Joe Flacco didn't attend the draft if that's what you mean? I don't remember Matt Elam coming up to the podium when we took him. I could be wrong but I also don't think Jimmy Smith was in attendance when we took him.
Corey Davis/Mike williams in round 1
Anyone else round 2
Anyone else round 3a
Anyone else round 3b
lol i really want one of those guys
but realistcally
Corey Davis
Quincy Wilson
Derek Rivers
Ethan Pocic or Pat Eflein
Let's not forget Kaufusi will be back. He could soften the blow too. We have too many "young DE's with potential" and finally they can unleash that potential....at least thats what I'm hoping lol. Plus two early(ish) 3rd round picks this year is looking quite nice ![]()
Just saying this but I haven't seen this point brought up too often. Mike Wallace's option was picked up, but if I understand his contract correctly he will be a UFA next offseason. This is another reason i see WR as a round 1, or round 2, addition to get a top guy who can develop to replace Wallace. If we don't get a top receiver this year we might be looking for two in next year's draft which I don't think the FO wants to do.
I am warming up to the idea of john ross for us at 16. if he is healthy he is the fastest player in the nfl. breshad already has size so he could be that possession guy as well as go deep. Ross is a great route runner, and with him, wallace, and perriman on the field someone will get open quick. Plus imagine we get a guy like Boldin in free agency after the draft whose sole purpose is to grab the short to intermediate routes, along with the tight ends, defenses won't know who to cover! Three of the fastest guys in the nfl would be crazy. Draft some o-line men later in the draft and maybe an explosive running back and we could have a lethal offense. If the running game works next season and the other things happen too, the play action would be insane.
Just now, rmw10 said:This wouldn't change my draft strategy at all. Carr should be a solid bridge but I highly doubt we're signing him thinking we've solved the CB issues. Needs to be Carr in addition to a draft pick.
I agree 100% however, I do believe getting a pass rusher/elite lineman type/top WR should be the priority with round number 1. I still think we will definitely sign a CB after round 1 and even between rounds 2-3, though.
There were rumors about this, and if true, would anyone want the Ravens to try to trade for Brandin Cooks? If so, what do you think it would take to bring him on from NO? Also on this note, what are some teams and players you could see being traded specifically at the WR position? We've gone that route before with Boldin so its not out of the question.
I love Joe Flacco, but the dude is done. Please don't call me a fair-weather fan and look, I get that there are problems around him but maybe a change of scenery is needed. PLEASE PLEASE make some changes biscotti or we will tread mediocre waters for years and years. What separates bad teams from great is that they know the definition of insanity: "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". Great organizations make changes when needed and we are the definition of insanity week to week this year.
Lol I was thinking about this as well. I used to love these even before I was a member of the forums board. I agree with someone above who posted that they should just do them every two weeks or even just one big session one time during the summer. I would definitely enjoy having them back.
Mike Mularkey!! Just kidding of course, but Mularkey is a fun name to say.
Can someone please tell me what would happen with Monroe if we drafted Tunsil? I get that Tunsil is a dynamite OT prospect but at the same time if we take him we would probably start him at LT and so where would monroe go? Would Tunsil potentially start at OG like many rookie tackles do? And also isn't he injury prone? We would still need a replacement for Osemele at LG. I would much rather take a defensive player at 6 than Tunsil, and take an OG in the mid rounds where they can easily become quality starters.
Any answer to these questions would be great?
Well if last season taught us anything, it's that a quick turnaround is no longer off the table in the National Football League if you have the pieces in place and quality front office like the Panthers. I mean did everyone forget that they just lucked out the season before going 7-8-1 and still winning their division, and the year after that they went 17-2 and to the Super Bowl? If the right moves are made and the coach is in place to do so, then a large turnaround is possible, and I think Harbaugh and Newsome at least give us the possibility to do that (not saying they will, just saying the possibility exists.
If everything goes well, Flacco will have Ben Watson, Mike Wallace, and Breshad Perriman as new targets (and maybe a new WR from the draft). That is 3 definite new targets, 2 of whom have shown they can get open and be relied upon in other offenses. The running game scares me a little more than most mostly because we don't know how Forrest will be when he comes back as RB is a tough position to bounce back after an injury. I love Buck Allen as much as the next guy but to me he is best as a receiving threat out of the backfield, so to me getting a guy like Elliott in the first would serve as a huge upgrade to our offense, and with a talent like that Trestman will have to give him carries or he would be chased out of town.
Our offensive line isn't as big of a question mark as people make it out to be. Euegen Monroe is a starter and quality one at that. I know he's been hurt in the past but I believe with all the doubt of the offseason and people questioning him he will be extra motivated this season, at least I hope. Yanda is one of the best guards if not the best, and Zuttah is a quality Center. LG is our only real question but we have young guys who have been put on the spot in the last few years and so their development has been accelerated which sucked for them at the time but will help them tremendously this offseason. And Rick Wagner is a young but up and coming right tackle who had a down year last year but he was coming off injury and I expect him to play at the rookie level he played in after a full offseason. I think Ronnie Stanley would be a bad pick at number 6, maybe if we traded down but he just doesn't look like a surefire prospect at OT and we need a surefire guy with such a high pick that we don't normally have.
Now on to the defense I have a lot of hope. If you look at our front 7, it is still a dominant force. With the likes of Jernigan, Brandon Williams, CJ Mosely, Dumervil coming back, and Terrell Suggs hopefully playing at pre-inury level we should be set. Not to mention we have guys who showed promise like Carl Davis, Za'Darius Smith, Urban and of course KLM who will hopefully stay healthy for a full season finally. Then not to mention the most underrated move of the offseason is the hiring of Leslie Frazier. Did no one see how much a difference a coach coming in can make? Remember how Kubiak came in with mostly the same offense (minus stEVE Smith) and quickly made it the best in franchise history? I believe Frazier, not to that extent of course, but he can make some things happen as the secondary coach. Especially with my favorite offseason addition ERIC WEDDLE coming in and motivated and hungry he will make a huge impact along with a rejuvenated Jimmy Smith, Shareece Wright, and a position switch for Lardarius Webb. I see a bright future guys!!
Sorry to break the news to you.....Desmond King just announced he's returning to Iowa next season.
Has anyone had the thought cross their mind that maybe the front office has inside info that Pitta will be alright and will play next season, and that's why they aren't as hard pressed to get a new TE? Even if this were the case, it would be wise for them to get another TE because last year Pitta seemed really healthy and back to form going into the season, so even if he goes through capm and seems in old form, he could get hurt again, and then it would be career over no doubt. Or maybe the front office is high on Maxx Williams and will take him at 26?
I agree for the most part but if they traded up to get Waynes I couldnt be happier
Never thought of that. That would be great. I keep thinking they would trade up for a receiver or maybe a pass rusher but never trae waynes. That would be interesting and could move webb to the slot and we would have a top secondary if smith heals up and plays like he was last year.
Will this front office PLEASE get Joe a #1 receiving option! Joe has never had a true #1 option, Brady has Gronk, Manning has DT, Luck has Hilton, Ben has AB, Dalton has Green.. you invest all this money in Joe and now you're giving him bargain bin talent to throw the ball to. We have a massive hole at TE, we have a massive hole at WR, Smith Sr is still productive but on his last legs, Camp and Aiken have good potential but as we learned in 2013 you don't go into a season with just "potential" at WR or you can end up getting burned.
We do such a great job of putting together a well rounded team at nearly every position yet for some strange reason we ignore WR year after year after year. Always adding stop gaps like Boldin and Smith Sr but never investing in a young player who will be here for the long haul. Last time we drafted a WR in the first 3 rounds was Torrey in 2011! That's inept player development at a key position when we have so much invested in a franchise QB.
The draft is our only hope this year. Please Ozzie do what needs to be done and trade up for Amari, White, or Parker. Yes we will have to give up a few valuable picks but we are getting #1 talent on a rookie contract. I'm going to be livid if we send Joe into next season with some rag tag group like Smith Sr, Greg Jennings, Aiken, Camp, Zack Miller. That's not going to cut it, this offense needs an explosion in the passing game with Torrey and Daniels gone and it needs it now if we have any plans to actually compete for a SB. The defense just needs a few minor touches, the offense needs drastic moves at WR and TE.
Dear Front Office, please listen to this guy as he speaks the truth. I will be so mad and disappointed if they draft a DLineman or a cornerback in the first. In fact, the first three rounds in my opinion should be devoted to a WR, TE, and RB then after that get all the depth on defense you want! Please just give flacco weapons this year. If the experiment doesn't work, then next season you can draft all defense and I won't complain but please try this approach this year!! Please and Thank you.
The Ravens just restructured Lardarius Webb's contract per a league source according to Aaron Wilson!! No details out yet, but I will update it when they come out.
Tramon Williams is going to be 33 in one month, can he really be a piece of the puzzle?
He just turned 32 today. He is still a great CB and would be a great addition to this team.
i don't want wayne nicks or shorts
I have more belief in stevie johnson
also..while it would be shocking..greg hardy would be a very good mcphee replacement
Stevie might happen...but no way we get Hardy. The dude allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend. We are staying away from any of those guys. If they do somehow sign him they are straying off their word and should draft DGB but that's never happening.
Players I hope the Ravens will consider:
TE: Jermaine Gresham (realistic), Rob Housler (realistic), Jordan Cameron (if he isn't asking for too much), Julius Thomas (Hey....I just said consider).
WR: Kenny Britt (not too expensive, realistic), Michael Crabtree (depends how much he believes he is worth), Cecil Shorts (a cheaper Torrey who put up similar numbers with a really terrible QB situation), Andre Johnson (when released, if asking price isn't too high), Hakeem Nicks (only for flier money), Nate Washington (only for flier money).
CB: Cary Williams (knows the system, is better than given credit), Brandon Flowers (semi-realistic, if enough cap space is created), Davon House (an up and comer possibly), Buster Skrine (get a good young guy and keep him from division rival), Kareem Jackson (if price is right), Byron Maxwell (one can dream, can;t they?)
Safety: Tyvon Branch (could end up being a steal, and has potential), Rahim Moore (won't be too too expensive), Antrel Rolle (Will Hill lobbied for him, they were a good combo in NY, should have interest in playing for contending Ravens).
I see all of these names being thrown around like its a fantasy football draft. We DONT have the cap space to get top tier players in Purple!!! Period
A lot of the names being thrown around are not that out of the realm of possibility. Many people have brought up a guy like Housler as a young tight end in a bad system who has a lot of potential and is totally affordable. Also guys like Kenny Britt and Cecil Shorts that really are affordable. To me, it comes down to the front office's plans and whether they see the same potential, which obviously they would know more about. Also, even a guy like Julius Thomas is not out of the question. I don't know if you follow Jamison Hensely, the reporter on ESPN but he said that what he thinks will be the biggest offseason surprise is that the team will go after a big time wide receiver like Demaryius Thomas (who admittedly will probably not reach the market anyways). But it's really not impossible to see some of these names in purple next season and if nothing else it is just fun to speculate and dream about certain players and scenarios playing out, which is what this thread is all about.
Does anyone know if/when there will be a state of the franchise press conference by Steve Bisciotti and Ozzie like there was last year?
I want to preface my comments by stating that I loved the job Ozzie Newsome, Eric Decosta and everyone else did this past weekend in the draft. In terms of value picks, it didn't get much better than that. But now, I've been holding some thoughts back that I just want to get out.
How did we not get a WR in the first three rounds? With the deepest class in years in which a number 1 could be found as late as early in the third round and number 2's all the way to round 7? Going on NFL.com and seeing all these videos and how they focus mostly on offense on that website discussing all the great receivers teams got, it just annoys me that we didn't take a chance on a guy like Allen Robinson or Cody Latimer in the second or even a davante adams or a jared abbrederis. My dream pick was Mike Evans who I seriously think will be a top 5 NFL Wide Receiver within the next 4 years, and seeing them go to a team other than the ravens is a hard pill to swallow knowing we could've gotten them at some point in the draft. I love Steve Smith Sr. and hope he can be like a Derick Mason for us but other than Torrey, no other WR is that reliable. Marlon Brown had some stats but nothing incredible and I'm just not too sure his ceiling is any higher at this point. And Michael Campanaro is a steal who could've gone in the 3rd or 4th but he has injury concerns and has to have an outstanding training camp to make the 53-man roster. I just hope our WR corps shows significant improvement on the field this season or I'm not going to understand the front office's logic in missing out on a potential number 1 talent time after time this past draft.
The same could be said about passing up on a running back earlier on considering the horrible performance by the running back's last season and not knowing whether rice will play the full season or even be back to his former healthier self.
I just hope all these things get straightened out before the season.
The ravens signed Jerry Rice Jr. Obviously just being related to arguably the best receiver in NFL history makes him a big name, but it doesn't mean anything really. Just kind of cool that if he could make a roster it would be the Ravens.

If I'm the front office right now I'm calling the Jets and seeing what they want for Eric Decker........
