  1. don't get me wrong love how we go defensive in the draft cuz i play on defense and very prideful about it, but when it comes to the team, we really gotta focus on giving Joe weapons. CB and Pass rusher is not a need. Thats not me saying we'll draft a day 2 prospect in the first round, but that trading back could make more sense for our needs.

      jazz1988

Suggs and Doom are not spring chickens any more and are in their 30's but I don't doubt that they will be able to be solid pass rushers again. Upshaw also will be a free agent next year in 2016 and it's not even clear if The Ravens will be able to re-sign him so yeah that's makes it even more important to get a replacement now than later. Smith and Webb can be one of the best cornerback duo in the league but both are injury prone especially Webb. Asa Jackson seems to be hi...

    2. ravensdfan

      ravensdfan

Suggs & Doom might not be spring chickens but Smith Sr is even less of one and outside of him we have a receiving corps that has proven little. So I'd say weighing it out, WR/TE are much much bigger needs.

    3. jazz1988

      jazz1988

True. I think it depends on who's available honestly. The Ravens should stick to their board and not get desperate cause they need help at receiver position. I'm pretty sure they will address the receiver position in the first three rounds but I definitely will not be surprised if their first pick in the draft is a defensive player especially since I think most of the top receivers will be gone by the time they pick.

  2. isn't it time to not be known for just defense? don't get me wrong Ravens defense is essentially the only old school and real football played anymore but I'm tired of Pats and Broncos etc. to be considered shoe-ins for the super bowl based off of QB and offense. Lets balance our defense with offense. aka Ozzie please draft a WR *not Devin Smith* and a TE

Like I said, I would very much welcome the addition of a WR on day one so long as he'll pan out a #1 (eventually). I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Ozzie does come April 30th boys.

I do really like Darius Davis as well. Check him out. probably the most underrated prospect in the draft. He can do damage in the league with right coaching.

  3. WalterFootball.com Mock Draft is probably my favorite right now to be honest. But they shifted away from Ozzie loving his precious Defense. They went offense in the first 3 rounds.

Ajayi is currently my #3 RB (Coleman, Gurely above him) I just don't see him going later than the mid second.

maybe one TE and one Safety. But I say two TE's cuz we did that with Pitta and Dickson and we kept one of them who turned out to be really good.

1-wr, 2.cb, 3.rb, 4.wr, 5.olb, 6.dt, 7.de, 8.ol(g) 9.and 10. best player available. this would be my draft sequence with our ten picks regardless of which round we draft in.ideally i want to see us trading out of the first round to get an extra 3rd or 4th round pick.

If we could move up without giving up more than a third and a 5th, maybe. I don't think we'll risk the second round pick unless it's Amari Cooper, and even then I don't know if they'll do that.

    3. pechillo

      pechillo

I just really think Strong is our best option when it comes to a receiver in our vicinity of the draft, and i think other teams value his athleticism as much as the ravens do. If we can't get Strong in the first, we trade back and get more picks. More picks allow us to move up in the draft by trading as well. trading up in mid rounds would be awesome as well.

    4. RaineV1

      RaineV1

I could see them trading up for Agholor or Perriman in the 2nd, or trading up for Dezmin Lewis in the third. But probably not in the 1st.

    1. TDubbs

      TDubbs

@pechillo; I disagree. TJ Yeldon at 6'1 225 has the size to handle the NFL load. Additionally, compared to previous Bama RB's he hasn't had the same amount of carries. He's had 576 carries in 3 seasons, which isn't a great deal at his size. I believe he's got a lot of room for improvement at 21 years old.

    2. pechillo

      pechillo

@TDubbs just because he has the size doesn't mean he has more potential, not every player in college has potential. You can tell by which ones do and which ones don't. Its tough to explain but its out there.

    3. raven22nation

      raven22nation

They're gonna draft Melvin or a big receiver. that's all. just need BIg bodies for Trestman. Yeldon, JAY AJAYI, are perfect targets. along with jalen and kevin white.

  9. Greg Jennings just doesn't make that much sense...hes 31 and on decline. Last time he hit 1,000 yards was in 2010. Waste of cap space when we could grab Jaelen Strong for around a mil and get more production. marlon brown and Kamar Aiken and Camp all able to do as much as Jennings could

Not pounding the table for him, but the idea that he's done because of poor numbers in Minnesota may not be true - look at SSS, when we signed him last year half the board said we'd just signed a washed up 35 year old who was a waste of a roster spot. Sometimes just going to a better QB and having a starter across from you who is respected by defenses can make a major difference.

    3. pechillo

  12. What if...again just what if....Ravens plan on focusing back to Webb's contract post June 1st. If they can't get a restructure, cut him, get 8 mil. That could mean drafting a high CB to replace him.

    1. allblackraven

      allblackraven

Post June 1 cut leaves $4 mil in dead money. Question is - what is 8 mil saved in space good for at that stage?

    2. Tru11

the 8 mil you save can only be used after june 1 which would do us no good at this moment.

^^ exactly. we'll be sitting pretty a year from now i believe, we will be able to re-sign the MUST have guys like jimmy/ko/yanda, i think will hill gets a contract before the season starts, and upshaw will come very cheap due to his lack of numbers and spotlight. we'll have enough remaining cap space to make a splash if needed as well.

    1. pechillo

I think Pitta is done though. Usually even optimistic news won't help the situation, but they're not even being optimistic, they're not commenting which means bad bad news for Dennis

    2. pechillo

      pechillo

Fairley can play DT. he's similar to Haloti at which he can play DT and DE if he stays in shape. He was in Suh's shadow his whole career, i think he wants to be in a spotlight. He's the type of player where, if he's in the spotlight, he won't disappoint. Canty and Ngata are both our DE's and they're both gone. Fairley would definitely make sense. It is somewhat of a need.

    3. pechillo

      pechillo

Also, he's visiting the Bengals, and that would be dangerous running up the middle with their d-line if Fairley signs with them

We aren't the only team in the league with SB aspirations...

devin smith is certainly worth a late first or early 2nd, i have soured a bit on him but if he is coached up properly and refines his game, he actually has the potential to be the best wr from this class, nobody else in this class can make the spectacular catch like smith can, and it is a very coveted trait. his small body of work is concerning though

    3. pechillo

      pechillo

devin smith would simply be a role player on the ravens we need to get a franchise WR. sure he led the nation in yards/reception but thats not all that matters in the NFL, no way. YAC is crucial. Route running is crucial. Getting separation is crucial. And yeah his small body cannot get that separation nor can he get more yards after contact than Strong or any other bigger receiver. Smith didn't even run the 40 in the time everyone expected him to run it.

    4. pechillo

      pechillo

I just see him sliding down draft boards because he didn't produce much last year, he didn't even break 1000 yards. its kind of disrespectful considering him a 1st-2nd rd pick when other players who produced more last year are considered day 2 and 3 picks.

    5. Show next comments  6 more

    2. ravensdfan

      ravensdfan

They are not pay cuts. They are restructuring the money. It usually means a higher base salary and it is then spreading out the remaining to be more cap friendly.

    3. rmcjacket23

      rmcjacket23

There's a difference between an extension and a restructuring. You can't restructure a contract that only has one year remaining without taking a paycut. Its impossible.

An extension was ALWAYS the goal of the Ngata talks. Never had anything to do with restructuring anything.

    4. ravensdfan

      ravensdfan

An extension is still not a paycut. Ngata is on the tail end of his career. An extension would have made him a Raven for life and taken that $16M cap hit and spread it out. That is all. Not a paycut.

lawrence guy was a real under the radar beast last year, him and deangelo tyson make for real good depth, but i agree that investing at DE somewhere in the draft would help big time. trey flowers in the 4th is a good option

    3. pechillo

      pechillo

being a solid DE is good don't get me wrong. But the Ravens have a way of always being DOMINANT. And obviously the most intimidating D-lineman on our team is Ngata. (Though if Brandon Williams ever got on the line with me I'd probably poop my pants)

    4. hn68wb4

      hn68wb4

i disagree pertaining to Ngata, i think there are multiple teams that would trade for him, Oakland and Detroit to name a couple. A team would trade for the guarentee that Ngata goes there, if he hits the open market and teams start bidding the price may exceed what he is now
