But guess what, without adequate protection and his receivers making catches he's not so great. It's really not rocket science. You mention not being able to pay the needed players because "the QB is making all the money". Yeah, especially against those great defensive efforts, huh. Secondary play was pitiful on both sides. Looked like a college game. Guessing what the Ravens brass noticed most was how having offensive weapons and great O line play can produce results. I think they probably already knew how talented Rogers and Prescott are. When will Ravens fans stop blaming the Oline for all of Flacco's deficiencies. Oline doesn't buy pocket awareness, and pocket presence. Oline does tell the QB to quicken the snap count and catch the defender before he leaves the field. Oline doesn't tell the QB to vary his voice inflection and keep the pass rushers and the defensive line guessing. Good QBs have these weapons as part of their armamentarium. A good QB has so much latitude to attack a defense. Also a good QB can make players around him better. We keep asking for this nirvana with Flacco; great Oline, great WRs, Great RBs, great OC, great play caller, great play, great head coach. Where's the money to pay for all these players, when he the QB is making all the money. The head coach is already on record making this exact point.

Both teams have a great O-Line. This isn't hard to see and understand. So when you look at Rodgers and Flacco, the only difference you see is their Oline? You didn't notice how Rodgers played the Dallas defense like a fiddle. Quickening his snap count to cause them to commit illegal substitution, changing his cadence to draw them offsides. Flacco never does that. How about that incredible throw; scrambling towards his left and nailed that throw. What is it about Rodgers' play that is reminiscent of Joe Flacco?

Hope the Ravens brass got to watch Packers - Cowboys game. What a display of quarterbacking by both QBs especially Aaron Rodgers. And could you believe that the other QB is just a rookie.

Interesting isn't it. Ozzie and Billick and others built the Ravens that we the fans came to admire. In fact the rest of the league admired the Ravens. Remember Brady and Belichick were in awe of Lewis, Reed and Suggs. They considered those 3 the best in their respective positions. It's ironic that as other teams were trying to build teams like the Ravens, we are getting away from what we are. Now we have to play catch up.

I think they are afraid of taking players with any issues. I also think that Harbaugh has significant input in it. Will Hill is the last player we know that had significant personal issues, but he was on the roster before the Ray Rice incident that started the whole thing. Waller is the only player on our roster now as far as I can tell whom issue might have been known prior to being drafted. Boyle's issue appear to have beeen as much a surprise to us as it was to them. Why do I think Hatbaugh has significant input? Because he is all about choir boys. There were several reports that as soon the Ray Rice case broke he suggested releasing Ray Rice even before the investigation was complete, and way before the elevator images came to light. Torrey Smith was the ultimate choir boy, and Harbaugh spoke of shedding tears just reading reading about Torrey. Bernard Pierce was released after one incident of DUI within 24 hrs. Not to mention the release of Bernard Pollard for no apparent reason. As I was watching the Atlanta game I couldn't help but notice how many studs they have on that team. They seemed so much faster and more physical than us. SMH! We used to be the most physical team on this planet. Ray Lewis was unanimously considered the most feared NFL player.

Agree. A serious pay cut for Flacco is in order, but it won't happen. The front office just was taken on that deal. Flacco is an advantageous position. There is too much guaranteed money in the contract that we are stuck with him for about 2 yrs. all FO want to do is find any way possible to get as much out of him as possible. I think though they finally realized that he is not who they thought he is. Flacco has a way of playing well nearing his contract year. Next time around, my guess is that the FO won't be quite as generous.

This brings me to an issue we see a lot especially with the WRs. We do not give our young WRs enough opportunities to play and develop chemistry with the starting QB. This was evident with Chris Moore last season. He seemed out sync with Flacco when he did get on the field. However you can see that he has a lot of potential. One just can't help feeling that what's missing are the preparation and repetition.

Yes they had one of the most successful offseasons and drafts in recent memory. Certainly up there for best in franchise history. Based on Judon, Stanley, and Dixon? I'll give you those three are good players(good not great) but I want to see how the #2 and #3 picks turn out before I say it is one of the best in franchise history. The Reynolds pick at #6 looks like wash. Have to see if Chris Moore at #5 can do more than be a Special Teams guy. I have high hopes for Chris Moore. Something tells me that if he were drafted by the Steelers he would be great.

If we had Julio Jones, Devonte Freeman & Tevin Coleman.....instead we got Mike Wallace, Terrence West & Kenneth Dixon..... On the one hand I understand what you are saying. On the other hand the Ravens FO is responsible for the players they have, from the QB to the WRs and RBs. One can say though that Julio Jones is in a class all by himself. The WRs closest to him could be Dez Bryant but not quite as explosive as Julio Jones. There's no WR on our roster that is like Julio or have the potential to be like him. Not sure if Perriman can ever get there. There is no RB on our roster as explosive as theirs. If the Oline gets better enough to get Dixon in the open field consistently we will see special things from him.

Excellent post. It's beginning to sound more and more like lip service. Every offseason they come out and sound really optimistic and yet almost every year we're a losing team.

In a word "Trestman". That's what he does wherever he goes. Dink and dunk passes are his run game. That surprising thing is that Harbaugh didn't nip it in the bud.

We need apass rusher first because if you can't get to the QB no corner can cover all day WHats your thought on Solomon Thomas. I didn't really watched college this year, and have only studied a little so far. He looks pretty awesome though. I still think we need a CB first round. Esp with all the talent this year. I feel like there could be at least 2-5 future pro bowl cbs in the first round of this year. I've never really seen that before. And there is a bunch of talent elsewhere. In all honesty, at 16, I feel like we'll be getting a player that would go top 5 i a lot of drafts. Because of the overall talent in this draft. We still have to get the pick right though, obviously. I feel like we have to go corner for so many reasons. So far I really like Wilson, Tabor, Jones, Jamal Adams (saftey), and there's at least 3-4 other cbs people are talking about going in the first. I haven't looked much yet. Wilson looks like a remedy for Ravens football to me. Pair him with Jimmy Tavon and Weddle for years to come = secondary problems beyond solved, and probably the best in the league. Building the rest of the D around that would be fun imo I haven't watched any college FB this year but will watch senior bowl mock drafts have us taking a pass rusher from Alabama with our first pick don't remember his name but sounds like a good player but I agree with you CB talent deep in this draft seems tobe good corners available in first 3 rounds Just hope FO doesn't make the mistake of drafting CB late and miss out on top talent, thinking its a deep class. They have a deep need to upgrade the secondary talent period. Everyone knows the Ravens have a stout run game defense. There is already pass rushers on this team. Give them another 0.2-0.3 seconds on average to get home and the difference in outcomes will be huge. Opposing QB's were not forced into holding the ball long enough to feel the pressure and negates the work of your pass rush and wears them down in the process. Also Weedle and Webb was a good combo at Safety, but really now is the time to think forward and bring another young player in to learn the position from those vets. They did not groom up a safety before Reeds departure and look at the whole situation that created. It took several years to "fix" but they are again in a similar position. Elam is good for depth but needs to show more on the field to consider him a future starter. I agree with most of what you said except on Elam. Elam has put so many bad plays on tape that I'm worried that he might be out of the NFL completely come next year.

I agree that the pass rush has been one of the weakest positions for us in the last 2 yrs. But that's not for lack of effort from the FO as it has been on filling the CB position. Injury to 2 possible hall of fame pass rushers in the last 2 yrs. (Suggs and Dumerville both have had Achilles surgery) They used the second round on Kamalei Correa. Zadarius Smith has been inconsistent despite showing early potential. Since Jimmy Smith i believe that Tavon Young is the highest drafted CB and Young was drafted in the 4th. They haven't brought in any player of any consequence to play CB since Smith. Graham's success was a pleasant surprise because he was a special teams player for the Bears before he came to us. Despite preaching the importance of CB position, the front office has been paying it lip service.

One word...coaching. They are successful even when Brady is out, and even when he's in, he's often had no-name receivers (Moss and Gronk are the exceptions) Agree! Coaching and strong emphasis on accountability. Which directly correlates with coaching. How many times have you heard Brady complain about the OC?

We have been here several times before. But every time Ozzie chooses to save money and hope for miracle. He did that in 2013. He let Graham go for $4M/yr Back then Graham was really good. He had just helped us win the Super Bowl. It's likely that Graham could have signed for a little less than that instead of signing with his hometown Bills. We had the opportunity to sign Brandon Flowers. We chose cheap options like Rashan Melvin, Davis, etc. Then last year we were enamored with Shareece Wright; a player that was riding the bench in San Francisco. He was cheap. As incongruent as their out look is on the CBs so also it is with the QB position. They have mortgaged the teams future on a bad QB. When I say this people always "Joe has talent" Well what do we mean by that? "He has strong arm, he is on the better side of 6'6" Well that's is called potential. The QB at his 9th yr is still processing the game at the level of a rookie. It doesn't appear that he puts in 1 more second than needs to be put in to get ready for a game. He relies on his instincts and adrenalin on Sundays. It might be the time to deconstruct this team.

I didn't know that there was such a thing as a play action deep bomb QB. So this is the new crotch for Flacco. SMH. How about just a decent QB that can play the game of football.
