  1. Maybe the effects of Elam returning to the roster. Competition always amps up the competitive nature of players.
  2. Someone staple this memo to Ozzie's desk so he can correct his WR drafting strategies. It would be nice if he could draft a true WR #1 at least once before he leaves his post.
  3. Been mentioning this exact point. Too bad the coaches aren't seeing this same matter or listening. It's called helping your offensive line out and not hanging them to dry. It's not like it requires brain surgery to adjust. Who knows maybe they want the top 10 pick next spring?..
  4. This really is not Pees decision. When players are drafted it is due to Oz and Eric and their team of scouts projecting a player to be a good fit in (a) certain role(s). Why anyone would think a rookie coming to the pro's can adjust to the pros and learn a new position without missing a beat is beyond me. How about some setting some reasonable expectations for young players. It takes at last a full season to learn a new position to the point where a player can play full speed and not second guess themselves. More important than pass rush though is the secondary. The evidence is clear when J Smith left the game, the chances of winning the game went out the window as well. Pass rush and secondary work hand in hand. You do not need a sack every play. You do need to pressure the QB almost every pass play. If your not at least getting close to making him uncomfortable it should be considered a fail and go back to the drawing board. My real question is what will Pees do when he faces a team with more than 1 stout WR? Especially if J Smith cannot be on the field?
  5. Time to stop bringing up injuries as a reason for not winning. Yes, we all know they contribute, but they are not the reason, even by a long shot. Harbs, stop talking forever in your press conferences. You go on for so long it feels like your dragging your team through the dirt explaining yourself to the media. Address the point and move on and don't look back. I'm not Pats fan, but Bill at least knows when to not say much or anything. What is to gain by venting to the media? Your team is the audience that needs to your your real thoughts. Again stop talking injuries and don't use them as excuses. Why give so much time to matters you cannot control? You also inadvertently put a lot of extra pressure on injured players when you keep saying there close to being back and well see, day after day after day. Either they are ready to go or they aren't. All this does is work your fans into a frenzy and get your players thinking they gotta do whatever it takes to get back out there and rush things. That has not worked out so well as many injured players come back only to be banged up or re-injured not long after. Plus for the players currently filling in for injured players, what are they to think when your more focused on getting the injured players back rather than working with what you have. Really seems like they are being under valued by these kind of sentiments. I really feel like your spilling way too much in your press conferences, but that's my opinion. Do what you like it's your job to keep.
  6. Way to go Pitta. Stay in Flacco's ear until he steps up his game. Banged up or not, if he's out there he better be ballin' out. No more excuse for missing wide open recievers.
  7. Okay. Who else thought on first glance that the image for this article made Suggs look like stumpy? Just the angle of his bent arm and his white glove and jersey make his arm disappear.
  8. The upside is to turn up the heat on Flacco to perform now. He needs a kick start to get going apparently.
  9. Yes forget to address the issues that are preventing them finishing the drives as if they don't exist or contribute to the issue. Who wouldn't rather a 2nd and 20 over a 1st and 10 and nothing like having to dig yourself out of a long distance to go for a first down to get the offenses excitement and confidence up and going..
  10. Yeah. It was no surprise Ryan Jensen plays well in run blocking aka road paving. He has always excelled in this area of his game.
  11. Yup Flacco needs to step it up. Either he is healthy enough to be out there playing or step aside until you are. No excuses for poor play. You are not being paid to be average. Where is the grit and determination since the super bowl season? Don't see enough determination out Joe yet this season. Command the offense, instead of run it. He is a seasoned vet and looks rattled too often.
  12. Yes the avoidable penalties are the concern and there is many. Holding penalties are gonna happen game to game, just depends on the refs. Still don't get sloppy, use technique. But cannot have false starts, illegal formation or delay of game penalties. Seems telling of players not being sure, so work on being sure minded for game day.
  13. Again not taking the near automatic guaranteed points when they were there, contributes to loss. In a game where your team is not carrying the momentum and to suddenly swing things in your favor only to walk away empty handed is unacceptable. Don't give us your aggressive play calling talk coach. It's called being wise and not making the poor decision. It literally killed any excitement or momentum your team had created. All this aggressive talk and execution taking place early in games only contributes to being forced to take those aggressive shots late in the game when you don't necessarily want to given a situation. If the Ravens want to win games again this year it starts with three things: 1. Clean up the garbage penalties. How many games need to be lost due to excessive penalties either stalling drives or giving opponents extra shots to score points. Make the players run laps or whatever. Yes they will complain and then you tell them it stops when the penalties stop, wouldn't hurt to get some extra conditioning either. 2. Take the points every way you can get them. You not wining enough of those gambles to justify calling them anymore and you are not scaring opponents by going for it and not even gaining field position for taking the risk. Sure seems like gambling the farm for nothing. 3. All WR, TE, RB taking at least 50 reps from the jugs machine daily. No excuses for dropping the easily catch-able balls. Watch the ball into your hands, and ignore the guy coming to hit you. Would you rather get hit and make the catch or get hit and drop the ball? If your gonna make a guy miss, then you'll make his miss. Catch the ball first. With all those losses being by slim margins, it is absolutely crazy this has yet to be addressed once and for all.
  14. Taking more deep shots does not mean every play, just more sprinkled into the play calling in general. Really the intermediate routes are the ones they need to start connecting on more. Throwing short of the yard sticks is just demoralizing when you make the catch and not the first down. Might as well just run the ball at that point. The odd screen pass or what ever is fine but before It was several plays of short passes shy of a first down. How does that help get anyone excited on offense or put up points.
  15. It's all good. Just list everyone as questionable, doubtful, etc. Then all us fans can be pleasantly surprised when more players take the field than the report suggests.
  16. Yep, Jensen is a road paving type G. Partly why the run game was able to get going last week, I am certain.
  17. The way I see it the Ravens have been getting by around .500 with very little offense. If they can get a gelled unit, which is not asking a whole lot, they figure to be in the .650 - .750 range. This defense is good and ST has shown the ability to steal a game in a pinch.
  18. Which O line are you watching? Stanley is starting LT > Alex Lewis > Hurst. It's for Flacco sake and health.
  19. If offense can put together drives and forget the 3-outs, this team will be much improved. Even if your not putting together a scoring drive, you need to at the very least gain enough yardage to win the field position game and not tire out your defense before the 4th quarter starts. Need a min of 3 first downs every possession on average. This team has the personnel to do it. Get it done and win a game for the defense this week.
  20. Kick some butts around if you have to Marty. Like the energy, focus and determination. Time to show a pulse on offense and look excited to be on the field every snap.
  21. Um.. is it just me or is anyone else concerned they used up their cap space mostly already? This is a scary thought going into next season when they will need to sign some players like BW. They have no one that can replace BW's level of play. In fact the way he replaced Ngata without much drop off was very telling of his level of play. Better make sure they get their ROI or else the team is going to have a rough transition next season. If the o-line is still banged up, figure to see Malett get the start or take a 50/50 shot of Flacco getting injured again.
  22. With CJ possibly being out Sunday, it will be a good chance for Orr to take the reigns of play calling, never a bad thing to be able to do lots. I'm hopeful KC is able to see increased snaps and show some of that relentless motor from earlier in camp. We will have to wait and see how the offensive line does with Marty calling the plays. If he can keep defenses honest, it will go along way towards helping them out up front.
  23. On Point 2) The fact the offensive line is dealing with some injuries is a concern. But the fact there was very little play calling to help massage that issue from being a problem is telling of the release of Trestman. After last seasons injuries I would have thought adjusting your plays and blocking to accommodate such an issue to be a non-issue. If anything the play calling was helping opponents exploit the offensive line issues. When you don't get protection up front or open up running lanes, it is going to affect all aspects of your play execution.
  24. Time will tell but IMHO that lack of execution was stemming from player frustration. It became more of a distraction as each went by. Not an excuse but when your unsure of the direction your headed, which anyone could clearly see, it starts to cast doubt and eat away at your confidence level to a degree. This is very much a sign that the system is not working when you lose buy in en mass. I am very optimistic about Marty Mornignweg mostly because he is already familiar with team, coaches and players. He also benefited from getting to observe things from a bit of a distance from both a coach and player perspective. He figures to have the best position to create the kind of gelling this offense needs right now. I see less of a new playbook and more polishing/adding a wrinkle here and there being the game plan. The biggest difference will be the actual calling of plays during the game and I think Marty has pretty good poker face in comparison. Time to let the players do what they do best and stick with what is working.
  25. Three straight passes!? After they get rid of an OC for too much passing when you have a capable run game.. I agree with mixing it up and if done well it can benefit the offensive line greatly until Stanley and Wagner return healthy. If you can run for 5 yards a carry then you can pound the rock all day and run PA or take those mid to deep shots over the defense when they crowd the LoS.
