  1. We should all hope Matt does really well for us, we'll enough that some team picks him up to be their starter next year and offers him big money. Why? Top shelf comp pick.

That's very true! Also, I'm going to root for Matt no matter what. He's a decent guy and he's been there for Joe all season long, I saw them conferring often on the sidelines while defense was on. He's been selfless and shared whatever experience and insights he's got. He's also kept hustling even knowing he'll never see the field on game day, because Joe is invincible (ha.ha.). I want him to be successful and do well. Because of the person he is, but also, because Ravens are a winning organization and tanking a season for a good draft pick isn't a winning mentality. As a team, you always have to believe you are the best guys to prove it and walk out on the field intending to do just that.

On the bright side, Matt is exactly as tall as Joe and exactly as heavy, they are very similar physically, so the snaps won't have to be readjusted ;)

  2. I only have one QB on my roster and that's Tom Brady and it's not looking good as he goes up against a Buffalo defense in Buffalo.

Some options on the market, Palmer, Tyrod, Kaepernick.

    Any suggestions?

I agree with what -Truth- said. I'd still start Brady. But if not him, of who you have named, I'd try Tyrod Taylor. I had him earlier this year and he performed decent. He can throw passes and he can scramble. He should also do quite well in the cold, although that is yet untested, because he did spend considerable time here in Baltimore and Ravens hold practices outside as well as inside at all times of year.

  3. I have an ethical dilemma at this point. I'm not sure whether to go with consequentialism or deontological. Should the ends justify the means (top 5 or #1 overall pick as the ends) or should the means justify the end (losing season)? I'm not sure whether to hope Schaub turns into pick-#1" Schaub or "playoff" Schaub because it means we'll have a chance.

Always go for hoping for a "playoff" caliber performance. Don't wish on anybody to suck, they have to live with that. And Ravens who have fought for every single game they play, regardless if they're unbeaten or have yet to win a game are the mentality that gets them through adversity other years as well. A lot of mental toughness is required and it's very difficult not get a loser attitude if nothing's going right. But it's far more difficult to regain faith in your team once you succumb to that.

That's why a top 10 pick is better than #1 pick. There's still brilliant players, but there's dignity in that. Look at Indy - They "Sucked for Luck" and now Luck sucks for them. Would you want to tank the season for a #1 pick that could turn into a bust or get injured and make no difference just like the next guy?

How many of those below were absolutely worth tanking a season for?

  4. Harbaugh is not a doctor. He did not diagnose Perriman's injury, and he is not qualified to do so. He was only telling us what the doctors told him. Fans should get over that already and stop judging him by a misdiagnosis that the doctors made, that he had nothing to do with, besides being the messenger.

But he WAS a special teams coach, so I'd have more trust in his assessment of what he saw of Tucker than what he expects players' recovery to be :)

PS: Sorry for the neg, I wanted to click the green one, but missed.

  5. Kaepernick: Thanks but no thanks. We'll bring in someone else. And if we couldn't, I'd rather see Koch give it a try.

Keenum: That was unbelievably stupid of his coaches. I'm no pro, but after Jernigan hit him and he fell to the ground, I shouted out loud "That's a concussion!" even before he tried to get up from the ground and looked like he downed a bottle of vodka on a stag do. When your QB is getting sacked, please don't tell me the automatic thing for all your coaches and teammates is anything other than seeing your QB get up and do a quick visual check if he's okay. The spotter has to see that. The officials has to see that. And the coach DEFINITELY has to see that! Unbelievably stupid and irresponsible. Players pumped with adrenaline and fighting for the win are not the best to self-evaluate their ability to keep on playing and there should be someone responsible do that for them. Their stupidity helped us win the game, I doubt Foles would have fumbled quite as easily (didn't Keenum trip?).

I liked what I saw from Mosley and some other defense guys last night. Both Brandon Williams and Timmy Jernigan looked well. I loved Jernigan winding people up :) We need a good defensive player with visible sass!

  6. I figured we will need this. We could start with his perceived strengths and weaknesses.

My concern is that we'll change the offense to be primarily run-oriented supplemented with quick short passes. IF that is successful, then we have to question why we would go forward with a strong-armed QB.

Hopefully not run-heavy, but rather more balanced than it was up to before the Rams game. We have seen that Buck Allen can carry us through the season with runs and Juice is able to help out well with the screens. Plus, we have West, though not sure what to expect of him.

From what I've read (I haven't been following football for all that long) Schaub used to be very good with quick short passes and that'd fit well with our tight end heavy offense and could work. I'm worried about the amount of interceptions he had in training camp and preseason, but maybe he'll surprise us all.

  7. The game was ugly, but in the end, they didn't lose it, we won it. It was Flacco's khutzpah and a great effort to rally, the turnovers we finally had go our way and the fact that towards the end of the game we steered clear of penalties that would shoot us in the foot. There were multiple players that played well on both ends of the ball. C.J. played like "DROY my hind quarters, Donald!" Finally, he's been all over the field. And one more thing I've noticed - Timmy Jernigan has the sass. If he can keep backing it up and avoid penalties, he's got a bit of a Sizzle attitude. Hopefully, he can perform on a consistent basis and then he'll be the guy we'll find entertaining in an endearing way and the rest of the league will love to hate. Did anyone else notice him winding people up? :D

  8. I've seen qb's come in like this and set the world on fire winning every game put in front of them. Who knows what will happen. Shaub has a lot to play for. He went out in Houston in a bad way and should be willing to prove his worth. I look forward to seeing him perform this coming week. Like most of these guys on the team. They are professionals who can perform or they wouldn't be there.

We also know that performance isn't just skill, but also the circumstances. Houston seems to be unforgiving to players or coaches who err, but the team in Baltimore is one team, one heart and regardless of how well or unwell Schaub has performed in the last two years, the guys will rally behind him and support him. It might be that it's all for nothing and we will lose out the season. But it might be, that it gives Schaub the confidence he needs to do his finest and the combination of pressure to perform and solidarity from players and organization makes him do well. I really hope it does. He's a good guy and deserves a chance to finish his career (eventually) on a less sour note than what he got in Houston and Oakland.

Let's see which Schaub walks on to the field Monday.

  9. Bryn Renner sounds like the most likely option. 1) He was decent in the preseason. 2) He knows the playbook and wouldn't have to start from scratch 3) He's young and could back up for a while to come, if he's decent enough. Joe Flacco is hardcore and I have the utmost respect for him.

With Schaub, it is possible Ravens will lose out, but I'll leave the doom and gloom for someone else. As they say, "Hope for sunshine, prepare for rain." Maybe now Trestmann will finally committ to the run game :D Buck Allen has shown that he can carry us, we have West on the roster and I have no idea what Mosert is like, but he showed some skill on the kick returns. Juice is a good option on screens, he's got good hands. Schaub used to be good with short yardage passes, so Gilmore and Williams become even more of an asset. I suppose, now we really won't see the explosive plays downfield. First, we didn't have the receivers to do it and now we have Givens we don't have the QB...

  10. Maybe we can get Pagano back as defensive coordinator and we can get the ball rolling again on defense. Things like this have to happen in order for teams to get better. Flacco will learn from this and come back stronger than ever. This gives us a chance to get some good draft picks in here on an already solid team. Keep those chins up high Raven Nation. WE WILL BE BACK!!!!.....AND IT WANT BE PRETTY. GO Ravens.

What exactly is it that you can learn from a torn ACL(+ maybe MCL)? Flacco has actually played rather well this season, all things considered.

  11. Yay Matt Schaub take us to a superbowl!! we still have it this year guys to make the rest of the year undefeated !! woohoo nothing could be going wrong with us at all this year!

Not sure whether this is optimism barring on denial or blaring sarcasm. I approve either way. If we were in AFC South we'd be probably be in the run for division leader :D

  12. Well, unfortunately this argument seems moot in certain places. Buck Allen has got a whole lot of looks today after Donald broke Forsett's arm. Luckily, he has done very well and we can be proud. Shame we don't have a young quarterback also, I'm not even sure we have a 3rd string or who he is behind Schaub. Lardarius Webb also walked off the field with some (hopefully minor) injury and I'm not sure if he got back in the game, but I think not. Young players will continue to play not by design, but by next man up, since we're getting to the point of there being no one else.

  13. If we're rating entertaining factor (as well as getting the job done and player safety), then for sure Will Hill and Lardarius Webb tackles are the most watchable. Hill for the WWE style and Lardarius Webb because he looks like a pouncing panther. Love to see the way Hill is developing as a player this year and also seeing that he got his life straight.

  14. He's versatile and has played very well this year. He's probably our most intelligent player in the backfield. Mixing things up can help us so I'd like to see him with increased snaps at safety, but as many of you said - if we do that, we still have a hole at corner. Regardless of what he says, I think when it comes right down to it, Webb will play whatever they ask him to, he's just making it clear corner is his preference. After all, he did restructure his contract and take less money last year, which wasn't even his contract year, to help the team out with all the dead money for Ngata and Rice.

  15. Awww... come on, give the guy a break.  It's his sons that he is coaching for.  Family First.  I give the guy credit.

Of course ;) It's just wishful thinking - he would be fantastic, because with Ed, it's not all just god-given natural skill, but so much effort he put into being as great as he was. He can't teach talent, but he can teach all the rest.

Of course I don't want to break little kiddies hearts!

  16. I still think Juszczyk is the unsung hero of the group. He does the dirty work of a FB, and half the time he also lines up as a tight end. Will he ever get any love?

I was also thinking the other day... one bad season can't possibly get football fans in Baltimore down. Maybe it's fitting that a crappy year is happening in our 20th anniversary. It gives us pause to remember things like Baltimore being the only city to have teams that have won Lombardis, Grey Cups, and USFL championships. It's almost Thanksgiving so we could reflect on the blessing of having a world class franchise to root for in our city and state. I think we grew accustomed to constant success due to the 5 year long story that was written leading up to our last Super Bowl, but we should remember that there were teams that featured Hall of Famers like Ray, Ed, Suggs, and Ngata in Baltimore that had losing seasons. We still stuck it out as fans.

If we survived being robbed of a team for 13 years, we can survive a year here or there of bad luck.

Juice is great! Not as featured as our TEs, as a FB he does more blocking than catching, but he can do that too and has made some impact plays for us this year. He can also line up as a TE and has some experience playing the position at school. I've said before, he's by a wide margin the most featured fullback in the league. Decent blocking skills, soft hands and when he can't avoid a hit, then his mindset is for the defense to hurt worse than he will. It's very visible and well appreciated.

Obviously, he has responsibilities of his own, but where a 3 TE set would be helpful, he can step in.
