  1. That's Kate Mara, I feel like I see her everywhere now.  Mostly because she starred in Netflix's House of Cards (very good in its own right) and also Season 1 of American Horror Story.  She is actually the sister of Rooney Mara from The Girl With Dragon Tattoo

Transsiberian was very predictable but I am a sucker for the Hitchcock story telling.  Creating slow tension so thick that you can cut it with a knife, as well as, the slow paced character development early on.  I was surprised by it, but I wouldn't call it a great movie.

Ah, American Horror Story,  i knew she looked familiar.  I need some new movies to watch....anyone?

  2. Just finished the Paradise Lost trilogy.  Highly, highly recommend them.

Paradise Lost:  Child Murders at Robin Hood (1996)

    Paradise Lost 2:  Revelations (2000)

    Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory (2011)

It is a documentary series about the West Memphis Three.   Its amazing to watch the progression of the case between the long filming intervals.  Metallica allowed their music (for the first time in a movie) to be used in the documentaries because they believed in the innocence of the convicted.  Johnny Depp and Pearl Jam also make appearances in the convicted's defense.

Next up is the 2012 separate documentary on the subject West of Memphis  and I hear that later this year they are releasing a film depicting the case  starring Reese Witherspoon & Colin Firth called The Devil's Knot.

Im interested in this.  Can you go into a little more detail in what its about.  I know i could just google it but id rather have someones personal opinion that i "know" than some random bloggers review.

Also, i just watched Transsiberian: Honestly i wasnt impressed at all. I think it was pretty predictable and just a blah story line.  On a side note, that red head is incredibly beautiful, i dont know her name.

  3. Yeah I know a lot of people are big on him in Departed, Gjango Unchained and Gatsby, but I really liked him in Body of Lies. Mark Strong played a good Jordanian. And Kingdom was something different. I do own both of them. I remember talking about Kingdom in my first Arabic class at Anne Arundel Community College. My classmates and I remember hearing the word "sayaara" for car. I can pick up quite a bit of Arabic in both of em now. Moving on to the advanced level courses in the Summer.

I think my favorite Leo movie would have to be Blood Diamond, i was extremely impressed

  4. Another good one is Return of the Living Dead 2. "Brenda!!! But Brenda your brains smell so good and rich and...and spicy." I'll never forget the time I saw that on Comedy Central. Gonna go watch either Body of Lies or The Kingdom since they have Arabic. My streak of a B or higher in college-level language courses is still strong. Another B in Arabic 205 this semester.

Two great choices, im sure you have seen them already.  Leo is such a great actor, one of my favs.

  5. Well you and I seem to like the same type of movies so I'm definitely gonna watch it soon. And I don't base my decision on watching a movie if someone ranks it bad or good. It's just another factor I add in for myself. If someone says a 2/10 or 8/10 for something I think it's notable. Might just be me though lol

Thats a good point.  I think you will like it, i will actually watch it again tomorow...im actually excited to watch it again lol

  6. Thinking about renting it. Is it as confusing as it looks? (To me anyway).

How would you rank it out of 10??

i dont think its a good idea to ask others rankings of movies because might give you a higher expectation...If i were to rank it though, since you asked, i would prolly say a 9.  To me its just an awesome experience and easily worth the rent

  7. Well Charles could go on just as much since he was in the Marines. My friend was in 2/8 Fox Company in al-Anbar in 2006 and then in Ramadi in 2008. He hated Jarhead, saying it was way too Hollywood and I completely agree. In my opinion, he was trying way too hard to fit in among his peers. This could be how the actual Marine acted, but I wouldn't know because I haven't read the book. Best examples are the part where he wants to watch the cheating wife again, the media scene and the part where he holds the gun to the other Marine's head. My friend said the last two scenes I mentioned would be grounds for a court martial and the first and 2nd scenes I mentioned are just him acting like the odd man out. When I see those scenes, the first word that comes to mind is d-bag.  I get it's trying to chronicle the down time during war, which my friend encountered in his second tour, but it was just way too long. They could've cut a good half hour to an hour out of it and it may have been better. As for End of Watch, I think it's worth a rental, but I really think Gyllenhaal's best movie is Donnie Darko.

Interesting take on it and i can agree with most of it.  As far as the grounds of court marshal, all depends if someone turns him in, which i would think someone would, he was clearly losing it.  I dont think he played the part that bad if thats how he was suppose to, if thats what was in the script i think he did just fine.  As far as the cheating wife scene...ive seen some rather messed up situations a lot worse than that one in person.  Dont get me wrong, im not saying i liked the movie, i was just curious on the hate it gets.

  8. Just watched End of Watch...smh. Thought I saw someone on here say the soundtrack was good. Didn't find it too appealing. Also, like Jarhead, Gyllenhal seemed to be on a mission to ruin the image of another profession. Generation Kill and Pacific probably had the best depictions of Marines. Gyllenhal's in Jarhead was awful. I liked the interactions with the people on the street when they made arrests, but even those seemed unrealistic. I'm no prude, but they could've cut down on the language more. And Michael Pena fighting the one guy...smh. Also didn't like how they didn't search further or look more alert after they found something still hot on the stove in the one house. Just way too many discrepancies in this movie. I have a family member in law enforcement and he acts nothing like this.  Also with their accuracy (they hit almost everything they shot at and when they hit it, it was always a kill shot.), why weren't they in SWAT?  I can't tell you how many times I've watched cops and they fire dozens of rounds and don't hit anything.  I have no disrespect for law enforcement, but this movie is a disgrace to it. I could go on and on, but it would just turn into a ten-page essay.

Curious...how did you find Gyllenhal horrible in Jarhead?

  9. Wow, just wow.  I just watched Warrior and I can't find the words to describe just how amazing this movie is.  It got overlooked because it came out around the time The Fighter did, but it is so much more.  It's everything I wanted The Fighter to be.  It's better than the original Rocky, this is one of my favorite movies of all time.  Incredible movie, it had an emotionally stirring and relatable plot and the fight scenes were some of the best I've seen staged on film.  If you haven't seen this movie yet, you need to.  It's on Netflix streaming.

This.  That movie was easy to connect with the characters because the brothers were both going through their own ordeal and felt sympathy for them, i absolutely love it, instantly made my top ten.  Ironically i have 3 fighting movies in my top ten: cinderella man, rocky, and warrior.  I cant put warrior in front of rocky, although it was a better watch, i dont know what it is about rocky that just does it for me.  Insane that stalone couldnt find anyone to finance that movie and waited years to do it himself.  But yes, warrior is an absolute must watch.

Sidenote, after going through 3 pages of music debate....i learned nothing.

Just watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, good watch, only the second time ive seen it too.

  10. I watched Heavyweights. A classic. I have Ben Stiller's weird pushup face as my friend's contact pic cause my friend would always do that at track practice in high school and I'd be done. "Now I eat success for breakfast...with skim milk." "I'm doggin it, Pat I'm doggin it!"

Reminds me of his character in dodgeball...

  11. better have a couple of wine bottles ready or you'll think your head's spinning from the film's timeline; there's no acting to it, just the time-travel story, don't try to understand it, just let it flow and water it down with that wine; then read what it all meant from wikipedia

i went in not knowing anything about it other than what some people stated here.  I liked the mystery, then bam! mind raped....i wonder how much it cost to make and and much money it made, not the best quality.

  12. allright guys im needing some advice on core work outs.  Right now im 5'9 166 and 11% body fat.  I dont have a visible six pack, obviously i would like to have one, especially with lake season approaching.  Right now my core work outs consist of 2 sets of the 8min abs on youtube, 3 sets of 30 second planks, thats a bout it.  i know i lack cardio, mainly because of my torn meniscus while i was in the Marines.  Also, i dont know much about the nutrition aspect, so if anyone could recommend a good read up so i know im eating healthy, that would be awesome.  I mainly stick to fish and skinless chicken breast, eggs, protein bar and shake.

  13. So I watched Fight Club last night cause it had been a while since I'd seen it. Still don't get why this is a mandatory movie to watch if you're a man.  If I wanna see a movie with the same twist, I prefer Secret Window with Johnny Depp. I like Meat Loaf, because Bob had...lol. But that's really it. In fact, I just queued up Secret Window and kicked it to #1. Gonna be seeing Iron Man 3 this weekend. Also wanna see Oblivion, but I'm busy with finals, so I'll have to wait til Saturday next week.

To me Fight Club is amazing because its not just a straight forward movie and it requires some thinking.  Its also just not about dudes fighting, its a premise of life, i loved what pitt was saying and preaching the whole movie: about how life shouldnt be about material things, or you shouldnt be the way people want you to be aka the calvin klein quote in the movies

  15. Sci-Fi / alien stuff?

yea...other than the obvious Aliens, Predator, District 9.  I love that scientific stuff.

Don't download movies, just stream them.  No need to slow down your computer.

I down load them and then transfer them to an external hard drive.  I have a pretty good sized movie collection

I'm ashamed to say I've never seen that. If its on Netflix then it will be watched today

Referring to fight club...you should be ashamed.

Gangster Squad is the corniest gangster movie I've ever seen. I think it sucked, pissed off right now lol.

Sean Penn killed it atleast. He looked too much like Freddy Kruger though

haha i loved that movie.  Although i didnt like ryan goslings character very much.  I thought he was corny for sure.

On a Side note: Ive been on a breaking bad kick the last week.  Ive watched all 4 seasons, will prolly start on the 5th today.  Easily one of the best written shows ive ever watched.  Pinkman (i dont know his real name) does an amazing job acting, as does walt

Broken city- i wasnt too impressed.  I guess its worth watching.  I think the story line was too obvious
