Like many here I am old school. If the reliability of the PAT is too boring then whey don't we just change the value of a TD to 7 and forget the kick.
On the other hand if you want to innovate in this aspect of the game then please be more imaginative than merely moving the ball back 13 yards where it still is a near certainty that the one point will be made. In other posts I have already suggested other more entertaining things one can do for the point. As long as you have decided to make some changes make some big ones. Come on guys (owners), you can do better than this!!!
OK, here's another idea. After the TD the kickers from each team line up at the 50 yard line to take free kicks (this means the only people on the field are the kickers and their holders). The defending team kicks first. If their kick succeeds the extra point is denied. Then the offense kicks. If their kick succeeds they get one point. If they fail the defense again tries to prevent the extra point. This continues until one side succeeds and the offense either gets a point or not.
Let's hear from some of the rest of you on ideas to put some interest into the PAT.
It started out as an LOL comment. (I keep forgetting that on this forum you have to include the LOL acronym for those less familiar with satire or humorous exaggeration) But then after I thought about it a while after I had posted it I began to like the idea of watching somebody trying to knock a ball out of the air. You must admit it is more interesting than watching an event more predictable than grass growing. The shotgun part I agree is a bit much for the football crowd. Maybe hockey or MMA fans would be more interested in that aspect.
I have a more interesting idea for the boring PAT problem. When a team lines up for the PAT in the usual position have the opposing QB on the sideline with another football. When the game football is kicked the QB will throw his football, trying to hit the game football before it goes through the uprights and knock it off course. Sort of like hunting quail or grouse. I originally imagined using a shotgun loaded with birdshot but I thought that might be hard on balls, not to mention fans seated opposite the man with the shotgun. But then I guess they could always sell those seats at a discount.
I see what you mean and I like the move to bigger receivers too. But then I look at SSS and how his fighting attitude makes him a foot taller. I like that old saying "it's not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog". If the bigger players are also fighters like Anquan Boldin was then I'm all for them. He was so combative for the ball that they said of him "he was open even when he was covered".
I know the age numbers for SSS seem to imply you are probably right but boy he sure doesn't play like it. The way he played last year you'd have thought he was in the middle of his career and not near the end. Now that he's on a team whose attitude he really likes and feels like he belongs in I think mentally he could play for years. And so far his body is not showing any wear and tear. I hope we have him for years to come just because it's fun to watch how full of pepper he can get in a game. Keep going SSS. It's fun to watch you on the field on Sundays, even if we don't win every game.
I think the greatest punishment for Brady, assuming he really is guilty, is for the rival fans at all the Patriot's away games to bring in flattened footballs to the game and hold them prominently for the media to see.
Did you get this right, Sarah? I went to the NFL website and found the following ratings:
Steelers 7
Bengals 10
Ravens 13
You might have transposed Steelers and Ravens rankings???
I think I like the way Joe keeps his priorities straight. The draft picks will be there when he gets a chance to concentrate on them. Three little rug-rats - not so much!
And remember Joe F, when he misses, tends to throw high, not low. If they can coach up this guy with his other weak spots he should be a natural for the kind of QB Joe tends to be. Will be fun watching this WR progress during training camp.
It is interesting to see how contributers in this forum seem to divide into fans for offense or defense. Well, defense or offense, we're all Raven's fans. At least most of us are!?!?
