doesn't help the team win in 2017, but it was never about 2017 to begin with.

I think it helps the team win this year and in the future

Yeah, highly doubt it's even a 4th Rounder. Comp picks are based on the salaries of the free agents (plus a few other small factors). Jernigan would have to have one of the top 5 biggest contracts of the off-season to qualify for a 3rd. That means he would have to sign a deal more than Cousins, Bradford, Alshon Jeffery, Kam Chancellor, Terrelle Pryor, Mike Wallace, Edelman, Lacy, etc, etc.

I bet the Eagles don't get much except a 5th or 6th round comp pick, if at all.

Well he's going to at least fetch a contract at the value of Brandon Williams, since he's a pass rushing interior lineman. That will probably land him a 4th round comp pick, but that all depends on the size of the bigger contracts next offseason.

Would expect the Eagles to sign him to a long term extension if they are trading for him, so they won't get a comp pick at all.

I'd be really surprised if he lands a BWill contract. He won't right now. Plus he still has to ball out and stay healthy for 16 games

I think all of us know we're going after a pass rusher with one of our first 2 picks. I wasn't a big fan at first, but now I'm really liking the idea of putting Takk opposite Sizzle if we go pass rusher at 16. I think he can stop the run too. Could be the last missing piece to the top D in the league. I know we need to fill Orr's spot. Not worried about that what so ever. Orr was undrafted and looked like a star in the middle of our D. Not worried about filling that ILB spot. We have a couple in house candidates, the whole draft, and cuts still. Pierce, Urban, Kufasi, Henry, and Davis will easily outproduce Timmy's spot and past. And know plenty of yall doubt that, just wait. Top D coming up. Our fans still have no idea about the effect that Tony is gonna have on our whole D

your crazy if you think Urban, Kufasi, Henry, and Davis are worth their weight in aluminum there is no evidence of any of these guys even coming close to a starting caliber DL and i pray that we don't go pass rusher in the first barrnett out of tenn is the only one worthy of the 16th overall pick and i doubt he will be there and to draft a OLB early would mean that Judon wouldn't see that much playing time and personally i think he's better than almost all the OLB in this years draft

Personally I want to see Pierce in as much as possible, and I want to see what Henry and Davis are made of.
I think Barnett or Takk at 16 would be awesome.
I also think we're praying Mike Williams or Corey Davis fall to 16. Which is possible.

You failed to remember or mention has he still has to ball out for a full season for any of that to even be a possibility......

Timmy was always overrated. Not to mention his bonehead penalties.
Why on earth would you assume we would get a 3rd round pick for him? Those picks are after the 3rd is over too. He's not a pro bowl caliber player or even close to it for that matter.
Moving up 24 spots in This draft is GOLD. It will help us win now, and in the future. Both. This is the best draft I've ever seen. Especially in terms of first round talent lasting to about the 3rd round. It does drop off at a certain point though, so that jump from 99 to 74 is way bigger than it seems initially. Picking at 74 in this draft is like picking at 44 in any other draft imo. Not that it says as much as it should, considering Timmy was by far our best 2nd rounder since KO, but I would bet anything that our pick #74 in this draft, will have a much, much better career with the Ravens than all of our 2nd round picks since KO.
It's not about the money this year. Though that money can go towards Mangold who's visiting today

We need a rookie center Mangold will be another Zuttah! Hurt all the time etc! Smh

I'm all for Elfein, but after that there's no Guarantee a Rookie Center can come in and play at a high level right away. Especially with Lewis right next to him, who's basically a rookie as well.
Mangold..........hurt all the time. 11 years in the league, 7 pro bowls. 2 all pros....only 12 games missed over that whole time. 11 years. He is not another Zuttah by any means

  12. Jernigan was nothing special, but he's definitely better than these other guys they keep mentioning. Davis, Henry, Kaufusi and Urban, are you kidding me. All these guys together have done nothing. They already lost their best DE, in Guy. Orr is gone. Suggs is hanging on. Judon and Smith. Really? Correa? Sheesh. You could have six All Pros in the secondary, and they still won't be able to cover everyone for six seconds. This defense has not improved. The offense is a disaster. But, hey, everyone keep drinking the purple Kool Aid.

The defense has not improved??????LOL, Really?

Well, can't sign anyone now until after May 19th without losing a comp pick, but the $1M from the Jernigan trade would cover a vet minimum deal for Mangold.

people get way to caught up with the comp picks. If the Ravens think Mangold is a Center that can play at a high level for us for a year or two, they should sign him today

  14. What gets lost in all of this is another high round pick of OZ that , for whatever reason, did not make it pass rookie contract or failed to live up to expectations. Elam, Kruger, Oher, Kindle, Cody, Travis Taylor, Upshaw, KO, Torrey, A Brown, M Clayton (who he drafted with A Rod on the board and Kyle Boller as the QB).

There were a lot of key free agents (Boldin, Pollard, Leach, McCrary, Adams, Sharp, Woodson, Birk, McKinney, etc...) on the Ravens 2 super bowl teams. OZ does a really good job, if not the best job, at filling the pieces within a budget and drafting value in mid-late rounds. Drafting skill positions which is what the Ravens always seems to lack, not so much, at least not in the last 8 years.

Until I see consistent drafts at those positions, I am not that excited about number of picks or where we pick. It's hard to image with the depth of talent in this draft that the Ravens somehow miss on any player in the top 3 rounds, but lately, missing on at least one player in rounds 1-3 has been routine.

For the fans that will argue that's every NFL team, fair enough, but stop the blind Wizard of OZ and in OZ we trust rhetoric no matter what he fails to do.

We've been missing on a lot of high picks lately. No doubt. Doesn't dismiss how stoked I am about this draft. And the picks we have. It'll be hard to screw this one up.
I'm not exaggerating at when I say this. We just moved up from 99 to 74. I feel like pick 74 in this draft, holds the talent of about pick 44 in a normal draft.
Believe me, I was one of the biggest voices over the past month or two when it comes to being unhappy about how badly we've been missing on high picks over the past several years. We're DUE. lol.
We should be able to go BPA, while filling needs in this draft. While bringing in a couple cornerstones as well.
The FO scares the crap out of me on draft day, especially in the second round, but that won't damper my excitement this year!
Jefferson and Carr are HUGE adds. Keeping BWill too obviously.
And Frankly I think the rotation that'll take Timmy's place will outproduce Timmy for sure.
    Mangold is visiting today too

  15. We might have to move up with one of them to make this happen, but how amazing would it be if we added these 4 guys to our team with our first 4 picks-

    Derek Barnett
    Ju Ju Smith-Schuster
    D'onta Foreman
    Pat Elfein

I would be stoked with Sidney Jones in place of Foreman as well.

After the FA we just had, if we hit this draft on the head, which I think we will, we really have a chance to jump right back on top of the division. To say the least.

Man l'll will be pumped up if our draft was like this. I also wouldn't mind having Derek Barnett in the first, Juju Smith in the second, Elflien in the third (if he makes it) and Sidney Jones in the third as well. That would be a dream draft. 👍

What you just said sounds like mine too
