  1. I mean the producers were nervous about an Smith and Cameron kissing and how audiences would react.

why? was it the black man kissing a white woman aspect? hollywood doesn't mind how audiences react to white men kissing black women (i.e. Monsters Ball - Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry etc.).

  2. I don't want to go so far as to say "our" leading ladies etc, I just want to see a natural equilibrium where the best actor and actress get the role regardless of race, and if happens to be a black male and white female they don't treat it differently and don't recast. I remember a few years ago Will Smith said the other lead in Hitch was supposed to go to Cameron Diaz but instead was given to Eva Mendez (not that I would complain either way) because they were nervous about kissing scenes.

i would. i do however agree that everyone (regardless of their ethnicity) should be given the opportunity to play a role that was scripted for them. and the nervous about kissing scenes thing? i don't by that one bit. lol!

  3. That's ideal but a tall order, Hollywood seems innocent but there is an undercurrent with very specific rules for how things are conducted when it comes to race, even when the film doesn't approach the subject. When was the last time you saw Denzel Washington or Will Smith share romantic scenes with a white female lead? thats just one example in one long laundry list. I accept these things for what they are but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

As for Spike? he's a hypocrite and just comes off bitter, I don't buy for a second that race is the issue for him.

again i definitely agree! you know that! lol!

but, not only do i pay attention to the lack of black leading actors being romantic with white leading actresses in movies...but i also notice the lack of black leading women to pair them with. many of our leading ladies such as; Halle, Zoe Saldana and even Kerry Washington (tv show Scandal) to name a few....are always paired with white men. so i definitely understand what you are saying. imo, Django is something different though!

  4. Well it's not a typical white people helping passive black people movie (made by white people for white people) so in that sense it could be seen as somewhat empowering, but it's still hard to sign off on the issue of slavery and its interpretation by white filmmakers.

i understand your point completely! however, this is where we as black people must continue to teach and instruct our children (in our homes, with our families) about the realities and atrocities of racism, bigotry and slavery! we can't leave that up to film makers...black or white. Spike spoke out against this movie and yet...he NEVER attempted to speak to the issue of slavery in this manner and made millions off the use of the N word earlier on in his career. sure, there were a few parts in Django that as a black man....gave me mixed feelings but over all...my wife and i enjoyed it and encouraged our grown children to go see it as well.

  5. I thought it was fantastic. It had nothing to do with Tarantino wanting to say the N word as many times as possible, it was about giving an accurate representation of the time period. In all honesty, he probably went lighter with things than he should have to give a truly accurate depiction of the South. Waltz, Foxx, and DiCaprio were all excellent in their roles. It's my third favorite film of the year, behind The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises.

exactly! sure, as a black man, there were some portions of the movie that were very sobering for me however, the use of the "N" word in that setting, that time and era in history was quite appropriate. i've seen movies recently that use the "N" word and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with the scene cause black people weren't even in the movie. go figure!

Oh Lawd. First the Walking Dead and now this? The guy named MilitantX liked this movie. Nuff said. Smh

it was a very good movie imo.

  6. Not this busted Suburban, you wouldnt. Its an oldie I bought just to slap TVs in the headrests and let the boys watch Mickey on road trips.

It will soon be out with a Denali XL or Escalade ESV in its place all Mili'd out!

my friend has a Denali. now....that is a very sweet ride. the Escalade? uhh...initially i wanted that EXT but i decided to rock that Lincoln Navigator instead. glad i did! the ESV is very nice though. like you, i'll be making a pick up myself in 6 months. my wife talked me into grabbing that S500 Benz as a birthday gift. she didn't have to tell me twice. LOL!

  7. What's it like racing down the Audobahn?!

it's crazy man! in a good way! no speed limits. i could really get the full use of my BMW, Mercedes and Jaguars engines. and believe it or not...they don't have that many accidents over there like we do here with 55, 60 & 70 speed limits. unreal!

Will do, but you do admit youve been continuing to compare apple to oranges as far as price is concerned, right? Its not even been close. First, it was a Mclaren and a 3 seriers...ha, wow! Then at least it was a touch better with a nice M3 and an SL550.

Trust me, I totally dig both, just prefer BMW. I've had 6 or 7 BMW's (have 2 now) and just love 'em. I also have a truck, Suburban, 2 Jeeps and a Benz. Yes, I do own one ;)

that's it right there! it is all about one's preference. i never got into the truck or jeep thing. not my style! but i could roll that Suburban w/24's on it. :D

  8. Show me a BMW that can compare to the beauty of a Benz or Porsche, to say nothing of a British stunner. As Mili pointed out, performance is a moot point in a country with strict driving codes.

when i was stationed in Germany back in the day (way back...lol) it was NOTHING to see a BMW and a Porsche racing on the autobahn. it was the craziest thing that i'd ever seen at the time. but it occurred almost daily. back then i rocked a 5 series BMW and then eventually i upgraded to my 7 series BMW. i believe that the highest i ever had my BMW's go was 120-130 mph on the autobahn. it was like floating in air! but...you better not try that here in the states!

  9. I just like bustin' your balls, Mili. You know that.

Hell, I have a CJ5 with a tarp on the top as a roof in the driveway.

i know that! it's all good! sweet CJ5.

BMW trumps Benz, sorry. Benz interiors leave a lot to be desired and the performance cant even be compared.

not to me! over the years living in Germany (where both the Mercedes and BMW's are made) i've owned numerous Mercedes, BMW's and Jaguars and the Mercedes is the best imo! now, i'm more of a "stylin' & profiln'" type of cat so that is why the Benz is my choice. but as far as the performance of the BMW..i must agree that it is king of the road! it's more muscle which seems to be your style. lol! but...imo, here in the states....with speed limits....it is a waste of time. in Germany on the autobahn however.....opener up!!! LOL!!

  10. I would have never guessed...

    oh.

    WAIT!

    lol

you would have never guessed what? lol!

    Yes :)

I guess the wife cant stand him...enough to say, " hey take your own sick whip to the mall, I'll meet you there"

    :P

    lol!

    Where's the tint mili?

    Smh

Yeah, no tint up front, Mili? Come on now!

I wanna see 5% on there by next week

i had to neg both dizzle and 1/28/01 on their tint comments. our 20s and 24s are enough to set the mercedes and navigator. off properly! tint is not necessary! :D

  11. Sounds like a whole lot of nothing to me. I'm not homophobic, but Bond ain't going that way.

wow! what an interesting turn of events. the bond that i knew back in the day definitely wouldn't be going that way. my...have things changed!
