Realistic, we haven't gotten peak market value out of Joe's contract, but he hasn't gone full Cutler either. He needs to play better, but it's not all on him. That being said, if we lower are exceptions to the point were Joe is posting average stats for maybe the early 2000s/90s, what was the point of even paying him? Yes, Joe does better with an active run game, but why give him big bucks in the first place if you expect him to play like Alex Smith?
