What in the blankety blank are the Ravens doing?!
Read the last sentence of the article.
This fool ain't health yet?! BUST.
Yeah that and an injured Aquib Talib.
Yeah, weak argument. 20 points and win one game. I'm not impressed enough to give him anything more than a backup gig.
When he goes into Pittsburgh in January and puts up more than 30 and wins, then we can talk.
Weaker retort.
I don't get people who say we need to score more points--after we've won the game. Listen, for any game played you only need one more point then the other team. That's it folks. Pretty simple.
It was all we needed. We are also missing our starting running back and some starting O-linemen. Mallet won with backups against the starting line up of our hated rivals. Flacco who? When you say WRs, you mean one WR...Aiken. There has been literally nothing impressive from the other guys across the board. Catching one or two passes a week isn't impressive.
We aren't scoring nearly as many points without Flacco. People thought we had a great offensive performance yesterday, yet we scored a whopping 20 points.
People are not thinking clearly if they think Mallett is going to cause some sort of QB controversy with Joe.
For starters you can't underestimate the complete lack of scouting tape the Steelers had on Mallett with this grouping of skilled players and in Trestman's scheme. Not to downplay Mallett's extraordinary efforts in getting up to speed and then near-flawless execution on game-day. But that's why backup QBs that come in during games can oftentimes be more dangerous than the starter.
Secondly, Mallett was squarely brought in to be the closest possible clone to Joe as possible. Same build, same weight down to the pound, same height down to the inch. This is why we let Tyrod go. You can't expect your guys to learn and be proficient in two completely different styles of offense because of their QB. There has to be continuity. That's why Schaub was brought it. He ran Kubiak's offense for years. We only got down to Clausen when it really hit the fan and you just needed someone versed in Trestman's verbiage to quickly get up to speed.
Mallett is squarely playing these games as pre-season outtings for 2016 to be an insurance policy if Joe's recovery takes longer than expected, or Lord forbid Joe goes down again.
Plus, why on earth would you want a kid like Mallett engaged in another QB controversy when it's clear that the last one stressed him out and produced a bunch a weird behavior?
I don't know why you are so hyped on Flacco. Mallet and Clausen come in and make our lousy WRs look far from it and they have only been here a combined 5 weeks. Joe's been here for 8 years and has done zero with them. Here's to controversy.
I mentioned in Eisenberg's comment section about whether or not we are looking at a QB controversy next year if Mallett continues to produce. Of course, the early answer to that is to laugh, but as we get closer, if Joe starts throwing a bunch of int's again and can't seem to get on board with his receivers after coming back when Mallett will have been throwing to them all off season, most of pre-season and depending on the healing process, the first couple games of the season. We know the on field stuff we see on the camera but what is interesting is what Aiken said. "He was our leader there in the huddle. He talked throughout the whole game to make sure guys were upbeat, and he led the whole way today." How many times have we heard comments that beat up Joe for not having emotion when Mallett is the anti-Joe showing every emotion on his sleeves. Will fans be drawn to Mallett because of wanting that fiery qb for so long. I am not saying anything will or will not happen but I have seen the comments and I can guess what will be coming. I have already seen the comments in here and to give that much credit to Mallett and to place those expectations on a guy you have seen for one game just fuels my argument. After this season people are ripe for a qb controversy but remember, there is a reason this guy is here and just wait for his first pouting spree.
Great post. Even when "Check down" didn't have competition there was a QB controversy. It was/is whether or not "Check down" was/is overpaid.
It wasn't the best ravens game but Mallett passes looked better, was thrown better and with great accuracy for most of the game. He had 2nd and 3rd string guys looking like all stars. It's been awhile since I seen us just march with completion after completion, throws landing in prefect spots for receivers like that.
^This.
Wow Buddy, First you cut QB that has had us in the playoffs more than any before and won a SB, for a backup that just had 2 blowout losses. Now you cut him for a QB that just had his 1st career high game. Who do you think we are?? Cleveland??!! If that's what you want go cheer for the Browns. They'll agree with that thinking 100%! Smh
Buddy? When did we become so chummy? Yes, fire an 8 year QB who makes $20,000,000/yr and once said, and I quote, "I just run the plays they give me." He made that statement this year. Yeah, fire that guy. Or, cut his salary to the level of his ability, so we can get and keep great players.
Glad to see some on is board are coming around. #FirecheckdownJoe.
The quarterback threw for 274 yards and a touchdown in a victory for his Ravens debut.
Against our hated rivals.
We don't need someone like Mallet to backup Joe. We need someone like Mallet to supplant him.
Mallet and Clausen have made our "no number one" receivers look good in three games between them in spite of only having been with the team for at most four weeks between the two of them. Something Joe has been unable to do in two or more seasons.
I want to apologize to the board. A few weeks ago I made the unfortunate suggestion that Clausen should replace Flacco. I'd like to correct that error...Mallet should replace Flacco. Ryan, thanks for making the wide receivers look as good as they in fact are, which as everyone knows a good quarterback does. Cut "1st option" Joe now.
I have never seen a less accurate comment than this one. First of all, we are averaging far fewer points without Joe than with him. Pretty much every WR Flacco has had plays better with him than without him. Kamar Aiken had 0 career catches before playing with Joe, including a year and a half with Brady. He started putting up better numbers when Steve Smith got hurt, when Flacco was still playing, so it makes absolutely no sense to blame Joe for holding him back. Steve Smith was declining in Carolina, and at ages 35 and 36, he was much more productive with Joe. In fact, at 36 years old, he had almost as many yds this year in less than half a season as he did in his final year in Carolina. Torrey Smith is having a career worst year by far in his first year without Joe. Ed Dickson's #s have drastically declined since leaving Baltimore, and Derrick Mason was productive at age 37 with Joe, then couldn't even stay in the league. The only receiver that has put up better numbers without Joe than with him is Boldin, but that's because he was in Cam's offense. Once Cam was gone, Boldin put up a dominant postseason, something he has never come close to replicating with anyone else. Not one of the WRs that failed to make an impact with Joe have gone on to play well anywhere else. If I'm wrong, name someone who has. As far as Flacco not being able to read defenses and going through his progressions slowly, that couldn't be further from the truth. Greg Cossell, of NFL films, broke down film of Flacco, showing how quickly he diagnoses the coverage and makes the correct read. He actually understands how to break down film and evaluate a qb.
HA! "Less points" -Schaub has a dead arm, Clausen's been with us for two weeks,O-line revamped, lost starting running back, playing better competition. "Better with Joe" - Boldin posted first 1000yd season in years after leaving, Kapernick lost Harbaugh, Dickson already marginalized a couple of seasons before he left Baltimore. "Greg" Who is he?, Football ain't rocket science, Joe king of the check down. Nuff said.
All I want from Jernigan is consistent smart play. Gimme that Timmy. Kids got talent, but is inconsistent. With him, Williams, Guy and Carl Davis this D line should be dominating. C'mon man.
The last 4 games haven't made you realize how important Flacco is to Baltimore? We were in every single game he was our QB this year. If our defense didn't crap their selves in a few games, we would have another 2 or 3 wins. We beat the dolphins if we have Flacco and give the cheifs a lot better game. If you have a WR like SSS, you throw him the ball. Aiken is playing great, but he wouldn't be doing what hes doing if SSS didn't get hurt. Flacco is our franchise QB. You can go build a team with Clausen all you want. I like our super bowl winning QB.
Whether it's a loss by a little or a lot it does not matter. I can't argue against something no one could possibly know and that is that we would have beat the Dolphins, if Flacco had played. I can argue the facts though. Turnovers more than anything cost us yesterday's game. Joe isn't immune to turnovers . In addition, Jimmy has only been with the team for two weeks. Joe's been her 8 years.
Numder 1 or 21 who gives a.... The guy is catching the ball so keep throwing it to him! Give me break. This debate is ridiculous. I don't know if he is a career number one, but I do know he ain't the bum most of the people on this site were painting him as. That is for D sure. Also logic dictates that he is a number one WR because he is our #1. Debate over.
This author needs to stop pretending that Kamar Aiken really has potential to be a #1 WR. She writes with surprise and outrage that Aiken isn't universally considered a #1 WR. She writes "The thinking seems to be" for why he's not considered a #1 WR - as if it's hard for us to comprehend why people wouldn't say that he's a real #1 WR. Just stop it - please. In reality, Kamar Aiken would make a really good 3rd WR for this team. Let's not forget that even on his career day - he still needed that "lucky" (you know what I mean) Hail Mary TD catch to crack 100 yards. Take that away and he has 80 yards on his career day. Keep in mind this is with him being the primary target for our team. Some other thoughts about our receiving core: I really like Jeremy Butler, and Daniel Brown. And please - for my sanity - can we just cut Marlon Brown already?
How is 80yds from a WR in a game something to disparage? Just started to show-up? Last time I checked a WR can't throw to himself. Anyway, the real question is why beat down a man that is producing? shm.
Aiken doesn't get a lot of separation, and we know with Joe that means he's reluctant to throw the ball to him, even though Aiken has a great ability to fight for the ball and has very good hands. Joe has done this with basically every possession receiver he has had, which is why Derrick Mason and Anquan Boldin regularly had to tell him: "Just give me a chance, I will get the ball". It takes awhile for Joe to truly trust a possession receiver.
This the NFL. Throw your guy open. Throw back shoulder throws...do something.
I've been screaming on this board forever that FLACCO is the reason our receivers look bad. It's just to bad that it took him to get injured to prove that. I've said it all along we've got serviceable receivers. Clausen for Flacco and no I'm not kidding--the price is right. Flacco can't read defenses and he is slow in going through his progressions and delivering the ball. He is no elite QB. Nuff Said.
I'm betting Dean Pees is fired after this season. He Dean can you hear the call of the sand and surf? I'm sure you can, so make it easy on Harbaugh and do the right thing.

I said for years on this board Flacco stinks. 'Bout time management got the memo. To bad it was delivered by the "Pony Express" by way of the Rocky Mountians through hostile Sioux territory hampered by a blizzard, ahhh...you get the picture.
Draft his replacement immediately!
