Webb isn't any good. I don't know why Ozzie ever gave this guy a long term deal.

Umm, Jimmy Smith is an average corner.

Has Jimmy ever really played well? Played well with any consistency? Spoiler alert: the answer is "no"
I really hope we can end the Ladarius Webb experiment soon.
Nice job Smith and Webb.

The Raiders are the best team we played so far and their defense isn't really good (ranked 31st). We lost the game. So, I'd say we won't fare very well. Washington is ranked 28th in total defense and we have what, 10 points?

Secondary has improved plenty but I feel like there is some missing element to it.
1.) This defense needs to presence of a shut down CB to give help to Shareece Wright in red-zone or scoring plays, oh yeah, which brings me too....
2.) Shareece Wrights plays decent to solid coverage, until scoring plays or in the redzone. He breaks down there and he just seems to forget everything.
3.) Jimmy Smith is improving week-by-week as I predicted. He was solid in the Jaguars game, but the game against Oakland was his best of the season. Jimmy Smith tends to improve later on down the season, so I think we could get someone close to the old Jimmy Smith we're used to seeing.
4.) Obviously Weddle has had a significant impact on this team and has been our best FA signing so far.
5.) Would like to see turnovers among the secondary. Weddle and Young got an INT, but its good to have QBs think twice before throwing it to opposing CBs.
A much improved secondary, but I still feel like there's more to be desired. We need better FS play from Webb, we need Jimmy to return to form, we either need to decide to bench Wright or keep him and add safety help(Which I don't agree with), or we need to have someone emerge at CB.
What do you guys think about the secondary so far? What more would you like to see?
There is a history here. The poor secondary has been years in the making:
1. Reed retires - he is an HOF player
2. We sign Dominique Foxworth and pay him big $$. A huge mistake by Ozzie - the guy could never play.
3. We draft Matt Elam. Another big mistake by Ozzie.
4. Ladarius Webb a.k.a. Dominique Foxworth part II. Another huge mistake by Ozzie. They give this bum a nice contract. He hasn't done squat. He is a joke and on his way out the door,
5. We swap parts at CB opposite Jimmy Smith (who is solid, not spectacular) using other teams trash and castoffs. As if putting on a Ravens jersey is going to make them good.
The shine wore off this defense a long time ago. The players that made this team great are long gone. The secondary is a mess. Weddle was a good signing but what he can do remains to be seen over the next 12 games.
Our GM was great in the day, but if we're honest he has had a lot - a lot of misses over the past few years.

I agree. Joe has 4 TDs, 4 picks, and a QB rating that puts him in the company of Brock Osweiler and Blake Bortles. He needs to take ownership of his results whether that is changing calls at the line, whatever. He is making too much $$ for the type of results we're seeing. He's better than this - he has to be.

I'm sure come Sunday the stats will be vividly clear how bad Flacco is. Oakland like Redskins are terrible when it comes to getting QB. Flacco make it very easy for any defense to tee off of him. Why? 1) Zero pocket awareness
2) inability to check the field other than eyeing on 1target
3) Zero ability to build rapport with younger younger receivers(how many times have you seen flacco come up big other than SSS/pitta at pressure time? The whole defense already know where the ball is going come clutch time)
4) zero ability to read defensive scheme
5) horribly inconsistent throws(A LA the underthrow/overthrow king)
yet you would have an excuse why blame should be put on everyone but Flacco.
Looking at the stat, Flacco stands pretty clear he is one of the worst QB in the league right now. Right there with the rest of the losers @'worst 5'.
I agree with you. I'm a new poster but have been a fan and ticket holder since game #1 in 1996. Joe has family close by and an army of supporters in the area. Make your way outside the Maryland Delaware area though and talk football - people don't think much of Flacco. Now I love the Ravens always have always will. They haven't had many good quarterbacks. Flacco is average and that was enough back in the day. But now he is being paid to be the man and carry the team. He isn't good enough for that. If he doesn't pick up his level of play soon (I hope he does) he won't be around long at this price. There are many areas of need on this team.

Question: Is Flacco allowed to change plays at the line? I know the selection would be limited based on the personnel they have in at the moment, but at times I wonder if Joe makes changes to plays called if he doesn't like what he sees or doesn't like what is called.
2 minutes ago, Red723 said:Well, we see now that the Ravens are indeed the worst 3-0 team. Not the real deal. If you're struggling like this against oakland, how will we do against ne, pitt, cincy, philly? Even the skins or giants could beat us.
Yes I agree. We struggled to beat 3 bad teams - now things are looking dicey. Hope we can pick things up in the second half.

Wow, I couldn't agree more. Very happy we won, but man if not for that "penalty" we are probably 1-1. I'm still not sure (after all these years) what to make of Webb. He had that one nice run a few years ago and is still living off of it.
