  1. There are a lot of what ifs. Good teams finish games. Remeber when we used to blow out the bad teams and sometimes even the good ones? That was because our defense was always on attack mode and we had playmakers that believed it was their job to win the game. We also had a Offensive Coordinator that went for the kill shot. I think this team is setting itself up for a solid 2016, but Ozzie and Harbaugh did not have them ready to make it through 2015 on top, and we still need more defensive playmakers to get there. PS: Injuries happen to everyone, every year. Bad calls go against teams every year. Great teams overcome adversity, and the 2015 Ravens were just mediocre even if you take out all the bad breaks. I'm not calling for Ozzie's head. I am saying he needs to hit on his 1st and 2nd day picks more often than has been in the last 5 years. You can't deny that we have been drafting less pro bowlers under Harbaugh than under Billick. That is a fact.

I agree but what I believe happened was we didn't have game breakers we didn't have a Torrey smith an effective running game to set up anything this year... I think if its one thing we have learned was going into the year, at least I thought and I believe some of the team thought that with the west coast system we had we didn't need home run hitters... We relied too much on our oline and running game... We didn't have solid depth behind those either... I know team are supposed to overcome obstacles but I mean you have to admit we went through a LOT this year and I'm not sure any other team could have done more with what we were given

  2. its easy to tell players to jump routes when you have the greatest safety ever playing centre field.

its borderline insane if you tell your players to that when you have with all due respect kendrick lewis there or a not that range having will hill.

i dont think some of you guys understand how talents like ed and reed can dictate what you can do and not having guys like that can limit you.

you need players with a high football IQ to do certain things.

And I see where your coming from but I mean thrill its not like he doesn't have range

  3. im sorry but you say want us to get beat deep?

a coach telling his players dont get beat deep seems like a very good thing to me.

im quite sure every DC in the league put emphasis on that lol.

But we get beat deep anyway... thats the thing and if we arent getting beat deep the opposition is drawing a PI on us

  4. Don't overreact. The Bengals are still the Bungles in my eyes. Yes they've won a few games, but they are still the lowly Bengals. Any team with 10 yrs of picking in the top 10 is going to be laden with talent, but what have they really done with any of that talent? Nada, Zilch when it time to play meaningful playoff games. No, I still think the Ravens and the Steelers are the bullies of the AFC North and they will continue to be till the Bungles actually win the SB (which I'll never see in my lifetime and I'm no Woodley either!)

They wont be respected by me until they have at least gave up a fight in the playoffs im talking have a powerhouse on the ropes reach the afc championship at least... Us and the steelers weve been through meaningful wars... won afc championships won superbowls... what have the bengals done in the last 25 years?

  5. So why did we have a losing record with Suggs, Flacco, Smith? But we pay Webby and Smith the big money? Great pass rushers sure do make CB's look better. There has been a lot of poor cap management with backload contracts and the failure to cut guys loose. Throw in the fact that we have missed on several top picks (Rounds 1-3) ever since we landed Gold in the Flacco Rice draft and you have a team in rebuilding mode in 2015.

Well first of all suggs played a half of the opening day so we never really held a losing record under him... secondly We started out with no continuity under the o-line when eugene got hurt the third play of our season... Wagner and jimmy have been hurt all season, which in turn caused trestman to have no faith in our run game. We all knew even if healthy going 3-4 wasnt all too bad of a stretch considering how rigorous of a schedule we were facing... never mind all the injuries and officiating that have not bounced our way this year. Those first 9 games I would say if one simple thing bounced our way we win those games... in denver if steve catches the ball while he was wide open in the end zone we win... in oakland if will hill doesnt get flagged on some iffy PI call and his int stands or if trestman doesnt decide to throw the ball out of nowhere down in the redzone on our final drive we win... We all know about jacksonville. Cinncinati is one of those games we truly lost... in cleveland if barnidge doesnt catch the ball with his feet we win... in SF if jimmy doesnt get flagged on a phantom holding call we in all likelihood win that game... if some ref doesnt make a terrible OPI call in miami we win that game... If we are healthy and get 50% of those scenarios to bounce our way were in the playoffs and we all know what type of magic happens for us in the playoffs... and to the cap point... we have just had a sizeable amount of misfortune take it however you want it i dont care... We sign justin to a three year 9 million dollar deal... GREAT value... we get elvis dumervil for 5-35 i believe great deal... we snag BWill in the third round we get CJ mosley Jimmy smith Timmy jernigan KO Crockett Maxx... daryl smith i believe for like 4-12... chris canty 2-6... will hill has been a TREMENDOUS success k lew* 3-9 (you might be one of his doubters so I will throw an *asterisk by him) steve 3-15 great value kamar as a tendered deal... Now I mean im not just about to sit up here though and not acknowledge that we have missed on people like Dennis in what I thought was a terrible deal... eugene was just bad luck but has been solid when out there on the field matt elam courtney to an extent art sergio mount cody jah reid Kyle we did a 3-9 on him I believe... the whole ray rice scenario was just so unfortunate... Matt schaub I really dont know the thought process behind that one... but i mean look at what we have picked up from the late rounds or the street... Rick wagner john urschel jensen looks like he is starting to come on... kamar jeremy butler is starting to look solid... we found a backup quarterback the other week for next year off the street... terrance west buck nick boyle... zadarius juice.... Ill tell you one thing I wouldnt want anyone else over ozzie for the general manager job right now than him

  6. McPhee has play wrecking ability and could play DE, DT, and OLB depending on the down and distance. He could defend the run, but also get after the QB better than just about anyone on this team EX Suggs who is aging. And Doom is not ideal in run support (aka situational). Brandon Williams is a beast as well, but he isn't really the guy to get it done in passing situations either. This is a passing league. You can't just stop the run and make teams one dimensional anymore. You need guys that force QB's to make mistakes. I think Zadarius shows great potential and is starting to make an impact as he is getting in to NFL shape. If you look at him, he looks almost 20 lbs heavier than when he came in, but we asked a 4th Round Rookie to fill the void of an impact player that played all over the field and made work for Suggs and Doom even easier. Going into this season with that pretty much destroyed our year. Yeah, if Suggs had a full season we would have had better performances, but remember when we were getting torched in the preseason by mediocre offenses and scratching our heads/saying that we were not giving our all because its the preseason? Suggs wasn't enough to keep this defense from unraveling, it was only a matter of time. We were never contenders with the personel we started the season with, and that is where I am coming from.

Ehhh i dont know about all that i thought if healthy we were a solid pick to at least go really deep in the playoffs if not all the way to the big game. But like i said he was going to maximize his salary and PT combined and were we ready to pay a role player more than at least 40 million who had been injury prone who besides a solid rookie year had one year of solid production... There are some players that we just cant hang on too

  7. Been thinking about this pretty much all season.  I actually think it's quite doable all with the addition of a few players.  I think it's definitely possible that Mosely could play an Outside Linebacker (strong side) role, and I think 1 of either Orr or Arthur Brown would play weakside.  If not, finding a weakside linebacker is probably the the easiest to find in the draft.

I think at this point in his career, Suggs might actually be better off in a 4-3 role because his two strong-suits are rushing the passer and stopping the run... we haven't seen him drop into coverage much at all in the last few years.  It could also mean slightly less double teams for Suggs having 1 extra man on the line.  Dumervil has already played in a 4-3 in his career so I don't think that's really a question.

If Bosa is the best player available when we're on the board, we take him and start the switch to a 4-3.

Bosa can drop into coverage too every now and then so he could fit he's smart in not over pursuing the backside as an edge setter... I believe he could fit into this system and philosophy very well if we decide to keep it in the off season... I know we have already ran some 4-3 with cj Daryl and Zach and we look comfortable and we have also lined as you said cj at the Sam side and has been productive. So I see where your going with the idea.

Here's a fun fact that I found comical: according to NFL.com, here's where we are in the rankings of defensive passing yards in comparison to the rest of the AFC North.

    Ravens: 242.3 (15th)

    Bengals: 244.1 (18th)

    Browns: 252.9 (22nd)

    Steelers: 279.1 (31st)

    Lol. Go figure, right?

I only look at yard stats just to feel a sense of pride in the way our defense plays... I hardly ever go on nfl.com to look up useful info... Because its filled with fantasy guys who think they know everything... They talk about us having the worst pass defense in the league and that is just falsified. First of all i doubt they know who shareece wright k lew or will hill do. I think all they know about is jimmy and lardarius off name and they say guys like marcus peters is a lockdown corner... Just a bunch of guys who never played the game looking off stats. Thats what all the big networks do.

Yes, that's called a "nickel defense." And yes, even 3-4 teams tend to run the nickel with the four man front. Typically, they pull the nose out and put in the fifth DB.

And sometimes we will keep b will in our 4-3 defense in pass rush situations in the middle and he is always clogging 2 guys thats what gave guys like timmy and zadarius like 3 or 4 sacks last game bedause they get 1 on 1s all the time when b wills in

An NFL defensive coordinator with a Super Bowl ring and a top ten defense doesn't know how to use the nickel defense? Is that what you're telling me? Because that is one of the most inane, ridiculous, nonsensical, baseless, idiotic, asinine comments I've ever read on this message board. With that, I am no longer interested in this discussion.

He doesn't let our players play... THATS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH DEAN PEES. You can talk ALL you want about what he's accomplished but ever since he got here all he does is say don't get beat deep... So he curls up in his little shell calls cover 3 off no matter if its third or 4th and one and keeps our darn defense on the field... I remember last weeks wired that made the whole point of why we hate dean... Zach orr was covering someone in zone and the ball came to his man which he was two yards away from... He said he did not want to pick it off because he did not want to get beat.... THAT IS WHY WE ARE STILL ON THE FIELD the only players who ever want to grab a dang ball is jimmy and lardarius and jimmy just can't catch so that's one out of the two gone and the only reason why Daryl ever catches anything is when they throw it right too him as if he was the receiver.

  8. It's a figure of speech. It can be argued until we're blue in the face. Buts reality is that the league continues to evolve into a pass happy one and keeping up in that trend would lead to changes. To not grasp that concept is mistake and only solidifies itself with lack and consistency and production.Ever thought that the shortened stints on offense leads to higher probability of injuries on defense ? And vice versa.  Attempts to debunk the notion is fool hardy. No one knows anyone until you prove yourself. Martavis Bryant wasn't a known commodity until he excelled in the craft. Antonio Brown, either. But now teams have to scheme for them and any other productive receiver. To ignore problems doesn't make anyone a greater of a fan. I love myself but realize I'm prone to a few mistakes and theres room for improvement. Should I tell myself It's normal or make the proper adjustments not repeat ? And bye the way most NFL players don't admit fear and would probably equate it to respect of opponents skill set. And sure the receivers inserted have played better these last few games. It would a pleasure to see it more going forward.

Good point and to Bryant as I recall he fell some spots in the draft to some off the field concerns I got no clue on and don't want to know because quite frankly he's a Steeler and I shouldn't care... I'm not saying that oz should ignore our wide receiver situation and when we have weaknesses he is a bull on getting good talent the following year. We were terrible on the oline during the 2013 season then look at our oline in 2014... When pitta (still is) hurt and OD left last year we went in on our tight end position and now it is a huge strength on our team... The thing is though is that we have a sizeable surplus in backs and tight ends... Next year mean we could wind up carrying 5 backs and 4 tight ends... That marginalizes our error in wide receivers... Sure he is going to get someone who will flourish for us next year... He's Ozzie that's what Ozzie does... But with players like JB and Kamar emerging this year we might need only 5 receivers 6 at most so it won't be like we have to scour and get every available receivers on the market or In the draft... We can store some of these potential players on PS next year like Matthews or Dan brown who have game experience due to this years injuries in case we are injury stricken again next year... So I like what I see and even though I really do hate them I could see us with talent like the Bengals have this year on the offensive side of the ball

  9. Please explain to me why we let McPhee walk and we have maybe 1 cover corner who looks overpaid? Or that we haven't drafted a CB in the 1st 3 rounds since 2011 (Jimmy Smith). OR that we haven't drafted a pass rusher in the 1st 3 rounds since 2010 (Sergio Kindle) (Kruger 2009)? OR that we just drafted an ILB with the 17th pick that is too big/slow to cover running backs and TE's? A total liability is passing situations unless he is blitzing. We need ballers all over the field. I haven't seen a "Great" Ravens defense since Chuck Pagano left for Indy.

and to be frank with you I'm pretty sure he is not the only overpaid corner in the league... That was the general consensus coming out of free agency last year was that everyone was overpayed

OK let's gets this straight about Pernell... It was not entirely about money... Pernell still would be a role player if he was here... Just like tyrod he wanted to get a chance to start. So if he would have came back here it would have taken the kitchen sink to bring him back appreciate a player like zadarius who has potential... And if you want a slow linebacker look at 51... I really love him and hes way quicker than I am but that's why we have 54 on the field a lot more I didn't see you complaining blast year with cj... Players just don't turn into bad players after one year

  11. I sure hope Harbaugh's enthusiasm about the numbers doesn't skew the fact that nobody on the receiving corps has scared anyone on NFL teams. Yeah you have numbers but does it warrant another year of mediocre play. Starting to rise from the ashes in a lost cause is never a jump off point. The team has been getting smoked yearly and needs a fresh set of eyes and ears. I like the article i just read about the methods the Steeler's utilize in evaluations of receiver talent. They call each other out during games and practices. They fine each other (players) for blown assignments, bad routes, missed plays and the like. I'd say it's paying dividends. That's saying a lot about an all-in oriented approach. They also use a grind that reflects the strengths and weaknesses they observe. But mostly they look for subtle differences that compliment each other. Not trail blazing speed all the time. Something I believe isn't the be all end all skill set. If you have great hands and savvy you can succeed in almost any system. We have all seen Mike Wallace use speed in Pittsburgh and fail with it in Miami. Strong case to look at the film a little differently and make better decisions going forward. Home run bombs look pretty on film but not those that are dropped and consistently contested which repeatedly fall to the ground. I've seen a few standout college players this year that would fit the bill and should be highly rated and considered. If you can't catch you can't play. If you can't get open you can't play. If you can't remember the play you can't play. If you can't practice, put time/concentration/self development into off season programs that help yourself and the team then your already behind the curve. Pride should go beyond the season via continuation not the off season. It can only help ! I do like the adjustments being made thru out the season. The willingness to see what we have. It has been duly noted that we are behind the divisional rivals in a critical area. Let's hope they get the right personnel that can turn the tide this off season.

I don't think you have to scare anyone in this league... After all we are playing with people the general viewers had no idea of who they were at the beginning. I mean our very own Chris Matthews I don't think was a feared target and he went off in the SB... I doubt a whole lot of successful dbs line up across a wide receiver scared or not confident in there abilities its just all about can you make the plays and they have
