Watch us trade out of that position now.
lol, we will trade with the eagles again and get their 4th round pick.
Hopefully with one of those 3rds we grab Sidney Jones *fingers crossed*
you know what? If that's the move then I am down for it. I'd love for us to take him on and stash him on IR for a season.
This was a bad move imo, he probably would've given us 3rd or 4th round compensation next year, and instead we ship him away just to move up in the same round... We didn't even get an extra pick. Our FO must really love this draft. I'm just not seeing the value here.
I personally did not like trading back twice in the second. I was hoping to pick up Spence and was disappointed when we we didn't. Time will tell if it was a big mistake.
Agreed. Look at Correa's performance last year and when you have a second rounder, you expect someone who is going to spend a lot of time on the field if not injured and he wasnt injured. Once again, in the second and third rounds, the ravens FO and scouts have failed us again (and again and again). The old trade back to get more picks so we can get extra people with those picks that we eventually have to cut is just a poor strategy. You can only keep 52 and I would rather trade up and have a few really really good players than 15 of which 14 don't ever see the field. The old philosophy of being successful in the draft by getting more picks and accumulating comp picks is no longer an effective strategy. How many picks did Cleveland have last year, like 20, and they were like 1-15 or 0-16. All those draft picks did them absolutely no good like all those draft picks we get do us no good. Hopefully, soon we will learn.
Please look back at our 2nd and 3rd round choices from the beginning of this decade. We have hit more often than we have missed. KC was a disappointment, but the jury is still out on him. Kaufusi broke his leg. Since 2009, we've picked up Paul Kruger, Lardarious Webb, Torrey Smith, KO, Bernard Pierce (remember he was actually pretty good in 2012), Brandon Williams, and Timmy Jernigan.
Our flops have been Arthur Brown, Jah Reid (who was a pretty good depth player), and Terrance Brooks.
Terrence Cody and Carl Davis fit somewhere in the middle of success and bust, and Davis still has time to turn it around.
Bottom line here is, overwhelmingly, our 2nd and 3rd round picks have paid huge dividends for us. To continue to make this point, in 2008 we picked up Ray Rice in the 2nd and in 2007 we picked up Yanda in the 3rd.

Wouldn't mind us getting a big WR instead of John Ross, not really sold on him. Hope Reuben Foster slips down to us, unlikely but he would fit right in, then we can slide Correa to the OLB slot where he is more comfortable
I also like the idea of drafting Reuben Foster and have Correa as OLB as well. But after the draft, if we don't draft Reuben Foster and he's still on the open market by then, Zach Brown could be another slide in player that Ozzie could take a look at. 👍
The Dolphins wanted to sign Brown but he wanted too much money. When the Miami Dolphins think a player is asking for too much, you can bet that he is out of the Ravens price range.
That being said, I hope so much that we can draft Reuben Foster.

lol, I'll be the first to admit that I was had. The Ravens would totally be the team to pull this off over any other NFL team. This was a cool April Fools joke.
If I were a player, this would be incredible news. As a fan, I'm thinking that they better not lose this London game now.
Remember this time last year when Justin Forsett was definitely gonna be our starter? I'm just saying.

shhh... let's keep him motivated.

Last season, with no notable holes in any position, and as few impact injuries as seldom in the history of the NFL, the Bengals flopping and the Browns - well, being the Browns... and with a not really a killer schedule we still managed to miss the playoffs...
Man... remember when we lost to the Jets last year?
Charge on Breshad! Just double last year's production and you will be in the Pro Bowl. That's all you need to do... lol.

amen to a lineman 3rd 4th and 5th. 2 can pan out and the third can jump off the highest building for all I care. Absolutely agree on our scouts doing great with late picks on the line. But they're not 100% and Gino was the evidence lol
regrding DE, we also have Davis and Henry who we took in the third and 4th rounds. I'd also like to see Judon play DE on obvious passing downs. I think he'd have a McPhee kind of effect inside on passing downs.
When you put it like that the upgrade seems more obvious lol. You are right, Carr sees the field for the vast majority of NFL teams, and Shareece should be more of an emergency option for anybody.
I also can't wait to see what Judon will do this year, but again if he or Suggs goes down, it's gonna be the Zadarius Smith show, and I'm not too keen on that.
The thing is, if we're looking at the line, or the linebackers, or the receivers, we're only one good player away from good depth at these positions. It's funny how one guy can really make the difference between a position being shallow and a position being loaded.
18 hours ago, Halshayeji said:I agree 100 percent with the amount of perimeter talent in the top end of this draft.
i also agree that if we lose a WR or OLB then we're in a pickle. But keep in mind that Judon is not too shabby himself and Suggs is still a baller. We're not where we want to be but it could be a lot worse. Also when it comes to WRs, we have a 1000 yard receiver and a 1st rounder that picked up really well last year. We also have a few good pass catchers in our TEs so it's not horrible. Yes it could be better and injuries could make it harder but at least we have a starter and a #2 guy
i completely disagree in terms of CB. If we draft a CB in the first round, there's no guarantee he even starts because of the depth we have. Call me crazy but I think we have one of the best secondaries in the NFL and thus we can draft someone to develop. If Jimmy goes down it'll hurt for sure but Carr can handle his own without having to change our scheme to help him. Young is also a stud so it's not like we'll have young on #1 WRs and Shareece on #2s
DE also a position of strength on this team if we keep Jernigan.
now let's look at our line. We were already bad as a unit and lost 2 players that each made a pro bowl the past two years. We all remember how bad it was when we lost 2 or 3 guys last year so let's not start next year at our worst. Heck Ducase who our FO decided wasn't worth keeping actually beat hurst and urschel to the starting lineup. It would terrify me if Hurst and Urschel are anything better than 7 and 8 in the depth chart (they are currently 4 and 5). I see OLine as the priority right now because both the passing and run game will fail unless we fix this.
im not calling for a lineman in the first two rounds but if we don't get a lineman then I hope we take two linemen in the next 3 picks.
also as you mentioned. I really hope we sign at least one good FA lineman before the draft and I'd prefer that be a C. I remember like it was yesterday how bad our line was when a rookie made the calls up front.
Oh and you probably forgot about Nesbot and Wesley for a good reason lol
I guess I see Carr as an upgrade over Shareece but I not as a huge upgrade in general. He is a good player, and solidifies the position, but if Jimmy gets hurt and he's our #1 guy for multiple weeks I'm less confident than you are. As for DE, I'm pretty sure we only have two on the roster as of right now, Kaufusi and Urban. We can play Timmy out there, but he's naturally a DT.
I was surprised we didn't make an attempt to keep Ducasse as well, I thought he was really solid guard depth for us, especially considering the fact that the FO seems to like the idea of Lewis at tackle to replace Wagner. I would be very okay with your draft strategy on offensive linemen, 3rd/4th/ and 5th round offensive linemen is where our scouts make their money.
I also remember Gradkowski at center... never again.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's actually an exciting thing for Harbaugh to come out and express confidence in KC to take over the middle spot. I don't remember ever hearing that praise for Arthur Brown. What I do remember is Harbaugh saying similar things about Zach Orr last year to the collective groans of Ravens fans everywhere (including me), but that turned out pretty well.

Hurst at LG and a rookie day 3 C?
just theoretical here but let's say Stanley catches a virus and misses preseason game 1. So you'd probably haveYanda LT, Hurst LG, Rookie 5th round C, Urschel RG, and Lewis RT starting that game.
would you play Flacco?
i guess in that situation you'd use hurst and lewis as your tackles, yanda at guard, and then hope jenson and urschel will be okay in the middle. I see the issue here. I'm not opposed to bringing a veteran in by any means, but I still like the perimeter talent in this draft too much to go with OL with our first 2 picks. Our CB depth also leaves us with a disaster waiting to happen if an injury occurs, same with the WRs, DE, and OLB.
I forgot about Nesbot and Wesley, if either of them can play we can move Lewis inside and have them at RT, still not great, but better.
15 hours ago, CaliRavenFan said:I think your overvaluing him with a 2nd round pick, we will be lucky to get a 3rd for him since you can get Sheldon Richardson for a 4th. I wouldnt mind keeping him to play out this contract year knowing he will give 100% but no way do i see us paying him next year. We have a lot of depth on the Dline and will be adding another guy in the draft.
I guess what I was saying is that I'm comfortable overvaluing him for now because I imagine the comp pick next year will be a 3rd rounder anyway. At the cost we have him for right now and the fact he is going into a contract year, someone should have to blow our doors off before we let him go. If I were a Jets fan I would feel the same about Richardson. I like to stick with the known, especially when the payoff next year isn't so bad.
Lewis v Hurst for RT will be a good battle in camp, the "loser" could potentially become the starting LG. A stud center in the draft is more important to me than a stud tackle considering our depth chart, and we can find that on day 3 instead of worrying about it day 1 or 2.
If teams are legitimately interested in Timmy, then they need to step up to the plate. Anything less than 2nd round doesn't make sense for us, and I'm not so sure our FO is ready to admit they won't be able to afford him next year. Besides, he's gonna be a beast this year on a rookie contract.
20 hours ago, Flamengo1265 said:This article is silly.....that New England team goes to the Super Bowl almost every year and doesn't have any "divas" in their WR group. Just guys who run good routes and catch the ball.
um... Rob Gronkowski?
I know he's probably not coming to Baltimore, he's not really a great fit on our roster at this point anyway and I'd rather see him go to another team, but I just wanted to come to his defense a little bit. I heard Nick Saban say the other day that when you go into the draft, "People are looking for reasons not to draft you." I think Peppers is the best example of that in this draft. We're talking about a kid who has learned 3 spots on defense, fields kicks, and is a genuine factor on the offense, and the worry is that he doesn't fully understand a position. Of course he doesn't! But clearly he is capable of learning new information and growing quickly as a player. He became a linebacker in the span of a year and by the end of it was a top player at the position. His athleticism is elite, his play-making ability is apparent, but he's never been given the time to get comfortable in any one position. This kid is gonna be a stud, and it's so obvious by watching his tape. Him and McCaffrey are both getting no love in this pre-draft process. I actually wouldn't mind getting McCaffrey at 16, but that's whole other story.
Been saying this since the season ended, but I think the same is true for any position and not exclusive to WRs. Whoever we pick up rd. 1 needs to play with swagger and make his presence known every time he steps on the field. I don't care where he plays, but I want a guy with home run potential and a bark that matches his bite. I'm not asking for a team full of those guys, but we don't have a single young player (Tavon has it a little) with that kind of mindset, and I think we need it.
Could there really be a chance we get him in the 3rd round? That'd be dope. I feel like we'd have to trade up to get him at that point though. Man this is a really good draft, immediate starter potential into day 3. Crazy.
4 hours ago, rmcjacket23 said:And for even added context, look at the output from the Colts the last few years in that role:
In 2016, the 3rd WR on the roster was actually 4th on the team in targets, with 56. By comparison, he had 50 targets in Baltimore last year, and felt "underutilized". Note that the Colts ran a lot of two TE sets, and had two TEs with over 50 targets. Not that much difference than Baltimore, who had Pitta as a target hog and Juice having nearly identical targets to Aiken.
In 2015, the 3rd WR on the roster was again 4th on the team in targets, though did see a bump to 77 targets. This was also the year that Luck missed significant time and the Colts threw a lot more due to falling behind in games a lot.
So realistically, based on how our offense runs compared to the Colts, I don't really see the options for Aiken to get more usage. Like 2015, he's probably going to need an injury to Moncrief or Hilton in order to get significant time. AND that's assuming that he gets more targets than somebody like Dorsett, which I doubt.
#silentgrind i guess... good luck to him.
I'm curious to see what the price tag for this 1 year deal is. If he's going there on a bargain I'll be kind of upset that we didn't at least give him a competitive offer. I know the people who comment here aren't high on Aiken, but dude could play some ball. He would've definitely been useful this year as we transition away from SSS. Don't really understand why he's so undervalued, also don't understand why he signed with Indy over Seattle. Seahawks seemed like a better team and a better chance at consistently seeing the field.

I figured it out guys. We had to get rid of Jernigan to make room for Tony Jefferson. There can only be one TJ, it's so obvious to me now.
