There is zero chance we beat them with Claussen starting. Maybe if someone else starts and Big Ben gets injured early. I don't really see much chance of us coming out on top. They just beat the Bengals and Broncos in back to back games.
I can't find something more recent, but going into last season, Harbaugh was 6th in the NFL at percentage of challenges won
http://misterelevant.com/2014/08/12/the-coaching-challenge-challenge-flag-success-rates/
Less than 50 percent and a lot of those challenges would not be big deal even if we won. I guess coaches throughout the league challenge too many plays that they won't win.
Fire the coaches and get rid of all the guys who aren't performing. Take the hit this year. Let next year should be building for 2017. Cut Monroe, Daryl Smith, Pitta, Lavar Arrington. Trade Elvis. Let Tucker go in free agency. A kicker isn't going to put us over the top.
We need to get young. We need a fresh approach.
I don't think you understand how these things work. Cap hits and amount the player receives in the year are not the same number. Flacco will likely increase the amount he makes next year and still lower his cap hit. It'll be a bonus that will be spread across an extension. Now, I'm not agreeing with anyone who thinks it will be lowered by $10M. I think it'll be more like 5-8, but still a decent boost.
It is just kicking the can down the road. I would rather just give up on next year and release guys like Monroe and Pitta and not re-negotiate Flacco. Get as much money off the books for 2017. Have another bad season in 2016 like we will either way.
Can we use the franchise tag and if so do you know how much it would cost or if it would be smart even.
We can use the franchise tag on Osemele. This past year franchise tag for an Offensive lineman was 12.9 million. This upcoming year will be more. We cannot fit that amount of money into our cap number.
I actually think this game will be closer than people think.
So we lose by 30?
Your mistake is assuming I said he should have benched him. Harbaugh makes these calls you should get a message to him. Besides, QB and RB are two totally different balls of wax. Bad comparison period. Plus, two games back to back, what coach is gonna put up with that? Oh you would...that's who.
It is not just Allen. He has let go two returners because they fumbled.
He has fumbled the last two games.
Claussen has thrown interceptions last two games. Why not bench him?
I liked the pants. The highlight of the game was the new pants.
Allen with the fumbling....he would definitely be a spectator were we healthy at all.
Every running back in the NFL has fumbles. Jamal Lewis fumbled 8 times in back to back seasons. Harbaugh is an idiot. Why not bench Flacco when he throws an interception. Sorry Harbaugh continually overreacts to a single play in a game.
MOM-GENE,,,
hey you sound angry, I got dinged for so many question marks and exclamation marks, this is just a discussion . you make a point and get a response. lets be civil.
now with that said, I am all in for my RAVENS,, always have been and always will be. what a lot of people here do is create excuses, we can not accept mediocrity or we end up like the --------- (not to be mean), will not name team names. But its fans like you and me that will continue to see things different. its ok,, we are fans , I love my city (west side pimlico rd) my state and my team..
How many points did we average on offense at our best this year what around 28 points, defense gave up 34 and plus 30 last week, you have never heard me being critical of our offense, heck , I like claussen over schaub, I may be a part of the few that likes our OC,he has done alot with little what can he do with alot, hhmmmmm,,
I am extremely hard on HARB and our DC,, our defense should not have fallen that far off with Suggs out the line up, very poor schemes, Harb has always made bone headed mistakes, that fake punt was insane.
anyway wrote way too much,, we are making points not making angry gestures because we disagree.
Defense didn't give up 34 this week. Didn't you see the pick six and the fumble. Also if you aren't going to eat up clock and keep giving the ball back over to the other team the defense will eventually give up points. In the Seahawks game the Ravens defense played well the first half. Claussen is terrible and should never play in the NFL again.
Could we franchise tag KO, any benefit to that?
Franchise tag for offensive lineman next year would be close to 14 million. Osemele isn't worth that and we don't have that kind of salary cap space anyway. Everyone just has to realize he will be on a new team next year and deal with it.
I don't really know how to read into the KO at LT move. Are we seeing if he is worth re-signing as a LT? Or are we showcasing him as a possible LT/Pro-bowl LG for other teams in FA? (to net a better comp. pick).
We could afford to sign him if we just back-load his contract (which is par for the course anyway). I'm eager to see how he plays out the season.
Neither. We are giving Jensen a chance to show whether he is a starting guard. Osemele is as good as gone. I am sure he will get a pretty good contract.
Teryl Austin should have been our DC even if it was a one or two year rental. He's a defensive mastermind but Harbaugh just can't concede defeat with the guys that he picks as coordinators and it really hurts us. As long as Pees is here, we will remain a really bad defensive team.
It has nothing to do with the lack of talent on the defensive end?
Starting to wonder what's going on behind closed doors at the castle. Bisciotti can't be happy, and Harbs looks like he hasn't slept since week one. No one expects us to win with the JV squad, but there's more to it than just that.
I'm thinking some big changes might be on the horizon for this organziation. Maybe nothing too drastic, but what better time would there be to assess this team's ideology and foundation? 2016 can't come soon enough.
That is what I have been saying all along. If you end up being the worst team inn the league someone is getting fired. Part of the issue is the guys we have signed to big deals are not performing and don't look like they will peform at that level in the future: Pitta, Webb, Jimmy Smith, Monroe all have long deals that we will basically are stuck with. Plus the young guys have not developed. The defense is pretty healthy except for Suggs and the guys we have just aren't very good. Yet they mostly all have big contracts or were drafted pretty high.
You cant look at it that way though. Only reason we were able to get Doom was because the money freed up from boldin. Besides we couldnt afford to pay Torrey, SSr, and Boldin, thats not even logical if you take in account the salary cap, which is kind of important.
And the Taylor thing is literally hindsight, he deserves to be a starter in Buffalo imo and he doesnt have that chance here. Its easier to sit here and say all these "what ifs" but they arent logical, especially years later.
I dont pretend to be some salary cap genius or anything, hell, most of the times i have to ask others on here, but i know enough to know whats logical, which why proposing certain things are pointless when you take into account the salary cap.
I am responding to someone saying what players from the Super Bowl team would be useful. Tyrod Taylor wouldn't have stayed here he wanted to be a starter. I think affording Boldin is something that could have been done. We only save a couple million on him. The team made a lot of bad contract extensions. And picking the wrong players to release and the wrong to keep. The team isn't going to be good next year. There is no money to get good players.
If he plays well at left tackle there is no way we can pay him as he would make even more money than a guard. Franchise tag would cost way too much. There is no Cap room. He is as good as gone.
Well left tackles tend to make more money in free agency. Maybe if Osemle plays well at left tackle he will get a bigger contract from his new team and the Ravens will get a better comp pick.
I thought you could designate one player as a post June 1st and immediately receive those cap savings?
I think it just gives you money to sign your draft picks and other late cuts.
I don't know, if they post June 1st designate Monroe, that's like $6.6M. It pushes some dead money into 2017, but keeps a longterm LT option in the house.
Yeah but you would have to sign Osemele before cutting Monroe. It is not like he is going to be around until June 1st.
Agreed here, so sick of this line of thinking. Of all of the players from that 2012 team that aren't here anymore only McPhee, Graham and Boldin would be of use to us, and realistically we were never going to keep McPhee or Graham.
Torrey Smith would be useful to us. Adding Torrey and Boldin to Steve Smith and Aiken would have given Flacco plenty of targets. Also now that Flacco is injured Tyrod Taylor would be an upgrade over who we have at QB.
I really liked what I saw from Osemele at LT today. If there is any possible way we can unload Monroe without taking it on the chin and resign Osemele then we may have our future LT. I know it was just one game, but if we could have that happen and still get Tunsil or Stanley in round 1 then we would have a very good group of versatile lineman.
We probably can't afford Osemele.
We should finish up 4-12, will that be the Raven's worst record ever? I'm not certain.
Currently we are fighting with the Browns, Titans and Chargers for the number 1 pick. We beat the Chargers so that could work against us.
It's not just the good draft position for the 1st round........its every round and dang do we need it.
The Seahawks proved This Draft is probably as important as 1996.
I don't know but we will probably drafting in a good position in 2017 as well.
If we cut him in the offseason we'd save $2.1 million, but have $6.6 million of dead money on the books. If we cut him the year after that we'd save closer to $4.5 million, so I think he's going to play next season at least.
Yeah even if we drafted a left tack in the first round it would be worth 2 million to have a back up tackle that could step right in.

Seems like a waste of money to pay a kicker that much. Tucker wasn't even drafted. We can get someone out of college making the minimum. He might not be as good as Tucker but a high paid kicker is a luxury we can't afford with all the holes in the team we have.
