Agreed Pitta stays. There is absolutely no doubt that Pitta will be back and be open to adjusting his contract to stay a Raven. Another reason is there is so much talent at the TE position coming out of college this year that will command less salary/gauranteed money that the market's supply and demand will dictate value.
Example - Projected to go 238th in 2014 Draft
2013 MACKEY AWARD WATCH LIST: Kaneakua Friel, BYU...One of 37 players named to the Mackey Award watch list, Friel had 30 receptions for 308 yards in 13 starts last season for BYU, averaging 10.3 yards per catch. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound native of Kaneohe, Hawai'i, was second on the team with five receiving touchdowns in 2012. - BYU football
This guy looks like a Jimmy Graham-type TE. We should be able to get one of these and keep (one of my favorites) Pitta.
We're at approximately $112M right now including the dead money. There is approximately $5-$6.5M to be saved through cuts, and there's also the potential extension of Suggs to lower his cap number. Either way, we're probably looking at $20M-ish to play with if the cap comes in at $126M.
Agreed. It looks like the Suggs' negotiations during his contract signing was designed specifically with this upcoming year's team needs in mind. I think the Ravens will be in great shape. The front office and player loyalty is sometimes underrated by outsiders, but Ravens get it done year after year.
With a couple cuts and a potential Suggs restructuring, we could get to about 100M. That provides us with quite a bit of room to work with.
With 125+ million cap and Ravens being projected to be at $107 million committed and possibly -$10 million after restructuring contracts really makes the possibility of seeing Jacoby and Pitta back in black and purple pretty reasonable...priceless.
Man, reflecting back, where would we be without Jacoby Jones just dating back to the playoffs last year? I do not think at all that we as Ravens fans would have the same state of jubilation without him.
Agreed. I don't even think this should come down to pitting (no pun intended) Pitta vs Jacoby. They both are bleed true purple and black, are great guys that give back to the community and will help to build this dynasty. The money is there (15 million available) and a leader in Joe that doesn't want to be without them and willing to adjust and delay salary in order to keep them. This is not a choice between two players. It's trust in 'the best franchise in the last 5 years' to build a dynasty.
I think the Ravens are up to this.
As a receiver, ill be the first to admit Jacoby's game needs a lot of work, but his value to this team as a returner, spark plug is irreplaceable. Hopefully we can come up with a deal thats fair for both sides and we can keep him around for a couple more years.
Agreed. I think it's very possible to secure Pitta, Jacoby and Monroe next season. We've got room to do so and a front office that can manage it. Found a good explanation.

There should be no question that the Ravens should resign Ed Reed. For anyone who thinks that he wasn't a key part of our Super Bowl run you only have to look at the 2012 stats (4 ints-3 fumble recoveries-49 tackles-4 assist). If anyone who thinks that he wasn't a team player just listen to the guys who played with him (particularly secondary stand-outs still on the team). They became better players. For anyone who thinks that he wouldn't be an inspirational lightning-rod that could spark our season for the fans just read the polls. For those who are convinced that his playing days are over and it's just not a good business decision for Oz and Harb just consider all of the statements before. We would only sacrifice less than 20% of his contract (nearly league minimum wage) to show loyalty to an honored Raven and reaffirmed to every player on the team and in the league that being a Raven means Family. I'd go the extra mile for that alone. Ask Ray Lewis should Ed be embraced for his final season. What would he say? Ed Reed needs to retire a Raven. We deserve that and he deserves that.

True. In 2012, Pitta was ranked between 5th-9th in most polls of Top Tight Ends (because of SB run). The salaries for these TE ranged from about 5 million to 500,000 respectively. By 2013, the salaries of top 10 TEs did range from 7-6 million. All this considered, Pitta unfortunately wasn't able to be a part of that salary boom for 2 reasons. 1) Although some had him high in the rankings based on his late season performance and QB comfort level - others saw his raw stats as 15th-20th at best. 2) His 'real' money contract wasn't going to be until 2014 and most scouts/prospectors sided with the more speedy/basketball/freak-like/speed-merchant TEs to build from than traditional pass catching TEs. Now it's 2013, add in the unfortunate injury severly minimizing his ability to solitify his true worth and an overstocked stable of (freak-like) 2014 college draft picks.
That being said, I feel Dennis is worth more than the 2 million he's getting, but I don't believe many teams will be willing to go as high as 6-7 million with only a 3rd of a season's work, the injury and doubts about if he'll do better without the QB comfort and scheme of the Ravens. With this in mind, Dennis Pitta will most likely sign another 1 year contract w/bonus incentives, play an entire season with his chemistry-established QB and team and compete at an high level before getting the max offers from other teams and (hopefully) the Ravens.
This is just my hope because I believe Heap guessed wrong along with others. Just ask Dallas. If you have chemistry where you are...that's priceless. If they can work with you to build something special as a franchise, then you work with them. That's how a dynasty is built. We should work to keep Pitta purple and black.
