Yep. It turned out nicely in this case too, as Apple seems to be developing into a #1 CB.

The argument for Butt to the Giants is that he very much fits the Reese/Giants mold for TEs. They value blocking (and with this OL I would as well) above pass catching. It's why I knew they would never take Ebron a couple years back. It's also why instead of upgrading at OT this offseason, they signed Marshall and Ellison. The Giants had horrendous blocking at TE last year, and it made the OT situation and running game seem even worse. A good blocking TE can make even Flowers potentially look like a decent OT (that and he is supposedly improving).

I was a huge advocate for signing Fasano for the same reason, but unfortunately he went to Miami.

Odd that they would have Butt over Howard at TE, because while Butt isn't a bad blocker, he's really not anything to write home about either in that regard. Howard is a much better blocker than Butt.

  2. I disagree that it is a steep drop off after Davis. Drop off yes, he is insanely talented and if he was just a little bigger and didn't have injury concerns, he'd be a first round lock. However, there are one or two other ILBs I like a lot.

  3. With Adams off the board, I'm not really seeing any other DTs I'm in love with. A lot of talk about weak QB and OT groups, but DT is really bad this year outside Adams, since McDowell and another player I like, but who hasn't been take yet are more like 3-4 ends

They won't fix defense in one year but they are going to seriously load up in this draft.I wouldn't rule them out of moving very high up the board, using future picks, since it looks like they've found themselves franchise QB last year.

I agree but since both Gregory and Lawrence  can't stay on the field, they have a very weak pass rush in addition to secondary problems. Their interior DL and LBs aren't bad and they have an absurdly high powered offense, but that's going to take a while to fix.

The Cowboys have an absolutely awful front seven (which they have also lost players from this offseason), but had a solid secondary, Now their 4 starters are all gone, leaving them just with Byron Jones and Scandrick as the only secondary players with any sort of meaningful experience.

First off, I never said trading down in a draft to accumulate more picks is a bad idea. That's grabbing more players on rookie deals not grabbing a 1 yr rental that we won't be willing to pay $13m/yr to.

    Totally different scenarios.

And of the couple times we've traded out of a first time you've picked arguably the worst of the bunch.

We traded back from pick 25 to I believe 43 and picked up an extra 3rd and 4th round pick.

Those netted us Sergio Kindle, Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta. Only Pitta was integral in winning the SB and we could've selected him anyways.

By trading back we missed an opportunity to draft Gronk who we were really high on and got taken by the Pats one pick ahead of us at 42 which would've made the one positive of trading out of the 1st (Pitta) completely irrelevant. Or maybe we'd have both.

Couldve also grabbed Devin McCourty, Jerry Hughes or TJ Ward and had the safety issues solved that led to Elam/Brooks/Huff revolving door or got us the dominant pass rusher across from Suggs we've desperately needed.

Thats all hypothetical though. And it's irrelevant bc this trade has nothing in common with your Butler proposal.

Even if it did, this is a horrible example of a trade that "worked." Yea we won a SB 2 years later in spite of, not bc of this trade.

You forget that Jerry Hughes flamed out of Indy, and that personally, Sergio Kindle was one of the best players I've seen play for the University of Texas. He was going to be a beast if he didn't get hurt like that. Broncos got Tebow out of that deal, so it ended up still being better for us, even if we only netted Pitta.

I can't speak on anyone else I just like bouncing ideas around and yes some of them are going to be longshots or unpopular but we're not all going to agree on everything, I got roasted for saying Conklin and Whitehair were the best linemen in the draft (and they are). Anyways no harm, no foul, you're still one of my favorite posters.

Neither one plays LT, so I'm going to have to slightly disagree. Ricky Wagner might be one of the best RTs in the game, but I'd still rank most starting LTs above him.

Nope he's not. But let's hope he has better honor and character than playing like a bottom dweller QB on purpose. Even if he plays horribly I don't think its because he wants to play horribly. It can be because he's regressed severely. But, I am hopeful that we'll see a 40 TD 10 INT - 5000 yard Flacco with about 10 ypc.

Or better still I would just like him to be regular ole Joe trhowing 20-24 times a game for about 200 yds, 1 TD no INT and hands the ball over more than he throws! That now is a recipe for success.

Realistic, we haven't gotten peak market value out of Joe's contract, but he hasn't gone full Cutler either. He needs to play better, but it's not all on him. That being said, if we lower are exceptions to the point were Joe is posting average stats for maybe the early 2000s/90s, what was the point of even paying him? Yes, Joe does better with an active run game, but why give him big bucks in the first place if you expect him to play like Alex Smith?

I agree with trading him to Cleveland for both there first round picks. Just bite the bullet and move on. We draft Garrett with the first pick and Mike Williams or Cory Davis with the 12th pick because we didn't give Pryor 8 million for 1 year. Cleveland is desperate and probably will pull the trigger. Draft CB Tabor or Wilson from Florida in the 2ND and build the offensive line in the 3rd. The Brandon William deal is probably another set back. He should of walked and transition our defense from the 3-4 to a 4-3 defense. Jernigan is not a true 3-4 linemen. Mosley isn't a true 3-4 Linebacker because he doesn't blockshed well.

                                4-3 Defense

          Suggs.  Jernigan.   Pierce.   Garrett

               Correa.     Mosley.    Onwuasor

    Smith.  Jefferson. Weddle. Tabor/wilson

Ravens defense would finally be back.

I guess Mosley wasn't a true 3-4 ILB when he played all those years for Bama either...

Yeah I like the value and fit here, just think he will be overdrafted IRL

Totally agree, he needs develop for a year to really succeed IMO. Chargers, Saints, Chiefs, and Vikings (depending on how they feel about Teddy Bridgewater could all be solid locations to go, as they have QBs that could bridge.

For the record, I was considering Ramczyk at 10 if I wasn't able to get my guys. Really like what he brings in the running game. He is so much fun to watch run block.

Also really like the Cook pick, think Tampa would be a great fit for him

Not the biggest fan of Mitch but getting good value from him at this point

Really like Ross assuming he is healthy, solid route runner and can get separation on just about anyone with speed and quickness. This guy was running open down the field multiple times a game and his QB missed him or underthrew him a lot. I think Tyreek Hill is a good comp for him if healthy but a little more polished and maybe not as good a runner given Hill was a running back I think.

Pretty big fan of Conley, not the best against the run game but think he is about as solid as anyone in the draft in coverage

I wouldn't have taken Mitchell top 10 for sure, but I still think he is the only first round worthy QB in this class and I think his value probably best served around the 13-25 range.

  12. The OSU secondary the last couple years has been nuts. Had two guys get drafted and one go undrafted last year and make a team. Two of those guys ended up becoming starters and playing really well. This year they could have (as evidenced here) three secondary players go in the first round alone, two of which didn't even start for the 2015 team.

Although I really wanted to do it in FA, my plan for my defense has finally come to fruition.  Although my depth chart isn't going to completely reflect it, my plan all along was to allow Damarious Randall to play more of his natural S spot, and Morgan Burnett to play the hybrid ILB/S role that he excelled in late in the season.  I'm a huge fan of Conley and he's been my target all along.

I'm a huge fan of Conley as well. I'd bet in real life that he has a shot of going even higher than where you took him.
