Also, zuttah did not give up a single sack in either 20!2/2013. Impressive
Anyways......
We still need a better D-Line, I just re-watched the buffalo game and we got gashed. I'd rather use a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick on a DL as opposed to Free Agency. What does everyone think?
I agree. Losing Art Jones does not help this fact.
Great day today. Signed two awesome players, two of my favorite players at that. But do we still have enough money for an OL player?
I agree with a lot of your points but i think you've really hit the nail on the head when you said, "its hard to get the ball to everyone let alone your 4th or 5th read". I think that's all he would be for us. Honestly, i believe there are better alternatives out there than Lance Moore, if that's the direction you wanted to go. For Veteran Minimum, I think we could bring in Kenny Britt for a year as a "prove it to me" kinda deal. I'd even be willing to spend a little more on a guy like Andre Roberts - who's really been flying under the radar lately - big body, athletic, slot receiver who can make big plays on 3rd down. Jerome Simpson could be an interesting fit in the slot. I think even bringing back a guy like Doss would be a better option than Lance Moore.
My ideal strategy for WR though would be to wait until teams start making roster cuts because of all the young talented Wr's about to enter the league. Some really good players are gonna be replaced with these younger, cheaper, more talented rookies. That's where Ozzie makes his bread and butter picking up the scraps and cast offs of bad teams, polishing them up and turning them into a shiny new Lombardi Trophy. But since this thread is about signing players already out there - if i had to target 2 players I'd go after Jacoby Jones or Andre Roberts then draft a rookie.
I actually heard that Kenny Britt would be a Raven last year. I even reported it here during the early part of the season. I would love to see it happen.
Loved what I saw and heard in that press conference. It really seems like they understand it's time to change. I really am excited to see what happens in the draft now, because for once we might not be held back by the system.
Think we may draft a TE in the early rounds now? That would not be a surprise at all, considering Kubiak's offense is based heavily around TE usage.
Juan is actually the perfect teacher for what Kubiak wants to do. Looking back on things, promoting Castillo to OL coach was likely the writing on the wall for us to bring in an OC that utilized the zone blocking scheme. Castillo might just surprise some folks now. I am more than willing to give him a chance... not like we can do anything about it anyways.
Thanks.
Harbs said they vetted 30 names, wow.
I apologize for being ignorant, but what do you mean by "vetted"?
We are even more attached to the Texans now. We got their coaches and players. Its like the Ravens and Jets 2009/2010
Except for the fact that we tend to do much better with former Texans than the Jets did/do with former Ravens.
Exactly. This will either be the best move in a few years, or it will be one of the worst. No one knows at this point, but it's nice to see an outside candidate get the job.
I just hope that Shanahan comes along with them... I have a feeling he could be an excellent coach for a team now that he's not working with his Dad anymore.
so much for the Harbuddy theory
OR.... maybe, just maybe... the higher ups stepped in and told Harbaugh he could not hire Hostler in as OC... *cue suspense music*
No offense, but nobody knows right now how this move will turn out. So until the games start happening, why be so negative about it? The ink's barely dry on his contract. Let's see how it develops before we start running him under the bus already.
Agreed, but this also works the other way too. People who are getting uber excited about this move should temper expectations until we see how the offense works out in real time action.
This does not bode well. Personally I've been screaming for some exotic and ballsy playcalling. Different version of Cam coming up. Conservative playcalling all day long. Absolutely hate this move.
If conservative means moving the chains slowly but surely, keeping a good TOP number, incorporating an H-Back for Juice, and using Rice in a better way (similar to Foster)... then sign me up for a conservative attack.
Are we bringing in Shanny??
How is this going to work in the short term though? How will 3 longtime OC's be able to cooperate together? I'm guessing Shanahan will act as the QB coach, but what about Dennison? Offensive Specialist, or some other zany idea?
So is this Kubiak/Shanahan/Dennison report as close to being official as it can be, or is it just a rumor?
I think John is the best version of what a Greg Schiano type of coach can be. They have a certain player type (aka'd the Schiano men, those personality-free dolts who work really really hard but have a relative lack of natural ability), they're control freaks, and they ultimately have comparatively low football IQs. Jim's a toddler, but at least he understands the game and scheming around his player's strengths. I respect him for that.
Lmao, exactly. This is very true.
I'd imagine it'd be vastly different because of the time gap
Yeah, instead of Flacco audibling to a play by calling out Bon Jovi, he will instead audible to a play by saying 50 Cent.
I saw some one mention that The Ravens wanted to hold off on announcing who the offensive coordinator was going to be due to the Columbia Mall incident.
As tragic as the event is/was, that's a cover up. My deepest empathies go out to the families of the victims involved however.
I get the feeling he rubs a lot of people the wrong way. He's a guy I know I wouldn't like.
I don't believe I could get along with either Harbaugh brother. For as bad as John is, Jim is much, much worse in terms of personality. So I'm glad that we have the good brother in terms of personality. In terms of actual coaching ability though.... no way John is better than Jim.
This is starting to become laughable at this point. The team is taking this long to decide whether to hirer a young innovative offensive mind or hirer a guy who has accomplish absolutely nothing. They messed up by letting Shanahan walk out the door after the first interview, now you have to take days to figure out whether you want this guy over Hostler? lmao!
It's like the team is trying to drag this thing out, so all the talented candidates get hired by other teams, so we will have to hire Hostler by default. I don't care how this plays out though...
If Hostler end up being our OC, I'm done with Harbs. Straight up. He's taking this team full of choir boys and golf buddy thing too far. Kyle should have been offered a contract after the first interview, so the team can start working on installing his system as quickly as possible. Instead we have to wait it out because Harbs is trying to get his boy the job by any means necessary.
This whole situation is hilarious.
Here's another article on Kyle's system:
The guy call plays with a purpose. There's a method to his madness. If we hire Hostler, I guarantee we will see the same offense in 2014, that we saw the last 6 years. Look at what he did with the 49ers. Same thing,, run, run, pass. No creative what so ever. Same old vanilla offense...
I'm losing a lot of respect for Harbaugh. You run all the outspoken players out of the locker room, whether they perform or not, but you keep your buddies... I mean coaches even if they clearly aren't capable of doing the job you assigned them to.
I know I'm ranting, but this is the most hilarious thing EVER! You have one of the best offensive minds in football waiting to hear back from you, but you're making him wait because you contemplating hiring... dare I say it... Jim Hostler? Rolmao!
I'm sorry, but our team has no idea what it takes to build a good offense. It's been this way since 1999. Watch they hire Hostler and not Kyle. We always put ourselves in position to fail on offense. We know how this is going to turn out. I've seen this movie before...
I grew tired of Harbaugh a long time ago. Winning the Super Bowl silenced most of his critics for a while, but if he continues his crap, you'll see even more bashers of him than you originally saw.
Just because a player likes a guy, doesn't automatically qualify that guy as even a decent coach. They could like their brother Mike, but it doesn't mean that brother Mike is suited to be an OC... unless that brother is the brother of John Harbaugh, that is..
But anyways, there is no secret candidate. It makes no sense for two guys to be the "finalists" if the process of finding candidates to interview wasn't over yet. This is the final step... either the wrong guy gets hired and the team goes down once again, or the right guy gets hired and we are put on the right path to the playoffs.
The only reason this thing is dragging out for so long is because Harbs and the higher ups, including Ozzie/Bisciotti, are having arguments over who the next OC should be. Harbs is going for his inept buddy, as always, while the higher ups are calling for Shanny.
In other news, Shanahan is a perfect fit for our offense, especially since Castillo is our OL coach and wants an emphasis on zone running schemes. Come on man, make the hire already.
If Hostler is hired, then you can compare the hiring to us coming back against a team in the playoffs when we are down by 20 points, only for Flacco to throw an INT on the potential game winning drive, and having the other team bring that INT back for a TD. That's how pathetic the hiring would be.
If the inept Jim Hostler gains the OC job, you may as well consider 2014 a lost year offensively. I'd say they will be dead last.
