  1. One pundit predicts Eli will have a good day, based on us getting new OC and being banged up...well, true our O has several injuries and new OC...however our D doesn't have as many injuries (CJ and Doom) nor a new DC...and we played most of our season thus far without Doom and still were solid...so that person forgot Eli faces our DEFENSE not offense. Heh

  2. When the player intercepts the ball but then fumbles...yeah he should maintain possession...and that's no joke ? How did that stupid touchback rule start anyway...and why? Interception is an interception. To intercept means to get the ball away from opponents offense BECAUSE YOU CAUGHT IT. It's caught, it's done...our ball (at 1 yard line). Er, or should be imho. Sure would have been nice to have that one back!

YES! I'm gonna get my Gunslinger back! All this crap about the running game "The Ravens never had a RB problem they had a QB problem and Joe Flacco solved that"! Now, "LETS SLING THAT ROCK" Sunday! It was just like I figured it would be when the running game starts going and the Ravens rely HEAVILY on it we would loose and we did! 1st quarter of the season and all this is happening at the rite time! I've been hard on Joe because this is HIS team no one else's and if he doesn't have that "RELENTLESS" attitude like the entire team it won't work! Ray Lewis told him in the locker room in front of the whole team this is his team and he has to push harder and make everyone play better like Ray did PERIOD! Because WE THE BEST!

The only reason we lost is BC we didn't stick with the run game. If we had kept pounding it down their throat with west when he was averaging 8.9 ypc then Joe could've thrashed them with the deep ball late. We totally beat ourselves.

Yes. And notice Pitta saying he wants to see more balance between the rush and pass game...I agree this is important. Marty likely will incorporate the run more evenly balanced and I gather the pass will still be the majority of snaps but to still make sure we don't abandon the run ...especially when it's working...like last Sunday.

A QBs footwork is never going to be good when he constantly has pressure in his face. I don't see how he could be more accurate. He's completing almost 2/3 of his passes despite having no time to throw and wrs that can't get open or catch.

Yes it's kudos to Joe on his passing accuracy despite being under continual pressure from the rush, I agree.

Why the pessimism??? Talking about replacing everyone!!! ARE YOU NUTS???!!! First of all, the thing I love about watching Ravens football last year, this year, and every year is the fact that we have the coolest level headed group of coaches and players. They believe they can WIN every game even when we are down 21 or more points. Do you want to be like the Raiders have been for the Past 13 years or the Redskins have been on and off for the past 17 years with no continuity or hope because they are constantly influx.  EVERYONE needs to read the bellow article from last week by Dan Steinberg about that issue comparing the Redskins to the Ravens. I know I don’t want to see us in flux for the next 10 to 20 years without any hope.

What would a more patient Redskins organization look like? A lot like the Ravens

The Ravens also have one thing the Redskins have almost never demonstrated: faith in continuity and patience. That’s why the Ravens could falter so badly last season — going 5-11 during an injury-marred mess — and then brag about their commitment to stability.

“If you go through the league, the winning teams are the ones that have the least turnover in their front office and their coaching staffs,” Baltimore owner Steve Bisciotti said during the offseason, while explaining that no major changes were in store. “You can’t just turn things over based on your record. I think that just sends you down. … One thing that I’m proud of is that we all view continuity as a strength. … Continuity doesn’t stem from laziness, it comes from confidence.”

I agree! We are lucky this team is truly every sense of the word 'teammates'. Continuity is important. That's why I think Harbs waited so long on Trestman. It's a move that was needed after our season started to stall...to keep the focus on track and begin a turnaround for the better, but I can see how they are not quick to just drop people at first signs of trouble. Nice article you shared to put it in perspective.

Has Hardbaugh been asked or answered any questions about that fake field goal. Specifically the fact that he had Justin line up as if he was going to kick it with his left foot which really was a dead give away. There are not many left footed kickers in this league and I can guarantee that when a team is facing a left footed kicker everyone on the field goal unit knows it. Its not like it is a huge difference but there are minor changes players on the FG cover unit make when facing a left footed kicker. So it would be difficult to come to the conclusion that the way Tucker lined up would go unnoticed. Has Harbaugh explained why he thought this was a good idea? I mean I think the Trestman move was long overdue, but two questionable decisions by John over these last two weeks have really hurt this team. I am not saying that he should belfried but, he needs to be accountable. I know he said he didn't regret the play call, but I am interested in his decision making process in the design of that play. Thats all. Has he been asked about that or answered that question?

Well, if it had worked, everyone would be praising the play, it just didn't work out..... I personally have no problem with trying a few potential "trick plays", sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but I would also prefer we have more points on the board when trying these types of plays ??

I'm with you. I like the aggressiveness of Harbaugh. I love it really, more coaches need to do it. I also am with you on that I don't think it was the time, however I'm not the one watching my OC abandon the only thing that was working on offense. He may have been thinking he needed to do something to spark the team and the fake field goal was it. The Skins said they didn't notice tucker lined up left, so he might have caught them sleeping too. Also it was nearly executed to give us the TD, just slightly under thrown. The defender had it hit him in the back of the helmet, it wasn't like he was playing it perfectly.

The bigger question IMHO was what was going on right before the half?

Steve Smith and Wagner got injured, ...four of the five offensive linemen were at positions they didn’t play just a week ago. It was a momentum changer that didn't help us at all and got the Skins pumped to rush our QB all rest of game.

  7. Will be very curious to see if Marty can work with our weak O-line to get more out of them when starters are down. To me, that is the critical issue right now. Doesn't matter if you have good receivers when the QB is being chased/hit/sacked/hurried.

Yep, and here's a stat from last game (quoted from this article) to support this:

"Baltimore surrendered a league-worst 23 quarterback pressures on Sunday, per Pro Football Focus."

  8. "And as bad as the Ravens have looked on offense, believe it or not, they are still in a strong position in the AFC race."

My second team Dallas Cowboys (grew up near Texas and so it's a family team as a little girl I was a Cowboy fan) is helping us this year. So any Cowboy haters reading this, there's reason to like them (a teeny weeny bit) this year at least...they are playing AFC North and so far beat Browns and Cincinnati. They play Steelers 11/13 so hoping they kick their butts. Then we play Dallas the following week...so...hope we beat them that week lol. But all the other matchups in our div they've been helping us by beating our rivals. Well, Cincinnati anyway (and later Steelers). Browns we don't seem to need help with they still haven't gotten their seasons back on track yet.

  9. If things aren't going well, you'll always have a scapegoat. But Ravens are still a winning team this year, and still, people were frustrated. Therefore, hopefully, an OC change will help. Only thing I'm worried about is, how long it takes for Mornhinweg to change the O performance, and whether it's for the better.

I'm really concerned about the OL injuries, especially on the left side. Stanley, please be good and come back! Also, hope that CJ makes it back alright. Hamstring is a pain in the backside (literally), but he's making progress. Yes, the fumble was horrible, poorly timed, and ultimately cost the Ravens, but I'm sure that one won't happen again! And how many INTs is it this year? Was that a third?

Terrible towel, Big Ben is a friend... are you going to let that go down easy and take it? Let it sink in.

...Let it sink in. Lol my feelings exactly!

  10. Glad SSr's injury isn't bad, sounds like it isn't anyway. Can walk on it a very good sign.

Yeah, never want to see ppl fired...they are humans with lives, families. But it's to be understood in NFL it happens fairly regularly to coaches, and players (released or traded). Still it's not ideal. Ideal is to have everyone together and functioning cooperatively, so now they start with Mornhinweg...a new beginning. I truly wish there be stability with this so we get an OC that sticks around.

  11. Perriman is impressive thus far...those drops are what he needs to fix, but I've seen his talent show. The foot out of bounds that call back the TD...well that would have been a tough one to pull off having to go up high for the catch and then extend the right foot back in bounds after it was already headed out. But, man oh man if only that play would have went in our favor. It was a good catch in end zone. Thus I'm still hopeful, very hopeful for Perriman just getting some more experience and not making those rookie mistakes in time.

  12. You know who caught everything in traffic last year? Aiken. Maybe we need to go Smith/Aiken. Don't forget Kamar also runs a 4.45.

Yeah, Aiken has had some tough breaks these last 2 games. But I still remember how good he is in traffic making those catches last year, like you said. Plus his speed. SO, I haven't given up on him despite one bad game with Raiders and a not great game with Skins. I know he is a one to rely on, and looks like we'll need him more this next game with Smith recovering. Hopefully SS plays but probably he'll have limited play if at all, on the ankle recovery issue. So...bring in #11!

  13. I wasn't a Trestman supporter, I just wanted continuity. I was a Kubiak supporter actually and was mad at him for abandoning us after he said he would not take head coaching job, that his heart was here with us to help make us the best we could be. Then next week he's off to Denver I felt betrayed. Then, afterwards I realized...yeah it's his dream job in Denver, I can't blame him. But...I was happy with Kubiak here.

Still I wasn't against Trestman. But since I wasn't really for him either, not like Kubiak, I can adjust easily to the change. Sad to see him go...but here's an interesting stat on our new OC Mornhinweg:

"During his career as an Offensive Coordinator, Mornhinweg's offenses have finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th, and 12th in total offense, and regularly highly ranked in big plays." Wiki

Good news, so he didn't have a good head coaching record in his brief time with Lions but pretty decent OC record. More than decent actually...never fell below 12th place total offense.

  14. And I think they really wanted to keep a Trestman, if only for continuity (2 years OC) but finally decided to make a major change after yesterday. Changing OC is no easy task. It worked well in 2012, but in 2012 we had so many veteran players and some good 2nd, 3rd year players...that they could read out plays and make big moves naturally on the field with less coaching help. This is a rebuilding year and not quite the same so it's not something to compare exactly because they need to get better overall at this point whereas in 2012 they just needed to be changing up play calls to give the experience and talent that year a chance to break out.

Not saying there not talent THIS year, as indeed there is...just we don't have the veteran league we had in 2012. We have some good veterans tho, but it's more a mix of levels and experience this year.

  15. I thought he had a longer leash, and I think he actually did going into the Skins game. But after the poor showing of offense against a weak Wash D, his leash shortened to the point of nothing. While this may very well help the Ravens, it's not going to fix all things.

It will give a fresh start, and cause some big changes to be made. So hopefully they also can address the other issues that weren't coach related, thus attack this thing full force. I think they will. I think this is just one part of their strategy to get back on track. That game yesterday was just painful to watch. Had to do something major at this point, while it's early in season. But not early enough to just wait.

  16. Yeah, firing Trestman is more of a shake things up move than it is going to actually solve the main issues. The only thing I keep thinking is, it's a move that helps the QB stay in the season, because I could tell, as many could...Joe was not happy yesterday by end of game. Hiring the quarterbacks coach to be the new OC is a boost for any QB who has a good chemistry with that personnel change...so I think that's what Harbs and co. are aiming is to help give Joe a boost with this coaching change, because that essentially helps the entire O and obviously that helps our D and ST.

    1

  17. Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. While I'll agree that Trestman is not the long-term solution, and maybe he makes some bad calls, let's keep in mind that your play selection is EXTREMELY limited when your offensive line can't protect the QB.

Joe was rushed, sacked, chased, and hit so many times after Wagner left the game that the options were very limited. If the line can't open holes for a run, then you can't run. If the receivers don't have time to get down the field because the QB is being chased, then you don't make deep throws.

And when we did make deep throws, Perriman let one go through his hands, and then he came down out of bounds in the endzone.

Firing Trestman (and I'm not saying that's a bad idea, but you better have someone better to replace him with) will not fix the lack of depth on the O-line, not will it make Perriman catch deep passes. Nor will it give Flacco time to wait for his receivers to get open.

Exactly. Plays just don't get time to fully set up. Flacco was on the run no sooner than the ball came out through much of the game. Can't expect ANYTHING to go as it should when they can't even set it up the way it's supposed to work in the first place.

  18. Seems some people didn't realize ricky wagner went out in the 2nd quarter and never came back. Once Wagner went out our O Line went to poo. Jensen and Urschel couldn't block anything after that point.

Yes so the backups need to get the job done but they are not. But worse than that is injuries will come into play. Because the Skins weren't out to do serious damage to us, they are not nasty rivals with us. But what about the future games where we play a nasty rival? Steelers for example. Think they want to cause some hurt? I do. And as we are right now, we can't hold off any Defensive rush. And that level of 'ugly' play to come in future games, and I'm not even talking illegal plays, just the level of forceful playing to come...is something our current OL can't handle because they can't even handle a friendly rivals level of play. A low ranked defenses's level of play.

They better do something about this. Pronto.

  19. CJ I still think it was a great catch. Hey, all your other interceptions this year have been awesome. I can see where you wanted to get the TD, get the score. It was a mistake but I could see what you were trying to do it just went wrong. As players you train and train to take the play as far as possible, into the endzone if possible...I understand how it happened you "tried" for that extra yardage. I don't see it as a stupid play, it was more a matter of split second decision that got away from you.

And it IS a stupid rule. What the rule should be is ruled a fumble on 1 yard line but Ravens maintain possession due to the initial interception and run back.
