You want to get 7s when you have momentum. You want to shorten the game so our defense doesn't get exhausted.
Yeah Trestman not impressive at all. Got that momentum and then run run run. SMH.
Oh geez!
What a dumb call!
Good D that time. Trestman something other than run run pass, please.
I guess the pre-season was a harbinger of things to come. Hate it when the coordinators have no answer.
Terrible play calling. Run run pass. So predictable! Trestman not passing the test by any means!
Typical Ravens play calling!
Now is the time to start adjusting on offense. Don't wait til it's too late.
Ravens are getting Tuckered! 56 & 57! Impressive!
Yeah, this won't be a good outcome. Nothing on offense.
Ravens fate in Denver will be decided by the WRs and secondary. If SSS is neutralized we will see what Aiken and the others really have. The preseason wasn't promising. The secondary is healthier and improved from last year. How improved will be the key. Peyton will surely give us the answer. I think Forsett has to get 100 yds and the TEs have to come up big for the Ravens to stay in the game and possibly win. Of course if Joe has his usual 1st road game woes, a win is unlikely. If you're a glass is half full person you can see the Ravens getting to and winning the SB. If you're a glass is half empty person you can see how the Ravens could get nudged out of the playoffs altogether. This will be an interesting season. Go Ravens.
I know it won't happen but isn't Nelson a carbon copy of Campanaro, shifty and quick slot receiver, but w/o the injuries? It would be a shame to hang onto Camp and see him injured every other game and cut someone who seemingly could fill the same role. All the WRs aside from SSS have disappointed this preseason. Aiken, Marlon, Camp, & Butler should've shined.
Does anyone know if the NFL critiques its officials after games? It's hard to imagine there is any critiquing of officials after watching the last two Ravens pre-season games. Many calls and non-calls are atrocious. If they do critique it must not be serious effort at all as improvement is nowhere to be seen.
Excellent point. This has been an issue for years. The team knows it has the best PK in the league which unfortunately creates less urgency and planning to finish off drives. They know the 3 points are in the bag and play that way. The mindset should be nothing is given which would create more urgency once the O is in scoring position.Harbaugh and the Ravens left points on the field again tonight, missing out on TDs and settling for FGs instead. Our short-yardage and red zone offense needs work. The first 4 regular season games will be a real learning experience.
Short yardage is another issue that's a consistent issue. One would think that with the maulers Ravens have on the Oline they would blow Dlines up, but they don't . Compounding the problem is the formation compressing everyone tight which allows the D to do the same resulting in a mass of humanity nearly impossible to move. Go 4 wide on short yardage. It spreads the D out and gives more options on play calls.
Ravens reserves are really bad. Also really bad has been the officiating, unbelievably bad. This game we had the hold on Juice and Aiken getting pile driven not called, the phantom flag on the Crockett TD and McGee clearly getting the first down but marked short.
As for the starters, we clearly have no WRs other than SSS. This will be a problem. Only hope will be the return of the injured Camp and Perriman. I was hoping Waller would shine this game but that didn't happen.
McGee has outplayed Allen in my opinion. Forsett fortunately looks ready to pick up from last year. Difficult to assess Oline as there has been too many injuries. No reason to think they won't be solid though.
As for the defense, I see the same things as last year. Pass defense will be a major issue and an inability to get turnovers. Suggs did have a nice INT tonight though.
The offense has to get a better TD / FG ratio with scoring drives. Ravens have Tucker which is great but getting 2 FGs and 1 TD in 3 scoring drives isn't going to win many games especially with this defense which is likely to get lit up quite frequently. Ravens need to reverse that to 2 TDs and 1 FG. Too many drives that stall out and end with FGs could hurt the Ravens. Realize points are points but if the Ravens are getting 3's and the opponents 7's it's not going to bode well.
Here's hoping the Oline is fully healthy for the season and the running game and TEs carry us until someone other than SSS steps up as a WR. The defense I'm just hoping is not worse than last year.
Couldn't agree more.Aiken, butler, brown are basically the same guy. Keep one of them.
Beyer has looked good in all these pre-season games, playing against 3's & 4's of course. The rest of our 3's & 4's and even 2's haven't impressed.
Couldn't agree more the officiating is atrocious and I'm not talking about questionable calls. Officials are missing blatant calls and making phantom calls. They even missed McGee clearly getting that 1st down.Either our coaches encourage fouls or these officials have some vendetta against us. These past two weeks have been awful officiating wise.
I don't like that the starters only got 1TD from their 3 scoring drives. Tucker is great and all but only getting 7 on a third of scoring drives is going to lose a lot of games. The offense has to be better. This game shows what getting TDs does. Skins 4 scoring drives, 4 TDs. The Ravens need that efficiency.Starting offense was shredding them. 17 points on 3 drives if we don't get screwed bu the refs on the Gilmore TD. Don't get worked up over the scout defense. Schaub is concerning and the corner depth is concerning but we were FAR more dominant starters vs starters than the scoreboard indicates.
Schaub is horrible. Get rid of the ball.
As much as I love Perriman's potential, I'm with those who say he's a bust and another 1st round WR disappointment. Could he actually come back and realize that potential? Sure, but what have we seen so far? He was injured and didn't participate in the combine. He got well and did the eye popping 40 at his pro day. He looks decent during non-contact OTAs and then is injured 1st day of contact practices. His past 4, 5 months doesn't offer much hope. I understand the optimists hoping this injury is a bump in the road and he'll be the #1 WR we've been coveting but his recent past is an indication or warning that might not be the case.
As for the WR corps without Perriman, unless Waller turns into a huge surprise, it's going to be difficult to watch. Aiken and Marlon we know do not get separation consistently. Camp is always injured. SSS will now be shutdown with bracket coverage. Trestman will have to rely on the young TEs who I think will be great. The run game will have to produce as well as swing passes to the RBs. Unless Perriman shows up or Waller surprises the WRs won't have much impact within the offense. It's going to be exciting to see how the Ravens offense works.
Have Aiken or Marlon shown they're that much better than Waller? I don't think so. Get Waller going with the 1's and see what he has. Waller with his measurables has a better shot at being a deep threat than Aiken or Marlon, IMO.
The game was horribly skewed by the penalties. About half were legitimate. The other half definitely bad calls. The first 3 Eagles scoring drives were aided by the bad calls. Refs have preseason to get rid of rust as well. I can't imagine an officiating crew being this bad in the regular season.
Flacco was bad tonight. Perhaps UDFAs being in the Oline hampered him. Also, not impressed with the WRs, not Aiken, not Brown and SSS was invisible. Preseason, so who knows how ineffective they really have been. Camp was missing. Does he make that big a difference? I know this Aiken the #2 hasn't shown anything in 2 games. If he starts the season as #2 this WR corps is in trouble. Someone else has to show up, Perriman, Waller, or a re-emerging Marlon.
The defense was hindered by the bad calls but It still doesn't look like a stout defense. The Dline was totally manhandled. The LBs and secondary have looked better than the Dline.
Generally, after watching the game a second time what sticks out prominently is the officiating. It was horrible and 1-sided against the Ravens. Above and beyond all the bad calls on defense, the tripping and tackle lining up in backfield on the offense were horrendous. So, the Ravens were bad, the officials were bad which helped the Eagles give the Ravens a big time whooping. It's preseason so let's move on to next week.
