  1. We need to draft a tackle in the top 3 rounds or find a gem later. Monroe isn't bad when he's on the field, but that's as rare a sighting as an albino buck deer. The protection from the outside of the OL on Sunday was atrocious and I don't care if they're protecting Matt Schaub or the ghost of Johnny Unitas, that can't happen. After all, Joe Flacco is also out because one of our tackles fell on him. Someone durable that can maul them the way Yanda and KO can do on the inside. I'd really really want Ravens to keep KO on the inside, if there's a way to do it that won't hurt us elsewhere. I suppose, having a nickname "Buck" is a good indication if someone is a stud. Both of ours are. Buck Allen got me 23 fantasy points and he was a joy to look at second game running. And Buck (Daryl) Smith is the top ranking defensive player for the Ravens from Sunday. He's getting slower in zone, but otherwise he's all over the place and a good tackler.

  2. Schaub needs to not throw INTs the same way no other QB needs to throw INTs for their team. However, he is not a bad QB. He's been making some epic throws for us these last two games as well, his chemistry with Chris Givens is impressive. Actually, he quite reminds me of Joe Flacco, being able to throw a bonehead play, but clear it up with the next opportunity. Also, to prevent pick6es, offense needs to know how to tackle. It sucks, you never want your QB to throw an interception, but you have to know how to handle when he does. Hope for sunshine, prepare for rain. Both the deflections - if the defense can make the play on that, our offense should have also been able to. And one more thing - we have to protect the QB way better than the OL did last night. Was that for real? Schaub looked by the punching bag and defense consistently got around the tackles to make hits. Not acceptable. Every player is accountable.

  3. Don't feel too bad Schaub, Flacco threw interceptions in 8 out of 10 games and they didn't say Flacco needs to stop it. You just have to cut back on the pick 6's, that's where y'all differ in that category.

I agree. Flacco has interceptions too, some of them on bonehead decisions, but we all support him through thick and thin. Throwing Schaub under the bus is a bit unfair, considering that he has been propelling our offense forward, despite very few starters being left on the field from the beginning of the season, especially the chemistry with Chris Givens is impressive, he has been making BIG plays with big yardage. No, he's not perfect and he has to work out the interceptions for sure. However, he hasn't been doing a bad job either.

  4. This was the most frustrating game for me yet. I hate to complain about the refs, because essentially, every team gets bad calls against them, but it seems to me, that those against the Ravens this year are game changers. Jacksonville 100%. Yesterday, who knows, but when you wipe 6 points off the board for a team for a BS call, then that's out of this world. Both offensively and defensively, we were the better team. We figured out the penalties and didn't get flagged for blatant stupidities, such as roughing the passer, late hit, unnecessary roughness etc as in the start of the season and I'm really really happy to see that. It sucks about Schaub's interceptions, but I have a hard time blaming the game on him. It wasn't that he threw the ball bad or in the wrong direction or miscommunication with the receiver, both were deflections. And if Schaub is responsible for throwing it, our offense is responsible for not catching the deflected ball when Miami defense did. Deflections aren't directional, it's the guys with better reflexes and execution that get that done. So don't throw anyone under the bus. And Tucker has to sort out his long-range issues. It's all the more disappointing because he DOES have the skill. Asking it of any other kicker, we'd be hoping for luck, but he's been making these kicks for us the past two seasons with pinpoint accuracy and we would rely on him almost 99% of the time, regardless of the weather.

  5. As seemless a transition from Ray Lewis as we could've hoped for imo. Great guy, great player with great instincts.

By the way, who was the other starting ILB next to Daryl Smith that year? Hard as I try, I can't remember. Was it a rotation of guys? I found Josh Bynes, Albert McClellan and Jameel McClain on the roster list, but can't remember which of them was the starter. I know it wasn't Arthur Brown, who was drafted that year.

  6. I have to agree.  I love Daryl Smith.  I did notice he hadn't been on the field as much lately.  But even when he still is, he is making an impact.  It's not like he's had a terrible year.  Slower?  Yes.  But still making tackles.  I do believe he will be exiting the game soon.  I always hate seeing that with certain players.   When they first picked him up, I thought about how bad Jacksonville is, and it was for that reason that I really watched him.  It didn't take long to realize he probably was one of the best defensive players on their team.  And yet I think they didn't want to pay him.  Mosley will do a good job at ILB to guide these guys.  He's already picking it up.  He does well with his leadership so far too.  He's just not the boisterous, over the top kind of guy.

You're right, he still is all over the place! I note when 51 or 57 make a tackle. Whatever Jacksonville was thinking when they let him go I don't know, he's a terrific player! I hope he has one more year in him. You're right about Mosley of course. There isn't anyone near as boisterous on the team as Ray Lewis was anyway. Daryl Smith is also rather laid back and inconspicuous.

  7. I love Daryl Smith, but I think this is the last or second to last season in football for him. He's a hard player, good tackler, smart, mentally quick, can stuff up holes, but too slow in space. I think his speed has deteriorated over the time he's been here and it's obvious in coverage. He's one of my favorites to cheer for on the defense, so I hope it's just a conditioning thing and he can come back niftier next season, but it's more likely it's time catching up. I'd rather see him retire than cut once he won't be up to par. On a bright note, Orr has looked pretty well.

  8. Sorry but my Ohio St Buckeyes beat the brakes off "that school up north"! I like Maryland they played Ohio St very well and maybe DJ will take them to another level but that yellow hurts my eyes like looking at squeelers on our site!

Ai! Don't remind me! Michigan had three consecutive shutout games this year, their defense was phenomenal and then they succumb to Buckeyes so bad! I know Bosa and Ruddock are friends, but he didn't have to hug him quite so hard :D

If Michigan defense was the work of Durkin, then Maryland are in good hands and I'm worried for my Maize and Blue.

  9. Browns had their 15 minutes of fame in outcome predictions. Ravens won. All is right in the world. As much as some of the games this year are unwatchable (penalties, unleveraged opportunities, etc) they are completely watchable. We haven't won OR lost a game by more than one score all year. You can't leave early absolutely knowing the outcome. Love the guts the team has. Also, best special teams! 5 consecutive games with a blocked FG. How ratchet is that?!

  10. The first half, Schaub looked very good, making good decisions and moving the ball. The big play to Chris Givens is the one that stands out in particular in my mind. Also, both offensive TDs were off a pass, one to Buck Allen and then another to Kamar Aiken in the second half. I'd say, Schaub has what it takes to put points on the board and if he can replicate H1 in the other games, he'll got what it takes to be a starter in the NFL. The pick six and another interception are disappointing and he has a rep, on the other hand, 2 picks aren't something Flacco wouldn't do on occasion either. He make an immediate comeback with a touchdown drive, which is important, because he didn't crumble after a fail. Let's cut him some slack and stand behind him. It's obvious that the trust from the organization and teammates helped him do the good things.

  11. It was a 2:30 AM game for me so unfortunately I only saw the first half, but that one looked good. Obviously, Schaub threw two interceptions in the second half, but the first half it was a sight for sore eyes watching the game. A punt return for a touchdown, the following offensive drive a scoring one, where Schaub threw a long one to Givens and moved us across the field, Allen performing like a legitimate starter in his own right, C. J. Mosley, Webby and Will Hill all over the place and only one flag thrown for the Ravens.

I saw the highlights, second half looked like more of a nail biter, but what a win!!! That's a good NFL premiere for Brent Urban. I'm glad we kept him on the roster and on PUP this year, despite not being healthy for so long. And Will Hill is a monster!!!

  12. We all wonder about Matt Schaub, but I hope he does well. Whether we can bring down the penalties is the big thing. And I wonder how our ILBs will do against Gary Barnige. Last time it was the TEs that picked us apart. As stud as both D. Smith and C.J. Mosley can be, they got torched by the TE position last time. Also, I want to know how Arthur Brown and Zach Orr will fare. Is either of them someone to consider in Ravens future?

  13. What if Shaub shines and wins every game? How will management handle that, if it happens when Joe comes back next season? That's a problem I'd like to see.

That would actually be quite awesome, because then Matt Schaub would have a future, and the guy is a good guy and I'd wish him that. But he'd also be out of our price range and become an FA, that hopefully gets picked up elsewhere and we'd get a compensatory pick for him. Based on the play of our players this year. Can't remember how many good players are in their contract year right now, but Ozzie typically does well with the comps when he has them. Tucker, Osmele, Upshaw... anybody else of note?

  14. Let's be generous and be happy for the Browns 15 minutes of fame. When have they EVER been a favorite to win the day's match-up? :D

The "is there a point to try win a game?" comments irk me to no end. I don't want to see the #1 draft pick by far as much as I want to see the Ravens on the field give it their best to win a game. Being realistic, there's not much hope of having many (if any) wins down the line this season, but it'd be tough to root for quitters. This is why I love Harbs. I'm sure he's aware that Ravens record is what it is, their roster is what it is, but if he walks around dejected, it'll be the beginning of the end. You've got to have faith.

To be fair, if the O-line holds, if we can commit to the ground game and Buck Allen shows what he did last week or better and if Schaub is good at completing quick short passes, there's a chance we put some score on the board. Juice could get a TD, that would feel good, as unlikely as it is. Browns are aware of him being a versatile weapon, not just a blocker. However, they can't cover Aiken, Juice and the three TEs all at the same time all the time.

Defensively, secondary are doing better than in the last match-up. If we can finally limit the number of defensive penalties, then the biggest scare is Browns' TE that our ILBs struggled to cover. Browns'll score, but maybe not too often.

  15. I suppose there won't be a lot of Hail Mary's coming up, but if we can get quick release passes to our TE's, Juice, WRs etc and move consistently forwards, that's fine by me. Explosive plays are fun and I'd love to see them (my hopes are high with Buck Allen on this one), but cutting away with 4 yards on each snap is good enough for me and exhausting for the defenses more than anything else, so if that happens, I'm fine with it.
