ROUND ONE - HAASON REDDICK - LINEBACKER, TEMPLE
This isn't close to a reach to me. Reddick is a special talent and he will only get better. It's no secret that we need a chase linebacker alongside CJ and that's one of the ways they use him. They'll find ways to send him on blitzes, bring him from inside, line him up on the edge certain downs.
He is great in coverage and great at getting to quarterbacks. There's a chance this guy can add 12- 15 and move outside full time next year. You need someone special at sixteen and Reddick fits the bill.
ROUND TWO- RYAN ANDERSON- OLB, ALABAMA
I wanted to project Watt, Harris or Williams slipping to us here. It's possible but not likely...if Watt slid and we got him to go along with Reddick, my head might explode. Anyway,
Anderson is without a doubt, an Ozzieesque pick. He is smart, physical, and loves football. Has a knack for getting in the backfield and causing turnovers. Has very good, powerful hands to clear himself. Stronger than he appears and has jolt in his hand. Physical tackler.....around the ball constantly and makes effort plays. Not an elite athlete but is constantly working. A difference maker who can punish ball carriers.
We can land two physical, passionate cornerstone type players right off the bat.
3) AKHELLO WITHERSPOON - CB, COLORADO
Can't say enough about this guy...how underrated he is. He is a GREAT cover corner....better than his teammate, Awuzie who gets more run, better than a lot of guys who are more well known.
I put his cover skills just under Lattimore and Jones. Put this guy on an island. Great feet, great make up speed, great ball skills and he makes it look easy. Phenomenal one on one in the red zone.
A liability in the run game, there's no hiding that on tape but he can improve. An absolute steal .
3) ISAAC ASIATA, G/C, UTAH
Just nasty. can play either guard spot...a first year starter at left guard. Intimidating, Tough guy....he and Stanley from great tandem moving forward.
4) CORNELIUS ELDER, CB, MIAMI
Sorry, but I'm not taking this guy out of the mock. Don't care about him being relegated to covering smallish receivers or playing the slot. We absolutely need quality corners. Watch his tape. Great value.
5) JON TOTH, C , KENTUCKY
Four year starter in SEC. Anchors consistently against bull rush...plenty strong, marginal athlete but smart and physical. Upgrades position year one. A find sitting there in fifth round.
6) GEORGE KITTLE, TE, IOWA
A true two way tight end. Awesome and fierce blocking tight end who can run. A good receiver with size and speed. No doubt this guy has starting ability. Very underrated and I can't pass him up no matter the log jam.
