And what is the title of this thread?  Stay on topic please.

Great read related to this topic:  http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/16153948/steve-smith-sr-defends-baltimore-ravens-teammate-breshad-perriman-vs-naysayers

Savage ? Haha true though... I completely agree with everything expressed in that article. Definitely worth the read... First I've heard from any of the players about the injury. Smitty hit it right on the head as well about naysayers who have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to injuries.

I'll be taking over for BALTIMOREFLACCO since he hasn't been around in quite awhile.  I have 7 picks to make up and I'll knock those out today.  I'll go on a voluntary 1 hour clock for the game since I likely won't be preparing ahead of time.  Sorry to ruin some people's days, but these picks were going to get made at some point.

Don't worry. I've fully braced myself for carnage.

I like the McCoy pick a good runner and can do some damage in the passing game as well.

Thank you! I wanted a back with receiving ability because Philip Rivers has thrived with certain guys like that. He has a little bit of a cleaner record of health than a few other guys I was considering waiting till next round to target.

not sure what you just said but...

yeah injuries are starting to really get on my nerves. i feel its worse now than its ever been, and it is really putting a hurting on this great game. so much excitement is constantly sapped out of fanbases because there are so many devastating injuries and injury bugs tearing down good teams.

its just so hard to ever be excited anymore when EVERY YEAR it seems that we have a good shot of doing something big and those hopes are dashed because we get trampled by injuries. rather than having big hopes for the season i find myself wondering when our next big injury is coming and who is it gonna be.

Last year seemed really bad for injuries all around the league. Every team seemingly lost at at least one star for the year. Our Ravens lost about 4 lol

I read part of the issues for wright was he would freelance routes in the previous offense. But they wanted him to stay in structure last year.

Yeah I read that as well... They need him to stay in structure for Mariota to help him develop. With a solid vet like Rivers in place, he can be allowed to run a lot more option routes, not quite freelancing but it still provides structure without losing the creative-play ability

  6. Well with several WRs coming off the board I figure I'll take a shifty guy like Kendall Wright now. He can be a deep threat and he'll partner with Phil Rivers to beat you underneath with a keen ability to rack up YAC... I think the reason he fell this far this year is due to a pretty rough 2015 season hampered by knee injuries and back injuries. He's good to go for 2016 and I expect a bounce-back year for him.

Even if you think Stars's success can be attributed to Short and the other talent around him, you can see I've got talent on my line as well with Dareus and Ealy

Yep he was one of the top defensive players left on my board. Only worry there is he's 29. I just need a little more youth because my whole team is about 27 or older haha

I don't think there's any measurable that translates to success. You can either play or you can't.

This is true. But IMO I think the pattern that's popped up most in recent years is having damn good hands. This is most important for success, but usually the catching ability has to complement either route-running skills (OBJ) or superior size (Mike Evans).

Not sure how I feel on this pick, really love Karl Joseph as a prospect. Think he is in a great situation in Oakland with (another player) beside him and some nice pass rush. I think my team offers similar talent around on D with a good pass rush and some solid corners on the outside. Obviously worry about the injury. My bigger concern is I truly do believe S is one of the hardest if not the hardest transitions from college to the pros. They are asked to know and do so much on the field and are usually in terrible match-ups. I have a lot of faith in Joseph blossoming into a great player and he is one of the few safeties available who has the skill set to do it all

Edited to fix the name drop, and I completely agree. I really like this guy. I got him in the mid second in the forum mock, and he was my backup FS, due to having Jairus Byrd back there. I liked being able to let him sit for a year and learn behind a vet whose coverage skills were supreme in his day.

Yet after some more thought on the subject and discussions with @-Truth- after the pick, I think I agree with him that Karl Joseph's best fit is as an all-around SS. His game translates best to playing out of the box though. He's solid in coverage and tackles with ferocity in space. He never takes a play off, and he's one hell of a competitor.

I think in any other fan base, Stewart would have been long gone by now.

That is exactly my goal with Maxwell and Stewart, so I'm glad you mentioned it.  Earl Thomas is obviously a better safety than Stewart, I'm not trying to say they're equals.  But I do think Stewart can handle a Cover 1, a Robber 1 so Burnett can run free, and a press Cover 3.   So I took the two best press CBs I could find.  I do NOT have a Legion of Boom, more like a Squad of Pop.  But I'm trying to mimic that design.  "Baby Boomers" if you will.   But that's how I intend to get Maxwell back up to his Seattle performance.

I think Miami is going to use him the same way I am.   Press in Cover 1 and let Reshad Jones roam freely (I wanted Jones, I'm fine with Burnett).  So I looked past last year to guesstimate his trajectory.

I lost it here... Well played lol

Pryor is interesting to me because he was so strong against the run in college and his rookie year, but weak in coverage. Then, in 2015, he really seemed to hammer down on honing his pass defense and suffered from bad tackling technique and lost some of his run defense. Will be eager to see if he can mesh his 2014 and 2015 together in 2016.

Yeah, he still had some pop on his hits but he wasn't wrapping up as he should have been. Yet I do think it's easier to fix bad tackling technique than it is to improve coverage.

I heavily debated him for a few rounds, but I decided a box safety isn't what I want

In reference to Vaccaro, this is what I eventually decided and I took Calvin Pryor a lot earlier. Due to his lack of supreme coverage ability you'd probably need a FS like Earl Thomas or Harrison Smith who is a true center fielder... Someone able to cover a large amount of space in a Cover 1 man scheme or Cover 3 zone. I love Eric Weddle, but he can't cover ground like he used to. I think he fits better with a running mate like Pryor instead of having a box safety that helps mostly in the run game, or manning up against a TE
