  1. No wait for me, I knew the moment we picked Boyle, i said "well there goes Crockett"   Boyle is a better player than Gilmore in every phase of the game.   Crockett will turn out to be the next Jah Reid of the team (wasted space/opportunity)

Crockett, the guy that was named the #1 rookie TE last year on PFF based pretty much on how good he is at run blocking? Which is extremely good for a TE nevertheless a rookie. Kid is staying awhile.

  2. King is an idiot. I don't think he knows what he's talking about at all.

Boggled my mind he chose instincts as the reason, of all the things Polamalu did well and can stack with against Reed, instincts was not one.

  3. Knowing Ed, he did it because he wants the utmost respect over Polamalu, believing he'll at least get in over him..lol

Will certainly get a definitive answer that's for sure.  Still can't believe King rated him higher than Reed...for instincts no less.

  4. i think davis hasn't got a high motor..

    thats probably his biggest weakness

He doesn't in a definitional sense no, word is he'll tone down his effort once his original surge is checked.  However I've read reports saying he can drop anchor with the best of them so that has me encouraged. Maybe playing with some young guys like Williams and Jernigan will inspire him, who knows.  Williams almost has a comically high motor.

  5. I think its unusual for a new coordinator to not comment on the Big new shiny 1st round weapon we just got him.

Trestman is a pretty soft spoken guy.  Not really the type to wade into anything unless called upon or he feels his place.  He would have talked to Perriman 1 on 1 and that's enough for Trestman.

  6. I mean, the Patriots always paid their starters around 5-7 million each. They fielded $25+ million lines throughout most of the decade and it paid off. Like I said, this game is won in the trenches. I'd happily have two high priced guards if production matched the price.

Plus that may as well be an extra player on the field with how much a legit line will help Flacco in both pass blocking and having a line that can run block.

The days of high paid HBs are over unless you're AP or Lynch. Late rounders that understand a blocking scheme and he'll rush for 1000 annually with a good line.

  7. This needs to be addressed 'cuz I'm tired of seeing the Schuab ignorance.

Kubiak coached the most success offense this franchise has ever had.  He's gone.  The Ravens hired Trestman because, like Schaub, he has familiarity with his system.  Trestman's version is a little different and Mornhinweg has no experience in it.  Schaub is the missing link.  He has intimate knowledge of Kubiak's system.  Without Gary, Schaub will fill in the holes.

Make no mistake Schaub can still play and will if necessary.  His incentive laden contract is proof that he is here as a teacher as much as a b/u to Joe.

This. They brought Schaub in so he can fill in for Flacco from the QB perspective the exact system Kubiak ran last year. That and you'll have a backup QB who needs zero teaching the system. I don't see how this is a losing scenario, unless you think Ozzie brought him in to win 6 games if Joe goes down. But what's losing there is sanity.

  8. Can someone tell me what Ozzie saw in this guy? Seriously he has been average at best throughout his career

I guess he was cheap more than anything else?

He apparently is quite adept at picking up a playbook and getting guys lined up properly, as well as getting the assignments laid out. Something the team hasn't had since Edwardo Reed back there.

  9. Some of us didn't want him to be re-signed. I recall at least myself and one other member who were very much in agreement that handing a RB a big money contract is a mistake. I didn't hate it when we re-signed him, because I like Ray and while I knew he'd slow down, I hoped he'd maintain his ability as a receiving weapon. Again, while I didn't hate the contract I hardly praised it and questioned the deal for the long-term benefit of the team.

So no, some of us didn't praise the signing.

Think it was me....though in hindsight to keep myself accountable I said Pierce would be able to rush for 1,000 at cheaper cost and to just find a 3rd down back who could scoot out of the backfield lol...oops.

  10. This was my initial reaction but then I thought about if Flacco was only out for 2-3 weeks then it becomes VERY important imo. We need someone that can hold down the fort not a guy that can win a SB.

A valid point, though I generally feel the cap hit is too high for a "capable" backup QB who could hold the fort for a few weeks.  I feel anything past Flacco missing a few games is a toasted season anyways.  I just don't think the cap hit is on par with the potential use.

  11. Just about to post this. Considering our injury issues with the secondary, the last thing I want to do is sign a guy who is coming off an injury or is injury prone. Cameron has had three concussions in the past two years, that to me would be a concern signing him to any kind of contract.

Plus we don't know where Pitta stands who also has been injury prone the past two years. If Pitta did call it a career I wouldn't want to replace one TE who has had a broken hip twice with a TE who has had two concussions in the same time frame.

I don't know if as a GM I could pass up that talent if we got a bargain on him. Just make damn sure we have a #3 TE that can actually catch a pass if necessary behind Gilmore. Give him a Wes Welker Gazoo helmet and let's roll haha.

  12. Any ideas where Cameron Jordan will fall in the yearly cap hit zone? Read today he does not want to return to Cleveland on any circumstance. He had a down year and has a slight concussion history. Wondered if that would drive his price down enough for our range.

There's an extra player and more room to work with, but there's no reason for the principles to not translate.

The principles don't translate that well.  The WRs all get a running start except the wide out.  Most CFL teams don't run pure man coverages because you can't really with 4 WRs with a running head start at you.  The separation is ridiculous in the CFL. Sorry, but there's been 3 Canadians from this board already in this thread all state that Trestman's offense won't translate well to Baltimore.  Either Harbaugh will force Trestman to run the ball more than he's comfortable or Trestman's soft offense will follow him here.

Either way, I don't like this hire just based on the match.  Trestman is an outstanding offensive mind and great with QBs.  I just don't, and the other 2 Canadians who watched him in the CFL for half a decade agreed, see this offense translating well here in Baltimore.

I can't blame him if he wants to be a HC, but consistency would be nice.

If you want to be a head coach, become a Raven... it also works for secondary players if you want to suffer a season ending knee injury.

Lol, or if you're a subpar defensive player and want to make top 20 at your position money and retire for life after 2 seasons.

  15. I know there's a lot of talk about our next OC but we should really consider bringing in Vic Fangio to the defensive side. At least as an assistant to the linebackers coach he has a lot of knowledge to give to our young LBs

This shouldn't even be debated.  He should be hired immediately if possible.  He is an outstanding coach and SF really dropped the ball in pissing him off and letting him leave as a result.  Washington was insane not to offer him a deal right away during his interview.

  16. This is purely speculative, but for all the Dean Pees hate threads (I'm no fan, nor an ardent blamer of his) there never seemed to be an actual possibility for, who the people calling for his job, who to replace him with.  Vic Fangio is apparently an option for the Redskins at DC according to a Washington area reporter.

For those that actually want Pees gone but have no idea who would actually be a viable option as well as an upgrade, Fangio is both.  Add on top that he was a former Ravens LB (I think) coach.  I firmly believe we had Fangio pegged as the new DC after Mattison left but Fangio left for Stanford in 10 with Jim Harbaugh.

Side Note: What the hell is going on in SF?

  17. All we heard this off-season was how Elam was thrust into a role he's not suited for (FS) in game 2 of his rookie year and understandably struggled. That was going to change in year 2 ... we went out and got a FS (well, sort of) in Stewart and that would allow Elam to play his natural SS position and all would be well.

So this year gets going and where was Elam? He was getting rotated all over the place it seemed. The secondary was such a shambles, it was hard to evaluate. Nonetheless, tackling properly should be independent of your position on the field and his technique was troubling.

I agree, they need to find him his spot and keep him there. If that fails, then raise the white flag.

The tackling issue transcends positions though.  You can be awful in coverage but still know how to tackle properly.  Elam can't tackle.
