  1. Really like the hire here. Read on NFL.com that one reason the Browns backed off him was he wanted too much power, and one thing we have been saying is Harbaugh refuses to give his coaches full reigns. Maybe Harbuagh had a little change of heart but either way I'm happy to see a coach come in who will have more control of the offense and be able to change the overall scheme some rather than a guy making little "tweaks." Say what you want about Kubiak but I believe Flacco is better than Shaub and obviously better than David Carr, so I am really excited to see what he can do with this Ravens offense.

  2. The funny thing is, if you would have asked me before this week about Kyle I probably would have allowed the debacle in Washington to sway me away from him. However when I started digging into this guy, I think he's the right man for our offense. For year's I've been wishing ill will on the Houston Texans so that Kubiak could get fired because I absolutely loved that system. But looking at Shanny's system it's like he took the best of his dad and Kubiak and came up with his own creative style to the offense. I think he's the type of guy that likes a certain type of QB, but everyone else in the offense he can make them fit by using them to their strengths.

I've been asking for year to get Flacco back into that spread/west coast style offense that he is comfortable with and If Shanahan is the guy he'll do just that. He has just enough movement at the QB position to allow Flacco to be the athlete he is and his play design allows us to attack every level of the defense stretching it both deep and wide. Unless he just blows the interview personality wise, I think he's our guy.

I came onto this forum and was literally about to write the same post as you. Being from Northern Virginia all I ever heard was how bad Kyle Shanahan was and how the redskins offense sucked. But same as you after digging into him a little bit Shanahan is the guy I want. The reason is this, he worked in a pass first offense in Houston and then a run first offense in Washington. This guy knows how to implement systems to get the most out of his players. He has Andre Johnson and Matt Shaub in Houston, so he makes that offense into a top 5 passing offense in the league. He has RGIII and robert Morris in Washington, he turns that into a top 5 rushing offense in the league. With Flacco, hopefully a new receiving weapon, and a revamped offensive line, I really actually believe Shanahan could be the guy to boost the Ravens offense well into the top half of the league

  3. What terrifies me is the Raven's track record of promoting from within, and Hostler has offensive coordination experience. The problem is, as Jamison Hensley says on ESPN, is when Hostler was the OC for San Fran they were last in yards, passing yards, and points per game. I really hope the Ravens dont settle for continuity just because its available. Someone with a fresh outlook and new ideas needs to come in here, not another guy who will keep everything basically the same except for a "wrinkle" here or there. It is definitely encouraging to see the Ravens are putting in a few requests to interviews guys, so hopefully they stick with that plan and dont settle for whats right in front of them, because whats right in front of them is not very good

  4. Maybe we shouldn't get recycled OCs and go for a fresh new OC.

I know i mentioned this before but thoughts on a guy like rich rodriguez? Head coach of Arizona wildcats right now but might not be a bad idea to at least reach out to him to gauge interest. Has a fast paced offense with plays slightly similar to chip kelly. Could be the fresh start the offense is looking for. He would utilize the speedy receivers we have much better with crossing routes and drags and for anyone worried he wont run the ball...his main running back's stats in 2012: 303 attempts for 1900 yards and 2013: 349 attempts for 1900 yards. Probably has a pretty good gig down in Arizona but at least gauging a guy's like that interest wouldnt be a bad idea

  5. what about reaching out to a guy like rich rodriguez from Arizona (wildcats that is). Long time college head coach who employs a similar fast system like chip kelly. Could be interesting to see what he could do with a Ravens offense, I am sure he would bring innovation and creativity, however as everyone has been saying it seems Harbaugh is "slightly" opposed to overhauling the offensive philosophy. But with a pass catcher and elusive guy in ray rice and a straight hard hitter in pierce, then with smith and brown and possibly keep jones, then draft a guy like mike evans from Texas A&M early and maybe a solid slot guy with good hands in the 6th or 7th like Campanaro out of Wake Forest a fast tempoed and creative offense like Rodriguez would bring could be very effective
