Getting Pitta locked up before the franchise tag date is imperative because it would allow us to tag Monroe

Jason Lake Canfora just said that the talks with Pitta are progressing well and he wouldn't be surprised if Pitta is signed soon or shortly after the tag date.

Except Monroe won't get that. Peters is a six time Pro-Bowler and a five time All-Pro. Monroe is neither. Monroe is great, easily top 10 and arguably top 7, but Jason Peters is one of the best, if not the best, left tackles in the league. How did he go undrafted?

Trust me, I love Monroe and everything he did to keep Flacco from getting killed last season. I say pay the man. He is totally worth $9 million a season, especially after you paid your quarterback $120 million. Keep him healthy.

Terrell Suggs filed a grievance over the franchise tag because he wanted to be tagged as a defensive end, not an outside linebacker. That was before Flacco. No grievances have been filed amongst Ravens players since Flacco came in. We're only speculating that PItta MIGHT.

If there were a slot receiver tag (maybe we can invent one?), I'd be pushing so hard for that tag.

Everyone says Ebron will be gone like it's a foregone conclusion and we must sign Pitta because of that. I disagree. I've seen several mock drafts where he falls to the Ravens. I mean, this is why we have the draft. So we can see where he's going to go. I think he could make it to the Ravens. Also, for those using chemistry as a reason to re-sign Pitta, Joe had great chemistry with Heap and Mason, but he developed new chemistry with Boldin and Pitta. Joe developed some seriously quick chemistry with Marlon Brown and while we haven't found the answer at tight end if Pitta leaves, I'm sure Joe would work hard to develop chemistry with his new target

I think we're looking at $9 million for Monroe. He's not as good as Jason Peters and didn't have nearly as good of a season, but he is still one of the better tackles in the NFL. I honestly hope this Jason Peters deal pushes along the Monroe deal
