Just now, Jacquouille said:No, as a rookie and until he gets better with his jam, he can play right now as an elite zone corner.
I already said I don't see a number one in him but that can change and right now he's bringing an element of speed, instincts and intimidation to our secondary.
actually, he jams as well as anyone..

Allen was top 5 talented that most had going high in the first round but his medicals dropped him. His medicals must have been serious issue for a guy of his talent to fall that far.
we passed on gronk..and while gronk has had injury issues im pretty sure we'd have done better with him..
ahh that legendary draft..i wonder how many people here loved the terrence cody pick..?
14 minutes ago, PurpleHorseman said:The scouting report is correct. When a player has trouble locating football much less getting his eyes around to anticipate and break it usually doesn't go away. That is something you can or can't do unfortunately for him. It's what makes Malcolm Butler so great. Gets his eyes around, anticipates finds and breaks on throws. His skills at doing that somehow helped tom Brady leapfrog Montana as the best QB of the last 25 yrs or so. Marlon can't do that and probably never will. Even his "Highlights" he sees the ball last second and scrambles to try and break it up. In his highlights anyways he was more less lucky cuz the WR dropped it and he was able to get in the way enough to cause a bobble and drop.
Not sure how our inept management could possibly have him BPA!! It is mind boggling. Does management not know what the great cornerbacks are?? What makes them so great?? Marlon could maybe excel in cover2 and any variety of zone coverage. Where he faces the QB and action and can use his elite closing burst, striking and tackling. Better yet with his size and physicality he could eventually be a great Safety. Especially if he totally bombs at cornerback it will force a move to safety. Where he could be really special!!
at saftey he could be a deone bucannon type.
I'm kinda shocked the FO see him as a shadow corner. He's superb at the Line..he jams better than jimmy smith did at colorodo but boy when he has to turn his back and the ball is in the air he's useless!
4 minutes ago, Davesta said:I mean, a year ago today we were crying how we never spend a top 1-2 round pick on a cornerback. Brandon Carr is decent, not great. Plus he's 30. Jimmy smith can't finish a season. As great as tavon played, he's still a 5'8 nickel corner. I get the pick. I have a feeling Derek Barnett and hasson reddick was our 2 main defensive targets. But they got snatched up. I can live with this. Hopefully the draft falls in our favor and we grab a WR, pass rush, and OL with our 3 day 2 picks.

Why did he choose a corner that is more suited to SS? thats my issue. Why didn't he trade back? He overrated Marlon tremendously, they see something that isnt there. He will struggle.. if this was marshon lattimore or even a sidney jones i'd understand the pick, they are playmakers and fluid . HUmphreys really struggles with ball location and playing the ball in general. That isn't something you can ''teach'' you either have it or you dont.
Ozzie really needs to go IMO.
17 minutes ago, Maryland said:In the presser, Oz alludes to the fact that he expected Foster and Allen to be available at pick #16. It suggests that teams knew those players were going to tumble. Our FO was not the only one bearish on their potential, as is quite apparent.
Anyway, I'm fine with the Humphrey pick; the value was adequate. Doesn't fill the biggest immediate need, but it would have been a position we needed to address in the future, considering Carr is turning 31 and has been in decline the past couple seasons. I would rather have had OJ Howard or traded down, but I'm glad we dodged Foster and Cam Robinson. Here's hoping he develops into a solid outside corner.
dont think you've escaped cam robinson yet..
ozzie isn't done in destroying us..yet..
9 minutes ago, RaineV1 said:The fact that he has the same weaknesses as Jimmy coming out of college means we can probably fix them even faster.
What i dont understand about our scouting dept or our FO belief system is that we seemingly have no interest in players that play the ball, specifically corners. We seem to be more interested in guys whos strengths are at the line rather than deep on the outside where big plays occur.
I see no reason for the FO to have Humphrey ahead of t.white unless it's because of ozzies hatred of LSU. T.white is so much more polished and is a playmaker. the only think humphrey does better is break up screens. We have enough guys for that :/
1 minute ago, Jacquouille said:His weakness are basically what Jimmy corrected last offseason, with the «tennis ball drill».
Talented height-weight-speed prospect who comes from NFL bloodlines. Might need time for his technique to catch up with his traits. Coverage inconsistencies could cause him to struggle against quality competition early on, but his mental makeup and recovery talent should help him pull through. Has the instincts and run-support skills to become an early starter for a zone-cover defense, but it will be hard for teams looking for a lockdown, man corner to pass on all of those physical gifts early in the draft.
Basically, expect him to be giving up big plays unless we play him in a more limited or specialized role with saftey help.

I never forget that when I see knee jerk reactions to draft picks on here. I think Humphrey is going to be a stud once he fills out a little more and matures. I actually think Humphrey is more pro ready than Jimmy was coming out but we won't really see the player he's going to be until year 2 and 3. This guy is an AFCN player, big and physical for his position. I love that he can be a factor in run support and hit. Maybe not the best pure cover corner, but much like Jimmy, if he can get a good jam on you and disrupt the timing of the route he can really cause problems for an offense. We have a very physical secondary and a bunch of corners that can put hands on you at the point of attack.
My only gripe was positional value, there are going to be so many CB's available in round 2 (Wilson, King, Auwuzie, Tabor, Jones), Why not take Allen or Howard because you know another good CB is going to make it to us in the 2nd, the class is stacked with them. I just hope Humphrey separates himself from that pack and proves we he was taken where he was.
i liked mosely.
but there is no excuse taking humphrey over Allen Oj howard or R.foster. He plays more like a SS. I know this FO hates guys that actually make plays on the ball and prefer hard hitters but while everyone else here lauds this secondary, I think people are overrating it somewhat.
bleacher report named us as one of the 3 losers of the draft, said the same thing as me..pretty much
Have to be honest, i've tried to warm to this pick but outside of measurables, i just don't see value at all. He plays more like a SS than a corner..
questionable hips, questionable instincts in coverage and yes be does struggle to locate the ball. If we really wanted a corner we could have traded back and got guys as good if not better.
he's great at screens and stuff but why are we allergic to fluid playmaking corners?
I really don't understand what these guys see sometimes.

yeah I mean as I saw this unfolding i was thinking Allen's versatility and technique. Already plays in 3-4 moving across the line. Has excellent hand play.
I never even dreamed he'd fall to us at 16. Never even had a simulated mock draft do that.
Ahh well.
alabama CBs...i mean apart from kareem jackson i cant think of a decent one in years..
1 minute ago, jdynamite said:
He was cleared and deemed healthy! He has some arthritis in shoulder, no team gave him a failed physical or report.
Every year the nonsense happens where some player has some issue that teams fear or he has degenerative knee that hasn't cost him yet but it will ( D.Bowers ).
dont worry we have the great brandon williams...who needs a guy that can rush the passer? DOn't question the wizard ![]()

rivers in the second is a reach

lawd have mercy..no.. i don't want a guy whos highest potential could be JJ but more likely an upshaw
I really want jordan willis or forrest lamp. Might have to trade up to get the latter. I'll bet ozzie is wetting his pants that his alamaba crush robinson is still around :/
Just now, rossihunter2 said:I'm looking through the teams that pick ahead of us and it's just as tricky to work out what makes sense as it was in the 1st: there are only a few that seem to make obvious sense - seahawks take robinson or lamp, bengals take the other one - unfortunately I see a lot of teams who also need pass rush... packers, bears, jags, rams, jets, panthers, saints, bengals, bills, colts - they obviously all have a myriad of needs but that's a lot of opportunity for us to be disappointed

there are a lot of great corners. LOTS..also Cook and Mixon might go..Same with Zay jones.
27 minutes ago, Yatagarasu said:I wonder how Cam Robinson will do as a RT for our team.
Could be a very underrrated pick here.
Alabama x2!
we need a pass rusher..badly.. J.Willis/ Tim Williams/ Carl Lawson/T.Bowser/T.Hendrickson
If by some miracle forrest lamp is around though you do NOT pass up on a guy that can play across the line at an elite level.
19 minutes ago, rossihunter2 said:Quincy Wilson, Awuzie, K King, Tim Williams, Cam Robinson, Forest Lamp, Malik Mcdowell, Carl Lawson, Juju, Zay, Jordan Willis, Tyus Bowser all still available - that's 12 guys and we have the 15th pick tomorrow...
they better trade up because those pass rushers will be off the board in a hurrry
Just now, JoeyFlex5 said:didnt actually think he would fall to 47. just hate that we have to face him twice a year. hes gonna make our life hell. the steelers now have an unquestioned elite defense
but do they have joe flacco and breshad perriman? i thought not..
sigh
id say we're one of the losers of todays draft.
I don't see how we can put a competitive offense out there. It's just not possible..
this has to be the worst O in the league.
Just now, JO_75 said:They for once are not over drafting a QB, they are building a team to support either Cousins, Garrapolo or a QB in the 2018 draft.
They have more talent than us. Let's be honest here out offense is atrocious and easily the worst 3 in the league.
We're in trouble..all AFC north teams have made excellent picks except us.
i hate to break this to everyone
i think we're 4th in the AFC north next year. Browns have more talent then us.
btw..Humphreys is only 20, that's his saving grace but this is a pick for the future..now now. That's what i find ridiculous about this situation. Ok so we lost out on the 3 WR's. OJ howard was as SAFE of a prospect as I;ve seen in years and could help in the run and recieving game.
I wonder if ozzie just tries to do the opposite of what any sane man would do just to look like he's some kind of genius at the end of it all...?

yeah we traded out of the first round. I'm just saying there were times when ozzie saw the stars while everyone else played cute and failed.
now he does the latter...
exceptionally well too, sadly..
