Like Grim said, Walker isn't up to date with NFL offenses, and Wright and Arrington know about reading the QB and NFL routes. That's not anything against Walkers skill, that's just the way it is. This is very typical with many NFL CBs taken mid-late rounds who are developmental prospects. Throwing him a fire is not ideal. Granted, he could benefit from a couple of reps, but you shouldn't start him.
nope. we drafted him 4th round. he should be ready to go if called upon. we signed him to a 2.6 mill dollar contract. he was a bad draft pick. he cant cut it in the NFL, the ravens got desperate and signed a bum off the street. simple as that.
Well, because you don't want to just throw a guy out there who has no idea what he is doing yet. He needs experience, 100% agreed, but that doesn't make him the best option because others are struggling. These guys know NFL offenses even if they're not that good.
Let me ask you a question: who are you going to go see, a lawyer who may not be that great but he's average or a brand new lawyer who just graduated law school from Goucher? Don't read into things too much here, please.
that is a terrible comparison. a lawyer who represents one person intellectually compared to a piece of a puzzle that contributes to an entire collaborated team physically is so contradicting its insane.
signing wright (and givens) who were both bums and 4th string benched players to this team only to throw them on the field right away ahead of recent invested drafted players just shows the desperation of this organization. this management firm of the ravens has folded their cards after week 2 and it just reeks of incompetence.
Exactly, bringing in the shrice or whatever his name is guy was crazy IMO, he's been cut by two teams and what's even crazier is that we signed him less than ONE WEEK before playing the team HE JUST LEFT so the other team knows EVERYTHING about him. Meanwhile, your draft pick is just sitting.
And the sad thing is, we'll probably draft a bum AGAIN instead of taking the best DB available.
I miss when we knew what we were doing.
sigh, what happened to our team bro
Been saying it for weeks, Walker sucks
yes, we all know he "sucks". but we drafted him in the 4th round and went into the game 1-4.. at this point we need to start developing our young players. no point in saying they "suck" at this point. the whole team sucks. why bring in a street bum and start him 3 days later when we have young bucks that need to develop for the future, who the organization has already invested in.
just further proves the incompetence and desperation in the organization this year, and how poorly management has been drafting the past few seasons.
Bengals, packers, patriots, jaguars, seahawks, steelers,Vikings, raiders, cowboys, cardinals to name some teams that have drafted far better than the ravens recently. Some of these teams the young talent has not yet translated to playoffs yet. Like the raiders and jags. But give them time the talent is there and gaining confidence. Their young talent is playing better and better while ravens fans are making excuses for young players such as fat maxx.
maxx is looking pudgy out there on the field
where was trey walker in this game? he shouldve been in there instead of some bum off the street
Ya' know JO... I would say that this stuff does make it to the Castle... No doubt in my mind. It just seem awful funny how things that come up here make their way to the pressers.
And, yes, Steve shut it down, (not literally of course) by answering any question that any of us had about the topic.
i just heard tonight some reputable (but cant remember name) worker out of cbs sports was talking about reading the forum today on 105.7 the fan.
mainly talked about the reaction to carson palmer throwing for 800 yds against us in the cardinals thread, but still cool he mentioned this forum on talk radio.
did anyone actually think he WANTED to be traded? smh.
True.... and two dropped endzone passes by Smitty... but I don't place blame on any one particular play or player. We shouldn't have been in those positions to begin with. Putting up between 20 and 30 points per game, with our receiving corps should show people just how good we could be with the right pieces in place. That being said. It just goes back to... Defense wins games/championships.... If you can't stop the opposition, then in our situation you gotta put up more than 30 - 40 points.
good point on the smitty drops. it seems like we can never get over the hump with TD drops. another poor showing of execution.
sigh, i feel so bad for flacco. his numbers should be doubled at this point in his career but years of abuse from his WR/TEs continue to make the whole "elite" debate so tiresome lol.
Some of the replacement players we're using especially in the secondary are the determining factors when it comes to those 3 - 5 points....
thats when the excuses come in. flacco and company had the chance to come back at the end but failed miserably. mainly due to poor timeout usage earlier in the half, poor clock management at the end, lack of hustle, etc. we can continue to play the "if" game by saying tucker shouldve made that field goal, then all we need was a field goal that last drive. but its the fields fault there was holes in it. and "we have injuries". every single team has injuries.
where was help over the top that play we put a bum off the street one on one with one of the most notorious burners in the league? point being, no excuses. its lack of execution and poor coaching.
No doubt the Ravens have been snakebitten with injuries this season that they have failed to overcome up to this point.
sure, just like every NFL team every single year, we have some injuries.
but when we are within 3-5 points every single game, and have a chance to win last minute but are completely oblivious to the clock, refuse to spike the ball, refuse to hustle to the line of scrimmage.. that has nothing to do with injuries. and thats just one example. i could go on for paragraphs. saying we have failed at this point due to injury is completely inexcusable.
All the great teams in the NFL have their "Leader" behind them that hypes them up. There are plenty of talented teams that simply dont have that fire behind them and they lose, Hence the Lions. Great talent...poor leadership.
90% of the reason the lions are doing poorly is because their coaching staff. id say we are right around that same figure, maybe more like 75-80% because we have a lot more holes at key positions.
but like ive been saying since week 1. its a coaching problem. our management is doing a poor job finding talent and our coaching staff is under utilizing the little talent we do have in the play calling. theres a constraint somewhere between the management and the coaching staff. and some people need to be replaced asap and get someone fresh in here that will get the job done right. whether its dean pees, marc trestman, secondary coach, WR coach, strength coach, someone in management, scouting.. something needs to be done differently.
ravens pull off the win
ravens: 30
cardinals: 20
besides Suggs, our injury problem is blown way out of proportion. its mainly lack of talent and coaching staff.
After reading this whole thread, I'm glad some people saw Ray's comments for what they were. An personal ego stroke with slight delusions of grandeur. Some sort of leader isn't what's missing from the team. Actual healthy bodies and talent is what's missing, especially from the defense.
Ray and Ed were here in 2002 when the defense sucked after the salary cap purge and lacked additional talent. 7-9 with his leadership
Ray, Ed, and Terrell were here in 2005 when the defense was meh. 6-10 with their leadership.
Ray, Ed, Terrell, and Haloti were here in 2007 when the defense was very injured and could barely stop anyone on the way to 9 straight losses. 6-10 with their leadership.
Maybe, just maybe, Ray could have focused on the real problem that is lack of talent, injuries, and no real pass rush unless we're sending the house on defense. And the abysmal #2 and #3 WRs on the team with an o-line that has random mental lapses. You can have a Ray Lewis type of player on defense moving people around all day and telling them their jobs, but when they miss a tackle then what? When they get beat by a double move knowing they are the last line of pass defense, then what?
^^^ this. people quickly forget that under "rays leadership" we were a losing team/ missed the playoffs 8 out of the 17 seasons he played for us. and 5 out of the 9 seasons when we made it to the playoffs, flacco was our QB. and we also had ed reed, terrell suggs, haloti gnata, ray rice, boldin, a healthy pitta etc.
i love the guy and all, but come on people. hes just one man. a mortal human being, just like the rest of us. hes never playing football for the ravens again, get over it.
Get vocal in practice, in meetings, in games, put a premium on personal accountability. Demand more from his teammates, challenge guys to get better and put in extra work, make sure everybody is sharp instead of just hoping for the best on gameday. Go out of your way to establish relationships with guys on the offense so you are on the same page when it matters and you aren't uncomfortable ripping them if they aren't doing their job or pulling their weight.
As much as I despise Tom Brady that guy knows how to lead, he doesn't mince words or sit back with a blank look on his face when the season is crumbling right in front of his eyes. He's going to call guys out, he's going to even call his OC out if it's a legitimate gripe, he's going to call himself out and get locked in when he makes a mistake. There is a level of intensity and personal accountability that Brady brings to his team that Joe flat out doesn't, Brady isn't any more talented or intelligent than Joe, he just plays the game with more focus and purpose and it extends onto his teammates who reciprocate that type of effort.
i stopped reading after the first two sentences due to your lack of credibility as a poster on a forum compared to an actual teammate of flacco. firstly, you have absolutely no idea how vocal flacco is with his teammates at practice, locker room, and on the field. secondly, i personally heard flacco talk about pumping confidence into his receivers via press conference after week 3 or 4. but he can only talk them up so much until its just a flat out lack of talent issue, which is exactly what it is.
he can't and shouldn't be anything other than himself.
seriously. forcing someone to veer away from their identity in a profession that utilizes talent directly correlated from personality is simply nonsensical.
It's pretty elementary... You're correct. and the fact that we are putting up enough points to win games, Joe is not the problem. Did he make a couple boneheaded plays, yes... the problem is that we are "allowing" even more than we're scoring..
yup, our horrible defense masks the fact we are a top 10 offense after 6 weeks. which is rare.
Man do I think we are overcomplicating this. Baltimore has a leader. Several of them. Harbaugh, Flacco and Suggs are all leaders on the field and in the locker room.
Yes Ray was the leader here for so many years. But also during those years we missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons, had a 5-11 season, had some not-so great defenses, lost 9 straight games etc etc.. Since Ray retired we've been..
8-8 (with a chance to make the playoffs during the last week of the season)
10-6 (knocking off Pitt in the playoffs and taking New England to the very end)
1-5
It's a rebuilding season. Ozzie made some moves that backfired and we've had some injuries that we couldn't properly overcome. Every loss has been a close game. We aren't getting blown out week in and week out. Some changes need to be made and we'll be back. Flacco needs talent around him to take this team far, just like every QB does.
that last sentence is it. yes, we have a bad defense.. but if you look at peyton mannings, tom bradys, aaron rodgers, ben roethlisbergers, etc WR/TE roster, they have soild playmakers. you give Flacco a WR core like demaryius thomas and emmanuel sanders, or antonio brown and martavis bryant.. even a WR like brandon marshall or larry fitzgerald. he would be blowing up defenses.
look at what he did with pitta, boldin, and smith. hes proven to be a great QB with solid weapons. this is becoming more and more a passing league, yet our organization simply fails year in and year out to supply flacco with weapons. its getting quite ridiculous
Flacco needs to become a leader, the quiet personality type is such a cop out, you're the big dog, you're the SB MVP, this is YOUR team, it's time he steps up and embraces his role as the unquestioned leader of the team (the offense at the very least) or things aren't going to get better.
this is such a tired, played out assumption. Flacco isnt going to change his entire personality and become this great leader. he needs to just be himself and show up on sundays. joe cool, thats who he is.
imagine him pulling a drew brees or ray lewis "who let the dogs out" chant in the middle of a circle of players before a game. that would be a c'mon man moment. not happening.
what ray is saying, is that we need to draft joey bosa
we got our work cut out for us this offseason
Can't believe they lost to the Steelers and Landry Jones at QB. They'll likely be riled up coming into next week. Better keep an eye out on John Brown. Toasted the Pittsburgh secondary this week.
all of the cardinals WR's and offensive players will burn our secondary. fitzgerald, brown, floyd, johnson, arrington, gresham, etc. all of them will burn us for the full 60 minutes.
that last drive clock management was absolutely atrocious. fire all the coaches and cut all the players asap.
its like this team doesnt even want to win.

yeah pretty much the only way this season wont be a COMPLETE waste is if we capitalize a late season run, because 6 / 9 of the final games after monday night will be at M&T bank stadium. this is the only glimmer of hope. but if we lose tomorrow all bets are off. and i truly think we have a chance at upsetting the cards if we simply just play balls to the wall yet disciplined football and finish the game, because we'll be in it for the full 60 minutes for sure.
i think the most realistic scenario and the only way to stay "entertained" as a fan base is watching the young guys develop, perriman coming back, and possibly knocking a team or two out of playoff contention. would be awesome to sweep the steelers (with big ben starting) and crush their playoff hopes.
other then that, dont see much else happening so far as playoff run at this point. but ill admit if we beat AZ, after how bad the chargers looked today we may have a chance going into the bye 3-5 which could be HUGE for that late season run. only time will tell. im still tuning in every week and will continue to do so until week 17 regardless.
