  1. At this point I hope they pull out all the stops for Dennison to stay.  One caveat:  If Harbs thinks Pariani understands Kub's system better then Iet it be him and Kubiak can take Dennison with him.

The offense accomplished so much with this offensive system.  A fourth, new system just puts Joe & Co. back another year or more if the new system doesn't "take" in year one.

Trestman's offense could be closest to Kubiaks system sso its not a total redo.  If Gase was not going to be a head coach his offense would could be as successful as Kubiak's, BUT we need new faces in order to make it work.  That means Torrey, Forsett, and Daniels might not be back.

  2. Close thread.

Hey, we can dream can't we?  He is absolutely ny favorite receiver and have hope him to be a Raven since college.  Alas, he will cost a fortune and him on roster roster would leave too many hole open.  On the other hand, whoever thought we'd ever have Suggs and a Dume on the same team?  Stranger things have happened.

  3. How much does Fitz have left in the tank really?  He hasn't cracked a 1000 yards since 2011.  I think at 32 and the high mileage on his frame he's a gamble for any team even the Cardinals if he returns.  He was also outgained by Michael Floyd this year.

If they can't make a fair deal happen with Torrey they'll need to find his production or better in free agency.  Torrey is still a great receiver for us.  If you look at his stats his 767 receivng yds are his worst of his career.  However, he added another 229 yards on 11 regular season PI call yards making the total more like 996 yards.  He drew 2 PF calls for 15 yards each bringing his overall receiving "production" to 1,026 yards.  That's also another 13 combined first fowns to his credit as well.  Throw in his career best 11 TDs and its harder to replace that production.

That means you're looking at the best in free agency and that won't come cheap.  Torrey may actually be the best value receiver out there.  realistic players in his range are then Randall Cobb, Cecil Shorts, Jeremy Maclin, Crabtree,

Great value/2nd tier receivers could be:  Kamar Aiken, Brandon Tate, Hakeem Nicks, Jarret Boykin, Denarius Moore, Eddie Royal, Nate Washington.

  4. I agree with all the sentiment about the quarterbacks hes played and obviously better corners make better throws, but shouldn't we look at the wide receivers hes had to cover as well? I'm not really a good tape guy or anything so someone may have to help me out here, but he held up pretty well in jacksonville, and although they have a lot of rookie wide receivers and cecil shorts, their wide receiver core is not a bunch of slouches. Also in Houston wouldnt he have been covering either deandre hopkins or andre johnson? Obviously those are two tremendous wide receiver talents. Also the guy has 17 tackles but I saw a stat somewhere that says hes only given up 4 receptions, so this guy is obviously sticking his nose into more plays than just the ones targeting his receiver. I like the guy, he's brought a fire and excitement to the team, not calling him the next coming and we obviously need to see where he goes from here, but for now he's all we got and I'm more than happy to roll with him versus most of the other guys we've thrown out there this year

Well said.  There is not many other DBs left at this point that can step up the way he did.

  5. Melvin is still raw, but I'm glad he's here.  His play has been wild and fiery which is the reason for the penalties.  His spirit was missing back there earlier this season.   If he can be as good as Williams then that is a victory in and of itself.

I'm hoping he can continue his development through this post season and thru next season.  Despite the mistakes, I don't think we make the play-offs without him.

  6. Lets not laugh too loudly about the Steelers off the field issues. We can't forget how bad it was for the Ravens after the season ending and training camp started.

Laugh?  No.  Feel some relief?  Yesssss.  Bell and Blount are going to be a buzzsaw on defenses.  A double suspension would give the AFC North opponents a clear advantage during their time off.

  7. I;m not sure it's been said in the previous 9 pages of text, but Flowers was cut b/c he was going to be paid $5.25M and wasn't a hit in dead money.  From the last spotrac.com assessment the Ravens have about $5.5M in cap space.  Someone of his abilities may be worth too much on the open market unless he willing to take a lower deal because coming ere is what he wants.  If that happens I can see The Wiz cutting few dead branches to have him here, but he he'd have to know he'd be our new Samari Rolle - not the top guy and an every-down CB in a role playing capacity.

The Ravens really are more likely to net a guuy like Chris Johnson recent cut from the Lions because of injury.  He's a similar caliber player about the same age and experience, but can be had for much less in a "prove it" one year, low-cost deal like Daryl Smith.

  8. One workout won't mean the end of his time as a Raven.  Rust was expected in hiis workout and even Jacoby failed a conditioning test after his stint on DWTS the first time that year.

Truth is we don't what to expect from a "re-invented Rolando McClain.  Greatness?  Same ol', same ol'?  Could've been a number of legit reasons for being late or to judge him for it as if none of us ever have been late to work before?  Might as well fire the lot of us now.

Ozzie sees something in the kid - maybe feels for him.  I think he wants to help him the best he can.  We ALL deserve second chances,  i know I feel like I've deserve one.  Two even.  All this banter is meaningless.  Ozzie will decide when and if McClain should be on the team and 99% of us here will agree in the end because, by and large, we trust what Ozzie thinks when it comes to the team.

    Peace.

  9. Hardly foolish.  He didn't get a fair shake in Houston because of Wade Philips.  In the 5 games with the Jets he started, Reed had 3 INTs for 49 yrds and 4 PDs.  Not too bad.

Has he lost a step?  Yes.

Is he a full time starter?  No.

Can he lead by example, share his passion for analyzing film, and impart his experience breaking down offenses?  Hell yeah!

The 2013 draft class missed out on so much by not have either Reed or Lewis as living legend to the Ravens-way in defense.  It showed too.  Also, Reed wouldn't have to be (or is expected to be) a full time starter either at his age.

  10. He's has something left in the tank and he can play both free and strong safety.  It would eliminate the need/pressure to draft a free safety for a year or two and dedicate those picks to OL, WR, TE.  He also fits Ozzie's value-grab profile - proven vet, but was released out-right and coming off an injury.  He may even come at a 1 year deal, but is a safe bet on 2-3 year deal.

...either that or reunite with Ed Reed for a 1 year deal...
