It became obvious to me that we're going wide receiver in the first round again when we chose not to sign any this offseason. Ozzie must love Mike Williams and is probably willing to even trade up for him if he must.
yeah either him or davis who plays like williams but has the speed behind him. It could be a cover up for a pass rusher they may have their eye on.
Sorry John but I do not see it as of YET. We still have major pieces missing especially on the offense. Harbaugh's constant rah rah gets old truefullyBUT what do you expect him to say??? My problem is that I am starting to believe that HE believes what he is saying and not clearly seeing the teams shortfall. Perhaps he should listen more to the fans ....
So if your kid is failing at something you're not going to excite him/her to chase success and greatness? Your logic makes no sense, I'm sorry. I appreciate someone looking at the bright side like harbs do because we would fall into a pit of doom if you were our coach. We were a play away from making the playoffs. One stop! I say we're on the right path to put us back in the SB convo. Yes we have holes and place we need to fill but this isn't baseball. We have a cap which is limited. The best teams seams to never have money. Why? They try to lock up home grown players and not wildly spend. Those guys fought their hearts out for John. He hasn't lost the locker room and everyone is still confident. Why cause issues when their is none? We just need to put ourselves in a better position to win games. If that's call plays effectively, coaching or drafting. Flacco can't throw more than 35 passes. Run the ball! Lots of play action. Def need to be scrappy and physical within the rules. Get greedy. Hit everything thats moving. Send a message on every tackle. Defense need to have that cocky identity which is what ed and ray brought. Know your opponent. We start thinking like Ravens again we'll be fine.
The 2012 Superbowl Champion Ravens was in large part a team that was 13-3 in 2006 before Harbs and Flacco, close to winning the Division in 2008, won the division in 2011 and 2012. This is not that team.
This is a team that missed 3 out of the last 4 playoffs and have not won the division in 5 years.
What they need are playmakers : Based on chance of availability
1. OJ Howard –BPA if he’s there at 16. I doubt it though
2. Mike Williams – Miss match, will win ball similar to Boldin, Evans, Benjamin, can make Flacco better
3. Barnett – loss Dummervil, Suggs is older
4. McKinley – speed rusher
5. Corey Davis – route runner, size, RAC
6. Peppers – If the above guys are gone, he’s BPA IMO, will always be around football
7. Cook – home run RB, running and catching out of backfield
Trading back is gambling when you are already behind. Yes, the Ravens can play Steelers, Patriots, and a lot of teams close, but moral victories do not win games.
This is a deep draft so the teams already ahead of the Ravens will get better too. Stay put and select BPA. No need to wheel and deal with a team that has been 3rd in the division for years.OK, and what if all 7 of those players are on the board, and lets say for sake of example, Detroit (I picked them simply for easy math) wants to give us a 3rd rounder to move back 5 slots, as the draft chart says is approximately even.... you say we don't do it? That doesn't make ANY sense, because you can still get choice of 2 of those 7 AND another player in the top 100.
First, It's highly unlikely that ALL 7 will still be on the board. But I'll play along.
It's still gamble that not needed. What if we move back 2 spots? And Mike Williams turns out to be a beast. He goes to Titans who then would be another AFC team competing for a playoff spot with Ravens.
Also, What if the Broncos trade with Skins. Now there are 2 AFC teams picking a player higher than you.
IMO, trading back works when you already have a good team and need additional picks for depth and future. A team that missed the playoffs and have not won the divison should play the percentages and take the BPA
That's wishful thinking. You don't know what those guys are going to do. Having two gives you a better change than one. We grab williams and becomes a bust. It can go both ways so it really doesn't matter. The best chance in his never will happen scenario lol is to trade a couple spots back and you still get one of the guys on your draft board and an additional pick because of the draft being really deep in what the team needs. They aren't throwing players on the board. It's a reason they are ranked the way they are on the ravens board. Williams could be 15....who knows.
they have the same teams beating the patriots and they all have yet to do so except us.....please stop the with the crap.....those teams will not beat the pats....steelers possibly but they continue to fail us smh

Ben has elite ability but also has and elite ego and his ego has lost Pittsburgh more big games then he has won them over the past 5 years.
Ryan is not Joe... Julio makes any QB look elite... and MattyIce has always had great WRs (and TE)
Joe has proven that if you give him time and half way decent weapons... that he can win the whole thing for us.
We need to re-build that OL and add in a play making WR and Joe will have weapons. (Perriman and Wallace can take the top off of any defense. WE have great TEs and a lot of them. We have woodhead who will chew up yardage and if we can add a JuJu or a DeDe Westbrook, Corey Davis, Mike Williams type of WR in the draft.... Joe will have weapons) the addition of some sure handed WR like Boldin who can roam behind the LBs could be a very large asset... but Joe will have some weapons by the time season starts. (look at the super bowl year- Boldin, Torrey, Pitta, Rice... those were the weapons... we can put that and more on the field this year).
the key is keeping him protected- Joe has to have time and have a clean pocket. Stanley, Alex Lewis and Yanda are a good chunk of that starting 5 but we really do probably need 2 more OLmen.
Completely agree with you. A big key to Joe's success which continues to go unnoticed is he HAS to stay under 32 thrown passes. I keep telling ppl that he is not a high volume passer. I can bet if you look at his record when he's under and over 32 passing attempts, he has more wins when he comes under. So what does that mean? It has to be a solid run game. If we're not running the ball and running play action passes than we should get use to losing because now we're not catering to Flacco's strengthens. He love the deep ball. How did we win the SB?! Deep passes, running the ball and PA. This formula has been proven but along the way we stop using it. I like the signing of Roman who can get the running game back on track. If we mix that in with PA passes and quick slants for our Permian and Wallace, we will be a 10 win team again but it has to balance. We can't get out there and scrap the running game or not get our line to play hard nose physical football. We need that grit. A light must flip on once that whistle blows because we need to clear holes for the RB's. Doing that will cause Joe to play like Joe Cool. Watch the offense when we went on that Super Bowl run. It was so balance and was amazing to watch

Pitta falls to the ground on contact which i dont blame him having back to back injuries. Just wait and see when he leaves for a bigger contract and a starting position, he will easily have better numbers than Pitta. Maybe when we draft Cam at 16 to take over the RT spot it will finally give #5 time to see his other options instead of dumping it off short of the 1st down every time. BTW I dont want them to draft him but im starting to think thats what will happen. I would much rather draft Dan Feeney in the 2nd round and have the option of playing him at LG/C allowing Alex Lewis to slide out to RT if needed. Im just hoping whoever we draft at 16 is a stud because there is a lot of great talent available. Worst case we trade back picking up an extra pick and draft Adoree Jackson to take over return duties and corner depth. Personally I wouldnt mind that if it gives us an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick. If its a 3rd I would package it up with our extra 3rd to slide back into the 2nd to draft Sidney Jones and he can start next year opposite of Jimmy. That would easily give us the best secondary in the league and with Jimmy being the oldest we wouldnt have to worry about the position for another 5 years.
Crockett is a big guy of course he's fighting for those extra yards but that doesn't make is hands better than Pitta lol. The bigger you are the harder you fall and that's the case with Crockett. Not saying he can't ball because he can but we've seen what Pitta can do on the highest stage and he can turn into a Pro Bowl TE if he wasn't derailed by the injuries. Pitta has never been a YAC guy. He's the guy that finds the soft spots in the defense, makes contested catches and is a redzone threat which is why we haven't cut him. I think you're pumping crocket up a little to much lol.
I still don't think Q will return to the Ravens. His 2013 departure via trade did not, in any way, appear to be something that happened on amicable terms and the same FO is still running the show in Baltimore. It's also not a good sign that the FO didn't bring Torrey Smith back to Baltimore either. Indications are that Ozzie & Harbaugh aren't interested in any reunions with former WRs. This is a shame because the Ravens NEED a guy who is going to make contested catches in the end zone, and even at 37 Boldin would be better IMO than anyone currently on the roster.
I highly doubt Q has any animosity built up over that. It's the NFL and we all know what that means when it comes to players and contracts. It's a business. He still got his money even if it wasn't from the Ravens. Now as far as Torrey, if we didn't have Mike Wallace than yes I say we should bring him in but we do. Why would we have two of the exact same type of player? He was brought in to replace what Torrey did for us. He's also not a red zone threat. Q yes. It's not smart to waste money on past players just to have to have them. Q would be a good pickup because his leadership and production that he can bring that we lost when SSS retired. Torrey isn't needed so it's no point of entertaining that. If anything, we need to see what we get in the draft (hopefully one of the top 3 receivers) and pick up players that's still out their or have been cut. Like Ozzie said, the team will not be finished until the second game of the regular season. Trust the process. It's what gotten us 2 SB's and solid players in all areas of the draft in FA.
not even going to waste my time with the Sherman talk. He's not coming to the Ravens and I think he'll stay in Seattle.
I think Jernigan will be a solid player for the Eagles and he should have continued success.... I feel like we have the players ready and able to replace him here and I understand the trade.... I just stick by what I said... all along..
I just wish we would have gotten more for him. I disagree with Ozzie's assessment that we got appropriate value. This is a guy who is a starter at minimum. This is a guy who has potential to be a pro-bowler.... a former 2nd round pick. - who we didn't receive a third round pick for but instead moved up in the 3rd round for.
I think Timmy has a greater value then what we got for him. Ozzie has to say that though. We should have moved up in the third and received a 5th for him or moved up in the 2nd and received a 6th.Completely dependent on another team paying that price.
If I were another team, I'd just wait a year, give you nothing, and sign him myself. He's getting a big contract regardless, and so that's factored in to the price tag.
If this deal were a year or two ago, we probably could have gotten a 2nd rounder for him. But factored into the cost of the trade is the cost the other team has to pay for the new contract... OR... the risk of not being able to sign him to an extension.
Maybe Jernigan's agent told teams that his client wouldn't sign an extension regardless. If so, that certainly drops his trade value a ton, because he's a one year rental to most teams at that point.
Exactly what I said. No one is going to give you two high draft picks for a guy everyone knows is leaving the following year. The eagle trade makes sense because they still have a third pick but get timmy. Ravens just jump 25 spots which is golden because they can get a starter caliber player.
1st Rd - WR
2nd Rd - OLB
3rd Rd RB
3rd Rd CB
4th Rd OT
5th Rd OLB
6th Rd CB
7th Rd DE
wishful thinking here dont mind me lol
We did not give up Timmy and two picks to get a third rd pick. From what I read yesterday we still get a comp pick for him when he signs a new deal. Eagles are taking on his contract so they don't get the comp pick because they didn't draft him I'm assuming. So we only gave up timmy and swapped picks to move up 25 spots.
I agree.... I don't have a problem with the fact that we traded TJ
A. We have a ton of young talent on the DL
B. We would not sign him after this year
C. He has been inconsistent
D. We can get something for him.
I do however also agree that we simply did not get enough!
A. We could have received nearly the equivalent in a comp pick down the road
B. We do lose his production for this season
C. We traded a starter and a 3rd rounder (and a future 3rd or 4th round comp pick) for a higher 3rd round pick this year. That feels like an awful lot.
D. Timmy was our most potent interior pass rusher and having already lost Doom and Guy.... I am a little surprised by this.... hope Kafusi can collapse the pocket.
I get why we traded him and don't even have an issue with that.... I just don't feel like we got enough. If we would have traded Timmy and a 3rd rounder for a 3rd and a 5th... I would have been good.
If we would have traded Timmy and a 4th for their 3rd and 5th.... cool.
Even Timmy and our 3rd for their 2nd and 6th.... I am in...
Just feel that we should have covered that comp pick and got more out of the deal. Does anyone know how much salary cap space this created? (I do wonder if this was a bigger factor then it seemed)????
I don't know about that. Everyone knew that Timmy wasn't going to stay past this year so I HIGHLY doubt someone is giving up two draft picks for him. The pick we got makes sense because for one we get something for Timmy. The Eagles when because they get a good player and still have a 3rd rd pick. We win because we move up 25 spots which is huge because the draft is really deep on defense. We don't know what Timmy will be this season because he's inconsistent. He has the potential but we only saw glimpses of it. I think the guys we have can make up for it and do more. Henry started eating at Timmy's reps so that's saying something. No way a team is going to give up 2 picks for Timmy whose playing for a contract year. He would still be on the team if that's the case. Eagles have a chance to resign if he does play well. If not, he'll be somewhere else. Overall I hated the trade because I like Timmy but it was a really good trade because this time we're not losing a good player because of contract reasons. We get something out of him and can get something now in this years draft instead of 2019.
I don't think Flacco is elite but I do believe if he had the weapons like Ryan, Big Ben, Luck, Carr, Dalton and those guys, we would be considering him as an elite QB. We need to do a better job at drafting receivers. We bring in a really good 1k receiver and a DB that's durable on defense, I think we can make a run in the playoffs.
29 catches for a 4th target WR. 33 catches for our #1 Pick. Hmmmmmmm
LOL nice try. Aiken was the 5th target, and he's been in the league 5 years, and he's getting outplayed by a rookie... to the tune of almost 4 yards/catch. That's how you end up with 170 yards less... with just four less catches. Yikes... that's bad.
And that's why he signs a one year deal in FA in a bad WR market.
You're gonna have to come up with something better than catches bud. This ain't a PPR fantasy league.
agreed
I think this will be great for Aiken and wish him nothing but the best, especially when he plays us. #5 did him dirty just like he did with Smitty and I would love nothing more than to see him have a breakout season leading to a huge contract. It doesn't matter who we have at WR as long as Pitta is in the game he will be getting the dump off pass, Crockett is 10 times better than Pitta but he won't get the chance to prove it until he is playing for another team.
crockett is not better than pitta....maybe at blocking but pitta is a receiving TE. His hands are more reliable than any of the TE's on our roster. If he was faster you can put him the slot. Your not putting crocket in the slot position. Also, you can't blame Flacco (we only call #12 by his number) for the lack of production. He fell down the depth chart and flacco was vocal about getting kamar more involved. He doesn't make the depth sheet or draw up the plays. I agree their should've been more play designs for kamar which would've kept defenses guessing but that wasn't the case.
definitely need to add one with one of the first 2 picks imo. i see us drafting a wr or olb at #16 depending on which one is the bpa
agreed we have to at least in my opinion take two db's from this draft. it's too deep not to
I will be really upset if we don't pounce on a DB in the second or third round of the draft. I hope we're able to grab a WR or pass rusher with our 1 pick if not RB is the top guy is there.
Not sure how I feel about this. Young can play better.
Young is a slot corner. We need guys that can cover the big bodied WR's and also quality depth. We still need to address the position in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft but I'm ok with the signing. Especially with Eric and Tony on the back in of the defense
juice is gone to the 49ers.....smh....if we sign t.smith i'm going to flip out...how are we going to get all these speed guys if 1 we abandon the run game again, 2 no separation from those guys and 3, a line that needs a center and RT smh
What's with all the retreads lately? Torrey was good for us as a draft pick.
But, he had issues like all ravens wide receivers in getting separation when pressed in man coverage. We don't need more bad FA deals. If Torrey is less than 4 mil a year fine. Anything more than that you need to fill via the draft.
We don't need him at all. It's a waste of money and space. That's what we have Mike Wallace and Perriman for.
First priority of free agency has to be signing Brandon Marshall. Get it done. Not to mention we still have so many cuts to be made. I doubt many Ravens fans are thinking about it at all but I wish we would sign my boy Calais Campbell
he's already agreed to terms with the giants
good moves, we need to cut Doom, Pitta so get a real savings LOL!!!!
cutting them wouldn't make sense especially since pitta was very production coming off of two hip surgeries. If anything those guys need to take pay cuts (especially doom and webby) to make room. Arrington needs to be next on the list. Whose stepping in for webby if we cut him? Same with Doom? Pitta we can have someone step in but for how long? Our TE's continues to get banged up (Maxx, Crocket, Ben). I would like to see a trade happen with one of the TE's. Ben maybe but I doubt anyone would take him coming off that ACL tear.
I think B. Will is going to stay. Wagner might bail out and Juice will stay since the market for FB is somewhat absent. Prince will not be sign because of injury concerns (we're dealing with that in Jimmy...imagine both going down!!), I think we can grab either marshall or garçon even though garçon might be priced out of our range, the center is possible depending on health and i don't think we'll get jefferson. We need a mixer of vets and young guys but I don't want us continually to fill holes through FA. Lock the vets up to a point where we're able to draft guys to take their spots later on
I don't see them cutting or renegotiating his contract for next season. He put up a 1000 yard season his first year with the Ravens. I say that's a really good FA pickup if you ask me. If anything, I see Arrington gone, Lewis gone, Wright gone, Doom and Webby will both take paycuts. Watson would still be on the team. Especially since we constantly have banged up guys on the roster. One of the TE's might be trade bait since we have a lot of potential at the position but Pitta, Watson and Crockett might be the lineup week one if injuries doesn't riddle any of those guys. You still have Boyle whose is really productive, Waller who is solid and Madd Maxx whose still trying to find his way. Use that cap to sign Williams and Juice. I don't think we'll get Wagner back.

There should some sort of one time, monitored by you guys, page on the ravens site for us to write our condolences and heart felt comments about Holly and the Heaps. The Ravens need to make sure HH is on the helmets and/or jersey and/or field the entire season. Start that site if it's possible. I'm in IT, so I know it shouldn't be that hard lol.
