My favorites of his are The Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable, but I was not in the business yet when those were made. I am hoping that After Earth will be as good as we all want it to be. I did very little work on that movie because it started while I was working on a project in New Orleans, but I did have a good time working with the combination of Night, Will and Jaden Smith.

I watch the original The Evil Dead several times a year. It will never be replaced. However, this remake did a fine job of paying homage to its predecessor, while being different enough to still entertain and thrill the audience. It did not include the underlying, tongue-in-cheek humor that made the initial trilogy so amazing, but there was certainly enough gore and scares to keep even the most avid horror fan on the edge of their seat.

Jackson keeps to himself. He is very quiet, but not in a rude way. He will answer you if you talk to him, but he prefers to be by himself whenever possible. He doesn't like to spend too much time setting up or planning shots, and he prefers to fix any mistakes or make additions in post-production. Shyamalan is completely different. He is extremely personable, and he gets to know everyone on the crew and become friends. He is constantly giving away trips to crew members at random (like 6 or 7 nights for two in Belize, South Africa, etc.). He does that like once every couple weeks. He is also constantly throwing parties at wrap every night with a mobile, fully stocked bar. He spends months and months carefully story-boarding and planning every shot, and he rarely makes any amendments to his plans on the shoot day. This makes it very easy to schedule his movies, and often leads to shorter days than usual in the film world. I really hope he hits it out of the park again soon like he did earlier in his career because he deserves only good things in life to come his way.

Hearing people say that about that movie means a lot because that was one of the most frustrating and difficult jobs anyone in the Philly film business has done in the last decade. Freezing everyday, long hours, unnecessary stress every minute...I'm glad fans seemed to like the finished project. Also, those are my jeans Gerard Butler is wearing when he gets arrested at his place. I literally took them off and gave them to him because the director liked them. Those are also my hands passing his food through the X-ray machine in prison. Silly trivia for you.

When I first started, I did mostly blockbusters. The Lovely Bones, Transformers 2, Limitless, Law Abiding Citizen, etc. Now I do mostly smaller movies because they actually pay better (my department only), and I have a better position. I do sometimes help out on Blockbusters when they are the only thing in town. I worked on Dead Man Down and Silver Linings Playbook recently. Also, just about every M. Night Shyamalan movie. Say what you want about his recent work, but he is a fantastic director to work for. His jobs are awesome.

I'm an Assistant Director. We schedule, hire, and work to maintain the budget while running the set and making sure everyone gets the job done without working the long, break-free hours we are working. What does this mean?

I just found this thread as I am fairly new to the forum. Awesome. Since I actually work in the film industry for a living, my wife and I see about 7 or 8 movies in theaters each month. (Then I write it all off as "research" .) Horror movies are my favorite, and so I cannot wait to see the Evil Dead remake tomorrow night. That first redband trailer was ridiculous. It should be one of those remakes that is actually worth the price of admission.

I grew up in Northern Delaware, and attended the University of Delaware (obvious tie). I now live in Philadelphia.
