  1. There's a differece be tween being an X's and O's strategist and a game day tactician. It's one thing to fire up your teammates and to mae on field adjustments, but its another entirely to prepare a game plan fo the entire defense all week, give assignements and run drills. Like I said, make him the LB coach and see where it goes...and also, he doesn;t want to coach right now, like RaineV1 said.
  2. Just going to post the exact same thing. The only thing I can can add is that you make your own luck. Discipline is part of that. For a team that's used to doing jujst that for years, for the life of me I don't kow what has changed. It's like they came into this season defeated.
  3. Laughable. I'd take him as a linebackers coach for a few seasons and see where that goes.
  4. Got his left foot rolled over and hyper-extended. Carted off field and taken to the hospital. I think he's probably done for the season, but they pulled off the win against Oakland with Landry Jones. Have to wonder if this is a serious injury if he'll consider hanging it up sooner than later. Players in the mid-30's are start feeling their age and Jones seems to be developing nicely for them.
  5. Someone got stuck on the Holy Grail theme. Raven's 1-6: "i'm not dead yet." Ravens's 2-6: "I'm feeling a quite better." 3-6 Ravens: "Always look on the bright side of life!"
  6. It's a damn shame for such a good player and great person to have to face hanging up his cleats in his prime. He could've been one of the top TEs in the biz right now. It would seem like his playing day in Baltimore are over. Whatever he decides I wish him the very best. He's been a class act since day one!
  7. Milking it. There's no way a PCL takes this long and many players have played with partially torn ones. Either he's not mentally ready to play and milking it or there's some other bigger issue going on. In either scenario, I think he's ready to be IR'ed the rest of the season. Such a disappointment. Had high hope for him.
  8. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000574822/article/wes-welker-continues-to-look-for-another-chance The dude, is itting out there fully recovered and checks so many boxes for our needs at WR. He's appeantly worked with a top concussion doctor and he's the best been since 2013, but is still sitting at home. He is what they hoped to make Campanaro into, so why not take a flier on the original for half a season? And with Smith Sr's future up in the air (was going to retire anyway) why not get another (younger) veteran to lead the offense. As and added bonus he's famiuliar with both the Broncos and Patriots systems which would help both out offense and defense. Best part is that he's desperate enough to play that he'll likely come at the vet minimum with the possibility of hanging around for 2016-17. Make his contract incentive laden based on number of games played and protect the cap. East Peezy. So why not Welker?
  9. Rams just signed Welker. So, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement but looks like he beat out Nicks and Brown. That said we'll see him in 2 weeks. You guys better hope his brain is as much tapioca as you think because when healthy he's dangerous. If that's the case, you heard it hear, from me, first. And believe me, I hope I'm wrong. That would say more about our F.O. than anything.
  10. So if Pitta ends up in a wheel chair because of his hip (see Eric Dickerson) or Welker does because of CTE, you think that they're somehow different? What about an onfielfd collision? Either case is horrible. Forget Pitta for a moment. What about Stokely? He had consussion issues over his career and the Ravens signed and played him. You can;t just say this is "easy" without considering at least these two. The Ravens haven't let it stop them before. I don't see how you make your argument. If Welker can help us do that and is cleared to play, what harm is there in just giving him a physical and workout? That's why the only thing I can see preventing that is the Ray Lewis comments which, again, are his wife's. I'm still for winning. It the Rams sign him and go an impressive run....I don;t even want to think about it.
  11. OK, so Schefter tweeted that the Rams are expected to work out Vincent Brown, Hakeem Nicks and Welker today. So it looks like there is interest (even if Bmore holds a grudge over his wife's Ray Lewis comments) and he's not going with a bonafide contender either as has been rumored. At 4-4 they are long shots for a WC berth given their remaing schedule. So we passed on Nicks and didn;t even bring in either Welker or Brown. The Rams will likely grab one. If this it's Welker, man! this lil' ol' thread will blow up especially if he helps them to a WC berth. Funny how when you start talking about an "impossible" or "improbable" thing in te NFL and it suddenly gets a breath of air.
  12. I forgot about this. I could believe that Ozzie would discount him out of hand for that, but since it was his wife (and she issued a retraction) he may just as well let it pass if he needed him. Very good points. The biggest point is to just work him out. Stokely had his concussion issues too along with a litany of other injuries. Almost ANYTHING is better than what er have now. He had several injuries and still dealing with concussion symptoms too which would make anyone look like a shadow of themselves. The fact he's sat out a year has given his grey matter time to re-congeal and heal. He at least is worth a workout for a team now devoid of experienced WR's. What about Pitta? Hard to watch him go down with a hip everytime and he's still looking for a return. But he's still on the team. Hard to make that argument.
  13. The student has beaten the master in the last 5 matches. The master will not win any rings this year either. Tables are turned.
  14. So your answer is to throw the ball more even though we don't have the receivers to get open or make plays? SMH. No, it's hardly "running the ball for the sake of running the ball". That's what worked last year and its virtually the same offense minus Torrey Smith.. Did Torrey Smith make that much of a difference? I don't think so, and not for the money he was asking. Time to get back to what works. Let the OL focus on creating lanes for the running backs. They can use play-action. Give Joe the option of of a screen defenses are stacking the box. Kubiak proved is could be done and the players were still in place.
  15. ??? When did the Bengals go to the SB in since Baltimore got a team back?
  16. Yeah, the refs reall screwed that call. That was the worst called game in an already awful season. Nothing like rubbing salt in the wound.
  17. Going 8=0 is improbable, but not impossible. In fact it's not as crazy as it sounds since the entire AFC is depressed with so many teams at 2-3 wins. All they have to do is lock up the #6 seed against some pretty beatable teams. The rest of the boarderline AFC teams in the mix have more to overcome or are just plainly as bad as their record. The ravens really aren't as bad as 2-6 having lost some really close ones. If they play like they did for 6 out of their 1st 8 games then all is lost...likely in their first game or two back. If they can regain some semblance of a playoff caliber team they 8-0 seems more doable. Even going 7-1 may be enough to make it. And I'd rather make the play-offs at 9-7 then tank the rest of the way for a top 3 draft pick.
  18. The issues that we face now are pretty close to what the Bears faced with Trestman. In 2014 Matt Forte ran the ball less as they tried to rely on Cutler's arm. They had an awful OL and Cutler was pressured and sacked often. They had trouble with 3rd down, red zone and short yardage conversions too. And the turn overs killed that team and was the capper on Trestman's so-call QB whisperer time there. Run the Ball. That's what they built this team for in 2014 and it worked, dammit, and it was virtually the same offense! Don't change what ain't broken! And don't have too much ego to be Kubiak's "clone". Kubiak is a proven head coach and OC. You...not so much. Just use what he left you and run the freaking' ball!!! Joe will do better if you keep defenses honest with the run.
  19. You forget, sometimes the student surpasses the master. After years of teetter-tottering back and forth, the Bengals have the upper hand.
  20. They can have him. I still taste bile in my mouth everytime I read JJ is a Steeler, but he after 2012 he's been a liability. Time to take the Steelers down from the inside. JJ's suspect hands will be like having a 12th man for us against them.
  21. I can't agree with this. The Ravens have made mistakes lately in their polayers evals. They've missed on more lately for key positions than have hit. Mosely is a clear hit. Elam is a bust. Jimmy Smith is heading toward that overreach category and Perriman is a no show. I had high hopes for all these guys and they haven't produced (with the exception of CJ). Before the SB, even with a disasterous 2010 draft, they managed to find gems late. They have missed quite a bit since and made very little splashes in free agency since the too. This team was heading for this inevitable "lost season" since they went conservative with their draft picking. I assume this comes from the fear fo the cap due to Joe's bllooning 2016 salary, but they missed so often during the period of time they supposedly bought for themselves that there's no longer any buffer. Even with a Flacco contract restructure, they are now forced to surround Joe with less expensive talent in order to field 53 men under the cap. The Ravens scouting and player development has fallen flat. Hopefully this realization sparks something of what they had back before the 2012 SB.
  22. Bengals activated Vontaze Burfict off of the PUP and waived Greg Little. He's been pretty silent since 2014 and went from the Browns to the Bengal, to the Raiders then back to the Bengals. He recorded only 69 yards last season and hasn't played this season. At 6'2/220 with 4.5 speed he has the tools to be a decent #2, BUT it appears he's been unwilling to play on special teams and might have somewhat of an attitude. Anyone think the Ravens would benefit from him claiming him? His salary for 2015 is ($745k. Given that he was claimed and waived by the Raiders could he possibly clear waivers to avoid losing a comp pick? Is he simply worth the roster spot?
  23. I'm calling BS on the whole Perriman story. Read between the lines: Engram with the "I think he this and that..." speak, Harbaugh with the "slowest healing PCL in history" barb, Dr. Andrews finding nothing else wrong after the scope procedure and the indefinite time table for a return is a major give away. A strained PCL for a pro athlete is a 6 week affair at worst. Even if it was extended to 2 months, Perriman's injury now has gone well-past that deadline. No way its just a "slow healing PCL". That answer by itself holds very water. Whatever the issue is the Ravens are tight-lipped about it. Why is that given they are so very open about other injuries like Pitta's for instance? Likely, I'm thinking more and more its because they fear a PR storm about their first 1st round wide receiver selection in 10 years. I personally don't care what the issue is - I won't stop liking the team for a mistake. I won't stop liking Perriman if he was not ready for the NFL in some way. I just want the no-BS, real deal on Perriman. Otherwise it make fans fear the worst about the kid.
  24. I'll agree to a point. #1 is either the Ravens have enough faith in their players now to hold onto the draft pick, however, at one point is Ozzie's frugality with these commodities counter productive? I mean, many of these picks recently have not panned out as they hoped and getting the right vet for a few draft picks could be equally beneficial or more. With most coveted veterans thay are a proven commodity unlike even 70% of the first round picks throughout NFL history. #2 is a consolation prize. It's a "we're not winning, but at least we got..." scenario to appease angry fans. In fact, many losing teams with awful defenses have to sling the ball down field, taking chances and going for broke. Last year alone 3 losing teams ranked in the top 10 offenses with the 7-9 Saints ranked #1. The other two were 6-10 Giants (10th), 6-10 Falcons (7th). #3 is what I really think is a cause for hope. The Ravens are perhaps the best 2-6 team in NFL history. This also seems like a consolation prize except that all games this year were won or lost on a score or less (4.3pts avg). That means that every game was a winnable situation despite the mistakes, injuries, penalties, bad ref calls, etc. That means minor adjustments - not major wholesale changes - are needed. And there are too many people calling for the heads of players and coaches right now. The situation is still fixable and salvagable and, therefore, hopeful. However, anymore losses and that window is shut for good. #4 is not about hopeful to me - just good sense. This is an "accute" issue meaning that its a serious symptom, but is not a protracted "chronic" failure. As I said about #3 above, its dire but fixable and coaches, even the coordinators, will likely not be fired over it unless they finish 4-12 (worst since 1996).
  25. I'm proily in the minority here, but I'm glad they "resisted" signing him. JJ is too inconsistent and never had good hands. I think he's been more lucky than good over his career. I like what he's done for us in 2012, but that is the extent of it and he was never a relaible weapon for Joe even in his best year. We know what we get ith JJ and what he is will not be enough to capialize on the depressed play in the FC that could allow us to sneak into the #6 seed of the playoffs. I know n ext to nothing of Morgan, but I like his highlites and the potential of what he brings to the team. He looks like a young SSS to me in limited video and hopefully he can be this year's gem. I hate that we can't put Perriman on IR because they want to see what he can do IF he returns for the last month or so. Since they don't even know if he'll be back at all, it seems like a wasted roster spot imo.
