I'll agree to a point. #1 is either the Ravens have enough faith in their players now to hold onto the draft pick, however, at one point is Ozzie's frugality with these commodities counter productive? I mean, many of these picks recently have not panned out as they hoped and getting the right vet for a few draft picks could be equally beneficial or more. With most coveted veterans thay are a proven commodity unlike even 70% of the first round picks throughout NFL history. #2 is a consolation prize. It's a "we're not winning, but at least we got..." scenario to appease angry fans. In fact, many losing teams with awful defenses have to sling the ball down field, taking chances and going for broke. Last year alone 3 losing teams ranked in the top 10 offenses with the 7-9 Saints ranked #1. The other two were 6-10 Giants (10th), 6-10 Falcons (7th). #3 is what I really think is a cause for hope. The Ravens are perhaps the best 2-6 team in NFL history. This also seems like a consolation prize except that all games this year were won or lost on a score or less (4.3pts avg). That means that every game was a winnable situation despite the mistakes, injuries, penalties, bad ref calls, etc. That means minor adjustments - not major wholesale changes - are needed. And there are too many people calling for the heads of players and coaches right now. The situation is still fixable and salvagable and, therefore, hopeful. However, anymore losses and that window is shut for good. #4 is not about hopeful to me - just good sense. This is an "accute" issue meaning that its a serious symptom, but is not a protracted "chronic" failure. As I said about #3 above, its dire but fixable and coaches, even the coordinators, will likely not be fired over it unless they finish 4-12 (worst since 1996).
