  1. Same reason I read him. His understanding of defenses is infinitely more complex than mine.
  2. To me, PFF's analysis of OL play is consistently more accurate than Filmstudy, but I think that's more so because of the grading systems, not the evaluation.
  3. That's fair, and I think that's just the nature of the beast with sports analysis. It's primarily subjective. Bower is probably too simplistic to really be divisive. Dev is just up and down because, well, it's analysis, not fact.
  4. To be honest, I like Dev and Bower more than Film Study. Their analyses are typically more on point, to me, than Film Study's. Granted, I don't read them religiously, because I spend my free time reading about other topics and trolling message boards.
  5. Hmm. Chemistry. I see little on the left side of the offensive line, due to the constant rotation there. That's problematic due to our scheme requiring linemen to be perfectly in unison. I see some chemistry between Joe and some receivers. He's got good chemistry with Perriman and Chris Moore. He hits them in stride frequently and just seems to have a good connection, if they could hold on to the ball dammit. Joe and Kamar definitely have chemistry, but Kamar is, well, physically limited. On defense, we had brilliant chemistry on the back end, until the injuries started piling up. Injuries are just killing whatever chemistry we started this season with.
  6. I definitely wouldn't say he's the most overhyped Ravens rookie of all time. That might be Matt Elam or Torrey Smith, perhaps Courtney Upshaw. Michael Oher definitely comes to mind in the discussion of most overhyped Ravem/ Willie Henry has boat loads of potential. I have rarely seen his combination of size, strength, and speed. Same with Kaufusi. They're both athletic freaks. I think their struggles are two fold: 1. They succeeded on college on their athleticism alone, so their technique is lazy. 2. They may not be put in a position to succeed. Both are penetrating types. Willie Henry reminds me of Aaron Donald -- not in ability but in play style. Same with Kaufusi and JJ Watt. They are disruptors, but the defensive coordinator seems to prefer cloggers, which is outdated to me. Kaufusi, I don't know. He's too old I think to really be effective for us in the long term. But Henry, once he learns how to use his hands, it is game over. If he and Jernigam realize their potential, we could have two dominant interior pass rushers.
  7. Yeah, it would be nice. It would also be nice to win the lottery. Hey, why don't we go get Rashaan Melvin back? I mean, he had size! Sure, he tripped over himself, had no recovery time, no agility at all, and was completely lost in man or deep zone coverage, but at least he was tall.
  8. Lmao as if there's a plethora of corners taller than 5'10. Since apparently you missed the boat, 6'0+ corners that are good are like unicorns. And most 6'0 corners are safeties that are confused.
  9. Like two losing seasons and a .500 season in four years? Because that's what we're on track for. Just saying.
  10. I didn't say it would affect your job. I just said it would make you look like a tool. And since apparently you're not as good at critical thinking as you think you are, I'll spell it out for you.... Poor team performance + bad public image = fired. Do you think Billick was fired just because of a bad, injury plagued season? I think his image had at least a little to do with it, too. That Dolphins loss hurt the image. Image matters to the guy that signs the checks, probably more so in a year where ratings are down. Belichick and Jim get away with it because they win. Once you stop winning, it's harder to be smug and cocky. Also, Steve is pretty good with reporters, other than with the Rice fiasco. He was being flippant out of frustration or to dissuade reporters from pursuing the story further. It's an old PR tactic. If you make the mean reporter feel bad, he'll go away. But that's not how it ended up, is it?
  11. You have an infantile understanding of how the press works, but maybe I'm biased because I am the press. Again, I have to tell you I appreciate your analysis and insight into the game, but sometimes, you come off as peevish and perverse. Worse than me, and that's saying something. Oh, you'd smugly and condescendingly stare at the reporter... We're all impressed and quite terrified. As a reporter, I'm here to tell you that we'd laugh at you and say that you aggressively avoided the question, which doesn't look good for PR when you have a losing record. It would make you look a little like that guy Jim Harbaugh, who was derided as insane by many, including his own fans. And by the way, when reporters asked John that questioned about the run game, he gave an honest answer. Maybe you could learn from him and have some humility. And if you point in the direction of the Jets game, that's fine. That's why reporters ask the question, to get an answer, you brainless blowhard.
  12. Yup. If you can't stop a team's running game, you can't stop them at all.
  13. All I know is that Kyle Shanahan is killing it in Atlanta right now, and he had a solid offense last year, too. Boy oh boy, if we had that guy.
  14. If it's so simple, why doesn't everyone do it? If it's so simple and so clearly the right answer, why aren't you in the NFL, where other great defensive minds are forgetting this simple key to success?
  15. If only it was that simple.
  16. Yeah, I'm agreeing with this. Carl Davis could have borderline Ndamakong Suh potential if he actually gave a damn. He's got size, natural strength, athleticism, and natural talent, but he's letting it all slip. He has all of the tools and he does nothing with it.
  17. Wouldn't know it from the completely anemic pressure he gets. Those five sacks are probably the only five times he even sniffed a QB this year
  18. It's amusing that you bring this up, because that question was asked in the Monday presser and the postgame presser. It's like you make a concerted effort to be uninformed and ignorant of reality.
  19. I agree for the most part, but for his cap hit, I'd like a little more regular pressure. Regular pressure has a bigger impact than a couple of coverage sacks, ya know?
  20. Actually Kruger continued to be effective with the Browns, recording 9 and 11 sack seasons on one of the worst rosters in the NFL. Jonesy probably would've done better here than there. Same with Torrey. I fully realize that they were overpaid but the thing is that I'd rather have Kruger and his contract than Dumervil and his, at the moment. Yeah, but outside of those five (coverage) sacks he produced little to no pressure at all and lacked any kind of speed. Those sacks look good on the stat sheet but he wasn't passing my eye test. If you actually watched him he was slow as molasses and ineffective. All of his sacks were coverage sacks that came five seconds or later after the snap.
  21. No, but I was a 5'7 190 pound guy that had never played a game at oline in my life and then had to block dudes that were 6'3 250 at least. I had played defense the first three years of my high school career and then all of a sudden ended up playing guard as a senior. So yeah, I guess I was "a young lineman thrown into the fire outside of the position he has trained for." I was playing guys at my level. Alex Lewis is playing guys at his level. And like I said anyway, that play wasn't holding. One more thing: Technical mistakes aren't about the guys he's playing against. Technique is about you and you.
  22. I did play offensive line and I'm here to tell you that it's pretty simple to not hold. Holding isn't some mental mistake. It's a technical mistake. You only hold when your footwork sucks or your hand use sucks. For the record, I was never flagged for holding. False start, once, I'll admit, but never holding and never hands to the face, because my technique was on point. Edited: Let me add that the holding call on Alex Lewis was complete BS. Sure, his left hand was outside the shoulder pads (there's that technique thing again), but Alex was driving him inside pretty strongly. That's just a crap call tbh. That's one of those times where piss poor technique gets you a penalty. Even though it wasn't holding, it looked like it was because of his hand placement. Refs don't call holding if the hands are inside the pads.
  23. No, it's simple. Don't flipping hold.
  24. Kinda my point. Didn't develop well here, and we didn't retain him. That's a third round pick that we didn't retain. If he played better sooner, we don't have to pick Rick Wagner or Alex Lewis where we did
