5M a year? That is a little high for a 32 yr old corner no? Unless of course we sign him to a two year deal with one year guaranteed and an option for the next year... Then again, we are under the hook to pay Webby much more than that already and he doesn't show signs of wanting to take a pay cut either.
32 years old seems a bit high myself until you look at what the Bengals have gotten out of guys like Terrance Newman and Pacman Jones. I thought Newman was "old" about 3 or 4 years ago and yet he is still playing well. Plus Williams would ideally just be a nickel in our defense so the age isn't a concern. Now the real question is how much is a nickel corner worth? 5m probably is too high but we'll see.
Really bummed Moore got away, at 4M a year? We got a seriously hole at FS. I'm betting we address it Draft day.
I think the plan right now is for Will Hill to start at FS and we give Elam another shot at SS. If Elam struggles again than once Brooks is ready to go maybe he slides in at FS and Hill moves to SS.
The point is we have options with guys currently on the roster. For as much grief as our safeties have gotten recently it was our corners that killed us last year.
Any time a kicker goes in round 4 or sooner is pretty shocking in my book.
Everyone undervalues the kicker until they need him to make a game winning kick.
Anyone else concerned by Tucker only getting a 2nd round tender? I would give up a 2nd round pick for him in a heartbeat.
And Jordan Cameron wants out and he is a free agent. He has a history of concussions but that might mean he would come cheap. He would be an excellent pickup if Pitta's career is over.
Brady's replacement is already on the roster. Jimmy Garropolo or however you spell it. He looks legit.
That's who I was referring to. A suspension for Brady would give them a reason to play the new guy or else they will eventually have the same situation that is going on in Denver right now.
Yeah that was an overreaction.... We'll probably just see four games. After all, it's not like he beat his girlfriend or did adderall.
A suspension of any length might end up helping the Patriots. Tom's own father said it will not end well for Tom in New England because at some point they will want to move on probably before Tom does. Things would get really interesting if that QB they drafted in the 2nd round recently played well during the suspension. It could be another Bledsoe/Brady type thing.
Well this was interesting!!! It can be done in a bathroom with 11 footballs in under 90 seconds (this guy even does 12): see the video...
The people who immediately said, "He couldn't do it in 90 seconds" either didn't stop and think about it or are Patriot homers. It's clear that something like this doesn't happen on a whim. It would have to be planned in order to avoid detection. Apparently there are cameras practically everywhere as a result of 911. If it was planned than it was practiced. If it was practiced than 90 seconds is more than enough.
Only problem is his answer can be the same and still make sense. It could be his routine...an incredibly suspicious routine but a valid routine nonetheless. It would be a done deal if they had surveillance video from another game with him again hitting the head on the way to the field.
There's a lot of debate as to whether the ball boy could deflate the 12 footballs in 90 seconds is silly. Of course he could. But that's not the point I want to make.
How about why are you going to the bathroom at that exact moment? Everything in carefully scheduled. You do the same thing at the same time every week and you choose to go to the bathroom while you are taking the footballs out to the field. I don't know about anyone else but that seems goofy. I would go either before or after...you know when I don't have two large bags of footballs to deal with. Crazy huh?
I read that two nights ago Crush, it was really interesting as the data, all though not completely conclusive, does seem to point to a direct correlation to their fumble rate with possible cheating as it relates to underinflated football usage. The percentages were staggering.
The more we learn the angrier I get. Two things had better happen.
1) Seattle better beat the Patriots
2) A minimum Bountygate level of punishment including suspensions and multiple high draft picks.
The NFL certainly has the ability to do their own statistical analysis. While this sort of thing would qualify as circumstantial evidence, enough circumstantial evidence can be enough to get someone convicted in the court of law. I see no reason why it can't convict someone like Belicheat given his record. He better not get off just because they don't find any hard evidence.
Kickers use a whole different batch of balls...the ones with the K on them.
I heard also that the 12th ball was for the kicker. They must have one on the sideline for when they are practicing into the net right since the K balls aren't in their possession?
Now former Tampa Bay QB Brad Johnson has come out and admitted he PAID $7,500 to alter all 100 footballs used in Super Bowl XXXVII against Oakland.

As for the Patriots, I think a 1 year suspension of Belichick, loss of 1st and 2nd round picks, and some kind of hefty fine by Robert Kraft would be justice. Begin the suspension as of Mon Feb 2nd, 2015 and the suspension is lifted Monday Feb 8th, the day after Super Bowl 50.
That punishment is only marginally more severe than what the Saints got for Bountygate. I'm really curious to see what the NFL does. Repeat offenders are generally treated more severely. Belicheat absolutely deserves a suspension but I think it should start immediately. He should not be coaching in the Super Bowl. And they should lose multiple 1st round draft picks.
Ravens Fans - a couple thoughts on this issue. First, I really can't believe some of you are saying, "The score was 45-7 so it doesn't matter." THAT IS COMPLETELY BESIDE THE POINT. The Patriots have created a culture of cheating. The Colts are reporting they thought patriots had under inflated balls in their earlier meeting and at least one other NFL team says they were suspicious about this issue in a game in November. Perhaps Brady and the Pats have been doing this consistently or even off and on for years. If it wasn't an advantage, they wouldn't do it. Just think of the games it may have impacted over the last decade. Think of the close battles you guys have had with them. Think of the fact that if they would cheat like this, how else do they cheat and have not been caught? Personally, I think this sucks.
Second - this culture of cheating is just garbage. These guys present themselves as the "class organization of the NFL". What a joke. Bellicheat ought to get the Peyton Punishment…one year out of the league. If Pretty Boy has been asking for deflated balls for years (which I suspect)…his legacy is tainted.
It doesn't mean the Pats haven't had an awesome run or that Brady isn't a great QB. It just means that these guys are consistent cheaters who have repeatedly broken the rules or twisted the rules to gain a competitive advantage. My Patriot hatred is on a whole new level. I love/hate our battles with the Ravens. My "hate" for the Ravens is because you make it so hard for us to reach our goals. But the Pats are just freaking armpit, cheating jerks.
It's plausible that they started doing this after their blowout loss to the Chiefs. Respected football people were questioning if Brady might be done. It's entirely possible.
I remember thinking to myself during the game that Tucker wasn't getting the usual distance on his kickoffs. They were barely getting to the goal line instead of through the end zone. I wrote it off because it was in Foxborough in January. It was cold. Now I'm not so sure.
On the bright side now there is nothing the Patriots can do to remove the asterisk next to their Super Bowl titles. You just know everyone was ready to put Spygate behind us if they won another Super Bowl. Now that will never happen. They will forever be known as cheaters which makes me smile a bit.
One good thing about Trestman is he should be here awhile and if not it is only because Joe threw for 7,000 yards and 60 TDs and we won the Super Bowl.
Gase isn't even getting the Jaguars job, now.
The Jags are hiring Greg Olson to be their offensive coordinator.
Gase must have cooties or something.
thats the problem…he is pass happy ,,why would he change now? he's never been diverse like kubiak..
This year he was but I thought in 2013 when Cutler got hurt they ran the ball more with McCown at QB and their offense was insane.
I just hope he doesn't get too pass happy.
He's not there yet but he is approaching bust territory especially when you consider we have slightly higher expectations out of our 1st round defensive players. Look no further than CJ Mosely to see what our expectations are.
At least the safety that went next to the Jaguars hasn't been too good either from what I've heard. That would have hurt even more if we passed on a good safety for Elam. As it stands though rookie safeties haven't played that well in the NFL lately. I remember everyone raving about Kenny Vaccaro and he's really struggled too.
Cary played more off coverage and he let up a lot of 10 yard completions. Melvin reminds me more of Jimmy Smith. Seriously. He's a big, physical corner with good technique and instincts. He hasn't been tested like Jimmy has against guys like Megatron, but so far so good.
Cary would play some press. It comes down to what the coaches ask him to do. But I was making the comparison over more than just his size. Cary was also a guy we plucked off of someone's practice squad who became a solid player for us.
Hopefully Melvin can keep it up. So far he reminds me of Cary Williams.
I think so as well, but someone is going to pay McPhee big time and I'll be happy for McPhee and pissed we lose him lol. He's incredibly disruptive both inside and outside. It remains to be seen if he can play 40 snaps in a game for 16 weeks but his skill and technique is undeniable.
I have a feeling McPhee will be the next Adalius Thomas. Some bad team will sign him to be the guy but without guys like Suggs, Ngata, and Doom occupying so much attention he won't do much. Maybe he proves me wrong but right now I think the Thomas comparison is spot on.
I liked how he seemed to have good awareness when the ball was in the air. Thats all I ask for at this point.

To be fair they are the Browns so they have to overpay to get anyone to sign there. If any other team not names the Raiders was offering the same who in their right mind would go to Cleveland. Even the Jaguars seem to be on the right track now.
