With the 4 game losing streak Raven fans have reached a " Crescendo" of doubt laced apathy. Understandable. Hopefully in this home rivalry game against the Steelers the only Crescendo (increased volume in musical notes) we'll hear is the Seven Nation Army. After game 7 and we're playing 8 at home...WHAT!!!
Why not us? This ends tonight. GO Ravens!!! We are the Suicide Squad of the NFL (always has been). Play like RAVENS!
Michael Pierce ranked top 10 in rookie class. Stanley will most likely be in Pro Bowl on his return from injury. Not a bad rookie class - draft or not.
"Can't bring himself to hate the Steelers..." That's every bodies line before the rivalry game. He will afterwards or at least have an overwhelming dislike if he plays like a Raven. I'll bet a soiled yellow towel on it.
GO Ravens!!!
Huuuuummm, if they would have asked 'nicely' (Sky Box Steelers vs Ravens Game) I would have been happy to just let them use my tag. Oh, well. ![]()
FlocksGottaFeed - It just has such a nice ring to it.
I don't have any problem with Brent's assessment of the draft 'youth movement'. There is a possibility that some of our drafted player's potential may never be reached, but that can't be characterized as "...draft poorly". For the most part no matter where you draft in the 1st 4 rounds it's a total roll of the dice with a little intuition and science sprinkled on top.
When you look at the fact that our Ravens have always been placed in the top 5 (or very least top 10) in drafting since the Oz era collectively, consistently by a large majority of NFL experts, the last 4 years don't change that at all. 'Depth' crisis? 4-0 in the preseason matching-up against other teams draft classes.
What Brent has seemed to leave-out is that it's chess - not checkers even when it goes as planned. There are some guys drafted specifically to fill the back-up roles (injuries, trades, suspensions, etc.). They can't really be assessed for lack of play. There are some that aren't played because of scheme changes before they even hit training camp. They have to be coached-up to fit those changes. Lastly, there are 2-3-4 year plans that sometimes pro-bowlers can emerge from based on retirements in free agency. Poor drafting - way to early to determine. There are very few pro-bowl caliber players from the last 4 draft classes and we have 2 and potentially 3 (with Stanley). Out of the last 4 classes - several aren't even on the teams that drafted them, injured or are on teams buried DOA.
Roll the dice, baby.
Interesting. That happened.
Just looking at other team forums around the league it seems only the 'historically' worst franchises start a 'Looking Forward' thread this early in a season. Most of them have simply just given-up on any hope of winning, becoming relevant and others seem to believe in a 'Great Pumpkin' sort of thing.
Interesting...and sad.
How does it feel to win your 2nd Super Bowl after most people consistently counted your team out after the 1st one in the Super Dome?

Thanks for the fix. Got the pre-season Steelers prediction instead of the actual real-time record. The good thing that I really like about their early assessments is 'The Ravens beat the Steelers after their by-week....' thing. I'll take that Ravens win and nothing else afterwards for them.
These rivalry games are like my own personal holidays. Salivating. Can't wait.
Early predictions are so much fun. According to the NFL the Steelers have the 8th easiest schedule in the league and are 5-2 currently.
We're just a win away to sharing the division lead with a much harder schedule. GO Ravens!!!

He needs to take responsibility and start playing like a good QB.
Right now .he stinks.
Very true "stats don't lie.", but stats can sometimes be used to sell a personal point of view that gives only the narrative someone feels more strongly about. This simply questions - which stats are used to argue which narrative?
Based on the same data that the poster used - what's the narrative if these stats were not completely left-out?
Out of the 10 most sacked QBs this season:
https://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/sacks
This is not saying that things are great so far this season (just the opposite), but it definitely shows that several considerations can be evaluated and added to the lack of great QB play (i.e. - In the total team stats you don't see). This is just 'Real Talk'. Whether anyone supports Flacco or not you would have to admit there are several known and unknown factors in every scenario when it's related to 'team' sports.

Agreed. I just don't understand why adjustments weren't made. I wouldn't have been against draw plays, middle screens, shuffle passes to any holes 1-2 Oline had a slight advantage for even 3 yard gains. But, we didn't show any creativity or resolve in finding a weakness. More thought and finesse was critically needed. It's hard to win the wars up front without it. Our Oline didn't have a chance.
3 minutes ago, rmw10 said:Think the hard part about the run game today was that our OL was being absolutely destroyed by that impressive Jets front. I don't like abandoning the run game, but I feel like it at least has some rationale this week.
Even when the run game is being shutdown you still have to find a way to keep it in your scheme. In games like this it's not how much you gain - it's not letting their defense t-off on your Oline on every down until you can figure-out how to beat them with more balance.

In the fact that Cinci is not as good as in the past, we face Pittsburgh once without Big Ben. We have a good chance to win this division since it's the weakest it's been in a long time. If we don't win the division, then I think we have a realistic shot at the last wildcard. Remember, we don't need to be playing our best football now -- it's in December - January when it counts the most. After this bye week, we should get back quite a few of the vets -- I think on offense you need that emotional firecracker -- Steve Smith to keep the team focused. On Defense, I think we could realistically see a change at safety -- as Webb is just not the answer. When Mosley gets back that will shore up our middle.
Let's not lose hope -- this is still a division within our reach!
Thanks for this. I was thinking the same thing. 4-2 in this season in the AFC North could get you to the playoffs. Everyone is under-performing outside the division.
Has there ever been a game that we gained that many rushing yards? Seriously. How can you win like that?
The Good: Special Teams. The sad thing is if we could have gotten this week's performance in any of the previous losses we'd still be 4-3 even with this loss.
“The speed this kid has is incredible,” Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin said via NFL.com. “He can absolutely fly. Perriman reminds me a lot of Andre Johnson. When you start talking about money downs, no player made more plays on third and fourth downs than Perriman.”
Michael Irvin said.....? Game knows game. Can you hear me? Can you feel me. We gonna' be alright.
Whooooo.... Just thought I'd step in here for a minute. It's getting crazy out there.
I love my team win or loss the Ravens all day. Ok. I'm good. ![]()
Thank you. Keep this going or we won't be able to have this sanctuary and any inkling of levetity. It's needed.
What the article conveniently doesn't emphasize is:
The most interesting thing about the 'game breaking' play OBJ made is that it was the exact same route to he ran earlier when he got rocked and fumbled and mysteriously pulled-up lame after being embarrassed (Absolutely no sign of an injury after that play). Who was really injured? Jimmy Smith (play-maker). The guy who didn't allow him to even slightly look like a 'play-maker' while he was in. OBJ had one great game this season (unfortunately against us).
Yes, we need play-makers like any other team in the league, but would anyone consider Jacoby Jones a 'play-maker'? Wow, we won a Super Bowl with the plays he made that day. We have 11 play-makers on offense, defense and ST. When it's all said and done - don't believe the hype - just recognize.
GO Ravens!

Plus SSS hardly owned him, Ramsey was like glue on everybody he covered and the only reason I didn't like what he had to say after the game is because his team lost.
Ramsey will be a top 10 corner in the near future with the potential to be the best at some point. Height, speed, long arms, tackles like a safety, high football IQ. Kid is the total package, thought he was the best player in the draft back then and I still do now.
For the record I'm happy with the Stanley pick, it is a premium position. Just thought we dropped the ball by not dealing the picks to get the #1 overall talent in the entire draft floating around just a few picks ahead of us.
Couldn't find the video where SSS broke-down the plays where he and Jalen matched-up (approx.), Steve won the battle consistently. Here's a video where SSS 2 biggest receptions came against the rookie. You only have to watch the 1st 5 seconds and pause. You'll see his fellow Florida State Alum calling him out for a blown coverage on a simple man-to-man match-up against SSS. It happened to him again on another big reception later in the game. The stats are solid. He has the potential to be that guy. but a lot has to happen before he gets there (no bad injuries, attitude adjustment, etc.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARkAtMR1PKw
Agreed. Jalen has potential but let's face it, the only reason Jalen's being mentioned in this thread is because he's not currently injured and Stanley is. Think about it.
If you're happy with the Stanley pick - just be that. There are some that deal in an ultra-reality (what ifs...?). That's cool when it doesn't involve a player injury. As if it's a good and acceptable opportunity/hall pass to apathetically, callously de-humanize a man as if he's a robot. They have families, lives and hopes far beyond football. It's sad that on any injury immediately these threads pop-up like circling vultures at a supermarket parking lot when somebody just accidentally dropped some fish. Like that saying goes: "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts..."
Sorry for rant sflegend89. You seem to be pretty informative poster and above this kind of thread. Just wish others (so-called fans) would think before they make a topic when one of our players is trying to rehab back into action. Just check and see how many appear magically on any injury report. So glad the players don't read this...I regress.
If we're going to have compassion for Jalen (performance-wise) because he's 'just' a rookie - why not support the rookie we already have in better ways (Stanley - Our Rookie) as he recovers? Just saying.

shh, you just used facts.
Gtalk, you're good at that, too. Appreciated.
Yessssss! Fresh air!!! A very needed space in all the media static. Thanks.
There's little opportunity to view your team from a broader scoop instead of week to week in a microwave, social media minute - knee jerk ultra-reality. However, when looking at the game's history and launch of the Ravens football in particular (still one of the youngest franchises) you'll find that many fan bases would trade with us tomorrow if they could have 1/2 the success of this franchise. This includes:
1976 - Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1995 - Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars
1997 - Baltimore Ravens
Name one with 2 Super Bowl wins, name one with more playoff wins in the decade and name one wearing 'Black and Purple'...okay.
I'll still be a fan no matter what happens in the next minute.
LT are always the priority. In addition, after seeing Ramsey's post game interview after SSS basically owned him and his lack of humility to that point - let's say - I'm not a fan. Ramsey's current ranking among defensive backs #95 - Shareece Wright #68.
We're good.
5 minutes ago, K-Dog said:If the Steelers loose, and we win, we will face them after the bye tied for first.
That would make that game huge and quite significant. Since it always is a great game, I wonder if it will flex up.
Without a doubt. That will be the game.
The Good: We came to play and showed effort throughout proving 'next man up' works. Had we loss with a full compliment of our best players - then there's time for panic. Hated the results, but it was exciting to watch.
In hindsight after looking at that (4th and goal over and over again) series of events, that's how I want my Ravens to play with 2 shots that close. Make them stop you. Go hard. Harb did that. It was a great call by Marty and if not for some missing players (key injuries) and a few missed blocks - West walks in for the TD.
Untimely penalties did us in here. Nothing else. We looked a little less polished/experienced at times, because...we are and a lot of positions and fill-in roles. Yet, still out-performing teams in many critical stats (i.e. - less turnovers usually means a win). We almost had this one. We will get the next.

Absolutely agreed. With his will and high football IQ, we could be looking at a Mohamed Sanu-like production receiver from the slot. This is chess.
