Can we just have ONE offseason where people don't get fined or in trouble? This is starting to get irritating if it isn't already. These  guys are grown men, and are getting paid big money doing someone some of us could only dream of. How about they start acting like me and taking advantage of their opportunities...

If Will Hill hadn't been suspended multiple times before for this same thing he would have never been on the team to begin with. So I don't think this is unexpected.  It is like signing Johnny Manziel now and getting upset that he is going to nightclubs before games.  We knew what we were getting we were willing to take the risk.

The FO handled the whole thing poorly. Release him and say that he's getting suspended. Don't try to make it seem like a money move when we have far worse contracts on the books.

Everyone here is trying to justify the release when any sane individual knew it was a bad move money wise and talent wise.

You mean because you had to wait an hour to find out he had been suspended?   What if it was the other way around?  He got suspended and we had to wait an hour to hear he was released?  Then people would be yelling on here an hour for him to be released. Man a whole hour some people in the world are spoiled.

He said cap hit, not cap savings.... Try reading next time. Maybe it wasn't worded clearly enough for you but he never said we'd save 9.5 or 4.5 by cutting either.

Yes, depth good. $9M on the bench, however, is not good. Hell, $4M on the bench isn't good.

His cap hit is only relevant to savings if he is cut.  That was just structured that way to save money to the team in the past years.   No one cares what his total cap hit is.  They just want to know the real cap hit for keeping him on the team...

The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec speculates Ravens SS Will Hill could be a cap cut following the signing of FS Eric Weddle.

Lardarius Webb's $9.5 million cap hit would be the most obvious cut, but Baltimore has made it clear they see Webb as a starting safety this season. Hill was the Ravens' best safety last year, but it could be difficult to justify his nearly $4.6 million cap hit if he is riding the bench. That said, Webb should be asked to play in the slot in sub packages, and both Webb and Weddle profile more as free safeties. It is possible all three are on the field together for the majority of the snaps in 2016. If anyone is getting cut, mega-bust Matt Elam might be the best candidate.

Hard to take a journalist serious if he doesn't even know the facts.  Cutting Webb would save 3.5 million dollars in cap hit.  Will Hill 2.8 million.   Why are these guys so against depth?  Webb and Will Hill are still much better than the practice squad filching we have been doing to man our secondary the past couple of years.

My only other problem with this signing is why did we do the restructures to Jimmy, Yanda and whoever else if I missed one? I truly hate restructuring Jimmy because of his injury history.

I figured we'd learn a lesson from the Steelers and stop kicking the dead money can down the road.

We have, what it seems 25 Safeties and TE's on this team. Why couldn't we just release 3-4 of them and come up with the money to sign him?

I know someone will respond with, well, the cap is continuing to sky rocket so we will be fine. That doesn't matter. We will still have dead money that won't be able to be used while the rest of the league will have that money to spend. I figured we would have learned our lesson the past couple years with Pitta and Rice. The amount of dead money with them has put us in one of the worst cap situations in the league.

Well I think Ozzie is putting us in a bad situation down the road.  I think he knows this is a big year for him. If the team makes the playoffs he is secure in his job. If the team self-destructs again it won't look good for Ozzie.  After the super bowl they didn't try to keep anyone. I think that would have been the time to kick the can down the road. Now they should be re-building.  But I am not the one who's job is on the line.

You know I just read a report on CNN on Marijuana for pain relief for NFL players. I was surprised that the mantle for this philosophy of pain relief through use of Marijuana is being propagated by none other than our own Eugene Monroe. I have no issues with this at all but the fact that he has the time to be the front man for social issues but doesn't take the time to suit up even with minor injuries is puzzling to me.

Now, after letting K.O go, we have no alternative but to hope that Monroe actually plays LT for us for 16 games this year. But, with him talking about NFL players being in constant pain and needing Marijuana to cope with it tells me that there is a possibility (not certainty by any means) that he had done it. With current NFL rules, that is a recipe for disaster in my view. If nothing else, he is going to be targeted a lot more for dope tests than others. Hopefully, the Ravens can renegotiate his contract and insert language that protects them in the event he is suspended for Marijuana usage. I don't care about him taking a pay cut, but I do want some protection clauses inserted into his contract to protect the Ravens.

    Here is the article:

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/09/health/nfl-marijuana-ban-eugene-monroe/index.html

You think a player is going to agree to change his contract against his benefit?  Some of the stuff people come up with.  And how do you know his injuries are minor? He has played football for a long time I am sure he has serious injuries.  He had a concussion the first game of the season.  He had a shoulder injury the third game of the season for which he had surgery for after the season.   I like how everyone just belittles players injuries like they could last one day in the NFL

As long as he can still play, I don't have a problem.

What I don't get it where this puts Webb, Elam, and Brooks.

Not bashing Ozzie, I just don't understand how we fit all these safeties somewhere. Even if Webb splits nickle with someone, that leaves a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick the odd men out which makes for a very disappointing use of high draft picks. Maybe Elam gets traded and Brooks becomes the guy after Weddle starts to decline? Someone make sense of this for me please

Elam was the 32nd player taken. That is a second round pick this year.   I don't see what that has anything to do with whether he plays or not now.  He hasn't played like a first round player.  He was injured all of last year.   He will most likely be gone after this season anyway.   Bad pick.  You deal with it and move on. I don't think Elam has anything much in trade value.

I was just thinking the same thing! Dam if Ozzie does and dam if he don't?. Can't please everyone, but I'm pretty sure Ozzie's not really worried about pleasing everyone anyways. People will complain no matter what. I'm happy though, and will be happy if we could get Mike Wallace for cheap!

Ozzie is trying to stay an NFL GM.  Another 5-11 season and he could be unemployed.  I don't know if Weddle is the answer but I prefer on spending a bunch on a couple of quality guys than the usual signing 5 or 6 guys for a couple million who are all terrible.

FWIW, cutting Webb could make sense. I mean his cap hit is mean and it seems certain he won't be beating out Weddle for the starting job. He also doesn't have the ability to play on the outside. It makes sense cutting him, Lewis I can imagine being on ST or getting cut, but I would say ST, his cap hit is rather small.

I don't think you would cut Webb.  He plays decent enough Corner.  You need quality reserves.  So when someone gets injured your season isn't over.  Cutting Webb only save 3.5 million.   I don't understand all this cut this guy, cut that guy.  We need more depth.   Elam can play special team and so could Will Hill.  Webb can return punts.

  10. If the team is really about best player available than it really doesn't matter that Osemele is going to the Raiders.  It shouldn't effect their selection.  They can always hope for the best for Monroe and pick a tackle in the latter rounds.  Or get one in the free agent market.  If they think someone like Bosa is going to be a beast and Stanley is going to just be a steady left tackle than they would be fools to take Stanley.

Is a suspended license REALLY worth being arrested over? Don't cops have enough to do? Guess Arizona doesn't have much going on.

Yes it is.  If they don't arrest you for driving with a suspended license what is the point of suspending your license?

  12. Ozzie didn't get rid of Oher.  He left for a big pay day in free-agency.  But he definitely was not the solution for the Ravens at left tackle.  I don't know how you can praise Ozzie in this situation as he did use a first round pick on Oher.  Well actually a first and a fifth as he traded up to get him.

Who hurts more, Arthur Brown or Sergio Kindle? ?

Neither one hurts us that much.   Sergio Kindle fell to the second round because of character issues.  His lack of performance due to off-field issues was predicted by other teams.    Arthur Brown was not a late second round pick because of his lack of size and not being that good.  I guess they are just lessons learned for the scouts and Ozzie and company of what not to do.  No use crying over spilled milk.  Move on and don't make the same mistakes again.

Kindle by a landslide. He had difference making talent.

Weve found other MLB's in Mosley and Smith who have been great starters at that position.

We haven't found a stud pass rusher and it's arguably the biggest need on the team.

Also the fact that Kindle had a freak accident and we never even got to see what he could have been.... Man, still hurts.

He never studied the playbook and was always out partying. He would have never done anything in the NFL if he hadn't been injured.  Why do people continue to blame it on his injury completely?

the difference between brown and elam is that elam still has some value as a depth guy, obviously a bust as he does not seem to be worth a first round selection, but still brings secondary depth to a team that desperately needs it, i think if he is on a snap count and given assignments that he doesnt have to overthink than he could be solid.

arthur brown on the other hand, needs his hand held, he has zero anticipation, zero awareness, he gets flat out embarrassed everytime he tries to cover a route, the only thing he has ever looked good at was the delayed blitz, and he cant even make the active roster let alone get a spot on the field. i hate to say it, because i was a huge fan of his, but i think hes done in this league. maybe a 4-3 team takes him and it clicks for him but i doubt it

Elam was the 32nd pick in the draft.  This year the 32nd pick is a second round pick.   I think Elam should get a chance as he has contributed in the past.   Arhur Brown has never even played.  He is like Sergio Kindle.  I don't see what the team ever saw in Brown. I watched his college tape after he was drafted and first off he looked too small for the NFL and second he didn't seem all that good. Total loss for why they would trade up for him.

lol     If "some people" could see past their nose they would realize why the stats haven't been comparable.

Agreed, and most likely, the contract will be more of a "full body of work" kind of thing.

But even the biggest Flacco supporter, like me, would say that he hasn't exactly been that great for most of his big contract so far. Had a very good 2014, but was basically below average by any possible metric in 2013 and 2015. We can say that there are a lot of factors that cause that, and we'd be right in saying that, but those were arguably some of his worst seasons as a pro.

In all reality, my deal was very close to the same one that RSR proposed, they had it as a six year, $125M deal, so just about $1M a year more.

The kicker, though, is that people will look at this and say "OK, $20M a year on average, so his cap hits should be in that range the whole time correct?". But that's not the case, because we aren't accounting for the dead money from his current deal, which is substantial. As of right now, there's still $25.85M of dead money on Joe's existing contract. That needs to be spread out over the next three years, regardless of whether he signs an extension or not.

So basically, that 6 year, $120M new deal becomes a 6 year, $146M deal when accounting for the existing dead money, so the average cap impact would be roughly $24-$25M a year.

So if the Cap hit is 25 million a year I would say don't do the extension.  The only way it really helps us with the cap this year is if you put the higher paying years towards the end of the deal and you are in the exact same place as you are now in 3 years. Just pay him what he is owed and do an extension next year when we could actually use the pressure of threatening to cut him to get the team a better deal

Forget that quote... The best quote of that article
    "Alright. This isnt too bad"

    Ridiculous

Could you imagine if that was Ben?  "I thought my knee detached completely.  The pain was so intense I couldn't even see straight"

Flacco is easily the toughest AFCN QB and one of the toughest in the league.  Rivers gets my respect also

I am not a Roethlisberger fan but he has been hit hard so many times in his career and he gets up and plays most of the time.  I think to use Ben as an example of Quaterback who aren't tough is not a good one.

  18. I can't wait to bump this thread when our season is tanking next year

So you want the team have a bad season next year so you can be right about Pees?  Also why wouldn't you post it in the Fire Harbaugh thread as he is obviously doesn't even know as much about football as you as he was keeping Pees when he should have known he was the reason the team was bad?

    0

  19. Can't tell if sarcasm... or...? Harbaugh is one of the reasons we won the super bowl. He's the person who brought the team back from their mutiny, and coached this team on a wave of emotion to a Lombardi. He's the person who shifted the OL going into the playoffs, who called the safety to end it all. He's also out-coached Tomlin 8-3 in the last 11 meetings, made a run at NE with 19 starters on IR last year, and kept this team from going 2-14 this year.

The homerism over Reed is insane. I love the guy, but who knows if he'll be any good as a coach, and personally I couldn't care less to find out w/the Ravens on his first try.

Brought back the team from mutiny? If they practice with pads that week who knows if they win the super bowl.   Tomlin is an awful coach.  Everyone said Reed and Lewis spent a ton of time studying film during the week.  Reed always seemed to know what the opposing QB was doing.  You are giving Harbaugh credit for the team going 5-11?  Well than you would be happy with just about every coach who ever coached in the NFL.  As most can get a 5-11 season out of a team.
