  1. Are the eligibility rules that straight forward? I remember there being talk a few years ago of Mikel Arteta being eligible to play for England. Apparently, there's a FIFA rule that states: Any player who has represented their country in an official competition, at whatever level, would at that time need to have held a passport for the country they later wish to play for in order to be permitted to make the switch.

On another note, I'm wondering what tweaks Roy will make to the England line-up later today. With the way team plays (boringly), Carroll just might be the best option at striker.

My understanding of the rules is, if you haven't been capped at senior level for your Country you can essentially become a dual citizen and play for another if you've lived in that Country for a certain period of time. I think its five years but I could be wrong!

Rumours are, Hodgson is fielding a more attacking 4-4-2 side with Carroll partnering Welbeck up front and Oxlade-Chamberlain dropping to the bench.

  2. i think its absurd that rule in sport, not just roi/uk. Like if ronaldo stayed at utd for a few more years he could be playing for england. Personally if i was in control, first thing i would do is make a rule you have to play for the country your born in. Secondly, make howard webb the ref in all united games :)

I'm pretty sure Ronaldo had already played for Portugal's senior team when he signed for Utd so it wouldn't have been possible, but I understand your point. It's the same in most sports too, England's Cricket and Rugby teams spring to mind. Vinnie Jones playing football for Wales was always funny to me!

  3. I'm not so sure England even make it out of their group.

France are my clear-cut favourites - they have, in my opinion about as many World Class players as every other team in their group put together.

England are meh - until Rooney's back from suspension their squad is comprised largely of ageing or mediocre players.

Sweden should be getting a little more attention - they are generally well organised and have Ibrahimovic up front. If their creative players step up he could do a lot of damage.

Ukraine are bad - they have the ability to cause an upset or two, but are really just there as a space filler.

I think it comes down to England's head-to-head game against Sweden and I think Sweden could get the better of them.

I agree with everything you said. I wouldn't be surprised if Sweden progressed ahead of them.

  4. Prometheus came out last Friday over here so I've already seen it. Thought it was an excellent sci-fi flick but can see why some of the Alien fanboys are criticizing it even though Ridley Scott was clear that very little is connected between the two films! Go see it in 3D if you can because visually it's spectacular.

  5. I'm a Utd fan too but got to admit that City deserved the title without a doubt. Utd threw it away when they allowed Everton to grab a draw from 4-2 up. That and the 1-0 loss at the Etihad was the nail in the coffin. But I must admit, I was close to celebrating before Dzeko's goal went in, I also can't help but feel that the QPR players had picked up that the Bolton game was final and they were safe. but that's probably doing a disservice to City.

  6. I actually hate baseball and I liked it. Although, its completely BS that Boston "instilled" the money ball philosophy when they won in 2008 (or whatever year it was). Go look up their payroll that year. What a crock to credit them as doing what the A's did!!

I didn't even know it was based on true events. That's how little I know! Ha.

  7. I applaud you for seeing the original one first. Haven't seen the follow ups. Hornest nest or Fire. Sure they aren't as good since the original crushed Swedish records.

I'm sure if the US version does well they'll spit out the Hornet's Nest and Fire sequels quickly.

I think I'm gonna give the second one a watch this weekend if I get time. I'll let you know how it is!

  8. I agree. The original Swedish Film was very good. Noomi Rapace was phenomenal. Not sure why there needs to be an American Remake (even though Fincher says its not) when the original was only 2 years old.

Seriously, does Hollywood even know how to be creative on its own anymore? Remakes, Reboots and Sequels seem to be the majority of blockbusters nowadays.

Not surprised they remade this film so fast because of the proven track record the original film had. Hollywood did the same thing with "Let the Right One In"

Okay, I'm getting off my hipster movie podium now.

I watched the original last night. Excellent movie! Have you seen the two follow ups? Just want to know if they're as good as the first or is there a significant drop-off like a lot of sequels?

  9. Anybody else ever watch 'Bronson'? It's currently on Netflix Instant Watch, I just watched it yesterday. I thought it was a very, very good movie. Surprised how under the radar it went.

I don't know how much publicity it had in the States when it was released but I believe it had a pretty limited release here in the UK with not much promotion, even though it's based on one of our most high profile prisoners. I agree on it being a good movie!

  10. Oh. The Walking Dead is great. Season two should be even better.

Yeah I'm also looking forward to it, but I'm concerned that it won't live up to expectations since AMC cut the budget by 25% even though they're making twice as many episodes! They've even replaced the head guy and whole writing team from Season 1 because they disagreed with the budget cut.

But I must admit, the trailer for the Season 2 looks fantastic!

  11. I watched both of those a while back and I agree they are great movies. I love the main actor. He is also in 'Iron Monkey' which is on IW as well.

Since its October, I am on my Horror watching only mode. Anybody have any good hidden gems (doesn't have to be IW)? They do have to be hidden because I watch a ton of flicks.

This year the horror films I have watched have been weak compared to last years session. Last year I watches some screwed up flicks. Don't know if anybody's ever seen it but 'Matryrs' has to be one of the most disturbing movies I've ever watched. It's right up there with 'Serbian Film' and 'Irreversible'. If you like sick stuff, all three of these are a must.

I don't know if you've already seen it or not but there's a French film called 'Inside' that's supposed to be a pretty sick horror film. I haven't seen it personally but I've heard its as disturbing as the films you mentioned!

  12. Fast Five is really good, in a brainless feel good way. Looking forward to Thor, international reviews are pretty good so far.

I really enjoyed Thor. I can't say I'm a comic geek who could critique the authenticity but it was fun to watch!
