If Smith can't go against the Squealers we are in big trouble.
8 hours ago, steelcityraven said:Hester was not the result of a bad decision making process. He is the greatest return man to ever play the game. He was a FA and available. We needed a KR /PR guy. His resume and pedigree warranted consideration. The only real question was regarding his healthiness and how much he had left in the tank, at his age. Once he proved to be healthy why wouldn't we sign him. The only way to know if he had anything left in the tank was to give him a chance. This didn't work out but it was not a bad signing. The contract was right, the length of the contract was right and Hester was the right guy to take a chance on.
The only real issue that I have with the signing and the entire process is that we put all of our eggs in one basket. I wish we would have went out and found an insurance policy (like a WR who can also return) just to hedge our bets so to speak.
But that is today's NFL and I have to remind myself that we live in a salary cap generation that is dominated by QBs - so we hedge our bets in other areas with project guys like Michael Campanaro.... guys who have the talent but have health, or other issues that we can stash away on a PS.
Which again is what our FO did.... not a bad process... just one that didn't work out. In business not every decision is expected to be a home run... but you try to make an educated guess as to which ones will be... you gamble on those and hedge your bets just in case it is not.
I think that is exactly what we did with Hester... it just didn't work the way we had hoped. Don't make it a bad decision!
You are making a funny... right?
Another bad signing by the FO. Mr. B needs to take a hard look at our decision process during the off season.
Jimmy Smith is playing well when he is in there... if his most recent injury is serious we are in big trouble against the Squealers. We really need some more depth at CB... poor Jimmy can not stay healthy for any length of time.
This is a big game in many respects... especially for a potential wild card spot. The division winner will be determined by the outcome of the second Squealers game. If Joe keeps playing like the pre mega-contract Joe, we may just run the table.
The loss of the Gronk is big... now if they can just keep Eddleman under control...
Watching T-Sizzle throughout his career has been a true pleasure. A consummate professional who has fun playing the game... more power to him.
One more thing... if Suggs can put a big hit on Brady early in the game to get him complaining, it will go a long way towards the Ravens controlling the game.
So they can't use the injury excuse if they lose. Well then, after 11 games and a coaching change and all the deficiency exposed this result will finally describ who or what this team is. We should see a " well oiled machine" today.
We can only hope.
If Joe wakes up and plays like he did before his mega-contract we should win going away.
The media has begun to write about Harbs being on the hot seat if the Ravens miss the playoffs again this year citing his lack of leadership. I for one hope and believe that this is not correct. He has been a steady leader for his entire tenure and it would be wrong to hold him responsible for poor QB play and some bad draft picks and contracts given out by the FO.
If we make the play-offs it will have to be in spite of Joe...
No doubt the offense has been our weak link all season. Our center has often played poorly. Our offensive line is different each week due to injuries. Our QB is ranked 24th in the league (up at least from 29th) per PFF. I believe the penalties often arise from frustration and from trying to protect a QB who holds the ball too long and has trouble with his progressions. Our QB has the highest average salary of any QB in the NFL over the life of his contract (per the Cheat sheet) but seems disinterested in the game at times. Regardless of how this year ends the FO needs to take a hard look at how the offense is put together in terms of salary cap space vs productivity.
Even with a very good defense the offense we have can't get over .500. Joe is running out of excuses.
We certainly need a tight end who blocks well. He also showed he was a solid receiver last year. Let's hope he's got his head is on straight now!
Joe probably had his best game of the season... that said, it seemed like Dak just wanted it more than Joe.
Hello, You know what I am the first so I will say my peace and everyone will read it! I believe everyone is taking Lewis comment the wrong way. I don't believe he says Joe has to be like him and be demonstrative But must FEEL some type of passion! From my perspective I appeared to me Joe was missing something not physical. Some times the flame can go out and we just go through the motions? I am sure every one can contest to this? Perhaps Lewis statement was to purposely light that flame? Com on folks even a GEEK has passion for what he is most geekiest at?
Exactly!
No doubt Ray owes his second ring to Joe... there is also no doubt that Joe's level of play has never been the same since he signed that mega-contract. I'm guessing Ray is offering some constructive criticism in the hopes it will spark greater effort out of Joe this Sunday and going forward.
That's one of the great thing about T Sizzle... he has fun with football.
Whether the glass is half full or half empty the Ravens have a chance next week against the Cowboys to put themselves into a legitimate position to get to the playoffs. Despite their record they are beatable. I think we will likely know then whether we have a contender or a pretender.
Chalk up another good game for the "D". It's hard to believe our offense is this bad.
This is big game... probably our best chance to salvage something out of this season.
Big game... last chance to salvage the season.
This was easy to predict... question is who made this call?
If the roster is "undermanned", it is no one's fault but Ozzie Newsome. His terrible drafting over the last 6 years have left the Ravens bereft of talent.
Zrebiec is right about the best and worst. The Ravens knew what they had to fix but didn't do it.
I like Mason but he is full of baloney. John Harbaugh didn't win anything. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed did. Once they were gone, all we read was about how this was "Harbaugh's Team". Well we haven't heard that lately. How is that working out?
Weddle and Webb "entrenched"? Seriously? Why would anyone on this awful pass defense be "entrenched? If they are, they are because no one else has the talent to unentrench them. Elam stinks. He has proven he can't play in the NFL.
Sadly, Webb is downright terrible. He is a good guy who tries his best, but injuries have slowed him to the point where he is a liability.
Ok, Young & Lewis have done ok (for fourth rounders) but where are the guys taken ahead of them? Just like every year since 2010, draft picks one through three are mediocre or gone into obscurity where they belong. Ozzie Newsome's inability to draft winners in the first few rounds have killed the Ravens. It's nice to read something that I been thinking and saying from someone else. I would also throw in the bad contacts that have put the Ravens in Salary Cap Hell for years to come. Looking back in Ravens history the Ravens should have Dilfer'ed Joe after the Super bowl and used the money on the O-line. It worked for Trent & Jamal.
Just maybe we might be better off in "salary cap hell"... that is to rid ourselves of overpaid and under performing players and take a shot on some young, hungry newcomers?
