  1. Yeah, that's my mom's cat. The super fat one. The only time he'll get on the counter is if he's certain there's a cap up there to steal and chase all over. Speaking of which... I have new pictures of both for everyone.

Lol yeah it is a battle to keep them thin. Nice cats btw

  2. At a position where teams will overpay for solid, LT is probably the most valuable position on the team with the exception of QB. Monroe is a top 10 LT in his prime while Daryl Smith is a ILB who is falling out of his. Daryl Smith brings intangibles a lot like Lewis did but that is not as important as protecting our investment in Flacco. His blindside is the most important area to protect and Flacco can not take a pounding like he did on that O-line again. But just because an entire unit was bad does not mean that one part can't be good. Oher played pretty bad at RT and the inside of the line with the exception of Yanda was just as bad if not worse. I am not saying Monroe was perfect but he plays a position where teams overpay for solid and Monroe is better than solid. He is the first franchise LT that we have had since Ogden and Ozzie likes Monroe enough that he gave up a 4th and a 5th rounder to obtain him. The fact that Ozzie would let such a player walk in free agency if the price is not completely insane would not be a smart move in my opinion. I get where some people are coming from in saying that he should not be overvalued but he is the most important FA we have and we need to protect our $120 million dollar investment the best way we can. Anybody else wonder what could have been had Flacco not injured his knee? Do we want to let the best QB we have ever had, take another pounding behind a bad line? If not, then we must address the most important position of said line and bring in at least another person as well as let Kubiak do his thing as OC to get this line straightened out.

Daryl Smith is important and is underrated even on these threads by some people. I really hope we can find a way to re-sign both he and Monroe. But Daryl Smith's run defense was not great and we have Arthur Brown who could replace his production. We need a solid run stuffer at ILB and while Daryl Smith is very important, his leadership can also be replaced, maybe by a FA FS on a short deal to help our young guys out in the secondary. Who would we get at LT if we lose Monroe? Albert is injured too often to be worth a massive deal and the top 3 tackles in the draft are probably going in the top 10 let alone falling to us. Collins is good on the Bengals but we would have to win a bidding war with whoever else needs a tackle in order to get him and he is still unproven. While Smith is important, I would not put him as more important than Monroe IMO.

  3. Franchise Tag numbers are set and the Tag for all OL is $11.654M.

Way more than I expected, we better get a deal done.

I would still put that tag on him in a heartbeat. I have confidence that we could get it done with the tag in place. I think both sides want to get the deal done and I think with the tag in place both sides would hammer it out. It would be ideal to get it done before the tag deadline but if we don't tag him, we will probably lose him.

  4. Based on the contracts last off-season, it seemed logical.

Clady got paid 57.5 over 5 years for Denver last year so trust me, someone will pay for Monroe if it isn't us. Even last year he would have gotten paid by someone. Frankly, I could see Monroe get 10 mil per, the question is going to be if we are willing to pay him that or is someone else going to? And I see us paying him because he is going to be that important to us unless someone pays an insane amount like the Dolphins might.

  5. So basically when the Falcco contract gets too big, the cap will have increased enough for us to be able to handle it. Good news. Now instead of putting around 1/6 of our cap for Flacco, it is going to be around 1/7.5 which is a big difference. The math is not nearly exact but I don't feel like getting any deeper than that for now. Maybe if I get some time.

  6. I like pitta but I would rather worry about Monroe then him and get a te or 2 in the draft.

True, I like a lot of the TEs in the draft but I like most of them as blockers more except the first round guys. Either way, I really really really don't want to count on a rookie LT so we need to either keep Monroe or get a good FA LT. The question is who else? Albert is good but he is injury prone, the Raiders are more than likely going to re-sign their guy, Collins on the Bengals is good but he is unproven.

  7. We apparently had around 11.3 mil in cap room before the Suggs extension which saved 4.6 mil to get us to 15.9(all of this based of the previous projected 2014 cap of 126.3 mil). Now however with this news and the cap being 3.7 mil more than expected, we will have around 19.6 mil in cap room. Factor in the 3.2 mil from cutting McClain, the 1.6 mil from cutting Koch, and the 1.75 mil from cutting Leach and we would have around 26.15 mil in cap room if those cuts are made. Now there is some spending money. I think now, we could re-sign Monroe, resign Pitta, and now we have a good chance of bringing Daryl Smith back all while having money for the RFA tenders and draft picks and such.

  8. I have to agree with everyone here. O-line comes first and I think Monroe is our top guy. If we have space for Pitta to come in and he wants a reasonable deal, then we can go with that. If not, we will either sign another TE(Brent Celek possible cap cut maybe?) or draft a guy.

  9. The one thing we should be blaming this on is the salary cap not increasing consistently despite record viewership and all the new cable contracts.

That brings up an interesting topic as well. The revenues for the new CBA factor in for the 2014 salary cap. However according to Robert Craft(a guy who apparently did a lot of work getting this CBA done and probably knows about it as much as anyone) says that the cap will have more of a smooth growth over the rest of the CBA since the TV revenue increase also comes incrementally. So I don't think there will be a magic increase but apparently it will be by a few mil per year until the CBA ends and we have a decent sized cap at that point. It is kind of complex so these articles are some good ones if you are trying to figure it out. Don't expect some magic spike in the cap numbers however.

  10. Negative 2 for my Pitta comments, eh? Please tell me which one of you thinks he is worh 11 million franchise tag that you decided to disagree with my statement.

Franchise tag for TE is worth 6.7 mil I believe. I think if Pitta won his case, no one in their right mind would give him 11.5 mil when the best in the game make around 7-8 mil at TE. Also Boldin is a touchy subject still on these boards to some. I did not neg you by the way, just saying why some might have
