You're right. Just projecting my frustration about lack of offensive line
Just now, jazz1988 said:Wagner was still good right tackle and is now the highest paid right tackle in the league at that. I also do not agree with you that Juice couldn't block. I don't think he was at Vonta Leach level but I don't think he was terrible at it or couldn't block at all. There's still some good offensive linemen available and some of the tackles may not be good at pass blocking right now but I see some pretty good right tackles left on the board that could help with running game right now if they had to start.
That's a problem.
We have three holes. I'm not convinced Alex Lewis is a solution. And we've done nothing. We lost Wagner and fired Zuttah and we've done nothing to address that, so the solution is throw a 4 or 5 at an OL and hope they turn out? How do we know we'll get a Wagner and not a Jah Reid or Ramon Harewood? I'm tired of ignoring of the offense. We lost guys and brought nobody in. We're not even back to where we were. How are we supposed to get better?
Not a bad pick in and of itself but dammit don't we have enough DL?
My new advice to Marty?
Dude, just quit. Your boss doesn't care about offense.

Let's not forget that Ricky Wagner and Kyle Hugecheck were not drafted in the first three rounds of the draft.
Wagner was a liability in the run game and Kyle Juice was a fullback who couldn't block. This offense needs some big investments, not mediocre late rounders.
Favorite pick so far. This to me is the first pick we've made where we'll see a big year one impact. The other three, not so much.

Then we moved him to ILB for reasons still beyond me, and kept him there when he predictably struggled, and finally showed a little something when he went back outside.
Hope this is not deja vu.
I'm having a major case of deja vu. The scouting reports are pretty similar.
Somewhere, Joe Flacco is crying in a corner with Yanda and Pitta, asking if Ozzie will ever invest in the offense again.

our FO is declining big time.
Who are you again?

Oj and famous jameis will make quite a few gms feel very stupid
I'd guarantee it.

I actually felt like Humphrey was the pick all the way in February because the Ravens raved about him at the Senior Bowl.
Corner? Alabama? First round talent? All the stars aligned.
In hindsight, I have no idea how more people didn't predict it
Hoping for a pass rusher and two olinemen in the next three. I'm really hoping for that guy Pat Elflein. Don't think we could pull him and Lamp, but that'd be my pipe dream.
16 minutes ago, BmoreBird22 said:I love how people talk about him not turning his head as if it's not coachable.
That's a very rare quality for young corners to have. It's very learned.
Not to mention it's a bit difficult to look for the ball when in press. In zone, his ball skills are on point.
Okay, I watched Marlon Humphrey vs USC, Humphrey vs Texas A&M and Humphrey against Clemson. I LOVE the pick. The past couple months of work kept me away from the pre-draft scouting but my schedule is opening up again, so I'm gonna be taking a look at our guys.
The first things that jumped out to me were his energy and physicality. He plays fast and he plays through the whistle. He knocks guys out if they touch the ball. If you run a screen on him, he shuts that Crap down. He erases the short routes. He doesn't give people easy completions. I think that in the NFL his footwork may make him liable to a couple blown coverages on deep balls but he'll work on it.
In the run game, he is willing to get into traffic. Frequently in the Clemson game he made an effort to engage a tackle. Not many corners are willing to take on a block from a lineman. If he's got an angle on the back, he brings the wood. He really tries to fight off blocks, and if it's a WR, he usually wins.
He's built thick for a corner. That 6'0, 200 build, I think, is ideal for a corner. Long but not so long you have slow foot speed.
The talk of him being stiff hipped I can see, but I think it's exaggerated. He's pretty fluid for a longer corner. It's the footwork that I think is the problem, and you see that around 3:05 against A&M. He played the slot most in the Clemson game, and to be honest, I think he can fit in there. I didn't see any glaring issues with him in the slot.
And whoever thinks he doesn't have ball skills needs to check out 2:30 against Texas A&M. He's got em. I just think he needs to get better at turning his head. He may not have the best ball skills but this guy is going to force a lot of incompletions, a lot of sacks, and a lot of punts. He's a good cover corner.
Another thing: he's a tone setter. Our defense lacks that right now in my opinion. I'm really loving this pick.
2 minutes ago, BmoreBird22 said:I think Humphrey can play off man. He's got to clean up his footwork and plant and drive a little bit and stop opening his hips so quickly, but he's got excellent route recognition to understand what's going to be coming. He actually masks some of the plant and drive issues by being so smart to understand what the receiver wants to do.
Prototypical press corner. Excellent length and speed to press and recover if beaten.
He's going to excel in zones where he doesn't have to turn his head too much early. Let him see the play develop, digest the route, and use his length to disrupt the play.
I expect a lot of Tampa 2 and Cover 3 this year with press being the primary look being shown on the outside. The Tampa 2 requires excellent tackling corners and you now have three in Jimmy, Young, and one that can hit like a truck in Humphrey.
Okay, yeah, that does sound like fitting like a glove.
This pick, paired with the Carr signing, sets a clear vision to me: gone are the days of the 15 yard cushion. Regardless of the shell, it looks clearly like we're playing at the line and shutting down those easy dump offs the Patriots have killed us with time and time again.
43 minutes ago, BmoreBird22 said:I am beyond excited. Humphrey fits like a glove in this defense. I have so much hope that he'll be an excellent pro for so many years to come.
I called this one.
What do you like about him?
I think it's a great pick overall, but I actually have some questions about how and where he fits. From what I've read, it seems he's a press guy who struggles in off man. I've heard he's not good on the inside. Which makes me wonder where he'll fit. Will Carr slide in? Or will we see if Marlon can do that?
And, is Pees going to commit to a press-heavy coverage philosophy? Last year, it was all about off man and break on the ball. Jimmy's not the bets fit for that type of approach, and if Marlon is a Jimmy-clone as I've read, I wonder how the scheme will adjust. Hopefully it's a lot of bump and run or press bail. From the little I've seen and read, it seems Marlon was born for press bail.
1 minute ago, BmoreBird22 said:He's got plenty fluid hips. Actually did really well in the three cone for what you'd expect. He just flips his hips too early to give himself a cushion to protect against the deep ball.
Yeha, 6.75 3 cone doesn't sound stiff at all. that's a damn good number
Just now, goldenboldin said:he's not punishing CB's at the line if he's not starting right away, and working more special teams than anything else. He'll be punishing gatorade on the sidelines if that's the case
Think big picture. Think long term. I know it's hard for you but please try

5 minutes ago, BmoreBird22 said:People are pissed because they heard he has stiff hips and ate it up like a buffet.
I mean damn they said the same thing about Jimmy, and injuries aside, Jimmy is phenomenal. I'm not pressed.

1 minute ago, atomicfront said:I was fine until Harbaugh started talking about what a great special teams player he was and how he didn't need to play right away and his performance would determine whether he plays or not. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy about the pick.
Sorry, that's reality. Fans don't like hearing it but that's life. Do you honestly expect Harbs to say he's starting day one regardless?
I'm just stoked we've added yet another solid press CB to punish WRs at the line.
1 minute ago, Ravensfolyfe said:I dunno about Harb's anymore
Since when is Harbs in charge of the draft? He's not. Get some help.
Has it occurred to anyone that this guy might actually be a good addition or is everyone just pissed that they weren't original enough to pick him in their mock? I can't help but think people are just pissed because nobody saw it coming.
