  1. In addition to the boards being made by members here, I want to say that Russell Street Report has an excellent website and a great board to discuss all things Ravens. Like most of you all, I think facebook Ravens is a great place to get ticked off at the ludicrous comments made by fair weather fans who have no clue what they are talking about. I just thought I'd pop in and let you guys know there are far better ways to communicate in boards like this one without having to discuss with moronic fans in places such as Facebook.

  2. I just think it's awesome how a guy drafted in the 4th doesn't even showcase his supposed "one trick pony" skill, yet he completely impresses in other ways. From football intelligence, to solid hands/routes, he was balling out.

Judon and Stanley both impressed as well. Judon looks special, like he plays with a chip on his shoulder. His second sack was amazing, just drilling into the QB without forgetting how to properly wrap up for the tackle. So many times you see a guy going for a big sack and he completely whiffs and the QB gets to live to see another day on the play. As for Stanley, he is definitely showing why he was drafted at 6. Not only his skills, but his smarts and leadership potential along the line is a beauty to see.

Orr also did great, he always seems to find the hole to the backfield and knifes his way through. Reminds me a lot of Bart Scott actually.

  3. So there is a lot of talk going on about Butler, but I don't see a thread devoted to him, unlike with players such as Melvin/etc. I believe he is lighting it up enough to have his own thread, but if mods wish to merge this, then that's perfectly fine.

Butler seems like he will be a star one day. Not the quickest guy in the world, but speed isn't the end all, be all in the NFL. His routes are crisp, and he catches pretty much everything in sight. Why not use this guy in the slot? He has the perfect size/attributes needed to be a star in the slot. What do you see his potential as being, and what player does he compare to? To me, his story seems to be similar to Tucker, just a year later (not breaking out in his rookie season due to injury). He was undrafted, but he has potential to light it up with enough snaps/targets.

  4. This is a move that has a lot of components flying underneath the radar. The Ravens love versatility, and they love special teams. They may indeed be trying to make him a receiver, but he can also play emergency safety if needed. And the guy knows how to tackle, so he could contribute to the ST at the very least. Or.... the guy doesn't make it beyond first round of cuts.

  5. Not gonna take a stab at this one, because it is literally throwing a dart at a dartboard while blindfolded, but anyone remember how we used to have huge problems at even finding a receiver beyond a guy like Boldin or Mason or Torrey who had any kind of big time potential? Now it seems we've done a total 180, and have too many guys who have loads of potential at the position. A great problem to have.

  6. I agree with this.  Torrey made his living off speed alone as his hands were always questionable and his route running always bad, yet he was good for us.  Waller has speed (although less "quickness), much better hands, and he's huge.  If he gets just 2-4 deep attempts a game I think he'll do damage until he can improve his overall game.

Only thing is, he's a 6th rounder.  If he was 1st, 2nd, or 3rd you'd know for a fact he'd get chances.  He'll get a chance as a later round guy but he'll also be given up on quicker if it comes to that

I understand the quickness factor, but honestly, it's the rare occasion when a big receiver has the quickness. V Jax isn't the quickest, but he was a pro bowler at one time.

  7. I don't see what the whole knock on Waller is. He has incredible hands, leaping ability, speed/size combo, that can and will make up for his raw route running. Not every tall receiver in the NFL can run routes like Megatron. Most of the time, what dooms those taller guys is lacking speed and/or hands. He has both. Waller will be good for us.

  8. Perriman can fix his drops. He highpoints tge ball, competes for it, and catches with his hands. He seems to be a hard worker, with the likes of Irvin mentoring him. Add in Trestman, who got the most out of Jeffery, Engram, who was an excellent technique / possession receiver, and Steve Smith, who can further mentor him, and Perriman is in the perfect place to develop into a stud. At the very least, he adds they dimension of explosiveness back to our O.

  9. I'm seeing player comparisons comparing him to Julio Jones, Josh Gordon and Alshon Jeffery. Seems like a Trestman player. He has much more potential to be a number one receiver versus someone like Devin Smith, and he also has more speed than Devin. He fuxes his hands, he'll make a heckuva player. It's not like he isn't a hands catcher, he just loses focus sometimes.

  10. Everyone needs to stop talking about the kid's durability... don't you see that whenever we bring up a DB's injury history or durability, or even talk about the secondary's durability concerns in general, the very next week a DB goes down for the year??

But anyways, this kid does have a ton of potential. He was overlooked by many teams, and was given the start based purely on there being a lack of options, but let's not forget one certain legendary QB in New England (love or hate him). Brady, a 6th rounder, was a backup to Bledsoe, and he may have never been given a shot if he had not been forced into the start. Can Melvin be the next legend who came up from out of nowhere?
