I have noticed a bad habit with the way Perriman catches the ball, and that is responsible for most of his drops. If we can see it on television, why can't the coaches grill him on it so he can break that bad habit. When he reaches to catch the ball he prefers to stretch his arms out with his right hand above the left, and the back of his hand towards his face. The better way is to stretch the arms out with the left arm slightly above the right, but however the palm towards the face. His style quite frequently causes the football to clank off his hands
I don't buy your attempt at one more excuse for an underachieving QB
It's not an excuse, it's a search for an explanation on a ball that had no chance of being anything other than an interception. And if you were to think honestly and look back at history, you'd have to acknowledge that this not a typical Joe Flacco type of interception. He'll throw interceptions where a route got jumped, or he'll have an over/under/behind/in-front of off-target throw, right? But this throw was none of those things. It was just completely targeted to a spot where no receiver was running a route to. These are typically what we call "miscommunications" so that's the most obvious explanation, right? If you re-watch the play, you can see how if Waller ran a horizontal cut on that route instead of diagonal, then the throw actually starts to make sense. So, that's *a possibility* for what happened on that play. Rather than just calling it an "underachieving QB" why don't you watch the play and come back at me and explain how there is no possibility that this was anyone's fault but Flacco's, for X/Y/Z reason(s)? I'd love an actual discussion, rather than dismissal with no actual argument. I think that's fair.
I appreciate your view. On the replay it appeared that he had made up his mind that he was going to Steve Smith. The problem was that that route that Steve smith ran was sniffed out pretty early and he had no chance, and yet Flacco threw it.
I didn't understand that pass ha was intercepted when we just needed to run th clock down and keep pounding. I get the idea to try and score once more, but there was plenty of time left for that. I will not blame any one segment of the team in this game. This entire team was hot and cold today. at least we came out with the "w".
The play calling towards the end was baffling. We must have had a lot of confidence in our defense (I am not sure why) the way our last offensive drive was called. I get that we were trying to be safe run the clock and try not to turn it over, but we really didn't make any legitimate attempt at getting that first down. It would have made more sense to me if we were on the 50 but we were pinned back and gave them good field position which they capitalized on.
Agree with both of you. I think that the team especially the OC and the QB do not have a good sense of down and distance and where the game is most of the time.
That interception looked ugly as hell. The only thing I can think of is that Waller was supposed to cut horizontally across the field at the spot where he cut up diagonally. If that was the route he was supposed to run, then it looks like Joe's decision to throw and the placement of the throw might have been correct. Because if that's NOT the case, then the decision and the throw make abslutely NO sense. Personally, I'd give the benefit of the doubt to Flacco over Waller. Waller is an inexperienced player who wasn't on the active roster for a significant portion of the offseason & season, so him running the wrong route seems more likely to me. But this is why football is such a difficult game to analyze. How are we as fans supposed to know what happened on that play? But after trying to figure out why Flacco threw that horrible looking pick, it appears to me that if Waller had cut directly horizontally across the field rather than diagonally, it might have been a completion, and that the only explanation that makes any sense to me is that Waller ran the wrong route.

Well said. I actually make a policy of not reading "Byrne Identity" for that reason. To expect an expose' of The Ravens organization from none other than "baltimoreravens.com" is naive. Secondly you cannot expect a coach to be open about what happens in the locker room or with the front office.
There's a lot if issues with this team especially on the offense. We will all find out if any changes occur in the offseason. You're missing some very good insights into our team. It's a shame all you want is negativity. You're basically throwing out any reason to feel good about the team you claim to support.
I don't read novels. Thank you.
It sounds like after a 5-11 season and a tough NE loss, set up by stupid coaching decisions in several early games this year that cost games, and the pressure of having to win out is causing our coaches to be crazy.
Listening to Rosburg I thought it was really bizaare, strange, for what he said about Hester when no one caused Hester to refuse to field punts causing serious lost yards, no one forced his constant injuries this season, no one made him drop punts that hit his hands. It's just weird. Hester couldn't do it anymore, he didn't have what he once had. That happens, that's why people retire. But it wasn't his returns as he had some nice ones, it was the overly abundant ones he didn't return or muffed that cost him. Rosburgs response to releasing him was a little uncomfortable.
Marty in his presser didn't sound like he had one coherent thought through the whole thing. Rambling, talking both sides of one argument, twisting information and stories as to make it difficult to even garner any sense from it. Just his ramble about how good they have been for the most part in the 2 minute drill (uh-yeah) or when he rambled about why no runs, he didn't seem to know other than they were on his play sheet but somewhere between there, his mouth the microphone and Joes ear it just came out pass. We planned it I just don't know how I didn't call a run play IN COVER 2 all day. Opportunity didn't present itself?????? C'mon man. What's more frustrating, that he does it, or he thinks we are so stupid like there was something the Patriots did, that was so specific to stopping the run, he couldn't call a run play. Oh, except the safety he ran one, the one to the loaded side and not behind Yanda and Stanley, his best linemen.Fusuymada my friend, your life will be much less stressful once you come to the realization that anything a coach or a player says to the media is a bunch of BS with tiny bits up truth sprinkled in between. And after you peal away the BS spewed by the source you have to navigate through the BS of the author. This is especially true when the author is employed by the entity that they are writing about (a Ravens reporter writing about the Ravens). Its all propoganda fusuymada and Eisenberg is the writer hired by the Ravens that is full of the most BS.

You guys should have been cranky a LONG time ago! We were out coached badly last week. I mean man our offense couldn't complete a pass to a WR the entire first half, 2nd half comes around and it's more of the same. No adjustments, nothing new or different! This team needs an overhaul of some sort, there's no fire! Just plain and simple. Idk, it is very frustrating to watch us struggle to do anything remotely close to NFL caliber on offense, it seems like everything we run is a watered down, vanilla version of what is standard. There's nothing complex nor exciting about this offense. The negation of that is Justin Tucker doing all the work because our offense can't score TDs.
Couldn't have said it better. They said that the Patriots were rushing 3 and dropping 8 in coverage. How about then running the ball, which should be successful and force them to bring more of their players to line and which would open up the passing game.
It seems to me that when the same plan that worked agains Miami (throwing the ball down the middle to TEs) didn't work against the Patriots, they just simply threw up their hands and quit. They couldn't make the simplest of adjustments. What did the team do the entire week leading up to the patriots game?
Not sold on Campanaro. However if we have good offense, securely fair catching ball would be sufficient.
There are some comments here that the Cardinals have released Michael Floyd. If that is true, I think that the Ravens absolutely should consider giving up one of the DB's for a space for Michael if they can work out a deal. Elam, Huff, lewis-Harris all are expendable for the rest of the season.
It's not a comment that Michael Floyd was released, it's a fact. We don't need him. We have better talents. Again I believe that our problem on offense is not talent but leadership and scheme
Ravens came out flat, OL got pushed around early, Flacco was off because of this and receivers were dropping catchable balls. Receivers failing to get separation and get open.
Powers and Wright are bums
Actually the biggest bum is Flacco.
I hate when Eisenberg prefaces his articles by trying to diminish the importance of a game. We're in a tight race for the playoffs, of course we need every win we can get. How can you say the Ravens would be fine by winning their next 3 games, like it's a given...are those teams going to roll over and hand us their lunch money because Eisenberg ordained it? This is not some see 'let's see how we stack up' game...we need this win more than NE does, and I hope we play like it. We don't have the cushion for moral victories, we need actual victories 'bruh'.
Agree!
You wonder why Art Model can't get into the hall of fame? He fired Paul Brown and Bill Belichick. Belichick is quite possibly the best all around football guy ever. Ozzie learned from him. No doubt that if he had come to Baltimore and stayed, 4 Super Bowls would have been within reach by now.
However with that said, I despise the Patriots.
Obviously....the "dark horse" fringes on- WHAT Flacco (type of leader) will show.
up. Lets hope this mini roll escalates!
Dear Santa,
Can we please kick New Englands buttocks into oblivion ?
-A beleaguered fanStop with the what Flacco will show - the entire offense starting with the damn offensive line needs to show up!!! It's not just the damn QB!!!!
NOT from my perspective, Homee.
Steve Smith Sr. said it best "... We go as he goes" We can blame the WRs and the Oline as much as we want, but it's critically important that the QB plays well. All the Offensive snaps go through him, and he can audible whenever he sees fit.
You see this type comment invites counter arguments which some people on this website will readily see as "hate on Flacco" You are essentially implying that if the offense isn't playing well to look no further than the Oline and the WRs. That I completely disagree. Flacoo played an excellent game last Sunday, but let's not pretend that he has not been mediocre WRs and Oline not withstanding.
What I think is more likely the case is 1. Flacco is getting healthier 2. He was determined to elevate his game and that of others around him - when's the last time you saw Flacco get in anyone's face like he did Wallace yesterday? 3. The Oline is jelling 4. The OC called a better game 5. The whole offense consequently played betterNo, that's not what I am implying. What I am saying is that when the offense plays like crap everyone wants to scream and shout how much Joe sucks and NOBODY wants to account for the 9 different offensive line changes he's played, Steve Smith Sr being out for several weeks and piss poor play by the OL and receivers. When the OL plays as well as it did, then that allows Joe to what he does and that allows the receivers to do what they do. Almost every struggling team has a weak OL, without a strong OL your offense will go nowhere!! Look at Oakland, you honestly believe Carr is as good as he is, he and Dak have the two best OL in the league right now. You parroted all the points they brought up on the radio but nice try. Flacco getting healthier, healthier since the week before, really?? Getting in Wallace's face and Marty calling a better game - guess what take all of those ball them up and if the OL plays like crap then none of that even matters!!! Flacco was able to sit in the pocket and get comfortable because the OL played as well as they did. It all starts with the offensive and defensive lines.
1. I do not parrot anything. I don't think that's good English.
2. I grew up in Baltimore but I live in a different market now, and so I do not listen to Baltimore radio nor do I have time to
3. The 5 points I highlighted are what a reasonable person would think. In fact far too often the Oline and the WRs have been scapegoated. The QB is a 9th year veteran. While he played well last Sunday, he however had been very mediocre prior to then. Last Sunday was the best pocket awareness I had seen from him. He even stepped to the side and climbed the pocket. He would usually back up and start running and throw the ball away. Better protection improved his accuracy, but he had been very inaccurate even on snaps when there were no pressure.
I've been saying it all season; give Joe protection and time and he will do what he's capable of doing and this game proved it. The OL gave up no sacks and numerous times I saw Joe stand up and step up in the pocket and throw darts to his receivers. One of the biggest things was the receivers were actually getting open and catching the ball. Everyone wants to blame Joe when the offense sputters but doesn't want to account for the things out of his control. The big question is can the OL continue to play this good???

Flacco played lights out. If the offense plays close to this regularly, we have a real chance. I hope they never rest on this. The patriots are next.
Another interesting point; Tannehill is listed at 6'7" but he was looking up to Flacco. I think Flacco is taller than the 6'6" he is listed as.
"Flacco said after the Bengals win that he could sense offense losing momentum and going conservative, and that they should have kept the foot on the gas. Instead of expressing it in the media after the game, an offensive leader should have addressed it right in the middle of the game and gotten everyone back on track."
Couldn't agree more. So many of Joe's post-game comments are frustrating because he rarely takes ownership for his or the offense's lack of production. I was shocked after the loss to Dallas when Joe said "we should beat this team." No crap, Joe- so where were you when the team needed you to step up and get the offense going? You're not getting paid $120 million to rest on the laurels of SB 47. People got upset over Ray's comments about Flacco's lack of leadership, but I can't blame Ray one bit for voicing his frustration. A lot of aggravated fans can echo that same sentiment.
Agree with you and Ghani900. It's disengenious that he can be considered a leader when he can sit there and watch the team implode on game day after game day and say nothing. But he sure can say a lot when it doesn't matter.
He has thrown many OCs under the bus. Cam Cameron, and Trestman. To say he doesn't complain about players is not believable.
In my opinion the only reason anyone even brings up his name when they discuss leadership is because of the position he plays.
I'm sick of hearing about our run game. On Sunday, the line had one of its best games of the year, the RBs broke a lot of tackles, and they both still averaged less than 4 yds/carry. Our run game is not taking us anywhere. We need to put Joe in the shotgun, keep a fast tempo, get him in a rhythm, and mix some runs in to keep the defense honest, just like we did in the SB run. Even in the playoff games with Kubiak, Joe came out firing with a fast tempo, and we scored at least 30 in both games. Our offense can be much better if they stay aggressive and stop being conservative.
What is it going to take to make people understand that Flacco isn't going to carry the team? Without a run game, we stand no chance of moving the ball. He hasn't got the type of rapport with WRs to reduce the margin of error and this is compounded by his inaccuracy. His best friend is a play action pass. You can't have that without a great run game.
I think the OC and Flacco should find ways to bring out the best in Perriman. Our QB is usually blah about everything. It would be great to see a concerted effort to make our WRs great.
all the weapons we have and our offense is still baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, i mean we have dixon, Wallace, perriman, pitta, sss, aiken, waller, yet we can't score a TD for the life of me, no creativity to get all these guys the ball, and be a reliable offense.
That's the problem. Wallace and SSS are good players no longer premier players. The others are simply mediocre players. Waller? Really?
We have great receivers. We could have OBJ, Dez Byant, Amari Cooper, Larry Fitzgerald etc. and there wouldn't be any difference
I know it's wishful thinking, but I sure hope Ozzie has Norv Turner's number on speed dial... A new OC can't come soon enough. One that's actually a good one, and can come up with playes where the strengths of our offense and players come into play - where the plays are drawn up to match the players' abilities, and not vica versa... Oh, and one who actually knows that in the two-minute drives you don't keep passing short-to-mid range passes to the middle of the field, giving the receiver no chance of making it out of bounds...
Luckily, we also have a D and a ST...Thumbs up on the Norv call there Bio
Shouldn't a 9th yr veteran QB know better ?
always grateful for the win but the offense is stale as always and if aj plays we lose. a descent offense would have scored 30 plus today. flacco is unsure of himself and the offense lacks playmakers, i do like the set up of the o-line with yanda at left guard. ducasse has impressed me
a 37 y.o. receiver should not be the 1st option on offense. shows the lack of talent on offense. wallace is a solid #2 but aiken and perriman have not shown much and the te play has dropped off.
You can't have a pro bowl WR without a good QB, either by the way throws the ball or how he rallies them or the position he puts them in. I used to think "man I wish we drafted Odell Beckham" But if we had, no one would know who he is.
Our QB just seem to go through the motion. As he goes, go the whole unit. I don't know what type of conversation the front office has with him, and we may never know. I don't see how the FO could be happy with what's going on with the offense.
We won!!!
Seriously though what does the front office think of this offense? Does this offense practice enough? This is the 11th game and the 12th week of the season. They're still in preseason mode; more like training camp mode. How can these pros look themselves in the mirror?
This back injury with Jimmy is worrisome. If it's a muscle issue, he should be over it by now. This makes a nerve issue more likely i.e. herniated disc. Herniated discs just don't go away on their own without surgery. I hope that it's muscular and he is just a slow healer.

That 4th and 29 even though it worked just epitomizes Flacco. He doesn't usually give it his best, or his best is just not good enough.
