I'm convinced that the NFL hates us. This schedule sucks.
The schedules are set on a rotation and division ranking from the previous year. Just stop.
I am a Ravens fan living in Cleveland and I am not real happy with this win it dropped us from 3 to 8 .
Weird.
For the longest I always felt our OC's discouraged Flacco from calling audibles at the line.
After watching Mallett, take total control of the offense and changing plays at the line of scrimmage,
that tells me Flacco doesn't like to audible that much.
Or can't read a defense as much as we'd like or hope an 8 year vet to do so? Not saying it's the case, but the theory that every OC has hog tied Flacco and not allowed him to audible or make line changes may be false.
if you put some zip on the ball and put it between there numbers they don't have much choice but to catch it. Mallet was dropping the ball in their bread basket and not floating it off his back foot or throwing duck farts like...
Funny, because I thought another name was coming here at this point of your post ![]()
No pressure? This is this man's career...how he makes a living. A cast away who has been on 2 or 3 other teams in as many years has all the pressure in the world to perform.
16-0 at least.
Yep and all the same folks who cry about overthrows & underthrows from Flacco of which Mallet has quite a few today, but he's awesome lol
And he also hit more dudes in stride today than I've seen in a while. The one to Givens for 40 yards and then also the Butler one for 20 were absolutely beautiful throws. Not crowning him, but liked what I saw.
Meh!
It was a joke. But there is no denying the dudes arm.
QB controversy...
Give them away to Ravens fans that can't afford to go
Give them away...thats cute. Maybe they can give out lollipops as well?
So we discussed this on PM, but I wanted to express it with the whole group so we all get a better understanding...
Under the scenario presented above, the following things happen:
Cuts: Elam, Lewis, Canty, and I'll say Forsett, since nobody would trade for him.
Trades: Monroe, Webb, Arrington
Retire: Pitta
The rest I'll leave alone for now. Joe will be a Raven next year and for the foreseeable future and everybody knows this, so there's no point in going down that path.
Under the above scenario, between the cuts, trades, and retirements, the Ravens would create $23.1M in dead money, while freeing up $12.9M in cap space. The biggest drives of these figures are Monroe ($6.6M dead money, $2.1M cap savings), Webb ($6M dead money, $3.5M cap savings) and Pitta ($6.6M in dead money, $600K in cap savings).
Now, as a caveat, I will say one thing... don't worry about the dead money. Russell Street Report did a great article awhile back about dead money and all the fan misconceptions regarding it. Generally speaking, it shouldn't be considered in decision making. Its a fixed, sunk cost. There is no decision the team can make that will change the amount of dead money. Dead money exists on practically everybody's cap figure, and a large chunk of our salary cap space each year is allocated to bonuses we paid to people in the past. That's just how NFL contracts work.
For me, there's only two things that matter:
1. The Cap Savings (or Cap Cost) of moving on from a player, regardless of whether its via cut, trades, or retirement.
2. Whether or not we can find a replacement level player at that position for equal or less than the Cap Savings.
So if we were to look at some of the big names on here and the bigger numbers:
1. Monroe. Cap savings from releasing/trading him prior to June 1st is $2.1M. So do we think we can find a LT as good as him for $2.1M? In the draft, maybe, but the draft occurs a good two months after FA begins, and we certainly wouldn't find a better LT in FA for $2.1M. So we'd be rolling the dice by banking on solving that problem in the draft.
2. Webb. Cap savings from releasing/trading him prior to June 1st is $3.5M. This one is highly questionable, and I'm sure we could make arguments on both sides. Again, may depend on the draft.
Of the guys listed, I think Chris Canty will certainly be cut (frees up $2.15M in cap space, I find him replaceable internally already), and I suspect Kendrick Lewis might get cut as well, though he frees up a little under $1M in space, so not a significant amount. I think cutting Arrington is a no brainer... he's pretty much getting phased out of the defense at this point, and he frees up $1.4M in cap space.
Among other players, I think Daryl Smith gets cut as well. He creates $2.625M in cap space, and he's already losing snaps in passing downs and I think we want to get younger at that position next to Mosley. There's some at least respectable in house options, and FA and the draft could provide other depth there.
There is no scenario I see where Pitta plays for us next year. If he doesn't want to retire, I think we definitely cut him. He could be a good candidate for post June-1, which allows us to spread out his $6.6M in cap hit over two seasons. There's just no way the Ravens let him stay on long enough to guarantee him the $5M in salary they owe him for 2016.
Other "wildcards" as I would call them would be Steve Smith. He frees up $3M if hes cut (not likely) or retires, and we don't definitively know what's happening with him. Monroe and Webb are certainly names to keep in mind if we upgrades those positions significantly in FA/draft, as well as Forsett, who I expect to be back, but if we for some reason address RB early in the draft, he becomes expendable and creates $2.3M in cap space.
We have our differences and I like to give you a hard time about the "caring what fans think" thing and how we look as a group, but great post.
Its all better now....
I'd say so. Very nicely done.
There is so much wrong with the post that is 2 posts up. So much dead money resulting in half of what is proposed.
Didn't know Aiken is a free agent?? That would suck lol. Because Kelechi Osemele is the #1 priority!! He must get resigned!! However I like aikens improvement. There is something i noticed that separates Aiken from other receivers that begin the season #4 or lower on the depth chart. Something a little special he and several other Receivers share. A trait that only some particular people overall share
. II began to pick up on it when he stole Marlon Browns TD but did not give it much thought. Something that will allow Aiken to be a top shelf #3 receiver.
It's just about guaranteed KO is gone. Might want to wrap your head around that sad fact now.
He's taking advantage of the opportunity afforded to him. Strong hands it seems, high points the ball as others have said and has a little tenacity/attitude. I like him as next year's #3.
Nah, I'm good. I'll keep calling your posts out when they're mostly as ridiculous as they are. It's fun and I like it.
2 good guesses.? Haha you are quite hilarious. I suggest you revisit the beginning of this thread. You remember way way back in preseason when you were spouting off about how great a football team we were going to be. Take a look at my predictions for the final AFC North standings.
You know what I want I want for Christmas. I want you to be right about just one thing.! and also for you to stop personally bashing me.
I still stand behind this.
I love Wizards posts. Always have. Its like when my 3 year old makes an attempt to search for something on YouTube.
2 good guesses in a row, good work. You're still clueless when it comes to the cap and player salaries.
So basically, we need about a half dozen or more new, quality players.
More or less, yes. But couldn't care less what any of the fans expect or how they perceive things. That's your thing.
Who gives a rats patooty about the fans and what they want or expect?! I would like to see Flacco get healthy, command the offense and go out and have a blistering regular season. Of course, there are things that need to happen in order for this to happen, so those are understood to take place as well (healthy and strong oline, Sr back and add another WR, solid D etc).
If that were Flacco, some would blame Givens for not coming back and helping the underthrow.
Hee hee, I keed. Hard liquor time!
It's usually not full Christmas week. Next week will be better... I hope, its Steelers week.
Stadium is always full Christmas week.
Santa Clausen?
Now, Creed I want to see.
Don't understand the massive love for stars wars, don't think I ever will. The #'s they're generating is mighty impressive though.
Right there with ya. I've watched bits and pieces of old and new and its just not for me.

Unfortunately, there is no competition at the starting QB position. I say unfortunately since I'd love to see something or someone push Flacco to the next level. But, after 8 years, I think he is what he is; an average to above average starting NFL QB that can occasionally play in brilliant spurts...but also play quite the opposite.
