Not much chance (if any) of making the play-offs this year... time to take a look at the young guys and at dumping some of the high paid, under performing, vets. we will probably be drafting in the top 6 again this year... hope someone different from the last few years is making these picks.
The OL admittedly did not help much, but I also believe the outcome would have been very different if Joe is doing half what a $25million/yr is expected to do. If he cannot, it would have been better then to settle for any $10milion/yr QB or even a rookie QB and invest the difference in an OL that can make a difference in the run game. Having that said, I do not see the OL going anywhere this year with Zuttah at Center; it's like having 4-men OL with a huge hole in the middle.Â
So tired of hearing this Flacco contract argument. He's getting paid what the average successful QB is getting paid. Romo is making $18 million, Kap is making $19 million, Cousins is making $20 million, Tannehill is making $20 million, Carson Palmer is making $25 million.
Do you even know what a $10 million QB looks like?
Here's your options (not on rookie deal):
Ryan Fitzpatrick = $12 million
RG3 = $ 7.5 million
Chase Daniel = $7 million
Josh McCown = $ 4.6 million
Chad Henne = $ 4 million.
Do you know what a crap shoot drafting a QB is without having a Top 3 overall pick?Johnny Manziel, EJ Manual, Geno Smith, Paxton Lynch, Christian Hackenberg, etc. In the last 4 drafts, 42 QBs have been drafted after the Top 3 picks - exactly 3 have made any impact (Teddy Bridgewater, Derek Carr, Dak Prescott). 3 outta 42! That's a 7% success rate. 7%! Those are not good odds to waste a 1st, 2nd or 3 round pick on.All those guys you just listed - All playing better than Flacco. So yeah we could get someone a lot cheaper to Suck as Bad as Flacco has. At any rate we are more or less stuck with Flacco until 2018 and then we can dump him. Blame that on poor contracts, just like Eugene Monroe. Fact of the matter is Flacco has sucked since signing the big contract not once but twice. The Ravens screwed up big time on this one and it will hurt for a long long time. Who knows though we can always hope for the best.
No QB is any good without a good front line. Stanley was a great draft pickup. He was an ironman in college. He got hurt. it happens. Our 4th round pick is a very good guard but only an ave. tackle. When most of ur OL is hurt its hard to protect the QB.
Still drinking the purple kool-aide?
Not much chance this year of making the play-offs this year with all the injuries, but it will be a big help going forward to see what we have in these three. It seems that both Suggs and Doom are near the end of their fine careers and next year's draft will need to reflect this void.
As ineffective as Joe has been so far this season it would be wise to let him heal and bring him back healthy after the bye. Mallet can't be any worse than a banged up Joe.
Let's hope we win this one... will probably be our last of the season.
IMHO the biggest single problem is that when our QB got his huge contract he lost all sense of urgency... just compare his record before and after signing the largest contract in history up to that time. It's a common problem and one can find many examples. It's the downside of awarding a huge guaranteed contract.

True enough... but it's hard to have any confidence in our draft picks no matter how high we draft.
Joe has been average, at best. But even worse is Webb who has the second highest salary on the club. When you compare the percentage of the salary cap these two get, combined, to their production it's easy to see why the team is in decline.
At this point our fate for this year is close to being sealed. Looks like we are headed for another 5-11 season. I just hope we can do better in the draft than we have for the past several years. Otherwise 5-11 could become the norm. It's truly sad for the more senior players who probably had their last chance to make a run for the SB.
It's a wonder that Joe is still walking without a cast. Need to figure something out and really fast.
Looking like another 5-11 season. I hope we do a better job drafting than we have in recent years or 5-11 may become the norm.
Firing Trestman, while a solid move, seems too much like re-arranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.
I certainly hope I'm wrong but this looks like one more short term band aid.
Starting to feel like Deja view all over again.
The offense and special teams have been bitter disappointments thus far this year. Unless they both improve quickly our play-off hopes will be dashed again. There is still time to right the ship but we are approaching the end of the "easy" part of our schedule. We can only hope at this point.
I just hope it is as easy as firing Trestman. Joe apparently got his wish... hope he takes advantage of the new situation he finds himself in.
Still waiting for Joe to start living up to that contract. We need that from him big time.
If I remember correctly Waller is ready to return from suspension... Max to the IR may be the solution.
It makes sense if there isn't a ton of dead money... anyone know what the deal is in dead money this year and next?
This is why keeping Monroe as a back up made sense.
Hopefully Joe will start living up to his contract. If not our "O" will have to keep scratching and clawing for points.
Beyond Zuttah, Trestman may just be the main weak link in the offense. I do think he still needs more time to prove himself one way or the other. Time will tell.
It's just too bad that SSS didn't become a Raven long ago.
Trestman is going to be on the hot seat unless the offense starts cutting down on mistakes and begins using all the assembled weapons effectively.

The best teams usually have owners who let their football people run the team. In our case it may take intervention from our owner to right the ship.
